Subconscious EncodingConsider that as humans we have two minds: the conscious and the subconscious. The conscious mind is the judge of the information that comes through the senses, dealing with one item at a time. The subconscious mind stores memories and does not judge information at all. It simply stores it. When a person is asked a question they respond, whether the re- sponse is verbalised or not. Getting to Home BaseWithin any particular native language, each person has their own home base of language, according to the ideas put forth by the two founding scientists of Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP).The home bases are built on the five senses of visual (seeing), auditory (hear- ing), kinaesthetic (feeling/action/touch), olfactory (smelling), and gustatory (tasting). Everyone processes and learns new information differently. There are three main cognitive learning styles. VAK stands for Visual, Auditory and Kinaesthetic and these learning styles helps people to understand what type of learner they are. It helps us to understand what works for us best and can help us to maximise the time we spend Listen In The post SLP 178: Self Love Quicky – VAK Learning Styles appeared first on The Wellness Couch.

Explaining complex physical phenomena to students in simple and relatable ways can be challenging. This is particularly true for abstract concepts or phenomena that can only be observed using advanced equipment. Dr AJ Richards, an Assistant Professor of Physics at the College of New Jersey, has been exploring the potential of Kinaesthetic Learning Activities – multi-sensory teaching strategies involving hands-on experiences – to convey abstract and microscopic physics more effectively in the classroom.

Lyn is joined today by Nathan Segal, an expert in long-lasting relationships and a natural connector of people, to discuss the ways in which we can activate strength and confidence by rejecting fear and doubt, especially in this current COVID 19 world that seems to have most of us focused on fear and negativity. KEY TAKEAWAYS The world and the media today seem to be operating under the same thought principles as cult thinking, in that beliefs are insidiously embedded upon our minds until they present themselves as our reality, and we acccept them as fact. Anchoring is a powerful psychological tool that can relieve anxiety and re-enforce positivity, grounding you when you need it most. It is a technique based upon NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) effectively changing the way we think, speak and behave. Developing mental and emotional awareness not only allows us to check ourselves when we need to change our negative thinking and behaviours. It also allows us to recognise when others are attempting to use this power against us. We all primarily learn in different ways. Usually through VAK either Visual (seeing), Auditory (hearing) or Kinaesthetic (feeling / touching) We can recognise people's primary learning styles by the different types of VAK language they use. Our subconscious silently translates these styles into our own communication category. BEST MOMENTS ‘I imagine myself being firmly rooted to the earth’ ’This is industrial strength mind control’ ‘I want to show you how to generate confidence on demand’ ‘You will have a technique that keeps you grounded, confident, safe and secure within yourself' VALUABLE RESOURCES Hearts Entwined Podcast Apple Podcasts (iTunes) Spotify Stitcher ABOUT THE GUEST Nathan Segal has worked in the fields of computer graphics, photography and writing for over 30 years. This is the third show in a 3 part mini-series exploring language. In the last 2 shows, we’ve examined the VAKOG Model of language – visual, auditory, Kinaesthetic, olfactory and gustatory – along with pacing and leading language structures. These language tools can be a part of your language toolbox helping you to ensure that all your students achieve through effective tutoring and coaching. Todays’ episode explores questioning and how to generate productive responses, listen in now to find out more! KEY TAKEAWAYS Greeting clients The language you use when you greet your clients sets a powerful frame around you. Your job is to infuse your students with energy, interest and curiosity. You can be; Outrageous Flamboyant Fabulous Dazzling Scintillating You must never be just fine or just alright and this must be conveyed through the language you use. Greet your students in a way that promotes positive anticipation of what will come in the lesson. Asking effective and powerful questions Only ask questions that you know the answers to. If you are observing something in a student from their psychology, facial expression or body language then you can ask questions that allow them to acknowledge what you have already seen. Go for questions that have yes answers. compliance is part of the learning process. If you ask questions that promote ‘no’ answers then it is more likely that a situation with friction will occur. You can soften questions so that it does not feel like an interrogation. This is done by asking questions such as ‘I’m curious about...’ ‘That’s fascinating – how do you do that?’ ‘How might we change that to make it a little better?’ ‘Can we run a little thought experiment?’ Tag questions can be used to hang on the end of a statement. These are questions such as; Isn’t it? Wouldn’t you? Can you not? Can’t you? 3 magic questions ‘What’s good about this?’ This points your student in the right direction to find a positive outcome. They might need to hunt around to find the positive but in looking for the positive any negative is lessened. ‘And before that?’ This is about working with the student to work backwards from their ultimate goal. It sets a path in the students mind about how to work towards their big goal. It can help them to see there is a structured approach. It makes clear it is a step by step process that has to be moved through successfully to reach the goal. ‘And what else?’ Asking what else after a student has a moment of insight or solves a problem encourages them to seek out more ideas. If you are capable of having one great idea you can have others. The word is….but Students are always waiting for you to use the but word If you use the word ‘but’ following a positive statement everything before the word is lost. It is a careless syntax. The word but is an absolute liability, remove it from your vocabulary BEST MOMENTS ‘You can feel good for no good reason what so ever’ ‘This got me a reputation for being very an interesting if a slightly odd person’ ‘They saw me as someone off the wall and outside the system ‘ ‘A long pause can compel the student to complete the question’ 'If you are capable of having one great idea, the chances are there’s another one snuggled in behind it’ ‘When you are asking for a response ask about feelings. It is less invasive than other forms of questioning ‘ ‘You’re framing yourself and the lesson in an energetic and positive way’ VALUABLE RESOURCES https://www.amazon.co.uk/Weird-Things-Guitarists-Do-Misconceptions-ebook/dp/B01M2YRARG/ref=asap_bc?ie=UTF8 https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-tutor-podcast/id1369191372?mt=2 www.Neilcowmeadow.com ABOUT THE HOST Neil Cowmeadow is a maverick peripatetic guitar teacher from Telford with over 19 years’ experience in the business of helping people. I remember clearly being in school and being taught about learning styles. The teacher went through the model taught to her, which boiled down to auditory, visual or kinaesthetic. Auditory being people who learn best by hearing something, Visual best by seeing or reading something, Kinaesthetic best by doing something. It made sense to me that I must be a Visual learner, given that I was the designated class cartoonist, at least when there was a Rugrats character to draw. Later, I learned that this was just one of many (supposedly there are around 70) models to describe our preferred learning style. It's also possible - in fact very likely- you have a mixture of styles. Some may be best used in certain circumstances. For example, learning how to put an Ikea wardrobe together requires different processing than learning a language. Plus, you can develop or change your preferences over time: in fact 1 did this through listening to podcasts. Now, I process audio - with or without accompanying images - way better than I did at school. I still think it's useful to explore learning styles, and not just the ones you think you have a preference over. It's useful not just to help you learn stuff more effectively, but to communicate better with others, When you know what style someone else prefers, you can accommodate them. It's something I try to take into account in my online courses, as well as when I'm coaching someone or consulting with a client. If I pickup that they're a visual/spatial learner, I scribble down images to represent my ideas, or use visual analogies to give from to my sometimes vague and floaty concepts. Or if they're kinaesthetic I try to slow my speech a bit. This is another weird factoid: apparently kinaesthetic types speak slower. There are 7 styles that I like to take into account now, which gives a slightly more detailed range of preferences than I was taught at school. Visual - with pictures Auditory - prefer using sound Verbal - with speech & writing Kinaesthetic - doing with your body, touch Mathematic - using logic, numbers, systems Social - in groups Solitary - alone I dig deeper into these learning styles in today's episode, and what knowing your learning style might mean for you.

NLP In Action - Mike Sweet - 10 Minute Coach - Rapid Practical NLP
This is Episode 009 of the NLP In Action podcast and this session is all about representational systems, sometimes called rep systems in the world of NLP. Rep systems are yet another corner stone of NLP and without them, you will literally be in the dark. A representational system, can be defined as particular senses we use to describe our experience of the world. There are 3 main and 5 overall representational systems for the purpose of this explanation. These are Visual, Auditory, Kinaesthetic, Olfactory and Gustatory Aka V.A.K.O.G in the vast majority of cases only the first 3 are used. With all practice, do what's necessary and then add in later once you have mastered the most relevant and useful steps. Start to notice these representational systems in a persons choice of words. NLP calls these "predicates". This is meant to imply something relating to the representational systems used. People will have a dominant or sensory preference that you'll be able to pick up in their language. The reason you'd want to know this is that it makes connecting with people far easier. Communicating in a person's sensory preference is a great rapport builder and I'm sure you've heard people say, "we were just on the same wavelength". There are a number of reasons for this but sensory preference matching is a great step in the right direction. Talking "their way" makes commInication flow as they do not need to swap over rep systems internally in an effort to make more sense of the communication.

In this episode you will learn tips and trick to help you move forward while change habits and behaviours. You will also experience a journey using hypnosis to uncover and discover if you are more visual, auditory or kinaesthetic.

There is increasing recognition that the reductionist mindset that is currently dominating society, rooted in unlimited economic growth unperceptive to its social and environmental impact, cannot resolve the converging environmental, social and economic crises we now face. The primary aim of this unit is to encourage the shift away from reductionist and human centred thinking towards a holistic and ecological worldview. Thus, the study unit promotes the shift in perception towards socio-economic systems as dependent upon the finite resources and finite wastes sinks of planet Earth. This study unit is just one of many that can be found on LearningSpace, part of OpenLearn, a collection of open educational resources from The Open University.
