Maybe you grew up in a loving family, or maybe being part of one always felt like an impossible dream. Regardless of where we came from, we're offered that very opportunity through God the Father -- but it comes with responsibilities. God commands us as His children to love others as we love ourselves. As part of the family of God, we need our brothers and sisters to love us and be loved by us, too.

In this week's edition of the Overdrive Radio podcast, a little music and storytelling to take you through the weekend and into next, whether you're still off for Thanksgiving or on the road: **A tour through the Nashville session at Jay Vernali's Jay's Place studio on music row with our 2020 Trucker Talent Search winner, John Malayter. Hear the results of that session, as Malayter tells the stories behind four tracks any fan of folk-blues and bluegrass is likely to enjoy. The Jordan Carriers hauler, who lives in Rogersville, Tenn., picked up the guitar at a young age and learned to finger- and flat-pick, bluegrass-style, mostly self-taught, and has made music an integral part of his life for decades since. **Bluegrass pro Tina Adair talks through the June session that delivered the first single from a forthcoming, as yet untitled record, along with her performing and songwriting history in part with the Grammy-nominated and otherwise award-winning all-female bluegrass group Sister Sadie. Adair's music video for that single, a cover of trucking-song classic "Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses," premiered here on Overdrive this past Tuesday. **"Long Haul Paul" Marhoefer's "When a pandemic becomes personal," another intimate look at life between the road and home in this tragic year, read by the author. You know that saying "give people their roses while they can still smell them"? It doesn't specify how many roses or even that you have to give multiple roses. It is easy to prioritize quantity over quality... but the primary factor is actually intention. Show love whenever and however you can, in the best ways possible. That love includes yourself. Love yourself so much that you don't need to put guards up. Love yourself so much that your love inspires other. Love is contagious... spread it! Speaking of love, we think you'll love the drink we've concocted for Episode 23 called A Dozen Roses. Mix it up and press play. Cheers!A Dozen Roses Recipe:7-8 Raspberries2 oz Coconut Water3 oz Fentimans Rose Lemonade1 oz Lemon Juice1 tbsp Simple Syrup2 oz Dark Rum cocktailInstructions:Muddle raspberries at the bottom of the glass (reserve one for garnish)Combine coconut water, lemon juice, and simple syrup, in shakerShake over ice & pour into glassAdd Rose Lemonade & Rum cocktailGarnish with raspberry#sipdelicately

Winter is here and the driving will be almost impossible sometimes and that is with most of us in cars. This show is a tribute to all those amazing people behind the wheel of those big semi trucks, delivery drivers and us the fans of Truck Driving Songs! Songs like Tombstone Every Mile, 18 Wheels and a Dozen Roses, Six days on the Road and our friend to the show, Rowdy Yates from Country Gold Saturday Night offered up a few suggestions! I would like to thank everyone who suggested songs for this show it was the most ever. Their was no way to get over 40 songs on a 2 hour program especially with me talking so we will have a second Truck Driving Song show in January. For our comedy at 9 pm we have a song about a Gear Jammer and a Hobo, freaking funny. We also have a special dedication to a musician who just recently lost his father. So please participate as we raise our glasses for Jim and also all the drivers that have lost their lives making sure we get our goods on time no matter the weather. This entire show was from your suggestions except for a few of my own that are special to me. Show starts at 8 pm est!
Today we explore one of the more troubling aspects of Howard Hughes’ legacy: the firm hand he played in enforcing the blacklisting of Hollywood workers, both as the head and owner of RKO Pictures, and as a powerful rich guy whose influence went as high as the U.S. Congress. This episode also tells the story of Paul Jarrico, the first screenwriter to be taken to court by a studio (RKO) over the question of his firing during the blacklist period. In partnership with the also-blacklisted writer Michael Wilson and director Herbert Biberman, Jarrico then made Salt of the Earth, a pro-Union, proto-feminist, Neorealist-influenced independent film which the blacklisting-supporting unions effectively silenced, with the help of the media, politicians, and Hughes. The wife of actor Melvyn Douglas (Ninotchka, Being There), Helen Gahagan Douglas transformed herself from a Broadway and opera star into an exciting new politician in the days of FDR. A persistent, nagging voice of conscience in Congress during the time of HUAC and nuclear panic, Douglas’ political career came to an end amidst irresponsible allegations that she was a Communist supporter -- many of which were leveled at her by her opponent in the 1950 Senate race, Richard Nixon.
