Diving Deep with James ReillyJames Reilly and I have been online friends for years and years. He’s the closest thing to a bona fide libertarian theorist I can think of who isn’t a PhD economist. He’s just a regular dude. Well, not regular per se. He teaches historical fencing (that’s fencing with big swords, not the little sticks little prissy fencers use). He’s a musician. His daughter is a published graphic novelist. He’s just super-interesting. And we have great conversations. Since we hadn’t had a great conversation since I started a podcast, I asked him to have one and let me record it. This is the result. Enjoy!I’ll warn you, we get super deep into libertarian theory wonkery. D-Fly and Dixie are back with a new episode of the Inside Lacrosse weekend preview. Conference races are peaking as we start looking ahead to May. This weekend features several matchups of Top 20 teams with conference and national implications. To start off, they offer a recap and analysis of the Thursday night battle of top ACC teams — No. 3 Duke’s 13-12 thrilling overtime win against No. 2 Notre Dame. The experience and star power of Michael Sowers and Nakeie Montgomery helped fuel the Blue Devils stunning 6-0 run to end the game. There is a lot to discuss in the News of the Week segment, including Chase Scanlan’s suspension from Syracuse, the passing of Bob Russell, and lots of postseason tournament news as May Madness begins to come into focus — including IL’s first look at Bracketology. In the conversation with Georgetown head coach Kevin Warne, they discuss COVID life on the Hilltop campus, the New York Jets, James Reilly’s emergence as one of the nation’s top face-off athletes, Jake Carraway and the potent Hoyas offense and the stingy defense anchored by Gibson Smith and Owen McElroy. Warne also answers questions about Georgetown assistant coaches, Hoya culture, his coaching mentors, the Big East in 2021 and Saturday’s game against Providence. Of course, they also close with the standard road trip question, and you have to hear Warne’s answer for his favorite road trip restaurant. The knowledge and passion are envious.
North Carolina put the big hurt on Syracuse in the Carrier Dome on Saturday beating the Orange 21-9. It's the first time in Syracuse's history they have lost by 7 or more goals 3 times at home. Terrible outing for Syracuse and things aren't looking good heading into their final games against Virginia and Notre Dame. For UNC, a huge bounce back win that they needed badly. Chris Gray paced UNC with 2 goals and 6 assists. Georgetown picked up their first regular season win over Denver in an 11-10 OT thriller. Declan McDermott scored the game winning goal in the OT period giving the Hoyas revenge for their earlier in the season loss to Denver. James Reilly factored heavily for Denver winning 16 of 24 face-offs against TD Ierlan and Alex Stathakis. Without that effort, Denver wins this game by a couple of goals. LIU picked up a big conference win over The Mount. Delaware used a Tye Kurtz goal in OT to beat Hofstra. Virginia handled their business against Utah, but Utah looked tougher than many expected in the loss. Towson gets back to a 500 record with a big win over UMass. We'll talk about these games and more in todays episode. A nice long one for you all. FORMER Health Minister James Reilly has warned that the introduction of mandatory reporting of medical mistakes could result in doctors covering up negligence. Senator Reilly said Department of Health officials advised him against introducing legislation which would mean doctors would be legally obliged to inform patients when they made mistakes. Dr Reilly said he is personally in favour of mandatory reporting but insisted doctors and nurses also need to be protected. “With mandatory disclosure you will still get people, I hate to have to say it, but the reality is you will get people hiding stuff purposely,” Mr Reilly told Independent.ie's Floating Voter podcast. He said there is a culture of fear in the health service which prevents doctors and nurses from speaking up when they make mistakes. “We need to support medics and nurses to do their job and accept that they're human and accept that errors occur,” he said. Mr Reilly's warning follows the devastating news that terminally ill cancer patient Emma Mhic Mahathuna was previously given incorrect smear test results. Senator Reilly his “thoughts and prayers” are with Ms Mhic Mahathuna and her family. However, he said he is not in favour of HSE director Tony O'Brien being sacked as it could result in legal challange. During the wide-ranging Floating Voter interview, Mr Reilly revealed he was disappointed that Taoiseach Leo Varadkar scrapped his plan to abolish the HSE when he succeed him as Minister for Health. He also discussed his proposal to extend the smoking ban and his opposition to giving the Irish diaspora a vote on the presidency.
