On Episode 129 of Wrestling Tonight, we examine a wrestling landscape defined by momentum, contradiction, and long-overdue reckonings. Gunther has once again ascended to the top of WWE's mountain, reclaiming the World Heavyweight Championship with a decisive victory over Jey Uso on Raw. After a legendary Intercontinental reign and a prior world title run, this latest chapter only reaffirms what many already knew—Gunther represents stability, precision, and quiet dominance in an era often ruled by noise. But if Gunther embodies discipline, CM Punk continues to wrestle with dualities—especially his own. Punk is now officially headed to Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia, where he'll face John Cena in a high-profile rematch years in the making. The match is compelling on paper, but the context is impossible to ignore. For much of his career, Punk positioned himself as a vocal critic of WWE's Saudi partnership. His participation now marks a sharp pivot—and raises fair questions about where principle ends and pragmatism begins. Across the globe, AEW prepares for a milestone event with Grand Slam: Mexico, a historic collaboration with CMLL at Arena México. The card brings together AEW's signature stars and Mexico's rich lucha tradition: MJF vs. Mistico, Mercedes Moné defending the CMLL Women's Championship, Ricochet returning to his roots in a four-way spectacle, and a lineup of elite trios competition featuring Okada, Ospreay, FTR, and more. It's not just a supercard—it's a cultural statement about what AEW wants to be. In Japan, NJPW's Dominion delivered a slate of meaningful outcomes and subtle shifts. Hirooki Goto retained the IWGP World Heavyweight Title after a grueling defense against Shingo Takagi, Konosuke Takeshita continues to cement his position ahead of the G1 despite his loss to Oleg Boltin, and EVIL's vicious dog collar match win over David Finlay paired with the Bullet Club's unraveling. With questions lingering around Hiroshi Tanahashi's G1 future, Dominion felt less like a culmination and more like a prologue to what's ahead. From Toronto to Tokyo, Mexico City to Riyadh, professional wrestling continues to evolve—sometimes with purpose, sometimes with contradiction, and always with stories that reflect more than what happens in the ring. Subscribe to Wrestling Tonight on Spotify, and Apple Podcasts, and follow @TurnbuckleTavern for weekly insight across WWE, AEW, NJPW, TNA, GCW, and beyond.

Acefield Retro & Chad are your hosts for Episode 115 of Wrestling Tonight, breaking down an eventful week in pro wrestling that reshaped the landscape across AEW, WWE, and beyond. AEW Revolution delivered a night filled with high-stakes matches, career-defining performances, and major title implications. Jon Moxley retained his AEW World Championship in a hard-fought battle, but the night truly belonged to Toni Storm and Mariah May. Their Falls Count Anywhere match, billed as The Hollywood Ending, lived up to its name—an emotional, brutal, and visually stunning war that left the AEW Women's Division forever changed. Kenny Omega, in only his fourth match back from injury, reclaimed gold in a must-see battle with Konosuke Takeshita, while Will Ospreay and Kyle Fletcher turned their deeply personal rivalry into an all-time great steel cage match. Swerve Strickland cemented himself as the next World Title challenger after a grueling victory over Ricochet, setting the stage for what could be AEW's next marquee feud. The fallout from Revolution will no doubt define the company's direction in the months ahead. Meanwhile, WWE saw multiple title changes and a dramatic escalation on the road to WrestleMania 41. IYO SKY ended Rhea Ripley's dominant reign to capture the WWE Women's World Championship in a result that stunned fans. LA Knight recaptured the United States Title in a hard-hitting rematch against Shinsuke Nakamura, while Shawn Spears shocked NXT by seizing the North American Championship from Tony D'Angelo, taking advantage of a lingering injury. But the most talked-about moment came at Elimination Chamber, where John Cena's long-teased heel turn became reality. After aligning with The Rock, Cena left Cody Rhodes battered and bloodied in a post-match attack—but it was rapper Travis Scott who delivered the most unexpected blow. A stiff slap to Rhodes ruptured his eardrum, raising questions about whether Cody will be at full strength heading into his WrestleMania 41 title defense. Over on SmackDown, another long-running mystery was finally solved. Jade Cargill made her return and confronted Naomi, revealing her as the one who had attacked her months ago. With the truth finally out, Jade wasted no time in seeking revenge, setting the stage for an intensely personal showdown in the near future. Elsewhere, the WrestleMania 41 build continues to take shape. CM Punk and Seth Rollins are set to collide in a steel cage match, The Rock's presence looms large over the title picture, and AJ Styles is ready to call out Logan Paul in what promises to be a heated confrontation at Madison Square Garden. Beyond WWE and AEW, the wrestling world remains in motion. TNA is making moves with the return of Chavo Guerrero Jr., the exit of Alex Hammerstone, and Eddie & Alisha Edwards committing to long-term deals. Cora Jade is set to challenge Masha Slamovich for the Knockouts Title at Sacrifice, while NJPW's championship landscape continues to evolve with Yuji Nagata stepping into a rare IWGP World Heavyweight Title match. Meanwhile, Zack Sabre Jr. is gearing up for a loaded WrestleMania weekend schedule, making multiple high-profile GCW appearances. And as for Travis Scott—was Elimination Chamber a one-off cameo, or is WWE positioning him for something bigger? His unexpected role in Cody Rhodes' brutal beatdown has sparked speculation that his involvement in WWE may not be over just yet. With AEW's Revolution reshaping the company's landscape, WWE's WrestleMania build reaching new levels of intensity, and TNA and NJPW making key moves, this is a week packed with major developments. Join us as we break it all down. Follow us @TurnbuckleTavern and join the Patreon for just $2.99 a month to get exclusive content and support the show!

MLW's CEO Court Bauer released a statement saying, “I think we speak for the rest of the professional wrestling world when we say that this anti-competitive behavior has to stop.” WWE says the claims have no merit. Is this the last time we'll see Styles on NXT? (Styles In NXT) That clip from WWE's social media. Edris Enofe & Malik Blade will be in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic…after they got a disqualification win in a play-in match against Joe Gacy & Harland. Also, Indi Hartwell, Persia Pirotta & Wendy Choo beat Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter and Amari Miller…Cameron Grimes beat Damon Kemp…Solo Sikoa and Boa fought to a double count-out. They brawled backstage where a fireball hit Sikoa in the face. Von Wagner was suspended and fined for attacking a fan last week. Sammy Guevara defends against Daniel Garcia. Also tonight…CM Punk vs. Wardlow…Hikaru Shida vs. Serena Deeb…and Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Dante Martin. Two title eliminator matches on last night's Dark. The AEW Tag Champs Jurassic Express beat QT Marshall & Nick Comoroto…and the TBS Champ Jade Cargill beat Skye Blue. Also last night..AEW Champion Hangman Page & Dark Order's Alan Angels & 10 beat Matt Hardy, Serpentico & Isiah Kassidy. Plus, Eddie Kingston beat Joey Janela. Listen and subscribe at www.JustProWrestlingNews.com I'm Matt Carlins and this is JUST Pro Wrestling News for Monday, August 16, 2021. This update is brought to you by IndyWrestling.us. (STINGER: WWE) Tonight's Raw is the last one before SummerSlam on Saturday. Randy Orton is set to go one-on-one against one half of the Raw Tag Team Champions Omos. Plus, Drew McIntyre in a 2-on-1 match against Veer and Shanky, and this match will have implications for McIntyre's SummerSlam match against Jinder Mahal. If McIntyre wins, Veer and Shanky will be banned from ringside. If Veer & Shanky win, McIntyre's sword “Angela” will be banned for the SummerSlam match. Raw is also promoting a face-to-face confrontation between WWE Champ Bobby Lashley and his SummerSlam opponent Goldberg. (STINGER: New Japan) New Japan's Super Junior Tag League resumes Monday - but it's overshadowed by last-minute changes to the card. This all started with IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Shingo Takagi and BUSHI missing Sunday's show. New Japan said both had fevers and they are awaiting the results of PCR tests. So, as a precaution, Shingo and BUSHI are off of Monday's show as well, along with six other wrestlers who had contact with them: Tetsuya Naito, SANADA, EVIL, Yujiro Takahashi, Gedo and Dick Togo. Gedo and Togo are part of the Super Junior Tag League - but because they are off of Monday's show a win will be awarded to Ryusuke Taguchi & Master Wato. Here's the outlook for the rest of the team in their penultimate matches of the tournament. The team of Jr. Heavyweight Champ Robbie Eagles & Tiger Mask can secure victory in the tournament with a win Monday over the Jr. Tag Champs Taiji Ishimori & El Phantasmo. But a win for the Bullet Club side puts them in position to take the tournament. El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru need a win over Roppongi 3K to stay alive in the tournament. Roppongi 3K are already eliminated. New Japan's Resurgence in Los Angeles Saturday night was a very eventful show. Will Ospreay returned...and brought along a version of the IWGP World Heavyweight Title, calling it the “real” championship belt. Ospreay vacated the title back in May. He said he is now medically cleared, but will NOT be part of this year's G1 Climax tournament. In fact, Ospreay said he will not return to Japan until Shingo Takagi is declared an “interim” champion. Ospreay eventually retreated after he was confronted by Karl Fredericks, Clark Conners and TJP. The Guerrillas Of Destiny made a surprise appearance at Resurgence...to confront the Good Brothers, who left before any punches could be thrown. The Good Brothers had just beaten Jon Moxley & Yuji Nagata, pinning Nagata with a Magic Killer. Hiroshi Tanahashi is the new IWGP U.S. Champion. He dethroned Lance Archer. Jay White pinned David Finlay with the Bladerunner to retain his NEVER Openweight Title. Tomohiro Ishii was out after the match to challenge White. Earlier, Ishii pinned Moose with a brainbuster. Yuya Uemura - on the first day of his excursion PINNED Danny Limelight to win a 10-man tag. After the match, Katsuyori Shibata strolled out to personally welcome Uemura into the LA Dojo. Juice Robinson pinned Hiluleo with a rollup. Then, got a chokeslam for his troubles. New Japan announced before the show that Brody King was unable to compete due to “unforeseen circumstances”. King later tweeted that he's “okay”. The next big show for New Japan in the U.S. will be in San Jose on November 13th. Jay White, Jon Moxley and Tomohiro Ishii are all announced for that show. Back in Japan, a champion in Pro-Wrestling NOAH now holds the top title in ZERO1. GHC National Champion Takashi Sugiura pinned Masato Tanaka on Sunday to win the ZERO1 World Heavyweight Championship. (STINGER: AEW) Tonight's AEW Dark: Elevation has Joey Janela vs. Alan “5” Angels...the Lucha Brothers vs. The Hybrid2...Diamante vs. Julia Hart...and Kiera Hogan's AEW debut against Hikaru Shida. Kenny Omega is STILL the AAA Mega Champion. He beat Andrade El Idolo at TripleMania XXIX Saturday night. Ric Flair was in Andrade's corner...and at one point during the match, Flair was firing chops on Omega. Also on the show, Impact Knockouts Champ Deonna Purrazzo beat Faby Apache to take AAA's women's title...the Lucha Brothers retained the AAA Tag Titles...and Psycho Clown defeated Rey Escorpion in the Mask vs. Hair main event...leading to Escorpion being shaved bald. (STINGER: Impact) The next #1 contender for the Impact World Championship will be decided at Emergence...in a 4-Way: Moose vs. Chris Sabin vs. Sami Callihan vs. Ace Austin. That show is an Impact Plus exclusive coming up on Friday. Also on that show, Christian Cage will defend the Impact Title for the first time...against Brian Myers. This week on Wrestling Omakase we review two of the biggest shows from Japan in quite a while: NJPW Dominion and the CyberFight Festival! The Wrestling Omakase Patreon is your best source for coverage of Japanese wrestling, from yesterday and today. We're in the middle of our series covering every Tanahashi vs. Naito match in order, but we'll be taking a pause this week to bring you exclusive tournament coverage of the 1st Round of the 2021 King of DDT! Plus: our latest Retro Roulette episode, NJPW Dominion Retro Roulette, coming next week exclusively to the Patreon! You get access to all of this plus everything else we've ever done- matches requested by patrons, every Tokyo Dome main event through 1995 (with more to come), all the major tournaments of the past year covered, ANIME OMAKASE, and much more! You can get all of this right now for only $5 at http://patreon.com/wrestlingomakaseJohn is joined by returning guest, VOW contributor and ex-Wednesday Wargames co-host Liam (@TheGLEATMuta), as they start out by discussing how bad American wrestling is for some reason. Also, John gives Liam some lessons on hockey (this happens at the start AND the end of the show) while cursing the damn Islanders. Once that's out of the way they get into the first of two major shows, NJPW Dominion, and Shingo Takagi's huge IWGP World Heavyweight Title victory. The two of them break it down from every possible angle, going quite a while on both Shingo's win, what it could mean about NJPW's future booking plans (and what the original plans may have been before Will Ospreay lost his smile or whatever), and of course give a full review of the match. They then break down the rest of the card, including Kota Ibushi vs. Jeff Cobb, the junior title match and more. Then they turn their attention to the stacked CyberFight Festival, the big interpromotional NOAH/DDT/Tokyo Joshi/Ganbare show from Saitama Super Arena. They review all FIFTEEN (!) matches, obviously some in a little more detail than others, starting at the top with a great triple main event and heading into some awesome NOAH vs. DDT matches, a not-quite-as-awesome undercard, some thoughts on the English commentary, and a whole lot more. Finally, they give a brief preview of the upcoming King of DDT 1st Round & Tokyo Joshi's next Korakuen, plus a couple notes on upcoming NOAH events. This week's edition of Wrestling Omakase is sponsored by Manscaped. After the match, Muto was challenged by Naomichi Marufuji...and that match is now set for the Cyber Fight Festival on June 6th. One other note from Thursday's show. Yoshinari Ogawa and HAYATA are still the GHC Jr. Tag Team Champs. They fought off a challenge from Ikuto Hidaka and NOSAWA. (STINGER: New Japan) Tonight's New Japan Strong is an “LA Dojo Showcase”.
