On this Headlines edition of The Imprint Weekly Podcast, we stick with Capitol Hill where a lot went down around the holidays. We discuss the arrest of a former foster youth and advocate arrested after a celebration of the Chafee Act, along with some child welfare legislation that made it into law (and one bill that did not). We also break down some long-sought data about what happens when youth are charged as adults in the United States, and the lastest federal report on child abuse and neglect. Thanks to live podcast attendee, new rescue dog Dracula, for being a good boy while we recorded!Reading RoomU.S. Rep. In this episode of Capitol Gains, hosts Matt Posner and James McIntyre explore the pivotal role Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) are playing in driving the clean energy transition. As CDFIs shift from their traditional focus on affordable housing and small business lending, they are stepping up to help deploy billions of dollars from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) under the Inflation Reduction Act. Joining the discussion is Oswaldo Acosta, CEO of City First Enterprises, who shares insights on how CDFIs are uniquely positioned to democratize access to the green economy. Acosta explains how CDFIs, with their deep community ties, are bridging the equity gap in clean energy finance, ensuring that historically underserved communities can benefit from the clean energy revolution. Throughout the episode, listeners will hear about the challenges and opportunities CDFIs face in scaling up for this new role, including developing innovative financial products, navigating federal regulations, and building partnerships with commercial banks and private investors. Capital flows in, and out, of our communities is the principal topic for this episode of Capitol Gains. Race and rurality are the two most influential vectors, all else being equal, when reviewing the many community reports Brett Theodos of the Urban Institute has written. Co-hosts James McIntyre and Matt Posner spend time with Theodos in this episode to dig into the data behind what drives a community to thrive and to better understand the reasons for why they don't. That data can be a powerful tool when considering how to grow a local economy or maintain a community's well-being in a fast changing landscape in America. Join us as we delve into better understanding the places we live through a capital flows data-centric perspective in the episode. A review of one of his Capital Flows report is here while Theodos has been focused on developers of late and you can view that work here. The views expressed are solely those of the hosts and do not necessarily reflect the view of their employers or other associated parities. Adam Linder of Bespoken Podcasting edited this podcast.
In this episode of Capitol Gains, hosts James McIntyre and Matt Posner chat with Homero Radway, senior analyst at Activest, about the role of fiscal justice in promoting racial equity and community investment. Drawing from his extensive financial background, Homero explains how data-driven strategies can hold financial issuers accountable and drive systemic change. The discussion covers how investing in fundamental needs like income, housing, and healthcare can enhance community resilience, the impact of structural racism on credit ratings, and successful community-centered initiatives, such as California's Baby Bonds and Flint's grassroots projects. Homero also introduces the Fire Fund, designed to improve capital access in marginalized communities, and shares his vision for a more equitable financial future. Our guest's own podcast, Raising Rebels, is a great listen. Adam Linder of Bespoken Podcasting, edited this podcast. The Delaware River defenses played a crucial role for the Americans in Philadelphia during the American War of Independence in 1777. When the British captured Philadelphia, the seat of the American Congress, in September of 1777 General Howe delivered a decisive blow to American morale. A month later, Howe tried to consolidate his gains with an attack on the American fortification on the Delaware River at Fort Mercer, now Red Bank, New Jersey, and across the river at Fort Mifflin. The Americans not only repulsed the attack by a combined British & Hessian force, but in the process destroyed 64-gun ship HMS Augusta, the largest ship the British lost during war. We talk about this with historian James McIntyre, analyst of the Delaware campaign, editor of the Seven Years War Association Journal, and biographer of Hessian officer Johann-Ewald.

For decades he's been studying one of the rarest and most publicity shy breeds of dog on the planet. Now American zoologist and retired biology teacher James 'Mac' McIntyre has made his breakthrough discovery. Through DNA tests conducted on animals trapped on a series of intrepid expeditions through Papua New Guinea and West Papua, he's managed to establish that the New Guinea Singing Dog- also known as the New Guinea Highland Wild Dog- still survives in the wild. Until this discovery the breed was only thought to survive in a captive (and highly inbred) population scattered around the globe. Mac's the founder of the New Guinea Highland Wild Dog Foundation and has another highly specialised research interests: intersex pigs in Vanuatu.

This month we're focusing our attention on the Every Child Deserves a Family Act (or ECDF) – a bill that was recently introduced in Congress that would eliminate state laws, policies, practices and procedures that exclude potential adoptive and foster parents because of their marital status, sexual orientation or gender identity. Passing ECDF would dramatically increase access to permanent, loving homes for foster care children. In Part 2 of this two-part series, we talk to guests Kristopher Sharp and James McIntyre, who both aged out of the foster care system without finding forever families or permanent placements. Kristopher and James talk with Senior Policy Counsel Shelbi Day about the challenges they faced growing up in foster care, and how they have continued to become powerful advocates for reform in the child welfare system. Everyone loves and admires a good poem…but what about the bad ones? After discussing his own experience writing terrible poetry, Jacke analyzes the 10 things that make a poem go wrong, assesses the curious role of Scotland and Michigan in developing bad poetry, and reviews some candidates for the worst poet in history, including: * Jennifer Aniston, whose astonishingly bad love poem to John Mayer graced (disgraced?) the pages of Star magazine; * James McIntyre, the Canadian poet known as “the Chaucer of Cheese”; * Julia A. Moore, the “Sweet Singer of Michigan,” whose poems were described as “worse than a Gatling gun” and “rare food for the lunatic,” but who insisted on giving public performances (to her husband’s mortification and Mark Twain’s delight); * Margaret Cavendish, the seventeenth-century aristocrat whose nature poems took her into the unintentionally comic realm of extreme bad taste (and near cannibalism); …and many others as well. It’s a celebration of bad poetry… the agony and the ecstasy… the cringeworthy and the triumphant… or, as William McGonagall, one of the best (worst?) of the bad poets might say: “This episode is very fine / Indeed I think it very fine.” Show Notes: We have a special episode coming up – listener feedback! On July 16, 2015 in Dawson Creek, BC, James McIntyre was shot dead by RCMP. The fifth shooting since April 1 in the region. We await the investigation report, which may take a year. There was a BC Hydro-Site C dam presentation that afternoon. Protestors were expected. Police responded as they do too frequently. This event brought forth Op Anon Down. For all the money being spent by Canada's spy and surveillance agencies to watch our "enemies" and to "protect" us, there seems to be some holes much closer to home for the powers that be. Mohammed Fahmy. Peter Munk. Barrick Gold. Nathan Jacobsen. Israel. ISIL. Secret Orders-In-Council of the Privy Council Office. The Prime Minister's Office. Expensive and partisan photo ops. Who is the common factor here? Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, current board member of Barrick Gold and the Friends of Isreal Initiative, John Baird. His surprise resignation from Cabinet, then politics altogether was an unexpected occurance. Op Anon Down can fill in some blanks for you, as they have proven to date. Let's discuss how far and deep the corruption goes in Harper's world. Expect Us.
