In this compelling episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik Chakraborty sits down with Kimber Foster, author of A Year of Thorns: What to Expect When Divorcing a Narcissist. Kimber shares her inspiring journey of surviving and escaping a toxic 27-year marriage, offering raw and unfiltered insights into reclaiming identity, joy, and freedom. Together, they explore the emotional and psychological challenges of leaving a toxic relationship, the impact on mental health, and the courageous steps required to move forward. Whether you're navigating a toxic relationship, recovering from its aftermath, or simply seeking stories of resilience, this episode provides valuable lessons and hope for building a healthier, more fulfilling future.   About the Guest Kimber is an author, advocate, and survivor whose story embodies resilience and healing. After enduring a 27-year toxic marriage and reclaiming her life, Kimber authored A Year of Thorns: What to Expect When Divorcing a Narcissist, a powerful guide for those escaping the grip of toxic relationships. With a mission to inspire and empower others, Kimber openly shares her journey to freedom, focusing on overcoming fear, rebuilding self-worth, and fostering personal growth. Reach: https://www.facebook.com/Datema.Wende    Key Takeaways Recognizing Toxicity: Kimber likens her experience to the “boiling frog” analogy, highlighting how gradual exposure to toxicity can desensitize and trap individuals in unhealthy relationships. Why Leaving Feels Harder Than Staying: Fear of the unknown, fear of change, and fear of being alone are significant barriers to leaving a toxic relationship. Kimber emphasizes that staying is a choice to remain in the cycle of pain and suffering. Impact on Health: Living in a constant state of fear and stress takes a toll on physical and emotional health, creating a "fight or flight" cycle that stifles growth and well-being. The Courage to Break Free: Kimber advocates for pushing beyond the comfort zone, embracing courage, and stepping into the unknown to unlock personal freedom and potential. The Role of Resilience: Struggles and challenges can become a source of strength and growth. Kimber reminds listeners that adversity shapes and prepares us for a more empowered future. Empowering Others: Kimber's journey serves as a beacon of hope for those trapped in toxic relationships, showing that healing, joy, and a new beginning are possible with courage and determination. This episode is a must-listen for anyone seeking inspiration and tools to reclaim their life and find freedom.   Want to be a guest on Healthy Mind, Healthy Life? Grief and loss play an incredible role in the mental health of us all as we age. We inevitably experience the loss of loved ones, friends, and aspects of our own health and vitality, often not recognizing ourselves from who we used to be. These losses can trigger feelings of profound sadness, loneliness, and even depression. For many of us, grief can become a constant companion, as we grapple with the passing of peers and loved ones. The effect of multiple losses over time takes a toll on our mental well-being, leading to feelings of isolation, purposelessness, and existential angst. It's important for older adults to acknowledge and process their grief in healthy ways, whether through therapy, support groups, or creative outlets. By honoring their losses and finding meaningful ways to remember and cherish those they've lost, we can live through that grief and find comfort and peace as we age. By Shoshana Grinstein Height—150cm 5ft—Weight at start 88 kilos *size 46. Current weight around 70 kilos *size 36!! Growing up in Montreal, Canada- very active, healthy childhood. Age 11/12- first encounter with weight on the scale, dietitian. Instead of becoming more confident, it made me more self-conscious. I was hard on myself and judgemental. Periods of over-eating Periods of under-eating Un-healthy relationship with my body and food Moved to Israel, gained weight- lost weight- got married- pregnancies. Heavier and heavier between each pregnancy- about 20 kilos overweight Depression- finally leading to real healing Therapy: learning to accept myself, to be kind to myself. Pregnancy #4- healing but corona !! stuck at home. Crazy. Weight Gain and inactivity. While pregnant, parenting coach. So during covid, began listening to podcasts about Parenting. Became vegan and listened to Podcasts about healthy eating, which led to podcasts about mental health. I began to treat myself better, talk to me more kindly, try to motivate me positively, and just get happier. As much as I was learning to love myself the way I was, I couldn't ignore how big I had gotten; a few things triggered my fasting start. My son had said to me: Mom, I've never seen you run! A picture from the summer. And ads constantly popping up on my instagram about it! I finally said- what the hell, let's try. I have nothing to lose… except the weight. I challenged myself; it was 9:00 pm- I could not eat until recess at 10:00. I did it! Stopped eating at 8 pm and went the next day to 10:00… then noon… then I wouldn't eat until I got home from work. OMAD…. Pilates in July (6 months in), and here we are! Within a week, I realized I needed to know more- started listening to Gin Stephens, and bought and read her book. I looked for more interesting podcasts and found The Fasting Highway- bought and read The Fasting Highway! It is so motivating and such an exciting community to be a part of. The initial weight came off fast! I was down 10 kilos in no time. I felt such a new sense of freedom- so in control. I learned to listen to my body and stopped fearing that I might miss out or feel hungry…. “Vigilance without obsession!” Measured but stopped weighing- keep getting rid of clothes- old and new! (Dropped my false sense of confidence and swapped it out for a new one.) Having been raised in a home where no one saw me for who I was/am- no one motivated me or believed in me and now… I'm in a place in my life where I feel such control; I feel worthy, and I feel that I can do and succeed at whatever I want. I want more for myself and my family, and I know now that I can accomplish anything. To get to this point in my life after years of struggling is so liberating The Fasting Highway Our Patreon Supporters Community Please consider joining the Fasting Highway Patreon community. If you need some inspiration in your life this is the episode for you. We have on the show podcast, author and one of the fittest men in the world Rich Roll. At age 40, and after years of struggling with drugs, alcohol, and unhealthy living, Rich dedicated his diet to plants and his body to purposeful action. Just two years later, he began clocking top finishes at Ultraman World Championships and leading a community of others looking to transform their lives.A graduate of Stanford University and Cornell Law School, Rich is a 55-year old, accomplished vegan ultra-endurance athlete and former entertainment attorney turned full-time wellness & plant-based nutrition advocate, popular public speaker, husband, father of 4 and inspiration to people worldwide as a transformative example of courageous and healthy living. In 2012, Rich became a #1 bestselling author with the publication of his inspirational memoir Finding Ultra: Rejecting Middle Age, Becoming One of the World's Fittest Men, and Discovering Myself.Taking up where the book leaves off, in 2013 Rich launched the wildly popular Rich Roll Podcast, which persistently sits atop the iTunes top-10 lists. In 2014, Rich & his wife Julie Piatt published the bestselling cookbook and lifestyle primer, The Plantpower Way: Whole Food Plant-Based Recipes And Guidance For The Whole Family. In May 2010, Rich and his ultra-colleague Jason Lester accomplished an unprecedented feat of staggering endurance many said was not possible. Something they call the EPIC5 CHALLENGE– an odyssey that entailed completing 5 ironman-distance triathlons on 5 islands of Hawaii in under a week. Commencing on Kauai, they travelled to Oahu, Molokai and Maui before finishing on the Big Island, following the course of the Ironman World Championships on the Kona coast. In addition, Rich has been a top finisher at the 2008 and 2009 Ultraman World Championships in Hawaii. Considered by many to be one of world's most daunting and grueling endurance races on the planet, Ultraman is a 3-day / 320 mile double-ironman distance triathlon that circumnavigates the entire Big Island. Limited to only 35 carefully selected invitation-only participants from all over the world, Day 1 involves a 6.2 mile ocean swim immediately followed by a 90 mile cross-country cycling race. Day 2 is a 170 mile cycling race. And the event culminates on Day 3 with a 52 mile double marathon run on the searing hot lava fields of the Kona coast. But what makes Rich truly remarkable is that less than two years prior to his first Ultraman, he didn't even own a bike, let alone race one.Although he competed as a butterfly swimmer at Stanford University in the late 80's, Rich's career was cut short by struggles with drugs and alcohol — an addiction that led him astray for the next decade, alienating friends, colleagues and family, landing him in jails, institutions and ultimately rehab at age 31. Although sober, Rich soon found himself 50 pounds overweight; the furthest thing from fit. Everything came to head on the eve of his 40th birthday. Defeated by a mere flight of stairs that left him buckled over in pain, he foresaw the almost certain heart attack looming in his near future."It was time for a major life change." – RICH ROLLThe day immediately following his staircase epiphany, Rich overhauled his diet, became a dedicated vegan, put on his running shoes and jumped back into the pool. It wasn't long before ambition took hold and his quest to participate in Ultraman slowly began. Two years later, 50 pounds lighter, and fueled by nothing but plants, he surprised the triathlon & ultra communities by not only becoming the first vegan to complete the 320-mile über-endurance event, but by finishing in the top 10 males (3rd fastest American) with the 2nd fastest swim split — all despite having never previously completed even a half-ironman distance triathlon. In 2009, Rich returned to Ultraman twice the athlete he was the year prior. Despite a stacked field, he took home first day honors with a blistering 2:21 swim victory (6th fastest of all time) and a third fastest bike leg to win the day with a 10 minute lead on the field. On Day 2 Rich suffered a serious bike crash but managed to salvage the day in 6th place overall. With an injured knee and shoulder Rich nonetheless went on to a 7:51 Day 3 double-marathon to hold onto 6th place overall.Rich's plant-fueled feats of boundary-pushing athleticism have been featured on CNN and major publications including The New York Times, Los Angeles Times Sunday Magazine, The Huffington Post, Stanford Magazine, Men's Health Living, VegNews, Triathlete, Outside, 3/GO Magazine and Men's Fitness Magazine, which named Rich as one of the “25 Fittest Men in the World.”I can't think of a better guest for our 100th episode of Next Level Soul. Enjoy my conversation with Rich Roll. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/4858435/advertisement

His work for National Geographic Magazine began with adventure features, exploring the most remote corners of the globe from Antarctica to the Russian Arctic. In 2011, Cory became the first and only American to climb one of the world's 8000 m peaks in winter, summiting Gasherbrum II in the Karakoram Himalaya of Pakistan. His documentation of the climb and aftermath of the experience was made into the award-winning documentary, COLD and appeared on the cover of the 125th-anniversary issue of National Geographic Magazine. Much of Cory's life has been defined by his journey with Mental Health to which he speaks openly and honestly, laying bare the hidden struggles that so many face in silence and solitude. As a high school dropout at 14, his life has followed an irregular arch that has lent itself well to exploring the balance of high achievement and struggles with mental health. His advocacy work has garnered millions of views online through his social media platforms as well as through his speaking career. I'm a huge fan of his work and really admire his courage and resilience with all the obstacles he's faced in his life. We chat about finding people in his personal life and supporting him on his journey and evolvement, what identity means to him, writing a book about his life and the hardest chapters to write, and the importance of community (finding a group of men at his gym), as well as internal and external goals he has. We also end the episode with some rapid-fires such as his least favorite photograph that he's taken and the 3 most influential people in life right now (the answer may surprise you).

An unconventional approach to weight loss that helps people lose weight for life by reconnecting them to 5 ancient habits that modern societies have forgotten.  There are tons of weight loss experts out there, but when it comes to sustainable weight loss, you will be hard-pressed to find one that knows more about the subject and how to achieve it than I do.  There are some fundamental flaws with the way most weight loss programs approach weight loss which make it almost impossible to keep the weight off after losing it, which is why around 95% of people who lose weight can't keep it off. What I do is coach people on how to lose weight for life without spending all their free time in the gym (who has time for the gym these days) or constantly trying to figure out calories or measuring your food.  More Information Learn more about how to develop the five healthy habits at https://www.liveyourwaythin.com/ Facebook LinkedIn Thanks for Tuning In! Dr. Cathy Tran (@drcathyyy) is a chiropractor and a wonderful person. She treats patients at Eikonic Health + Wellness in Vaughan, Ontario. As we spoke about in the podcast, Dr. Cathy LOVES being a chiro, but she also loves to be herself and enjoy all that life has to offer; spreading smiles along the way! This conversation is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. I certainly was smiling throughout the entire conversation. Cathy has an incredible outlook on life, and this translates directly into how she cares for her patients. She cares deeply about the whole individual; not just their immediate physical pain. This is something that cannot be faked, and can only be genuine. We spoke a lot about how connected our mental and physical health is. They both feed each other, and we must take steps to work on all aspects of this. Whether it's going for a walk, going shopping, or making a stranger smile, there are wonderful things we can do to help ourselves and each other. Cathy says she loves her life and that it's perfect. This is not to say that she doesn't have her troubles, but more so to highlight how she perceives everything around her. Up to and including the privilege of being a chiropractor where people trust her with their care. This whole sentiment was sprinkled throughout the conversation. We are all multifaceted human beings. We are not our jobs, or our pain, or any one thing. And the best part is, there's only one of YOU. Dr. Cathy says (via Dr Seuss) that nobody is “you-er than you”! We should all strive to be the you-est you that you can be! Follow Dr. Cathy Tran on IG (where she shares tons of amazing food) and contact Eikonic Health + Wellness to book an appointment for any chiropractic care. I would greatly appreciate any comments, questions or feedback. My Story My name is Candee and I have been battling my weight for what seems like forever. My dieting history started at the age of 10 when my parents put me on my first diet at the recommendation of my pediatrician. I was switched to skim milk and limited to one helping of dinner and no dessert. It was then that I learned how to sneak food. At 12 I asked to go away to “fat camp”. I found one in California and my parents agreed and I went to San Diego for 6 weeks. I lost approximately 25 pounds through severe calorie restriction and exercise. I think it took me about 12 weeks to gain it back and then some because I didn't really learn how to follow the program and my parents didn't do it for me. I have done every diet under the sun. I always started a diet when I was around 40 pounds above my weight. I've lost 40 pounds numerous times. In 1999 I joined WW after a friend lost around 50 pounds. I was successful and lost 42 pounds and was even approached about coming on staff. I joined the WW staff in 2000 and worked for them for over 16 years. During my tenure I was able to maintain my weight except for my three pregnancies in which I gained over 40 pounds and successfully lost the weight each time. I left WW due to poor management. When I stopped working for them I gained around 30 pounds and decided to do keto. Keto wasn't a great fit for me because I love to eat all kinds of foods and it was very limiting. I heard about IF during that time, but didn't really know too much about. In 2018 I was desperate. My weight was up again and I was creeping up to the 40 pound mark. I was working in health care and a mutual friend/patient came in and looked amazing. We talked about IF and she told me about DDD. I purchased the book before she was out of the parking lot and read it throughout the day. I started fasting that day. With IF I have been able to lose around 30 pounds. I am not sure exactly how much I have lost at this point because I have broken up with my scale. My focus right now is health. I turned 50 this year and for me it is about a feeling. If my clothes fit, I know I am on the right track. I pretty much follow OMAD except for once a week I do mealless monday ( currently). I run, practice yoga and walk. Most days my fasting protocol is 20/4 or 22/2. I am learning what foods make me feel good and which don't. My goal is to continue to be active and be a great example for my boys. I want to keep up with them. I have started my own FB group to help and encourage others. News. My book The Fasting Highway is available on Amazon in both paperback and kindle.
