Goodr has a simple but powerful mission: feed more and waste less. The sustainable waste management firm's founder and CEO, Jasmine Crowe-Houston, believes that hunger in America is not a scarcity issue– it's a problem of logistics. Which is actually good news, because that's an issue technology can solve! By leveraging detailed inventory management, predictive analytics and advanced supply chain logistics, Goodr is helping businesses reduce waste, cut carbon emissions and harness tax credits, all while supporting sustainable hunger solutions across the nation. Jasmine is an award-winning business leader, TED speaker, and author, who began her entrepreneurship journey spotlighting black celebrity philanthropy, nonprofits, and other charitable causes on BlackCelebrityGiving.com. After moving to Atlanta in 2013, she began hosting free pop up restaurants every Sunday out of her own pocket, offering soul food meals to people experiencing homelessness. When a video of Jasmine at one of these events went viral in 2016, she was inspired to learn more about food donations and soon discovered the shocking scale of America's food waste problem. Realizing that a truly sustainable hunger solution couldn't rely on donations alone, Jasmine launched Goodr in 2017 to offer businesses a win-win way to save money and build food security in their communities, and she has since grown her local startup into a B Corp Certified company serving a national network. Hear Jasmine talk about turning her Sunday passion into a thriving company, why Goodr takes a holistic approach to waste management, and how technology can help create a hunger-free future.Episode Highlights00:00 Jasmine Crowe-Houston on sustainable solutions to hunger00:52 Conor Gaughan introduces Jasmine and Goodr04:15 Early life, the importance of storytelling, and giving a Ted Talk08:48 Entrepreneurship, blackcelebritygiving.com, and sports for good 15:45 Feeding the hungry in Atlanta, going viral, and launching Goodr 20:39 The logistics of hunger, win-win solutions to food waste, and growth30:47 Covid, pivoting to hunger relief, and scaling a national network38:09 Impact report, the Goodr Foundation, and grocery store program43:40 Finding inspiration 45:10 Where to learn more and end creditsIf you liked this episode, listen next to Jamila Norman of Patchwork City Farms on Urban Farming, Food Advocacy, and Good FoodMore on Goodr and Jasmine Crowe-Houston:goodr.colinkedin.com/company/goodrco linkedin.com/in/jasminecrowe instagram.com/goodrcoConnect with Conor Gaughan on linkedin.com/in/ckgone and threads.net/@ckgoneHave questions, or a great idea for a potential guest? Millions of Americans don't have enough to eat — a startling fact considering 40% of the food produced in the U.S. gets thrown away. Every year, around one third of the food produced for human consumption gets wasted – with most of it going to landfill and emitting greenhouse gasses.Yet according to the UN World Food Programme, 957 million people worldwide do not have enough to eat on a regular basis. We need to close the hunger gap. Join host Christiana Musk, Chairwoman at Unreasonable Group, as she sits down with two entrepreneurs who are a part of the Unreasonable Impact community —Jasmine Crowe, CEO of Goodr, and Naomi MacKenzie, Co-CEO of KITRO. They discuss exciting new innovations that can feed more and waste less. Paid and presented by Barclays and Unreasonable Group. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Every year we throw away nearly 40% of our nation's food supply – perfectly edible – leaving it to rot in landfills and release harmful greenhouse gasses. Meanwhile, more than 10% of U.S. households are food insecure. Why do we throw this food away instead of getting it to people in need? Hunger isn't a scarcity problem, it's a logistical one. That's according to Jasmine Crowe-Houston, the founder and CEO of Goodr, an Atlanta-based startup that's using technology to fight both battles: food waste and food insecurity. Jasmine joins the podcast to explain how Goodr has built a mobile app that uses delivery partners (like Uber Eats, Roadie, and DoorDash) to redistribute millions of surplus meals from businesses to nonprofits that feed people from Atlanta to Dallas to Denver. She also shares her fundraising experience as a Black female founder and gives advice to social entrepreneurs on how to raise money, pitch a solid business case, scale, and, ultimately, become “a company that can do well by doing good.”
Five years ago, Jasmine Crowe was feeding homeless people in Atlanta from a pop-up kitchen in her home. She's come a long way in a few short years, transforming her passion for helping others into a national organization. Crowe, founder and CEO of Goodr, a company that leverages technology and logistics to reduce waste and eliminate hunger, recently closed an $8 million Series A funding round. But that's not all. Besides her work as an award-winning social entrepreneur, Crowe has done TED talks and has authored a children's book called “Everybody Eats."Goodr, which is now in 26 markets across the U.S., has served 30 million meals and diverted five million pounds of food from landfills since its founding in 2017.Crowe recently joined City National Bank CEO Kelly Coffey for a conversation about building a business that addresses socio-economic issues, raising capital and increasing awareness around food insecurity and food waste. This podcast is for general information and education only and is provided as a courtesy to the clients and friends of City National Bank. As prescription drug costs skyrocket in the US, thousands of people are forced to forgo lifesaving medications -- all while manufacturers and health care facilities systematically destroy perfectly good, surplus pills. Kiah Williams shares how SIRUM -- a nonprofit that delivers unused medications to families who need them most -- plans to drive down prescription prices by recycling almost a billion dollars' worth of medications in the next five years. This ambitious plan is a part of the Audacious Project, TED's initiative to inspire and fund global change. Stay tuned after the talk to hear our host Sherrel speak with Jasmine Crowe, the CEO of Goodr: an organization leveraging tech to reduce food waste.
