The NFL season kicks off next week and Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles offense are gearing up for their week 1 battle against the New England Patriots. Former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker, and current FOX and 94.1 WIP analyst Garry Cobb takes a look at the Eagles franchise quarterback and the weapons surrounding him like A.J Brown, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert. Cam Jurgens has impressed throughout training camp and it looks like he will beat out rookie Tyler Steen for the starting right guard spot replacing Issac Seumalo who was signed to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the offseason. Jurgens, in his second year in the NFL, has only ever played center. How will the young athlete adjust? Will he have trouble finding his rhythm? Was it a smart move by Head Coach Nick Sirianni and Defensive Coordinator Sean Desai? Over the offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles running back room has some new occupants in D'Andre Swift and Rashad Penny. Swift was picked up during the 2023 NFL Draft as part of a trade with the Detroit Lions. Penny was signed following a 5 year stint with the Seattle Seahawks. Alongside Kenny Gainwell and Boston Scott, will these new additions be what this team needs to advance their ground game? Who will emerge as the top running back in 2023? Following the Super Bowl, the Eagles' defense gained a new defensive coordinator in Sean Desai but lost key players. Enter Jalen Carter. Drafted 9th overall by the Eagles earlier this year, the Georgia Bulldog defensive tackle has already positioned himself as one to watch throughout the season. Darius Slay and James Bradberry have continued to impress throughout training camp as well. However, an area of concern is the linebackers and the safeties. Are we getting good-quality play out of Nakobe Dean and Zach Cunningham? Is Reed Blankenship the right man to fill that starting safety role left vacant following the departure of C. J. Gardner-Johnson? As a former linebacker for the Eagles, as well as the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions, Cobb takes us inside the minds of these young defensemen and gives his thoughts on what adjustments he would make as the season approaches.

Joining Markus this week is former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Garry Cobb. Cobb was with the Eagles from the 1985-87 seasons and was a part of former defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan's “Gang Green” defense. Markus and Garry will discuss the Eagles' defense going into the 2023 season, which is poised to be one of the best in the league this season. The Eagles return a number of key players from last year's unit, including defensive tackle Fletcher Cox, defensive end Brandon Graham, and cornerbacks Darius Slay and James Bradberry. The Eagles also added some key pieces in the draft, including defensive tackle Jalen Carter, edge rusher Nolan Smith, and cornerback Kelee Ringo. They have a strong front four, a talented secondary with good young depth, and solid linebackers.. If they can stay healthy, they will be a force to be reckoned with. With that defense, defensive coordinator Sean Desai remains an “X-Factor” when it comes to the unit's success… but can that defense get BETTER? That gets to the topic of free agency, will Howie Roseman manage to land one more free agent before training camp starts in less than a week? The Eagles made some key signings this offseason including Rashaad Penny, Nick Morrow, Olamide Zaccheaus, Terrell Edmunds, Greedy Williams, and Marcus Mariota. What are your expectations for the newest Eagles signings and who will be the most impressive signing of 2023?
