What does success really look like for a writer? In this episode, I share a surprisingly encouraging reminder from a 1951 editorial in Galaxy Science Fiction: even at the highest magazine rates of the day, it took "a stupendous amount of writing" to support a writer. That may not sound comforting at first — but it is. Because it means writing was never easy. False starts, abandoned drafts, stories that don't quite work, and the sheer volume of practice required are not signs that you're doing it wrong. They are part of the work. A gentle but honest episode about ambition, effort, StoryADay May, avoiding burnout, and building a writing life that makes room for a stupendous amount of writing. This Week's Question What will you write this week? How many times will you show up for your writing? Don't go from zero to sixty. Increase your commitment a little. Give yourself the chance to discover what happens when writing becomes something you return to, again and again. What if the most spiritual thing you could do today was ask God for groceries? Jesus had five petitions to teach his disciples to pray and the first one about human need wasn't forgiveness, or deliverance, or wisdom. It was bread. When we look at the Lord's Prayer from this perspective, we find that it's not a throwaway request. It's a window into the character of God, a diagnosis of one of the deepest idols of the human heart, and an invitation to a completely different way of moving through your week.
The Step Back Man Swing System, Pitch Count Horrors & Choosing the Harder ThingIn this episode of "the world's most dangerous youth baseball podcast," host Deven Morgan uses Mike Trout's new step-back load to launch a takedown of one-system hitting instruction and tee-obsessed youth development — if one of the best players ever is adding new moves mid-career, what are we doing grooming 10-year-olds for aesthetic perfection? He then dismantles Mark DeRosa's claim that Kevin McGonigle's bat speed "can't be taught," arguing that rising velocity thresholds across baseball prove elite output is far more accessible than conventional wisdom admits. "This Week in Pitch Counts" returns with horror shows — a 14U kid throwing 168 pitches across two days, a 75-pitch one-inning outing in April — contrasted with coaches in Georgia who proactively coordinated workload across a player's two teams. The episode closes with a personal reflection on parenting a junior through his high school season: the highs of a 13-K complete game shutout, the emotional weight of recruiting timelines, and a couch conversation where his son, facing a step up to national-level summer competition, simply said "I'm ready" — a moment Deven values not for baseball, but for what it reveals about character.Timestamps:00:00 Intro & Housekeeping: Tryouts Now Open03:40 Step Back Man: Mike Trout's New Load & the Myth of One Swing09:20 Why Young Hitters Get "Bodied" by the Bat — Engine Before Skill11:00 The Tee Problem: Blocked Reps vs. Perception-Action Coupling14:00 Train Parents to Flip, Not to Coach Mechanics15:20 The Grocery List of Swing Flaws — Who Cares If He Catches Barrels?19:30 "You Can't Teach That" — DeRosa, McGonigle & the Walled Garden of Performance26:00 This Week in Pitch Counts: 168 Pitches in Two Days34:45 75 Pitches in One Inning — "It Ain't Little League Elbow, It's Who-Cares-About-Your-Elbow"38:15 Doing It Right: Distributed Pitching & the Walt Schiller / Rodney Dickerson Example48:00 Junior Year: Complete Game Shutout, Recruiting Pressure & Learning Over Fear01:01:50 The Parent Signal: Accountability for How We Treat Poor Performance01:05:00 "I'm Ready" — Choosing the Harder Thing01:07:00 Aging, Perspective & What Character Reveals01:11:50 Closing: Roman Reigns, Tryouts & Powered by DrivelineLinks:https://t.co/R7TLVHE2EU

In this week's episode, Alyssa and Nadia open with the reason Nadia barely has a voice: nationals in Alabama, a weekend of yelling, and a concert the night before. The main story follows Alyssa's latest Instagram-ad purchase: a Hume body pod, a smart scale that measures things like body fat, visceral fat, muscle mass, and bone mass. Curious about her health as she approaches 50 — and noticing more women on GLP-1 medications losing weight but also showing up with injuries — she wanted a better way to understand where weight loss was actually coming from.Instead, the scan gave her worse results than expected and sent her into a mini spiral. Within 48 hours, she had asked AI for a meal plan, bought groceries, started weight training, and even contacted a private chef. Nadia reacts with a mix of disbelief and amusement, but the conversation also touches on something deeper: Alyssa's history of anxiety around health tracking. She shares how monitoring her blood pressure once triggered a panic cycle, and Nadia adds that a teammate had a similar experience after obsessively watching her Garmin heart rate.Things get even more interesting when Alyssa finds out her husband had already bought a different body composition scale and hidden it while Nadia and Lucy were home. When the two scales showed different results, it raised a bigger question about how accurate any of these devices really are. Alyssa decides the best next step is a DEXA scan to get a baseline and figure out whether either scale is worth keeping. The episode ends on a lighter note with Alyssa's other ad-fueled regret: three “perfect” t-shirts that turned out to be neither perfect nor refundable. Nadia gives her verdict, and they wrap up with voice recovery tips like ginger turmeric tea with honey, Flonase, and the reminder that raspiness is better than whispering.TakeawaysHealth tracking tools can be genuinely useful, but knowing your own psychological relationship with numbers before you buy is just as important as the data itselfMonitoring a metric you're anxious about can make that metric worse — the feedback loop between anxiety and physiology is realBody composition scales vary significantly in accuracy, and comparing two against a gold standard like a DEXA scan is a smarter starting point than trusting either one blindlyGLP-1 medications are changing the bodies of a lot of people, and the question of what's being lost alongside the weight is worth paying attention toAI-generated meal plans and workout routines aren't inherently bad starting points — but they work better when you bring some of your own knowledge to the tableResistance training matters more as you age, especially for women approaching 50, even if it's not your favorite kind of movementHiding body composition tools from teenagers in the house is a form of care — some information isn't neutral for everyoneChapters0:10–1:04 — Where Did Nadia's Voice Go? Learn how to prep upland game birds for taxidermy including pheasants. Plus tired of the question "What's for Dinner?" Meal kits: are they worth it? Join radio hosts Rebecca Wanner aka ‘BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt (Tigger & BEC) with the latest in Outdoors & Western Lifestyle News! Season 5, Episode 259 Why Proper Prep Matters: Upland Game Bird Taxidermy Basics The Do, The Do Not & Did You Know About Pheasants Upland birds taken early in the season do not make great mounts due to the fragile pin feathers. Best to mount pheasants harvested in November and December. Do not ring the neck of a possible pheasant to mount as it will stretch the neck. Cool the pheasant immediately. Wrap the feet and beak in wet paper towels. Double bag the pheasant before placing it in the freezer. This will keep the bird from drying out until received by a taxidermist. Do NOT place birds in panty hose. A panty hose causes a bird to quickly dry out during freezing making it difficult, to almost impossible, to mount by a taxidermist at a later date. How Meal Kits Compare to DIY Cooking (Pros & Cons) Meal Kit Companies: Examples - Hello Fresh, Blue Apron, Home Chef too many to mention. I have personal experience with Hello Fresh, one of the oldest of the Meal Kit Companies out there. Are Meal Kit Companies actually “Good”, like taste good? YES - There are typically close to a 100 different recipes to choose from, and the meals typically take only 30 minutes. What's included? Your proteins of choice plus delicious sides. Never liked Sweet Potatoes… Follow their easy recipes, and you might change your mind. I did! Are the ingredients Fresh? YES! They are packed in a box with ice and in packaging that keeps everything fresh, if there was ever a leak - No questions, money was returned with the option to send another meal. Cost? Is it really affordable? Depends on your spending habits. If you are someone that is tempted by “Impulse Buys” like… Ohhhh I need that, even though it's not on “The Grocery List”... Then you are like me, and every trip that keeps me out of the store typically saves me money! Costs typically range from $3 to $12 per serving, based on the service, meal plan What is my favorite part about meal kits? 1st - Learning new culinary skills! We are currently not subscribed to a Meal Kit company, however I greatly improved my skills in the kitchen thanks to them! For example, I typically strongly dislike Meatloaf… Sorry, I know it's a comfort food for many. However - Thanks to here and there subscribing to a Meal Kit service… I now make an amazing Balsamic Rosemary Meatloaf… And if you've not had my Garlic Mashed potatoes.. You are missing out! YUM! 2nd - Taking a break from the nightly battle of “What's for Supper.” They service actually helped me plan better when not using it as I realized that if I just take out some meat from the freezer on Sunday nights, than I have set us up for a successful week of “getting it all cooked” throughout the week as no one wants to throw away the most expensive part of any meal… The meat! Today's episode is sparked by a post that's been making waves online. It goes like this:“If this was your weekly grocery list: – 2 cartons of eggs – 2–4 grass-fed steaks – 2–3 lbs of ground beef – 1 whole chicken and fish – Vegetables of choice – Avocados and berries – 2 large Greek yogurtsYou'd lose fat, gain muscle, and have zero food cravings.”Sounds pretty good, right? But is it really that simple? Could this be the secret we've all been missing? Or is this another one-size-fits-all oversimplification dressed up as nutrition advice?Let's break it down — with science, real-life application, and practical tips for anyone chasing fat loss, muscle gain, and long-term health.Resources:Brain.fm App(First month Free, then 20% off subscription)Discount Code: coachdamiensdCaldera Lab Skin Carewww.calderalab.comDiscount Code: CoachDLinks:IG:@coachdamien_sd@damienrayevans@livinthedream_podcast YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS6VuPgtVsdBpDj5oN3YQTgFB:https://www.facebook.com/coachdamienSD/

In the Main Topic today, Jay and Amanda go to the grocery store to test out the grocery clicker and see if they could predict what the total of their grocery list would be - like the Price is Right! Do you think the grocery clicker would help you spend less at the grocery store? Please don't forget to like, share, and subscribe! Doing so helps us grow and share HopeFilled financial wisdom. Today we are taking the complicated out of eating mostly whole foods and high protein at home in a way that makes you feel full and energized. It's taken me so many years of learning and spending money on experts to help me figure it all out. Now every persons body is different of course but I'm sharing lots of ideas of you to chose from to eat in a way that reduces inflammation in your body and helps you be your healthiest and can help you lose weight, all while feeling satisfied. I'm giving you a grocery list to follow to make it all simple and not so complicated. Because this is what I know… most people aren't eating enough protein and are eating too much processed foods. Most people say they are tired and often times we want to healthier but it's hard to know where to start. I also know that we must have a strong plan in order to stick to our goals. So this is our plan for eating to feel our best in the short term and long term. Eating for energy and longevity and the part I think that most people miss with this - buying organic and grass fed items are always more expensive than the regular but if you prep it the right way, it is absolutely less expensive than ordering in. And if you know me you know there are some awesome healthy treats in the plan too, because that's what makes it sustainable in the long term. We are full and satisfied and know it's not at all a diet, but rather a lifestyle to feel our best. Let's go! Here is your grocery list *Grassfed ground beef or steaks *Organic ground chicken or turkey *Organic pasture raised eggs *1 organic butter lettuce *1 organic head of iceberg lettuce *1 organic rotisserie chicken *Veggies like zucchini, onions, peppers *Avocados (1 per day) *Berries *2 large organic greek yogurts Then some throw ins to make all of this sustainable *Siete toritilla chips *Grain free tortillas *Grass fed organic cheese, raw if possible *Organic dark chocolate *Raw honey *Bananas & peanut butter And to cook it in… *Avocado oil *Coconut oil *Olive oil How to make the money go the furthest! Protein amounts... An egg has 6g of protein A chicken breast as about 40g of protein One pound of ground beef has 65g of protein Some seeds can be great too like hemp seeds and pumpkin seeds So if your goal is 1g of protein per pound of body weight- you can divide out how much protein you need per meal. My goal is 120g per day so I plan for about 40-50g per meal and I have 3 meals. I think the KEY to all of this is to base your meals around protein and mostly whole foods. Get some veggies and some carbs and you're nice and full and happy! Other options based on preferences! *Halibut or salmon -always wild caught *Canned tuna or chicken *Flax seeds and chia seeds *Protein powders! Take this list with you to the grocery store! XO Lindsay
