Bedrick shares his 20+ year journey in education reform, tracing his advocacy for parental rights and religious liberty back to a post-9/11 awakening and Milton Friedman's theories. The conversation explores vouchers, education savings accounts (ESAs), the history and distortion of school choice post-Brown v. Board, and how pandemic-era frustrations accelerated parental engagement. Bedrick also addresses the tension between religious freedom and government schooling, pushing back on claims that school choice fuels segregation or undermines civic unity. If you're wondering how school choice intersects with parental rights, government responsibility, First Amendment protections, or the values debate in public schools, this episode is a must-listen.Subscribe, share, and join the conversation as we examine what true educational freedom looks like—and who gets to decide.

In this special Holocaust Remembrance Day episode of The Learning Curve, co-hosts U-Arkansas Prof. Albert Cheng and the Heritage Foundation's Jason Bedrick interview Alexandra Popoff, a former Moscow journalist and acclaimed biographer. Ms. Popoff delves into the life and legacy of Vasily Grossman, a 20th-century Jewish Soviet writer and journalist. She explores Grossman's transition from chemical engineering to writing, influenced by his Jewish heritage and the historical context of the time. Popoff discusses Grossman's role as a war correspondent for the Red Army newspaper, covering key WWII battles and providing early reports on Nazi death camps, including Treblinka. She highlights his 1944 piece, "The Hell of Treblinka," which was used as evidence in the Nuremberg Trials. Popoff also examines Grossman's major literary works, including Stalingrad and Life and Fate, which were censored and "arrested" by the Soviet government for their anti-totalitarian content. She reflects on Grossman's historic contributions to Holocaust literature and the lessons his writings offer on the political nature of Nazism and Soviet communism. In closing, she reads a passage from her book, Vasily Grossman and the Soviet Century.

Tune in to hear about how the SAT and ACT are making efforts to “evolve” and “adapt” with the times, leading to watered-down assessments that are more focused on convenience rather than achievement. Jason Bedrick, a friend of CLT, published an article outlining how classical education offers hope for civic renewal in America. Plus, we get to hear the inspiring story of a family that dropped everything and uprooted themselves to get their kids a classical education.
There's a war being waged for America's elementary, middle, and high school students. But the leftist agenda-driven campaign that began behind the closed doors of teachers unions and government-run schools is now out in the open and has led to a “parent revolution,” says Corey DeAngelis. The "teachers unions overplayed their hand and awakened a sleeping giant, which happens to be parents who want more of a say in their kids' education," says DeAngelis, author of “The Parent Revolution: Rescuing Your Kids from the Radicals Ruining Our Schools.” DeAngelis—sometimes referred to as the "school choice evangelist"—dedicated his new book to "Randi Weingarten [president of the American Federation of Teachers] and the teachers unions for inadvertently doing more to advance school choice and homeschooling than anyone could have ever imagined."School choice programs, which give parents the opportunity to use their tax dollars to send their children to a private school or even to homeschool them, are restoring parents' power over their children's education. Already, states across America are embracing school choice. "We now have 11 states with universal school choice," DeAngelis says, adding the programs are a fulfillment of the late Nobel Prize-winning economist "Milton Friedman's vision for all families" to have choice over their children's education.DeAngelis, a senior fellow at the American Federation for Children and a visiting fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution, and Jason Bedrick, a research fellow in the Center for Education Policy at The Heritage Foundation, join “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss why school choice programs are a rising tide that will lift all of America's education system. In 2022, Arizona passed one of the most comprehensive school-choice programs in the nation. But later that year, the state elected Katie Hobbs a governor who is backed by the teachers' unions, and she has targeted that program for elimination, even as other states like Iowa and Texas consider similar expansions to school choice programs. Joining my colleague Hayden Ludwig and I to discuss Arizona's proposed retreat as other states advance school choice is Jason Bedrick, research fellow in the Center for Education Policy at The Heritage Foundation. Our speaker will be Jason Bedrick who is a Research Fellow at the Center for Education Policy at the Heritage Foundation. Jason is also the author of the book Religious Liberty and Education. The New York Times had a recent 5-page story about the inadequacies of NYC Yeshiva Schools. This two-year investigation concluded that the students in the most religious schools had inadequate English skills because their classes are taught in Hebrew, Yiddish, and Aramaic. The New York Times concluded that these Yeshivas do not serve the public interest because the kids graduate with few job prospects and little earnings power which is unfair and unjust.New York State provides funding for the schools and therefore, they argue that the Yeshivas should be coerced into a state mandated curriculum.Jason plans to rebut the New York Times accusations, and he will explain the animosity particularly by Jewish secular progressive leaders with the most religious Jewish Hasidic sects.Jason believes that parents should decide how their children are educated and that we should be tolerant of those that choose a religious life. Recently, the New York Times ran an article entitled “In Hasidic Enclaves, Failing Private Schools Flush With Public Money”, attacking the Yeshivas (religious schools) of New York's Hasidic Jews. But what's the real story? This week, we talk with Jason Bedrick, a former member of the New Hampshire state legislature, and now a Research Fellow at the Heritage Foundation. Jason explains the tradition of Yeshivas; some teach secular subjects in addition to religious texts, while some schools focus solely on religious instruction. And he tells us the other side of this story - the perspective of Hasidic Jews in New York who want to give their children an education in their religion and history.
