This is my go-to Christmas game, it's a masterpiece, and in a lot of ways it's superior to Mario's SNES work. You all know how this game works. You play as Donkey and Diddy Kong, you're trying to get your bananas back, and you jump in a lot of barrels. The platforming in DKC is superb, the music is fire, and the level variety keeps the game fresh the whole way through. And the graphics? Get outta here...Captain N of the Retrotopia podcast joins me this week and we had a great time talking a great game. I don't know how anyone with a soul could not love this game, and aside from a couple minor gripes, we spent most of our hour together about just how special of game this is.And before we get stuck in barrels, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week someone brings up a promise I made re: Ecco the Dolphin, we talk about the must-play PS5 titles for anyone getting a system for Christmas this year, and if 'Blank Man' was a robot master, what would he be all about?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! HEAVY Music Interviews

Interview by Kris PetersForged from the survivors of Long Beach bands Damned Age, Black Velvet Brigade and Red River Massacre in 2018, Carsex pull no punches when they come to their sound, name or influences. After crossing paths many a time on the local circuit in Orange County, the five music veterans gradually built a sonic relationship that has become a live force, with Carsex releasing their self-titled effort in 2019 and the EP 2020 the following year.It has been a long five-year wait for fans of the band to hear a new body of work, which has now been rectified with the release of the seven-track EP Human Interest last week.HEAVY caught up with frontman Nigel Burk to talk more."This one is our third EP," he offered, "and is definitely our strongest effort I feel, just out of the development of the band over the years and everything. I feel like we're as much a part of each other as we can be.""So I feel like this one is probably the first one that is 100 per cent genuine, just straight from all of us as a unit. And yeah, we're super stoked on it. The basic idea… a lot of our material goes through a pretty wide variety of subjects - and lightly touches on politics to a certain degree - but I wouldn't say that much. Just really like the human condition as a broad explanation. Sometimes it's a little difficult for me to explain exactly what certain songs or the idea of the band is about, because I like for the audience to experience it for themselves. I feel like our presentation is more up for perception or subjective to the listener, because it is for us as well. It means something different to all of the band members individually as well."In the full interview, Nigel highlighted several tracks, including Sitting Ducks, addressing societal issues, and Fuck This, which explores personal struggles. He shared the inspiration behind Landmine, stemming from a personal tragedy, and discussed DKC, which reflects on school shootings. He also mentioned Stella, a hopeful song that encapsulates a journey of acceptance. The band's live performance style has developed over their years together, and they are preparing for their EP launch at The Vine in Long Beach, while also planning a small tour later in the year after a brief hiatus for their drummer's surgery. We ran through the seven EP tracks individually and found out their intended meaning and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Our journeys in writing and publishing books as nonprofit leaders.   00:00 - Introduction More about our guest today Dana Snyder is a dynamic speaker, author, host of the acclaimed global nonprofit podcast “Missions to Movements”, and the visionary creator of the Monthly Giving Mastermind. Her mission is to empower nonprofits to attract potential supporters through innovative digital marketing and to create sustainable giving models by establishing robust monthly giving programs, making philanthropy accessible to all.   Dana's impressive career includes serving as a Senior Digital Strategist at DKC in New York City, where she worked with prestigious clients such as The Honest Company, Sports Illustrated, and Delta Airlines. She also brought her digital expertise to American Idol as a Digital Producer. Additionally, Dana has held the roles of Director of Marketing and Development for Take Stock in Children of Sarasota County and Client Manager at Omnigon.   A sought-after keynote speaker and workshop facilitator, Dana has graced the stages of renowned conferences like NIO Summit, Cause Camp, Classy Collaborative, and the Nonprofit Storytelling Conference, sharing her insights and inspiring nonprofit professionals.   Dana holds a Bachelor's Degree in Advertising and Public Relations from the University of Central Florida. Now based in Atlanta, she enjoys spending her free time outdoors with her husband, baby girl and labradoodle, exploring new restaurants, and traveling. 02:10 - Building a sustainable giving model through recurring donations. Dana shares her expertise on the value of focusing on recurring donors over one-time unicorns, the benefits of this approach for nonprofits, and valuable insights on creating and marketing a successful monthly giving program.   13:22 - Writing a book, challenges and benefits of sharing personal stories. As published authors, Dana and I share unique insights on what it takes to produce a great book, our personal experience along the way, the hurdles we faced and the pros and cons of hybrid publishing, self-publishing, and traditional publishing. If you are looking into writing a book, start! Once you get to publishing, these insights will help you figure out what works for you.   20:58 - Self-publishing a book for nonprofit leaders - tips on marketing and partnerships. When I was on a book tour, I didn't want to spend exorbitantly, so my team and I came up with an innovative strategy to promote it. By partnering with existing partners, we utilized their resources to not only promote my book but also highlight my nonprofit's mission and programs. Check out this course  for support materials to learn how you can do the same!   28:58 - conclusion  We haven't discussed nonprofits and fundraising in a while, but we hope this conversation will equip you with the tools to achieve this year's fundraising goals. Keep these tools handy and feel free to connect with Dana and me. We would love to hear from you! Last week we talked about the OG arcade game, and this week we're talking about the hidden gem of the DK franchise: Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! For some reason, people seem to think I hate this game, and that couldn't be further from the truth. Do I think it's the third best game in the DKC trilogy? Yes. But I'd also put that trilogy up against just about any platforming trilogy ever made. I don't hate this game at all. I just hate Kiddy Kong. My guest this week is long-time supporter of the show, Carbon Fibre Zombie (real name, as far as I know). We spent over an hour talking about why this game struggles to shine in the shadows of its older brothers, and why it shouldn't because it's still awesome. We also sing the praises of the greatest Kong of all-time (Dixie) and dump a little on the worst Kong (Kiddy) And before we eat bananas, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I had to choose, would I only play my favourite games of all-time, or all the other games ever made?? What the hell is going on with our Subreddit??? And where do/did I stand on POGs?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! If everyone's wrong I'll keep reading until someone else yells out.”   Fact or crap?  Ambassador “Trivia Card”   Show Topic   Topic: our favorite Beat-em-ups! OctoRock (Adam) — Today at 9:46 AM My three favorite non-TMNT bmups are The Simpsons arcade game, Battletoads and River City Ransom. The Simpsons may actually beat out TMNT for me as far as the 4 player arcade experience goes. Just such a hilarious and well crafted game.  Battletoads speaks for itself, I'm not sure if it's a full blown bmup because of the platforming and speeder bike levels, but they teamed up with Double Dragon so that's gotta say something. River City Ransom is probably the only oddball here. A great semi-obscure NES game that thankfully a lot of people are now aware of thanks to River City Girls. One of my favorite NES titles and up there with Battletoads for me.   the Well-Red Mage — Today at 9:50 AM Shredders Revenge is AH MAH GAHHHHHHHH so good. A beat em up nobody gives enough love to is Fight N Rage. Seriously amazing.   ElPeeDee (Liam D) — Today at 10:09 AM mine has to be Batman Returns for SNES.  I loved the grabbing & throwing mechanics, breaking parts of the environment and the bat gadgets you could employ.  the sprite art was gorgeous and, while I hadn't even seen the movie at that point, I loved the characters   twodollarhero — Today at 10:25 AM For me, it's Scott Pilgrim. It's not the most mechanically dense beat-em-up, but I've come to realize that I prefer the River City Ransom approach of simpler gameplay, but a more fleshed out world with characters, shops, etc. Paul Robertson's artwork is gorgeous and the soundtrack by Anamanaguchi is among the greatest in video game history, full stop.   CrazyGreekDre — Today at 10:51 AM Turtles in time, Final fight both sNES and TMNT arcade game   ChrisHL94
