Boomer crossed-paths with his old Bengals teammate, Ickey Woods on Sunday in Kansas City and may or may not see him again in LA a couple of weeks from now.
Ickey Woods gained nationwide fame doing his "Ickey Shuffle" touchdown dance during the Bengals' run to the Super Bowl in 1988 season. He loves seeing the city come alive again amid the Bengals' run to Sunday's AFC Championship game in Kansas City. "It's been a long way for us – and it's about time," Woods told The Enquirer's "That's So Cincinnati" podcast. "These guys are doing a great job. The kid, Joe Burrow, is a very unbelievable guy. He just has that 'it' factor. He's just unbelievable." Woods, 55, has remained connected to the Bengals since his playing career ended in 1991. He runs a concession stand at every Bengals home game at Paul Brown Stadium. The proceeds from concession sales help support the Jovante Woods Foundation, which raises money and awareness for Asthma research in honor of Ickey Woods' late son. The legend of the "Ickey Shuffle" has lived on. In 2014, Woods was featured doing the dance in a Geico commercial. (Find out on "That's So Cincinnati" which two versions of the commercial ended up on the cutting-room floor.) Bengals fans got treated with the "Ickey Shuffle" in the home playoff against Las Vegas on Jan. 15. Tight end C.J. Uzomah did the shuffle after scoring a first quarter touchdown. Woods was at Paull Brown Stadium to see it. "He was doing a good job of it, too," Woods said.

During this episode of This Thing Called Life podcast, host Andi Johnson talks to Ickey Woods, a former American football player - Cincinnati Bengals Fullback. Sadly, he lost his son, Elbert Jovante Woods, 10 years ago. Now Ickey and his family are trying to make a difference in the world by educating others about organ donation and asthma. Episode Highlights: Ickey shares his story about being outside doing yard work when he received a call from home that his son, Elbert had collapsed. As Ickey rushed to the spot, he saw an ambulance, and in that, they were trying to resuscitate his son. They all soon headed to the hospital. The moment Ickey entered the hospital and opened the door, he saw a Chaplain. His son's brain had been without oxygen for about 30 minutes while he was being taken to the hospital Due to lack of oxygen, Jovante's brain had started to swell, which the doctor said was not a good sign. A couple of days later, in a heart-breaking turn of events, the doctor pronounced Ickey's son as Brain Dead. Ickey and his wife decided to pull the plug. Two women from the life center visited them and informed Ickey and his wife that their son had said yes on the driver's permit that he wanted to donate his organs. Ickey had never heard anything about organ donation, and in the African American community, there aren't many organ donors. So, he was really taken aback hearing about his son's choice. Ickey discussed organ donation with his wife, and they mutually made their decision based on what Jovante wanted. Ickey talks about the foundation that he and his family members have created in memory and honor of Jovante. Through the foundation, Ickey and his wife's goal is to educate people about asthma and organ donation. Ickey shares details about the scholarship that they provide to students through the Jovante Woods Foundation. Andi asks Ickey how he coped with Jovante's untimely demise. Ickey talks about his heart-breaking efforts to stay strong and support his family. Finally, launching the foundation in Jovante's memory gave Ickey some direction and peace of mind. 3 Key Points: Ickey Woods takes the listeners on an emotional ride while sharing details of his son's death. He also talks about Jovante's decision for organ donation. Jovante saved 4 lives with his organs and countless others with his tissues. Ickey felt really proud of his son and had registered himself and his family members for organ donation. Andi and Ickey talk about the misconceptions surrounding organ donation and the importance of educating people. Shuffling to In The Trenches with Dave Lapham presented by First Star Logistics is former Cincinnati Bengals running back Ickey Woods. To say Ickey Woods took Cincinnati by storm during his rookie year of 1988 is an understatement. Woods would set a then franchise rookie record of 1,066 rushing yards in helping the Bengals reach Super Bowl XXIII. However, it would be his end zone dance, the "Ickey Shuffle" that had America talking and Bengals owner Paul Brown dancing. Ickey talks about his youth in Fresno, California, prep athletic career, and college career that led him to become a Bengals and the NFL member. He'll also talk about how the Ickey Shuffle came to be and the disappointment in the Bengals loss on and off the field in Super Bowl XXIII to the San Francisco 49ers. As fast as Ickey Woods hit the NFL, injuries would sideline him with two knee injuries. Ickey Woods has tackled the ups and downs of life with the same energy and passion he attacked opposing defenders. Learn what Ickey is up to now and more in this special In The Trenches with Dave Lapham and Elbert L. "Ickey" Woods.
