Renegade Supply Store: https://renegade-supply-shop.printify.me/products There are some stories in scripture especially when you get back towards Genesis that seem so far removed that it can be hard for us to extract any meaning from it. However, God never gives us anything that he doesn't want us to use. Today Michael Ness joins me again as we wrap up his series on Genesis. The main scriptural account we will be covering is about Nimrod and the Tower of Babel. During the course of our conversation, we talk about who Nimrod was and his possible connections to the character of Baal, as well as a period of time that overlaps with Abraham. We then move on to Tower of Babel and some very interesting parallels to our modern society and some warnings from the past that we should pay attention to. Now you can't talk about those things without also taking time as well to talk about The Brother of Jared, the Jaredites from the Book of Mormon and their concurrent history.
On the day after his Resurrection, the Savior appeared to those who knew him best during his mortal ministry—Mary Magdalene, Cleopas, ten of the apostles, and many other followers. While they saw him physically, they did not recognize him. Instead, they mistook him for a gardener, stranger, passing traveler, and even another prophet, as they misunderstood his role as the Redeemer of Israel or the promised Messiah. Rather than rebuking them, the Savior and ministering angels worked to correct their mistaken expectations by teaching them the true identity of Christ. In this episode, Professor Krystal V. L. Pierce describes how the Resurrected Savior opens the spiritual eyes and minds of his followers and disciples, in ancient and modern times, through visual, audible, and tangible signs and teachings. By learning to identify the spiritual nature of the Savior, we can prepare to see him physically in the Second Coming. The Book of Mormon (Moroni 1-6) with Dr. D. Todd Harrison The Gospel of Jesus Christ (Moroni 1-6) with Dr. D. Todd Harrison. In this enlightening video, we explore the profound insights of Moroni, who, after completing the records of the Nephites and Jaredites, felt compelled to document additional teachings for future generations. Despite believing his work was finished, Moroni foresaw the challenges of widespread apostasy and the ensuing confusion regarding priesthood ordinances and religious practices. Join us as we delve into Moroni's clarifications on essential doctrines such as the sacrament, baptism, and the gift of the Holy Ghost, emphasizing the importance of community in faith. Discover why these teachings remain relevant and vital for our spiritual journey today. Send us a textFrom Come Follow Me: "After finishing his father's record of the Nephites and abridging the record of the Jaredites, Moroni thought that his record-keeping work was done (see Moroni 1:1). What more was there to say about two nations that were utterly destroyed? But Moroni had seen our times (see Mormon 8:35), and he was inspired to “write a few more things, that perhaps they may be of worth … in some future day” (Moroni 1:4). He knew that widespread apostasy was coming, bringing with it confusion about priesthood ordinances and about religion in general. This may be why he gave clarifying details about the sacrament, baptism, conferring the gift of the Holy Ghost, and the blessings of gathering with fellow believers to “keep [each other] in the right way, … relying alone upon the merits of Christ, who was the author and the finisher of [our] faith” (Moroni 6:4). Precious insights like these give us reason to be thankful that the Lord preserved Moroni's life so he could “write a few more things” (Moroni 1:4)."Support the Show:www.patreon.com/SaintsintheSouth(The thoughts, ideas, and beliefs we express on this channel do not officially represent The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Book of Mormon (Ether 6-11) with Dr. D. Todd Harrison In this enlightening video, we delve into the profound prophecies of Ether to the Jaredites, as recorded in the Book of Ether. Ether's revelations were described as "great and marvelous," encompassing the entirety of human history and foreseeing significant events, including the days of Christ and the establishment of the New Jerusalem. Despite the clarity of his visions, the Jaredites rejected his messages, mirroring the skepticism often faced by modern-day prophets. This week we learn about the destruction or end of the jaredites. We learn about how Ether could not be captured by them and how he hid in a cave. We learn about Shiz and Coriantumur and their final battle. Principles the children will learn this week are:Faith in Jesus Christ can lead to miracles.Jesus Christ can turn my weakness into strength.Rejecting the Lord's prophets puts me in spiritual danger.Faith is believing in things I cannot see.Jesus Christ can help me become spiritually strong. The story about Parker and other audio comes from the Friend Magazine or the church's youth album. November 25–December 1: “By Faith All Things Are Fulfilled”Ether 12–15 Ether's prophecies to the Jaredites were “great and marvelous” (Ether 12:5). He “told them of all things, from the beginning of man” (Ether 13:2). He foresaw “the days of Christ” and the latter-day New Jerusalem (Ether 13:4). And he spoke of “hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God” (Ether 12:4). But the Jaredites rejected his words, for the same reason people often reject the prophecies of God's servants today—“because they [see] them not” (Ether 12:5). It takes faith to believe in promises or warnings about things we can't see, just as it took faith for Ether to prophesy of “great and marvelous things” to an unbelieving people. It took faith for Moroni to trust that the Lord could take his “weakness in writing” and turn it into strength (see Ether 12:23–27). It's this kind of faith that makes us “sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God” (Ether 12:4). And it's this kind of faith by which “all things are fulfilled” (Ether 12:3).

The account of Ether, a prophet of God, who emerges amidst a turbulent time in the Jaredite civilization. Despite being the rightful heir to the throne, Ether chooses the path of prophecy, warning his people under the reign of the usurper king, Coriantumur. Ether's relentless call for repentance and faith in God goes unheeded, leading to a catastrophic chain of events. The episode explores the powerful theme of faith, as Ether promises salvation to those who believe, even as the Jaredites spiral into a cycle of disbelief and war. Moroni provides insightful commentary on the nature of faith, emphasizing its power in things hoped for and not seen. As the Jaredites descend into chaos, civil war erupts, and Ether is forced into hiding. The narrative follows the relentless battles between Coriantumur and his rivals, including the fierce Shiz, leading to the near-total annihilation of the millions of Jaredite people. The episode culminates in the tragic yet powerful conclusion of Ether's record, highlighting the stark consequences of ignoring divine warnings. Through Ether's eyes, we witness the fulfillment of his prophecies and the devastating end of a once-great civilization.

In this episode Kerry and Lamar explore the Jaredite barge stones and possible parallels with the ark and the flood (see season 1, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PptNX0rL1cs). They also discuss the symbolic journey of the barges, and lessons to be learned from the cycle of righteousness that the Jaredites continually went through. They discuss the secret combinations of their day and lessons Moroni wants us to learn for our day. They also talk about the peace that can come from living righteously and believing even during times of terrible chaos and insanity. The Jaredites were destroyed. Remember what we read in Mosiah? - Hundreds of years after the Jaredites were destroyed, the Nephites discovered the ruins of their ancient civilization. Among these ruins was a mysterious record—plates of “pure gold” that were “filled with engravings,” and the Nephites “were desirous beyond measure” to read it. Today we have an abridgment of this record, and it's called the book of Ether. What we are reading in the scriptures this week! When the Nephites read it, “they were filled with sorrow” to learn of the tragic fall of the Jaredites. “Nevertheless it gave them much knowledge, in the which they did rejoice” You, too, may find sad moments in this book. But you can also rejoice in this gift of knowledge. As Moroni wrote, “it is wisdom in God that these things should be shown unto you … that evil may be done away, and that the time may come that Satan may have no power upon the hearts of the children of men” So let's remember: The Lord will guide us through our mortal journey. We are blessed when we follow God's prophet. We can trust Heavenly Father to comfort us when we are scared.Remembering what the Lord has done brings gratitude and peace.November 18–24: “That Evil May Be Done Away”Ether 6–11Book of Mormon Podcast for KidsWelcome to the Come Follow Me Kids Podcast! Now that the Jaredites have light to illuminate their vessels, they embark on their arduous 344-day voyage across the oceon to the promised land. They face fierce winds and monstrous waves that test their faith and resilience. Despite the treacherous conditions, the Jaredites remain steadfast, singing praises to the Lord for His continuous blessings. Upon reaching the promised land, the Jaredites quickly multiply and establish a thriving society. Yet, as time progresses, internal conflicts and the allure of power lead to political upheaval and the rise of secret combinations, threatening the very fabric of their civilization. Moroni gives latter-day readers a stern warning regarding secret combinations, for the Lord has promised that any nation that upholds these murdurous combinations will be destroyed.
The Lord solves the prayer of the Jaredites by having them trust Him as He uses the wind to drive them across the Sea. For 344 days the Lord steers the barges towards the promised land. Winds blew furiously, storms came, sometimes the Jaredites were even buried in the waters. The first thing the Jaredites did when they landed was to offer praises to the Lord for His guiding them.
The Book of Ether is the story of the rise and fall of a nation, inserted by Moroni. But there is more going on here. Jaredites are gentiles, or non-Israelites. The Book of Ether seems also to be a reflection on gentiles in the promised land, an audience the Book of Mormon speaks to. What do we learn from the powerful and tragic history of the Jaredites? What lessons does Moroni emphasize? In this episode, BYU professors Jared Ludlow, David Calabro, Josh Matson, and Joseph Spencer explore these chapters in an inspiring scripture conversation.

Just as the difficult wind and waves took the Jaredites where they needed to be, the trials that we pass through can work together for our good, if we will let them.

In this episode Kerry and Sister Michelle Craig talk about learning to ask for blessings and miracles from God. They delve into how that interacts with personal revelation. They also talk about the archetypal journey the Jaredites were on and how we can learn from it They explore the practice God gave them on that journey, and the miracles that came as a result. They also talk about the fears, growth and faith of the brother of Jared. They tie that faith into the ability to move forward with God's power, tying that into Sister Craig's call and her response to it. They then see God's redemptive power in the story. We are grateful for our generous sponsors, and for Launchpad Consulting Studios for producing the podcast, and to Rich Nicholls who composed and plays the music for the podcast.
Moroni abridges the writings of Ether and the history of the Jaredites, drawn from the 24 gold plates discovered by the people of King Limhi. Moroni, by commandment from God, seals up the sacred writings and revelations received by the brother of Jared. This sealed portion of the gold plates will not be revealed until some future time when members of His church have repented and become clean before Him. Beginning at the tower of Babel, God leads Jared, his brother and their friends and families to America, the Promissed Land. Eight barges are built to carry these chosen people across the ocean to the promissed land of America. The brother of Jared, filled with incredible faith, sees the finger of the Lord and is then priviledged to see the Spirit body of Jesus Christ. In Chapter 5, Moroni addresses himself to the future translator of the plates, Joseph Smith.
An in-depth study of Ether 1-5, covering the journey of the Jaredites from the Tower of Babel to the Promised Land, including the brother of Jared's vision of the Lord. The Jaredites! Come Follow Me 2024 Book of Mormon
October 28-November 3 Every time I read the Book of Mormon and get to these chapters, I always hope that the Nephites will repent and that their civilization and people will be spared—and then it happens every time! They are destroyed. And then another entire civilization, the Jaredites, are destroyed for the same reasons. We can't change their outcomes, but how about ours? Is there a message in here for us, right now, in our day?

Wayne May's Conference and Website - https://www.ldsarchaeology.com/events/ Wayne May's research concludes that the Adena people are the Jaredites. Archaeologists now say that they are the mound builders, and the Hopewell used and added to the mounds as they moved north from Florida. Wayne says that the Hopewell, which lived from 550 BC to 400 AD, are the Nephites. He points to numerous stone tablets found in the mounds with Paleo-Hebrew written on them, as well as the descriptions of the fortifications matching from the Book of Mormon.
