Đây là bản phóng tác tiếng Pháp của một bản nhạc ăn khách tiếng Hà Lan (Ik ben verliefd op jou) do nam ca sĩ người Bỉ Paul Severs trình bày. Ca khúc đầu tay này giúp cho nhóm Crazy Horse lập kỷ lục số bán vào năm 1971, với hơn một triệu bản. Valentina er elev ved Visjon Agape, Åpne Dørers internatskole i Colombia. Her har hun gått siden hun var 11 år. Det ble for farlig å bli boende hjemme, ettersom pappa Francisco er kristen leder i lokalmiljøet. Å skille barn fra foreldre er en forfølgelsestaktikk som blir brukt mot kristne mange steder i verden. Noen ganger blir barna tatt med makt fra familien, mens andre ganger er det foreldrenes valg. Et valg, tatt ut fra desperasjon og frykt. «Det gjør vondt å sende barna våre så langt bort», forteller Francisco. «Men vi er glade for at de ikke er i fare lenger.» På Visjon Agape får Valentina både lære og være i trygghet. In part one of his three-part Eel Special, Neil focusses on eel fry – elvers, or glass eels – once a very important source of seasonal protein the south east and west of England. He visits a traditional elver fisherman to watch him haul in his catch and to find out why, paradoxically, to save this critically endangered species, we may have to eat it. Neil also looks at the ecologist who discovered that eel migrate back and forth to the Sargasso sea, the folklore surrounding elvers and provides some serving suggestions should you get your hands on some. This week comedian Sara DeForest of podcast Fish Burps joins us. David's brother calls and pushes a sensitive David's buttons. Sara accuses David of being a gingerphile. That went well, I think. Sara tells us a bit about her family dynamics and growing up with a much older brother. Roast battle shows are discussed and Sara compliments David's recent success at one. We learn that there's many people with the same name as your host when Elver from Columbia calls in. In early 1990s, Turkey was the only Muslim country where a headscarf ban in schools, universities and public institutions took place. In the aftermath of 9/11, in Western countries pious Muslim women experienced a troubling exclusion from the public sphere in the name of secularism, democracy, liberalism, and women's rights. Meanwhile, domestic courts and international courts such as the European Court of Human Rights, are increasingly influenced by social pressures concerning immigration, rejection of multiculturalism, and by attitudes expressed via Islamophobia, the ‘war on terror,’ and ‘homeland security.’ As a result, many Western governments have failed to recognize and protect essential individual freedoms in relation to Muslim women and public discussion is still going on various form of Islamic attire. While exclusion of pious women from public spaces is spreading in many countries where Muslims are a minority, the Turkish headscarf case continued a politico-legal battle among lawyers, judges, and politicians in Turkey. Recently, the Turkish government’s long awaited reforms on human rights gave a relative comfort to headscarf use in universities and public offices, current political turmoil makes future of the debate unpredictable. Elver argues that law can be used to change underlying social conditions shaping the social contract, role of religion, and the position of women in modern society. Hilal Elver is a Research Professor in Global Studies and Co-director of the Project on Climate Change, Human Security and Democracy at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
