Nothing makes me happier than a conversation that goes deep unexpectedly... and Cameron Ungar delivered! Trash and Stash is a cleanout and downsizing service based in North Carolina. They are the first B-Corp Certified Junk Removal business in the US, and Cameron takes that certification very seriously. He talks about being thrifty - not like cheap, but about putting value on the effort made. He talks about simplifying our lives and homes being an act of rebellion (love that word!), and says that small, consistent actions have big results.Cameron offers an efficiency bonus for his employees, because just filling a dumpster is not preferred; he prefers repurposing or reusing, to keep things in circulation. In fact, his whole office is thrifted - he said he spent maybe $1000 for everything in the office. He also trains his employees in patience and encourages them to listen to their clients, knowing that some people will struggle with letting go of things. And his company gives back. Started during Covid, this still young company is giving a percentage of all profits to the International Cancer Foundation. They also have a space where they store some of the stuff they've taken from homes/offices to resale or donate to people who need it.A phrase Cameron said has stuck with me is " Junk is a verb, not a noun." Just think on that for a moment. I love the heart behind Trash and Stash so much - a desperately needed service, and offered with a kindness that is often lacking in that field.Find Trash and Stash here: https://www.trashandstash.com/They're on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/trashandstash And Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/yourlocaltrashandstash/Send me a message!Support the showLike this episode? Why did Jews become devoted Democrats, and why did the Democrats turn on them?p> For the past 100 years, Jews have famously been at the forefront of every liberal cause in America. They were overrepresented in the Civil Rights Movement, in the Labor movement, the pro-choice movement, and the LGBT movement. If you ask them why they are Democrats, many will say it's because they are Jews. And yet, as Batya Ungar-Sargon explains in The Jews and the Left, with its slogans about the destruction of Israel and elevation of antisemitic leaders, the Left has become a no-go zone for Jews unless they are willing to denounce their own people. Now the left has cheers when Zohran Mamdani says there shouldn't be a Jewish state on this planet, and Bernie Sanders says Israel's goal in Gaza is "extermination."To explore how we got here. Ungar-Sargon takes readers through the long history of Jews in American political life, from George Washington's praise for the Jews to the forgotten Jewish Founding Father, from the Triangle Shirtwaist fire to the lynching of Leo Frank, from the Civil Rights movement to the shock many Americans felt on October 7th when Hamas wasn't universally condemned. Many Jews will insist that antisemitic violence has been more common on the right than on the left. The reality is far more complicated and far more troubling. This book analyzes a uniquely left-wing form of antisemitic hate. The Jews and the Left is a moving historical account of one of the most important alliances in American politics-and its breakdown.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

Then, NewsNation host and author Batya Ungar-Sargon joins the show to discuss her new book, The Jews and the Left. Ungar-Sargon maps the historical trajectory of American Jewish political alignment from early 20th-century working-class labor movements to the civil rights era, arguing that a post-structuralist "oppressor vs. oppressed" binary has completely colonized the modern academy and trickled down into mainstream neoliberal journalism. Kathy Barnette sits in for Dawn Stensland on The Dawn Stensland Show to dissect the breaking foreign policy crisis surrounding America's Memorandum of Understanding with Iran. We tackle the reality that the agreement is falling apart, asking what exactly the United States gained from the deal. Iranian-born analyst Ida Tehran joins the program to share her lived experience, arguing that while conservative MAGA voters are rightfully exhausted by endless nation-building, the current regime remains an active threat to American security. She urges voters to look past the global propaganda and keep trust in the strategy to manage the ultimate collapse from within. The conversation intensifies as Batya Ungar Sargon, host of Batya at News Nation, joins us for an authentic look at the deep flaws within the agreement. We note that the current situation looks like total capitulation, explaining how Iran successfully shifted the conflict from a military fight they couldn't win to an economic war designed to inflict high gas prices on American workers. We analyze the fascinating strategy at play within the administration, as leaders balance the promise of a roaring domestic economy with the absolute imperative to prevent a nuclear Iran. We wrap up the hour by pivoting to the critical fights taking place right here at home. The crew reacts to the choice facing regular citizens, noting that radical politicians in major cities like New York and Los Angeles pose a more immediate threat to the future of our children than adversaries overseas. Finally, we share some massive local news as the F3 Forum prepares to return this October, posing a foundational question for our community: can our local schools replicate the literacy turnaround achieved in the Deep South and deliver a true miracle for our students?

“There has not been a bigger government scandal during my lifetime,” says Senator Ron Johnson, “and yet even now that we have documented proof of corruption, most of the legacy media refuses to report on it.” In the release of his new Senate report, Sen. Johnson says he found evidence that federal health officials knew about COVID-19 vaccine safety signals in 2021 but “purposely” hid them. Sen. Johnson, Chairman of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, alleges that in March 2021, FDA officials were briefed that their VAERS analysis algorithm would mask vaccine adverse event signals. Twenty-six days later, an updated algorithm showed 25 safety signals, including sudden cardiac death, pulmonary infarction, and Bell's palsy. Johnson says officials ordered the analyst to “cease and desist” and told the public adverse events were “rare and mild.” Brianne Dressen, who recently met with Senator Johnson in DC, joins to discuss the severe symptoms she developed after being in one of the first US AstraZeneca trials in 2020. She is calling for a new investigation into the abandonment of the COVID-19 vaccine injured. Batya Ungar-Sargon, Newsweek opinion editor and host of “Batya!” on NewsNation, asks if going to war with Iran was worth it. Psychotherapist Jonathan Alpert, author of “Therapy Nation”, argues America has grown over-reliant on therapy culture as mental health ratings hit record lows. Brianne Dressen is Co-founder of React19. In 2020, Utah mom and former teacher Brianne joined a clinical trial of AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine — one of the first in the USA — and says she developed severe side effects. Is the Democratic Party collapsing under the weight of anti-Semitism, open-border policies, identity politics, and the abandonment of working-class voters? Or is something even bigger happening beneath the surface? Batya Ungar-Sargon joins Jillian Michaels for one of the most explosive conversations of the year. From the growing divide inside MAGA to the civil war tearing apart the Left, Batya exposes the political realignment nobody in the mainstream media wants to talk about. Why are Black voters abandoning Democrats? Why are former liberals sounding the alarm? And why are Americans increasingly rejecting the political establishment on both sides? Plus: Trump's biggest test yet. Will the Iran crisis end in peace, regime change, or a wider war? What happens if Trump's strategy succeeds—and what happens if it fails? Batya also breaks down the shocking alliance forming between the woke right and the woke left, the Israel-Gaza debate consuming American politics, the controversies surrounding Sam Harris and Megyn Kelly, and the argument at the center of her explosive new book. And looking ahead to 2026 and beyond: Could the midterms become a political bloodbath? Is the future of the Republican Party JD Vance or Marco Rubio? Is the Democratic Party headed toward Gavin Newsom, AOC, or something even more radical? The answers may surprise you. Batya Ungar-Sargon joins Ami to expose how anti-Semitism switched sides, why the right cleaned house, and what 300 years of forgotten American Jewish history tells us about where Jews really stand.Batya Ungar-Sargon is the author of The Jews and the Left. As she was finishing her manuscript about left-wing anti-Semitism, right-wing podcasters started becoming massive anti-Semites. She thought she'd be a laughing stock. Then the right actually cleaned house. Trump, Ben Shapiro, senators, cabinet members all said Tucker Carlson is not MAGA anymore. Tucker's new audience is Muslims. Candace Owens is bragging about it.But her deeper argument is about America itself. From the first Jew on American soil in 1654 who sued Peter Stuyvesant for anti-Semitism and won, to the founding fathers who saw Jews as the living embodiment of God-given rights, this country has always been different. Three hundred years of American Jewish history have been erased. The soil itself rejects Jew hate. They also cover the ADL's failure after October 7th, why anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism for the vast majority of Jews, the HIAS immigration conspiracy theory debunked, why Britain and Canada are lost but America is not, and Batya's prescription for the Jewish community: stop whining about anti-Semitism and keep Shabbos.Support the show: patreon.com/AmisHouse

They cover losing media opportunities for refusing to go along with the anti-Israel consensus, how when non-Jews stand up for Jews there's such a relief to it, and why Batya thinks America still loves its Jews.Buy the book here: #walkinswelcome #Antisemitism #AmericanJews #BridgetPhetasy Topics covered: antisemitism on the left, American Jewish history, October 7th, political homelessness, Democrats and Israel, anti-Zionism vs antisemitism, Jewish identity, Tucker Carlson, Trump and Israel, October 8th Jews

"I'm not suggesting that repression has lost its place as a fundamental defense mechanism. Repression remains central, coherent, and fundamental to the founding of the unconscious. It is what makes certain contents inaccessible to consciousness, and what we access as psychoanalysts through dreams, play, symptoms, and associations. That remains true. What I was observing, and I'm still observing more now, is something different. When I see children and adolescents that are more capable to work on a task while doing homework, and at the same time listening to music, and at the same time texting with somebody - I don't think that they are real. This is my point. I don't think they are real. This multitasking way of living is part of life today… The clinical question for us becomes this - when does this multiplicity become a symptom? When does it interfere with the capacity for depth, for intimacy, for a sustained emotional contact?  I think that this is what we need to see, to study and to differentiate in our consulting room."    Episode Description: We consider how changes in our culture may impact the individual's intrapsychic space and from that the nature of the psychoanalytic encounter. Virginia comments on the diminishing of the paternal symbolizing function and with that a change in the 'rites of passage' that adolescents traverse - now the rituals are "created by the young people themselves" as contrasted with those passed down by their elders. This, she feels, has resulted in "intimacy becoming spectacle" and for many, the analytic session is where "the construction of intimacy may begin."  She shares clinical material with us from 40 years ago and contrasts the nature of her interventions with her contemporary treatments. Now, "I appreciate the mystery in the process and that we create meaning with the patient." Virginia closes with seeing analytic treatment as "an invitation to a process of thinking that, to remain alive, must be rethought."   Our Guests: Virginia Ungar M.D., training analyst at the Buenos Aires Psychoanalytic Association (APdeBA). She specializes in child and adolescent analysis, was the Chair of the IPA's Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysis Committee (COCAP) and of the IPA Committee for Integrated Training. She was awarded a Konex of Platinum in 2016. She is the former President of the International Psychoanalytic Association (2017-2021).    Recommended Readings:  Etchegoyen,  H. This episode features Mark Ungar, a professor of criminal justice and political science at Brooklyn College and the City University of New York. Ungar has written extensively on the rule of law, policing, and human rights in Latin America, and more recently has focused his research on environmental organized crime across the Amazon basin. Ungar notes that environmental organized crime—illegal gold mining, logging, cattle ranching, and land grabbing—has become the third largest criminal enterprise globally and is now deeply intertwined with narcotrafficking operations. Rather than existing as separate phenomena, these activities share infrastructure, routes, and personnel. Criminal networks carrying out environmental organized crime are deeply intertwined with state actors and the legal economy. The nexus involves governors, military officials, environmental ministry personnel, and municipal authorities at multiple levels. Even when good laws exist, implementation remains weak because investigations rarely lead to prosecutions of major figures. The episode turns to Venezuela's Orinoco Mining Arc, a zone covering roughly 12 percent of national territory that then-president Nicolás Maduro established in 2016. Ungar describes it as a "criminal state project" in which the Maduro government effectively legalized destructive extraction in a geologically unique and biodiverse area that includes nature reserves and indigenous territories. The zone is controlled by a confluence of Venezuelan military officials, Colombian armed groups including the ELN and FARC dissidents, Brazilian garimpeiros, and local criminal organizations called sindicatos and pranes. Violence is extreme, and environmental and health consequences are devastating, with ninety percent of pregnant women and schoolchildren showing elevated mercury levels in their blood. Ungar explains how the gold and minerals extracted from this area enter legitimate international markets. Between 2016 and 2021, the Mining Arc generated approximately $2.2 billion in gold revenue, but an estimated 86 percent was mined illegally, and roughly 70 percent was smuggled through shell companies and opaque supply chains. The zone also contains big deposits of coltan, iron, bauxite, and other sought-after minerals. Ungar shares concern about the Trump administration's current approach to Venezuela. While the administration has focused on oil access, counternarcotics, migration, and excluding Chinese influence, there appears to be no priority given to addressing environmental organized crime. Ungar suggests that Washington's willingness to work with the current Venezuelan government—the Maduro regime minus Maduro himself—likely means business as usual for state-sponsored extraction intertwined with organized crime. Consumer countries must stop looking the other way about the origins of products that end up in legitimate commerce.

Welcome back to our series, "On Becoming: The Art and Craft of Personal Storytelling." In this series, we take a close look at personal essays written by real students, talking about why we love them, what makes them work, and how they came to be. On Becoming speaks not just to the craft of writing, but to what I believe the personal statement is at its best: a record of becoming, the often messy, hopefully meaningful process of finding yourself… through the process of storytelling. In this episode, we slow things down and focus on a single essay, which the author calls "Much Ado About Nothing." Together, we take this essay apart, looking at the storytelling choices on the page, the deeper ideas underneath them, and how the essay captures a moment in the student's becoming.  Dr. Greg Ungar is a professor at the University of Denver. Greg grew up in California and spent six years working on the assembly line at General Motors before finding his way to college, where reading (and thinking) changed the direction of his life. Greg went on to study philosophy and theatre arts at UC Berkeley, and later earned advanced degrees across a wide range of disciplines, including sociology, criminal justice, acting, and theatre and drama. He's someone who has spent a lifetime thinking deeply about identity, work, class, performance, and what it means to make meaning out of lived experience.  We hope you enjoy.    Play-by-Play: 3:23 – Why do Ethan and Greg love reading stories and poetry together?  5:34 – Do college essays need a title?  6:47 – Greg reads the essay, "Much Ado About Nothing"  12:03 – What does Ethan love about this essay?  13:25 – What did Greg notice while reading?  19:23 – How does the author use structure to keep the reader engaged?  25:02 – How can humor be used in college essays?  30:58 – How does the author show different roles and identities throughout?  40:24 – Closing thoughts   Resources: "Much Ado About Nothing" Essay College Essay Essentials  College Essay Guy's Personal Statement Resources College Essay Guy's College Application Hub

Episode 337 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features a pair of Edmonton Oilers prospects with great stories to share: the debut of Connor Ungar and the return of Matt Tomkins.  In the feature interview appropriately presented by NHL Sense Arena, we start with Ungar sharing lessons from one of the most unique seasons in recent memory. He has played for three different teams in the ECHL before getting called up to the American Hockey League and somehow posting an 11-1-4 record with a save percentage north of .944 for all four teams, including 6-0-0 with a .955 right now in Bakersfield. And it's all come as an undrafted free agent who spent a season at Brock University (not unlike Logan Thompson) after playing four seasons in the CHL.Speaking of unconventional paths, we also catch up with Tomkins, who went from two seasons in Sweden to his NHL debut with the Tampa Bay Lightning before signing with his hometown Oilers this summer, and continues to show he's capable of playing at the highest level all while openly sharing lessons learned along the way. That includes offseason time with osteopath James Wendland, whose popular training tips have been featured regularly at InGoal Magazine. In the Parent Segment, presented by Stop it Goaltending U the App, we talk about the risk of always comparing your child's path in this position to what others are doing, especially when it comes time to make Spring Hockey choices. We also review this week's Pro Reads, presented by Vizual Edge, which features Jet Greaves of the Columbus Blue Jackets with some great depth advice on even-man rush chances, and how you should adjust if it breaks down in tight. And in our weekly gear segment we go to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports for a look at the new Vaughn Ion pads and gloves already being worn by Calvin Pickard of the Oilers in the NHL and available now in store and online.
