Send us a Text Message. It's not often that I cross paths with someone whose journey to parenthood has been met with similar heartbreak. When I read Johnny Sirpilla's book, “Life is Hard, but I'll be OK” I was blown away by the things that he and his BADASS wife, Susan, went through. Man, what a reminder of just how much pain we endure as humans, and yet some people still choose to find the joy wedged somewhere beneath the suffering.Johnny and his wife Susan lost their triplets, Nicholas, Mary, and Peter when Susan was 6-months pregnant. That was just the beginning of their unfathomable path to parenthood. Most people know that my husband and I suffered years of infertility and lost three little girls along the way; Angel, Hope & Jade. Angel (22 weeks) & Hope (16 weeks) were stillborn and Jade was delivered when I was just 6-months into my pregnancy. She fought hard to be with us for 16-days, and her time here was excruciatingly beautiful. The anniversary of her passing was May 24th, which made the timing of my interview with Johnny particularly raw, but necessary, for me.It's important to note that this episode isn't reserved for people who have dealt with infertility and child loss. Johnny's story is one of resilience, faith, and overcoming life's greatest obstacles, and that's a story I believe we can ALL get behind.

Our mindset is a powerful tool, allowing us to find solutions when things get tough. Retired CEO, Johnny Sirpilla, shares how you can reframe your mindset during difficult times in your life and at work.Reframing MindsetWhen things get tough, our mindset is a powerful tool that can help us find solutions. Retired CEO Johnny Sirpilla shares how you can reframe your mindset during difficult times in your life and at work.He suggests that instead of thinking "I have to," we reframe it to "I get to." For example, "I get to go to the gym" or "I get to do this challenging project at work." This small shift in perspective can make a big difference in how we approach difficult tasks. When we think "I have to," it puts us in a negative frame of mind and makes us feel like we're being forced to do something. On the other hand, "I get to" implies that we're choosing to do something, even if it's challenging. This positive framing can help us approach difficult tasks with a sense of enthusiasm and possibility. So next time you're faced with a difficult task, try reframing your mindset from "I have to" to "I get to." This small shift can make a big difference in how you approach the task at hand.Your Character Carries Over from Work-to-Home...and home-to-work, if we don't take the time to draw a line between the two. It's important to find a healthy balance that works for you.One way to do this is to set aside some time each day to transition from work mode to home mode. For example, you might take a few minutes to put away your work materials, take a break from electronics, or do something relaxing before you start your evening routine. This transition time can help you leave work worries behind and focus on spending quality time with your family and loved ones. It can also help you recharge for the next day so you can show up at work refreshed and ready to tackle whatever comes your way.If you're finding it difficult to balance work and home life, try setting aside some time each day to transition from one to the other. This small change can make a big difference in your ability to find a healthy balance.I don't believe that we can genuinely switch gears and be awful people at work, somebody who verbally and emotionally beats people up, then returns to their home where they're nurturing or welcoming to kids and spouse alike--these are all part of one fabric: our character! In This Episode(0:00) We have the same heart and the same character in our work place that we bring into our home place.(2:27) What it's like to get into a rut after being at the peak of your life.(14:29) What are some practical guidelines to help you stay on the same page as a couple?(19:31) The importance of work-life balance.(31:23) You're treating a whole person, not just an illness or a malady.Beyond the Rut is a proud member of the Lima Charlie Network empowering others to reach new heights in leadership, self-development, and communication. Episode 226: Life is Hard, But I'll Be Okay - Interview Johnny Sirpilla Welcome to the LYS Podcast. Today's story is of Johnny Sirpilla, his wife Susan, their struggle with infertility, the death of their triplets, and the power of hope, coming through pain, and learning to live with gratitude.   Johnny Sirpilla, founder of Encourage, LLC, and author of Life is Hard, But I'll Be OK, he is a professional speaker to businesses, communities and universities, about managing thoughts, leading yourself to productive choices and framing each challenge in your life as an opportunity for self-reflection and growth.   Right up our alley. I want to start with a couple reviews of Johnny Sirpilla's book - Life is Hard but I'll Be Ok.   Dr. Nido Qubein, President of High Point University, says… “He has written a book to help anyone deal head-on with any struggle they face so they can become more resilient, eventually heal, and find beauty in the hardship, the silver lining in a dark cloud.”   Srini Pillay, M.D., Harvard-trained psychiatrist, said, “Johnny Sirpilla takes us on a journey through adversity and reminds us that anyone who is falling apart can put themselves together again at a higher level. With a heartwarming style of writing, he reminds us to find the blessings in our struggles and to explore our shadow selves so that we can live in a more whole and self-forgiving way. Touched by magic himself, Sirpilla will remind you that your own magic is more within your reach than you think. A profoundly touching page turner, this book is a must read.”   Tune in to hear my conversation with Johnny as he shares his story and what he's learned. To contact Johnny: johnny@encourage33.com encourage33.com LinkedIn - Johnny-Sirpilla   In a talk by Elder Larry S. Kacher, a Seventy in the LDS Church, called Ladder of Faith, Elder Kacher illustrates what we've seen in the Sirpilla's story. (The Sirpilla family are members of the Catholic church.)   He asks the question, “How will life's challenges affect our faith in Jesus Christ? And what effect will our faith have on the joy and peace we experience in this life?”   Johnny's story, and their faith, is a prime example of this - choosing faith has allowed them to find peace.   Elder Kacher goes on, “Accepting God's will in place of our own is key to finding joy no matter the circumstances….our faith in him, can and will, guide us through the complexities of life. Indeed we find that there is simplicity on the other side of life's complexities as we remain steadfast in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope.” This story Johnny has shared today, is one of resilience and the power of managing thoughts to seek gratitude when life is hard - I hope you have found a light in his experience that will shine on your own path.  Remember that though life can be hard, you can be okay. Please share this episode with someone you think would benefit from hearing it. We'll see you in two weeks for the next episode of the Love Your Story podcast.

Every now and then I uncork a story that simply inspires the hell out of me—and this is one of those stories. As Founder and CEO of Encourage LLC, Johnny Sirpilla specializes in leadership development. Every year he addresses organizations with his message of the importance of managing and reframing thoughts, modeling healthy thinking, and searching for positive meaning. Developing meaningful professional and personal relationships that genuinely reflect the personal brand of the individual and organization create synergies that drive growth for all stakeholders. I didn't know it going into my interview with Johnny, but he and I have a lot in common. We are both Italian (well, I'm only half, but that's the half I identify with), we both have written books, and we both have fathered triplets. He and his wife, however, lost Nicholas, Mary, and Peter not long after they were born. More tragedies would follow Johnny and his wife as they attempted to start their family and you might assume that so much loss would lead to a dark place and maybe even the dissolution of their marriage, but the opposite was true. Yes, Johnny and his wife grieved hard together, but they were also able to reframe their experiences into something positive. The loss of their babies led to a ripple effect of positivity in the lives they have touched. Johnny decided to document his experiences and beliefs in a memoir entitled, Life is Hard but I'll Be OK: The Power of Hope Emerging through Pain and Learning to Live with Gratitude and joined me on Uncorking a Story to talk about it. During our conversation we touch on: How he and his wife dealt with so much loss and the importance of grieving together. How he was able to hang onto his faith and not hate God in the face of so much tragedy. How he and his family celebrate and honor Nicholas, Mary, and Peter every year. How an empty nest can lead to a rediscovery of one's relationship with their partner. Quote from Johnny: A young man asked me, what do you wish you knew when you were sitting in our seats that would prepare you for the life you're going to live? The answer came to me quickly. I said, I wish I knew that life will be hard, but I'll be okay. And that's where the title of my book came from. As a young guy I think you set goals, you reach them, you set the next goal, and life just keeps going in that great trajectory. And you almost don't prepare yourself for those unexplained situations that happen. A child passing, an illness, adoption nightmares. So you know, I wish I knew that life will be hard, but I'll be okay. Buy Life is Hard but I'll Be Ok. In this episode, renowned entrepreneur Johnny Sirpilla explains the inspiration behind his best-selling book, Life is Hard but I'll Be OK, including how he and his wife overcame the loss three of their children.  Born into a wonderful family, Johnny considers himself blessed to have had an excellent start in life. But nothing could have prepared him for the greatest loss of his life – the death of his first three children on the day they were born.  Life can be tragic and present you with unimaginable scenarios, but you have the power to move past them. Pain is inevitable, but if we make it purposeful and learn from it, it can help not only ourselves but also the people in our lives.    Johnny believes the key to his extraordinary business and life success is that he finds purpose in what he does. Work can be fun if we realize its purpose and how that purpose impacts things that are beyond ourselves. Johnny believes that our work and personal lives are intrinsically linked and that who we are at work is merely a reflection of who we really are as an individual.   Johnny also details his unique approach to leadership and the handling conflicts in the workplace, which is based on facing reality, honesty, and respect.   To learn more about Johnny and his story of resilience and hope, get a copy of his book on Amazon.
