Amy Wineland Daughters experienced a life-changing impulse that led her to reconnect with an old camp friend on Facebook, despite not having contact for 30 years. This heartfelt experience inspired her to write handwritten letters to all 580 of her Facebook friends and the belief that when human beings connect individually in a meaningful way, nothing can separate them. Amy is a keynote speaker, letter writer, satirist, sports journalist, and the award winning author of two books, Dear Dana, that time I went crazy and wrote all 580 of my Facebook friends a handwritten letter, and You Cannot Mess This Up: A True Story That Never Happened. And it took effort and time on your part or on the sender's part.” “ I don't think we intend to make people feel like they don't matter. I think the world we live in and the advantages we have with technology isolate us.”. “ Writing the letter to someone and telling them you care or you value or appreciate them, it will do something to you that can change you in a way that you cannot even gauge.” Mentioned: Amydaughters.com Facebook Instagram eConnect with Bonnie Gendered Ageism Survey Results Forbes article 5 Tips to own the superpower of your age IAMMusicGroup Purchase my book Not Done Yet on Amazon: If you enjoyed this episode of Badass Women Podcast, then make sure to subscribe to the podcast and drop us a five-star review.

In Becoming Belle da Costa Greene: A Visionary Librarian through Her Letters (Harvard University Press, October 2024), Deborah Parker chronicles the making and empowerment of a female connoisseur, curator, and library director in a world where such positions were held by men. Belle da Costa Greene (1879–1950) was Pierpont Morgan's personal librarian (1908–1913) and the first Director of the Morgan Library (1924–1948). She was also the daughter of two mixed-race parents and passed for white. In the nearly six hundred letters that Greene sent to art historian Bernard Berenson (1865–1959), Parker identifies Greene's energetic pursuit of exceptional opportunities, illuminating the artistry and imaginative features of Greene's writing—her self-invention, her vibrant responses to books and art, and her pathbreaking work as a librarian. As Greene transformed a private library into a magnificent public institution, she also transformed herself: hers was a life both lived and writ large. Deborah Parker is Professor of Italian at the University of Virginia, and her books include Commentary and Ideology: Dante in the Renaissance, Bronzino: Renaissance Painter as Poet, and Michelangelo and the Art of Letter Writing. Her writings also appear in the exhibition catalog for the Morgan Library & Museum's centenary exhibition, Belle da Costa Greene: A Librarian's Legacy. Jen Hoyer is Technical Services and Electronic Resources Librarian at CUNY New York City College of Technology. She is co-author of What Primary Sources Teach: Lessons for Every Classroom and The Social Movement Archive. Learn more about your ad choices. In today's episode of their podcast, Miss Black Reign and Dani Thompson stir up a nostalgic conversation about a nearly forgotten art, handwritten letters. Amidst our digital-dominated world, they ponder whether we are losing the magical moments that come with receiving a personal note in the mail. The duo discusses how the current generation might be missing out on the joy and anticipation of waiting for a letter, the thrill of seeing familiar handwriting, and the tangible connection that comes with holding a piece of paper that someone took the time to craft just for you. — Handwriting can help to calm your mind, sharpen your writing skills, and make sense of memories and feelings at the same time. Writing can create order out of internal chaos and calm the internal chatter that creates the stress in the first place. Writing letters can be just as soothing, calming, and meditative as knitting, drawing, or painting. Letters help us to weave the tapestry of love that is our lives. They record our humanity, the better parts of us. And if we write them now, we will still be here on paper a hundred years from now, proving to future generations that the human heart changes little through space and time. Love never dies. Letters ensure that our words and our humanity do not either. Valeria interviews Lynne Kolze — She is the author of “Please Write: Finding Joy and Meaning in the Soulful Art of Handwritten Letters.” Lynne Kolze has been writing letters for over five decades to all kinds of people, for all kinds of reasons. Spending all these years writing letters, she learned that it is the small things we do for one another that make the most difference. Lynne discovered that letters are one of the most powerful, creative, joyful gifts that one person can give to another. No other gift that is as precious costs so little and has such a lasting impact. In fact, a letter's power is often in the rich legacy it leaves behind for future generations. In a world of quick, cookie-cutter, and one-dimensional communications, letters offer a respite from the cyber world we experience every day. Lynne never imagined herself as someone who would become an author, but her research into the art of letter writing sparked an interest in sharing what she learned with others. Over time, she gathered stories from others about the ways in which letters changed or enriched their lives. Their stories, as well as her own experiences, inspired this book. Lynne began her life in suburban Chicago, then followed her dream of becoming involved in environmental protection. She received bachelor's degrees in water resources and natural resources management from the University of Wisconsin, and a master's degree in public affairs from Indiana University. Lynne then spent over 30 years in public service, mostly working on water protection efforts in Chicago, Washington, DC, and Minnesota. During these years, she advocated for better citizen engagement in water planning efforts. She enjoyed working with citizens most, finding joy in their knowledge and ideas as well as the comradery and connections she made. In many ways, letter writing, and public service are similar pursuits: each involves sharing, storytelling, listening, connecting, and building community through reciprocal giving. Both have given her great satisfaction and contributed to her growth as a person. Lynne currently lives in the “Twin Cities” in Minnesota, not far from the Mississippi River with her husband. She enjoys spending time with him in nature, visiting with her two adult children, and gardening, reading, and dabbling in amateur photography. Her new mantra is: “Kindness is underrated. Be a letter writer. Change a life!” To learn more about Lynne Kolze and her work, please visit: https://lynnemkolze.com/ — This podcast is a quest for well-being, a quest for a meaningful life through the exploration of fundamental truths, enlightening ideas, insights on physical, mental, and spiritual health. The inspiration is Love. The aspiration is to awaken new ways of thinking that can lead us to a new way of being, being well.
Every Christian ought to be a soul-winner. Regardless of your occupation, your primary business is to win souls. Failing to do so means not only failure in this life but also regret and remorse in the life to come. The world has always been willing to listen to a man with a real message from heaven. As Christians, we possess the greatest news ever told. Upon becoming a Christian, one should realize that, armed with the Gospel, he has more to offer the world than the whole world has to offer in return. To be effective in personal evangelism, study human tendencies and the best ways to approach your fellow man. Study the Bible and learn how to apply its principles. Above all, uplift Christ, confident in the absolute assurance that the Holy Spirit will bless your efforts each time you speak for Christ. "My word will not return to Me void." This book is designed to help those who wish to share the gospel with others but have limited experience and would welcome guidance and practical tips from a fellow laborer.

Letterwriting is the topic that took the PCPS by storm! When we asked you for your thoughts and stories about the letters you wrote and received growing up, we got more responses than any other topic to date. This certainly validates our assertion that letterwriting was vital to the Gen X experience. Before email and texting there was only one way to keep in touch with our important people that didn't involve long-distance charges (which your dad said was "highway robbery!") -- we put pen to paper and poured our hearts out in ways we would never do via text. Grandparents, pen pals, camp friends, and boyfriends/girlfriends, our relationships to all of them were nurtured and deepened by the handwritten word. Join us for our stories, your stories, and lots of hilarious readings of pubescent yearning and shenanigans.Follow the PCPS on Instagram, Facebook and TikTokSupport the PCPS on Patreon. Letter writing is a dying art, but fortunately, there are some wonderfully creative souls around resurrecting old love letters and breathing life into them. One of them is Liz Maguire, the love letter collector and originator of https://www.fleamarketloveletters.com , originally from Washington D.C. and now living in Dublin. From her first acquisition as a teenager of a set of vintage love letters from a flea market, Liz now holds a collection of over 1600 letters. She told me,‘Letters capture the essence of what it is to be living through history. In attics, and drawers and shoe boxes under beds there are hundreds of stories waiting to be told.' Here we delve into her unique archive…
