Blue Canary: For Cops By a Cop

Ethics in LeadershipIt's an interesting topic and at times can be very controversial. Peter Drucker was an Austrian American management consultant, educator, and author, whose writings contributed to the philosophical and practical foundations of modern management theory. He famously said “The only definition of a leader is someone who has followers”This statement has led to some interesting classroom discussions as well as arguments about leaders. In my courses I typically lead with a few definitions of leadership and then ask the class a question. I ask them to give me a list of “Good Leaders.” What follows is an interesting take on leadership. We will typically start with George Washington, Mahatma Gandhi, Winston Churchill, Abraham Lincoln, and then the class will typically throw in George Patton, Bear Bryant, and then a modern president. Which president however is based on where the class is being taught. This is where the arguments start. Leaving the list of “Good Leaders” on the board I ask the class for a list of “Bad Leaders.” This list starts with Adolf Hitler, followed by Joseph Stalin, and Pol Pot. Jim Jones and David Koresh are added as the classes input starts to wind down. And then someone will throw out the name of the same modern president that was on the “Good List.”Defining leadership as “someone who has followers” might be accurate from a technical point, but it fails to address what I believe is one of the major elements of leadership. Ethics. Those leaders in the “bad List” are leaders, they moved countries, cultures, and peoples to do some truly horrific things, but I could never look at them as leaders because to me ethical leadership is the most important element.I believe that ethical leaders can lead anyone, but unethical leaders only lead unethical people, the rest they will drag along against their will.Let's take a look at ethics, morals and ethical leadership.

2023.05.04 – 0854 – The Food And Drink Good List The ‘good' listHave these in moderation; you don't want to feel full and bloated during a four-hour radio show. Neither do you want to feel nauseous, or feel the need for a toilet break, or suffer from either form of gas in a small studio.Eat enough of the right foods to keep your energy levels up – preferring fresh over anything processed. Fruit – in general fruits are good as they contain lots of water – especially ones such as mangoes, melons and peaches - but they're not all made equal! Citrus fruits can be packed with ‘straight-to-your-bloodstream' sugar, though a banana will give you studio ‘staying power', and a green apple will help freshen your mouth. Chicken and fish – lean protein fills you up and gives you energy without the fat and oils from other meats and the associated problems caused by them.Water – yeah “hydrate, mate!”, especially with room temperature water, both before, during and after your performance. Before? Yes, you need to up your water intake a good day before to build up a ‘foundation of hydration' in your whole body, with top ups on the day to keep your folds moistened and to clean and lubricate your articulators. How much water?: “If your pee's white, you'll sound all right…” Local honey – can help keep bugs at bay. Remember it may be soothing to drink and may calm a tickle at the back of your throat, but it won't ever touch the folds themselves.Do eat and drink something. There's no point starving yourself! You need vocal and mental energy to concentrate and perform. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Do you have a ‘Bucket List’? Do you have a TO DO list? Do you have a friends list? You know, those few people who you could call at any time, from anywhere and they would respond? Do you have a list of “people to stay away from’, or “People to hang around”? How many people’s ‘good’ list are you on? How many people’s ‘bad’ list are you on? Remember at Christmas time we learned… that Santa Claus is making a list and checking it twice, we’re gonna find out who has been naughty and nice…. If there were 2 universal lists, one called SUCCESS, and the other called, SIGNIFICANCE- which one of those would the WORLD put you on? On today's Podcast of Living Life Like It Matters, Mr. Black talks about LISTS. The human creature works through lists. Some of the most famous lists: Bucket List- things to do before we die, No-Fly list- for those who make the government upset, Emily’s list- for those who believe that a women’s most important right is abortion, The “A” list- for top-of-the-line celebrities, TO DO list, and men- we have our HONEY DO, list. People keep and make lists, government keep and make lists. At the end of the year, many people make a list of memories from the year, things that they experienced and people that they encountered. It is a list of memories and memorabilia and each of us is on a list somewhere, or on someone’s list, somewhere. When you live your life like it matters, that mindset has a tendency to impact many people and get you added to their list of, “People who have made a significant different in my life”. Today Mr. Black wants you to consider: Who’s List are you on? Tune into our new Podcasts every Monday and Thursday, and build the pattern for; Living Life Like It Matters. I'm really excited to have Teresa Ku-Borden back on the podcast today. If you haven't already listened, Teresa was on an earlier episode called Art as Outlet and Connection.  Teresa is a doctor and mother living in East Los Angeles and serving the community there. She also happens to be my sister-in-law. Today, she is sharing with us what's on her Good List: 4 things, big or small, that are bringing joy to small parts of her life. I got this idea from Tsh Oxenrider and her podcast formerly called The Good List. What I love about the Good List, as a mom of young kids, is that it reminds me that incorporating small things or moments that bring joy to my day, can make a really big difference. I'm always inspired by hearing others share what these things are for them, it helps spark ideas for me.Previous Episode with Teresa Art as Outlet and Connection with Teresa Ku-Borden Things MentionedAeropress CoffeeYou Matter, by Christian RobinsonHamiltonLiberated TogetherFind Teresa here: Instagram Voices Rising: Women of Color Finding and Restoring Hope in the City Explore A Growing Home more: Instagram Blog Facebook

I'm so thrilled to chat today with bestselling author, Tsh Oxenreider. Over the years, her perspective, stories, and journeys have been shared on and in media platforms big and small…you may have even encountered her on outlets like HGTV, Food Network, NPR, Real Simple magazine, and The Washington Post. In addition to her incredibly popular books, she also shares weekly newsletters, and you can catch her regularly on her podcast, The Good List. When I glanced at the calendar and realized the season of Advent was approaching, I reached out to Tsh to see if she'd be willing to join me and share some thoughts and heart not just from the spiritual side of Advent, but even in how to navigate this season of hope and healing in the midst of such a tumultuous year. Whether you find yourself interested in the spiritual journey of Advent or not, I hope Tsh's thoughts on embracing art and music and meditation as a part of the holiday spirit in this challenging year bring encouragement. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bettersects/message
