Perera Elsewhere, Fever Ray, Paula Temple and Maral discuss how the space you're in affects the music you write, the importance of mistakes or ‘curating errors', and the significance of technology, particularly when music production software reaches new countries. Perera Elsewhere was born in London and grew up between the UK, Singapore, and Malaysia. She played guitar and trumpet as a child and was really influenced by pirate radio. Now based in Berlin, she's part of the band Jahcoozi, and DJs as Mother Perera. She's played shows at iconic venues including Berghain, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Hamburg Philharmonic. She performs in extraordinary stage outfits, and her music has been described as "doom-folk". Swedish singer-songwriter and record producer Karin Dreijer, aka Fever Ray, was one half of the electronic music duo The Knife, and released their debut solo album in 2009. They love to use masks, body paint and intricate costumes when they perform live. The UK's Paula Temple is one of Europe's most in-demand techno artists. She's a self-proclaimed “noisician” known for making awe-inducing techno, and co-runs the label Noise Manifesto. She's a regular on the festival circuit, having recently performed at Time Warp, DGTL, Awakenings, and Extrema Outdoor. Maral is an Iranian-American DJ and producer. She takes snippets of Iranian folk music and poetry, and repurposes them as glitchy sound experiments to bring the Persian classical repertoire to the dancefloor, something she describes as "jamming with my ancestors". Her musical creations are driven by artful experimentalism, and last year she released her third album, Ground Groove.
In the fourth episode of season nine, or the 52nd episode since the show began, Kevin welcomes a literal and figurative "friend of the brand." His guest is Lauren Neumann, who is a longtime friend of Kevin's "Reasonable Day" co-host Alyssa Savino, and the two chat about how wedding first dance songs should not be over seven minutes in length, and about embarrassing yourself in front of the lead singer of one of your favorite childhood bands. Co-mixed with @Aasthma. There are few people who have had as much of an impact on contemporary electronic music as Karin Dreijer, whether with their brother Olof in The Knife or with their solo project, Fever Ray. From massive indie-pop hits to paradigm-shifting dance records, Dreijer's work takes a psychedelic, plasticine approach to synth pop, with their trademark pitch-shifted vocals and psuedo-tropical beats. As Fever Ray, they've tapped into the global club music underground, working with producers like Nídia, Paula Temple, Deena Abdelwahed, Vessel and, on new album Radical Romantics—one of our favourite albums of the year so far at RA, hands down—even Nine Inch Nails. Another important collaborator in Dreijer's world is Peder Mannerfelt, the Swedish techno producer who has been working with Fever Ray since the first album back in 2009. He co-mixed this RA Podcast as part of Aasthma, his duo with Pär Grindvik. The mix is a survey of Dreijer's favourite dance music, some of which informs their one-of-a-kind sound world as Fever Ray. There's plenty of music from the groundbreaking East African scene centered around Nyege Nyege Tapes, plus DJ Haram, Equinkoxx, Tayhana and more, and even two exclusive, upcoming Fever Ray remixes from Avalon Emerson and Nifra. It's a rare look into the musical tastes of a true visionary. Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/883
--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/musicacronica/message

Mixtapes .

The Classic Film: Bride of Chucky (1998) "Chucky, the doll possessed by a serial killer, discovers the perfect mate to kill and revive into the body of another doll” (IMDb.com). Believe it or not: we really enjoyed the Tiffany/Chucky dynamic and the silly/serious juxtaposition, but you can see where the franchise is headed and, based on the last scene, we're not looking forward to it. The Modern Film: My Valentine (2020) "A pop singer's songs and artistic identity have been stolen by her ex-boyfriend/manager and shamelessly pasted onto his new girlfriend/protégé. Locked together in a small concert venue after hours, the three of them confront the emotional abuses of the past...until things turn violent” (IMDb.com). My New Romance- Shinedoe ft. Karin Dreijer 2.- The Jacket (Karin Knife Remix)- First Floor Power 3.- Seven- Fever Ray 4.- This Must Be It- Röyksopp ft. Karin Dreijer 5.- A Part Of Us- Fever Ray ENJOY!
Biography: Her real name, Chinedum, is Nigerian for ‘God is leading me’. In the world of Shinedoe, god is music. As if she’s completing a trilogy, the album is a sleek representation of her musical history, a rich tapestry that has spanned releases on the likes of BPitch, Cocoon and Get Physical as well as her own imprint, Intacto. A tour de force of highly organic dance music bringing together the energy of club material alongside more thoughtful and introverted songs, ‘Illogical Directions’ is exactly the album you’d want Shinedoe to make. Starting with the sultry, dub beats of ‘Release Yourself‘ and the mechanical house infusion of ‘Essence’, to the deep jazzy house of ‘Alto Parisio’ and the dark and twisted ‘Discourse My New Romance’ featuring The Knife’s Karin Dreijer, for Shinedoe, the third time’s a charm. An exploration of sensations in sound, Shinedoe deftly delivers anthemic tracks such as the single ‘Circle Of Life’ featuring the infectious vocals of Miss Bunty as well as exploring the darker and more gritty world of ‘God’s Love’ and ‘Get Dirty’. “When I produce music, it comes from my heart and soul”, she explains. “As a result, these new tracks all have their own feeling and identity, you can’t label them to one particular sound. It was a challenge bringing them together, but it works!” This release marks a decade of her infamous Intacto imprint, the label she founded with 2000 and One that has launched and pushed the career of many notorious Dutch artists such as Lauhaus and Anton Pieete. A full world tour for the label will follow in September 2014.
