Welcome to Wrestling Tonight, your weekly dive into the biggest stories across the wrestling world! This week, we recap WWE Backlash 2025, where Jeff Cobb made a surprise debut to assist Jacob Fatu in retaining the U.S. Title, Gunther overwhelmed Pat McAfee, and Lyra Valkyria edged out Becky Lynch in a standout Women's Intercontinental Title match. While the show had its moments, repeated interference and uneven pacing left some fans split. We also spotlight Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling's Northern Rising event from Toronto—an impressive showcase that saw Josh Alexander win the Canadian Championship and Gisele Shaw become the inaugural MLP Canadian Women's Champion. With Mauro Ranallo and Don Callis on commentary, MLP made a strong statement about its place on the North American scene. Over in California, NJPW Resurgence delivered a loaded card. AZM stunned Mercedes Moné and Mina Shirakawa to win the STRONG Women's Championship, while the IWGP World Title match between Hirooki Goto and Zack Sabre Jr. ended in a controversial double pin. United Empire claimed STRONG tag gold, and the generational BULLET CLUB rift deepened. Quick hitters include WWE's Night of Champions announcement for Saudi Arabia, AEW confirming Dynamite 300 for July 2 in Ontario, California, and the launch of AEW's “Grand Slam Mexico” week. Plus: Becky Lynch talks acting, MJF, and her current goals, while Shelton Benjamin publicly responds to Hulk Hogan's latest name flub. "There's a time for playing it safe and a time for... Risky Business."The Stiff Bois return to talk the big news coming out of Genesis weekend; talking Jnr Genesis, Sakura Genesis and previewing Windy City Riot. The lads start the show with an Ode to Korakuen, chat Despy the Ace, Connors character affirmation, the two Robbies and the BoSJ field. Then its on to Sneaky Snake SANADA, the now annual Dog Pound Cage Match(?), United Empire on rules and internet discourse, the Hybrid nature of NEVER, Tsuji St Elmo, Goto v Finlay and the risky business that is Shota back on top. The Stiff Bois get to do what they love the most: preview a big show (and a nice looking Jnr show) by exploring smellness, throwing on their conspiracy caps, and debating as many logical outcomes and directions they can see. Should we expect David Finlay? Where to for Shota? How many feuds can EVIL manage? Is there a way forward for United Empire as currently positioned? Should we want more for ELP?Plus, the lads discuss the fall out to their Observer chat last week and try to offer some clarity, and they lament the take off of the Jet from NJPW. Steven Conway and Jeremy Finestone are back with a special edition of Speaking of Strong Style covering Windy City Riot! The guys were joined by Josh from the We Work Stiff podcast just after end of the big event from Chicago. Josh gave his thoughtful perspective on New Japan's storylines and how they shape the upcoming year in NJPW. The trio discussed Jon Moxley's victory over Tetsuya Naito for the IWGP World Heavyweight title, and why this could be a unique opportunity for both New Japan and AEW to benefit from it. They also talked about Zack Sabre Jr. taking the TV title back from Matt Riddle, and why they're glad to see the bro go. Jeremy, Steven and Josh also covered TMKD winning the Strong Tag Team titles, Jack Perry's strong run in NJPW, why Stephanie Vaquer is making such an excellent NJPW Strong women's champion, and what the future might hold for Hiromu Takahashi, United Empire, Ren Narita, Shota Umino and much more.
This week, Steven and Jeremy talked about the finale of the New Japan Cup, and how the story of Yota Tsuji and Hirooki Goto gave the company a strong finish to a weak tournament. They also looked at how far Goto was going to go, and whether David Finlay's illness changed the company's plans for the tournament. They also discussed some upcoming matchups, including Jon Moxley teaming with Shota Umino, and if we'll be calling Moxley the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion soon. They also talked about the futures of the War Dogs, United Empire, Shingo Takagi, SHO and YOH, and a lot more. Also, will Hiromu Takahashi and Mustafa Ali be wrestling for a TNA title at Windy City Riot?

This week, Steven and Jeremy looked to two major shows in the next couple of days, as New Beginning in Sapporo approaches. These shows could point toward a new course for the company, and they previewed the shows match-by-match. That preview included a slew of title matches featuring Tetsuya Naito, SANADA, Nic Nemeth and David Finaly in main events. They also speculated on the future of the CHAOS and United Empire factions as Kazuchika Okada has his final matches with the company. Plus, they previewed the big Hair versus Hair match between Yota Tsuji and Yuya Uemura, a crossroads NEVER Openweight title match between EVIL and Shota Umino, Matt Riddle challenging Hiroshi Tanahashi for the TV title, El Desperado versus SHO with a potentially interesting stipulation that could take SHO out of House of Torture, and Mayu Iwantani defending her IWGP Women's title against Mina Shirakawa. They also looked back at Fantasticamania and some of their favorite matches from the tour. They talked about the RevPro show and how New Japan talents such as Zack Sabre Jr., Shingo Takagi and former New Japan star Will Ospreay fared. Plus, they celebrated the excursion debut of Oskar Leube and Yuto Nakashima. They also discussed STARDOM and New Japan, their business relationship and how parent company BUSHIROAD can optimize the way the promotions work together.
This week we discuss The Rock/Bloodline segment on SmackDown, Timeless Toni Storm, Queen Aminata and NJPW Steel Cage match between War Dogs and United Empire. We play a game of picking first matches that come to mind when thinking of a wrestler.

W. Stewart Wallace (1884 - 1970) Volume 13 of The Chronicles of Canada Series. This volume sheds light on the often misunderstood Americans who chose to remain loyal to the Crown of England during and after the American Revolution. While the vast majority of American writings which detail the Revolution paint the Loyalists (sometimes called Tories) in the most negative fashion, this volume explains the reasons behind their election to flee to Canada (and other countries) rather than remain on American soil. While no exact numbers exist of Loyalists who fled to Canada in 1783-1784, the estimates of John Adams and others of the time period range in the vicinity of one third of the population, which places that number at about a million. These were not people who fled in fear, rather they were generally people who felt the benefit of support from the British Crown outweighed the support they would receive from the unproven social, financial, and political structures which had yet to be formed. Some were opportunists in search of free land. But all were a brave people who chose to leave the comfort of their homeland to help settle uncharted territories of what we now know as Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia; a people who held their heads high as they settled a largely untamed land. This means a lot of talk about the United Empire heading into the Cage match. Whether its Akira's vulnerability, TJP's possible duplicity, Okhan's emerging Empire, Ospreay's absence, Cobbs Injury or Henares war, all sides of the Empire are discussed. Also, we talk ZSJ's goals for the year in New Japan and what this match with Danielson means, the changing dynamic between Okada and Tana as they battle one last time, how Hikuelo is tasking strides towards a future that we feel he could dominate, why Hair vs Hair makes the most sense for Yuya v Yota, and we start off by spending a lot of time gushing over Henare v Gabe Kidd in a war that reflected what New Japan can, and should, be. Steven and Jeremy discussed some recent New Japan results and previewed the upcoming Korakuen Hall shows, featuring the United Empire squaring off with the War Dogs in a series of matches, plus a special gauntlet match with Tetsuya Naito's Los Ingoberable faction facing SANADA's Just 5 Guys. They also discussed why they don't think we'll be seeing Brock Lesnar back in New Japan (thank goodness). They also looked at the NJPW women's titles. With Giulia on her way out of STARDOM, what should the exit strategy be regarding the NJPW STRONG women's title? They also looked ahead to the rest of the New Beginnings tour, including Will Ospreay and Kazuchika Okada's final New Japan appearances for now, Bryan Danielson versus Zack Sabre Jr., and Nic Nemeth challenging David Finlay for the Global title. Other topics included ideas for Kosei Fujita and Oleg Boltin's excursions, and if they should even have one. Plus, the pair looked back on what was happening in New Japan at this time five years ago and in 2011, the last February in New Japan we had without Okada.
This was recorded only an hour or two before the news of Kazuchika Okada leaving was posted on the New Japan site. We will have more reaction to that huge new soon. In this episode, Jeremy and Steven talk Battle in the Valley! Jeremy attended the show in person, and saw an outstanding night of wrestling. They discuss Okada v Will Ospreay, Eddie Kingston v Gabe Kidd, Jon Moxley v Shingo Takagi, Shota Umino, Giulia and much more. The pair broke down each match on the card and why it was significant to New Japan storylines going forward. They also discussed possible leadership scenarios for United Empire, whether Matt Riddle will be able to stay in New Japan long, ideas on the NJPW Strong Women's title and how they think Jack Perry fits in the New Japan landscape. Jeremy and Steven also talked about why they think ticket sales for the upcoming Windy City Riot are selling so well. They covered the upcoming New Beginning tour, including Saturday's Tama Tonga-EVIL clash for the NEVER Openweight title and another Strong Tag Team title defense from El Phantasmo and Hikuleo, plus a wacky King of Pro Wrestling match. They also talk Fantasticamania and the big show coming in Osaka. It's all you need to know as a New Japan fan!
This week the Bois are “wrapped” with Tag League. So much so, they spend an exorbitant amount of time dissecting the first half of the tour by breaking down each team, where they're placed, what elements of character and story progression have been on display, and where this may be leading these personalities towards the end of the league; and the impact this may have on 2024 New Japan Pro Wrestling. If you want to explore the motivations behind many of these team actions and begin to consider some possible reasons for this…well, this is the episode for you! The lads provide some of their most comprehensive deep dives into Shota and Ren, Oiwa and Kiyomiya, War Dogs, United Empire, LIJ, Taichi and Yuya and NJPW's grumpiest old men. It's a Bonza episode filled to the brim with smellness, llave and excitement. New Japan Pro Wrestling's Aaron Henare is the only full-time contracted professional wrestler of Māori descent and that is not a responsibility he takes lightly. But before the United Empire, before he was the Ultimate Weapon, even before he began training as a young lion in NJPW's Dojo... he had been fighting his entire life.Listen in as Aaron rewinds all the way back to when he first saw wrestling on TV, sneaking his way to a front seat at a WWE live event and being hugged by Batista, meeting Bad Luck Fale and earning his opportunity in the Noge Dojo and everything that goes along with being part of the most effective, yet most grueling training systems in the world. The same system that prepared him to be able to overcome illness and give a 5.25 star performance with Shingo Takagi in the Ultimate Triad match that he invented!Henare's also speaks about what his heritage means to him and after being kept away for so long how he can't wait to return home, to help his people and to be a positive influence.Make sure you follow him online: @henarenz@NJPW1972 #G1CLIMAX33 starts next weekend so tune in and watch the Ultimate Weapon make a HUGE impact in this year's tournament!!RATE & SUBSCRIBE, LISTEN OR DIE!https://Linktr.ee/okadasshortsSubscribe to Patreon and hear Drop Your Shorts!Get some merch!Join the Count Out!
