One out of every five deaths in the US is caused by heart disease, and the forever chemicals hiding in your cookware could be contributing to this epidemic. David Barrett, owner of Chef's Foundry, reveals how PFAS chemicals in non-stick cookware raise cholesterol, increase blood pressure, disrupt thyroid function, slow metabolism, and even increase risk of cardiovascular events. These forever chemicals don't just stay on your pans—they incorporate into your cell membranes and accumulate in your body fat, making them nearly impossible to eliminate. Even one small scratch on a non-stick surface can release 9,000 toxic particles into your food, while heavy scratching releases up to 2 million particles. David shares the shocking DuPont scandal behind Teflon, the truth about "greenwashed" non-stick cookware, and why those flu-like symptoms after cooking might actually be "Teflon flu." Plus, learn which safe cookware options actually work and how to choose between ceramic, stainless steel, and cast iron alternatives. "You really do need to avoid any cookware that has forever chemicals in them. It's not just cookware; they're found in clothing, cosmetics, tap water." ~ David Barrett In This Episode: - David's story and why he started a cookware company - Common toxins found in conventional cookware - The link between PFAS and cardiovascular disease - Tips for mitigating exposure to Teflon - The problem with "greenwashed" non-toxic cookware - David's cookware recommendations and preferred materials - Issues with cast iron cookware - Benefits of P600 cookware with ILAG coating - Dangers of enamel-coated cookware - David's final advice For more information, visit https://www.myersdetox.com Ready to detox heavy metals? I sometimes wonder if joy is not the new apologetic for a world that no longer believes in rational argument. I read this week a story about David Barrett. He was an Anglican missionary who studied evangelism globally. He was giving a talk to a group of influential businessmen. During his talk, a gentleman raised his hand and asked, “Professor Barrett, can you tell us what's the most effective missionary tool the church has.” Barrett replied, “Based on our research, I'd have to say the answer is martyrdom.” There was a long silence, then another man asked, “Professor Barrett, can you tell us what the second most effective missionary tool would be?” I suppose what Barrett is getting at is that, while history is full of stoics who would die for their country or for a person, only the Christians have died with joy. This was unprecedented. It was because of hope! This week we are looking at joy as it relates to hope. Hope and joy are bound up together in the Bible. Hope in the Bible is not a wish that something in the future would come true, though that has power as well. But hope in the Bible is a certainty not just that all will be well in the future but that all will be restored! It is so powerful, it actually is fuel for our lives when things are hard, not in spite of the hardship but in the midst of it, and can actually color our lives with joy. There is a “way” to joy. Psalm 98, while an unabashed celebration of joy unspeakable, also offers a way out of bitterness and self-pity. As we know, “pain is unavoidable, but we can miss joy.” (Tim Hansel, You Gotta Keep Dancin') What a story we might tell if we were the people of joy even and especially in the difficulties of living in a fallen world. We will talk about this and more on Sunday. Also, as we move into our third week of raising money for our place of joy, Our Big Backyard, begin to prayerfully consider what investment you can make in future joy at St. Patrick. Then, in faith, fill out a pledge card and drop in the offering plate or in the collection box in the Narthex as you leave.

Summary of the Passage (Matthew 5:27-32): In this passage, Jesus addresses the seventh commandment, “you shall not commit adultery,” and ties it into lust. His words cut like a double-edged sword as He tells us that looking at someone with lust is the equivalence of committing adultery and that we should sacrifice sinful parts of ourselves lest our whole selves be subject to damnation. This section ends with Jesus' counter-cultural message in Biblical times and today's world: divorce is acceptable before God only in cases of sexual immorality and minimal other exceptions stated later by Paul. Discussion Questions: 1. Verse 27-28: Lusting and our Trust in God - Why do you think Jesus says that anyone who has looked at somebody else with “lustful intent,” has already committed adultery? How do our thoughts and behaviors expose what we truly believe in our hearts about God and His creation? 2. Verses 22-30: Counting the Cost of Following Christ - Jesus' words are severe when He tells us to sever our body parts so that the whole body may be holy before the Lord: why is Jesus so convicted of this point? Why do you think we are not as passionate about crucifying our flesh and our sin to follow Jesus? 3. Verses 31-32: Divorce and Jesus as the Bridegroom - What does Jesus' teaching on divorce tell you about how God values marriage? How does this teaching over divorce play into the Gospel overall? *Refer to other Scripture to see how God views and describes marriage (Genesis 2:18-24, Exodus 20:14, Matthew 19:1-9, Ephesians 5:22-33). 4. Time of Confession - Confess the sins discussed in this passage or other areas of life that may bring deep shame and embarrassment before your life group full of COMMUNITY who care about you. Pray Romans 8:38-39 over each other.

David Barrett has been doing investigations into the supernatural for almost twenty years. He has traveled to the United States and the United Kingdom to investigate some of the most haunted locales in both countries. He is an expert in using a variety of ITC equipment in order to have conversations with the departed. He is the author of three books, all of which focus on myths and legends around the world. On this episode of The Grave Talks, we find out about his encounters with the otherworldly. Is there a level of security for a spirit to attach to an object, why not just wander free? What kind of energy or spirit would attach itself to a 1700's beheading sword, such as the one David Barrett owns? Has David ever had or heard of an object that was “too haunted” to keep in their possession? What have are some of the requests that have been made to David over the years in his investigations? Today I'm speaking with evolutionary behavioural scientist, Tamas David Barrett. His work focuses on how the structure of social networks change during falling fertility, urbanisation, and migration; as well as, how social networks vary over the human life-course. Tamás's current projects include the origins of inequality regulation; why the behavioural rules between women and men vary so much across cultures; and the evolutionary foundations of sharing behaviour. Tamás teaches Trinity College, University of Oxford in the United Kingdom, and is affiliated with the Population Studies Research Institute in Helsinki, Finland. He is a fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute.
