Are parents complicit in poisoning their kids if they don't take them off processed food? 5th Generational Rancher, AJ Richards, is here to explain why not knowing where your meat comes from or who raised it is a matter of life or death. America's dependency on foreign imports, the financial burden on our AG workers, and the corruption from those in control are setting us up for a full collapse of our food system. AJ discusses how to know if something is really organic, what Big Food doesn't tell you about “pasture-raised” labeling, the dangers of vegetable black markets, and presents solutions to these major issues. Do you ever wonder where your steak came from? Did you know that there are only four major companies that control the majority of the beef supply in the U.S.? This is one reason that our food supply chain is so fragile. And this is what AJ Richards is setting out to change. AJ is a combat veteran, an entrepreneur and the head of Sustenance Earth, Inc. He wants to help everyone understand the importance of knowing the provenance of their food and establishing food security. As AJ puts it, it's time to "shake the hand that feeds us" by getting to know our local rancher. Going local upsets the conventional beef industry but it shores up your food security. You see, it's the beef industry centralization that is compounding issues in our national US food system...and that same system is negatively impacting our health and food sovereignty. AJ highlights today some of the issues with the current system and how to opt out of it, for the sake of your health and food freedom). He also tells of a standoff that his family had with the Bureau of Land Management that was attempting to confiscate their land. "Remember that you will become like the five people you spend the most time with." Our guest this week is AJ Richards. AJ is a combat veteran, entrepreneur, and CEO of Sustenance Earth, an early-stage SAAS marketplace that plans to connect consumers directly to local food producers, starting with beef. His passion for ag stems from his family ranching background in Southern Utah, followed by an enlistment in the Army National Guard and a deployment to Iraqi from 2005-2006. Like many veterans, AJ struggled to find his purpose following military service, spending time selling pest control products, working in the oil field, self-development coaching, managing a USDA beef processing plant, and starting a CrossFit style fitness competition. The quote above comes from a realization during this search that he was not surrounded by the type of people who would have a positive impact on this life. So he made a change. In this episode, AJ and I discuss the myriad of business opportunities he's been a part of, some of them unsuccessful, and the lessons learned from those experiences. It was enjoyable following this story during our conversation where he never lost sight of his desire to be back in agriculture. Sustenance Earth was born out of those experiences as well as the struggles we all saw with the food supply chain during COVID. Listen in as AJ describes his path to be the “Airbnb” for the food supply chain. You can follow AJ on LinkedIn, Instagram, and TikTok. He's also started a discord group geared towards helping producers find interested buyers. The group can be found here - www.feedthepeoplebythepeople.com

To address this, he has established a team to create a SAAS marketplace connecting consumers directly to producers nationwide. By empowering families with control over their food supply, AJ aims to enhance food security and reduce the carbon footprint associated with food imports. AJ's ultimate goal is to bring locally sourced meat, produce, dairy, and eggs to tables across the US while transforming the food supply chain and benefiting the local communities and the environment. With steady growth and your support, we are well on our way to realizing this vision. - AJ and I dive into some of his family's background in agriculture as homesteaders in southern Utah and his growing up in a small rural community. With roughly 97% of the population eating meat, it's mind-blowing that 85% of the American meat supply chain is in the hands of four corporations, two of which are foreign. What's also disturbing is the deliberate manipulation of beef prices, the rise in food intellectual property (IP) in the form of GMO food solutions and fake meat products grown in a lab, and the regulatory constraints placed on small cattle ranches trying to make our food supply chain more robust and secure. My guest today, AJ Richards, is leading the charge when it comes to a new way to deliver beef to the American consumer directly from the ranches themselves in order to cut out the excess cost, regulation, manipulation, and build out a stronger, more diverse supply of food. Today, we talk about the crumbling food supply chain, our import to export dilemma, overcoming the monopolies of food producers, why homesteading in America is once again growing, and so much more. A fascinating conversation about this revealing nonfiction audiobook that teaches us powerful lessons we can derive from the masterful William Shakespeare. This is truly a case of fiction informing reality, in which the playwright's deep understanding of humanity surpasses current psychology. The work of authors Richards and Gilligan has led to prison programs that successfully reform and change the lives of violent perpetrators so they are able to reject violence as a means of expression. My guest is AJ Richards the founder of Women Belong in Baseball which was formed in 2015 to support, encourage, and advocate for girls and women in all aspects of baseball including playing, front office, coaching, scouting, umpiring, managing and journalism/media. AJ Richard grew up an avid baseball fan and dreamed of playing 3B for the Chicago Cubs. In 9th grade an English teacher told her to write an essay about what she wanted to be when she grew up. She wrote about being an MLB manager. The teacher told her she couldn’t do that because she’s a girl eventually she lost interest in baseball. Years later a friend told her about Jackie Mitchell, a 17 year-old woman who struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in succession in an exhibition game. This made AJ realize Women do belong in baseball so she wanted to spread the word about the women trail blazers and the opportunities that are available for girls and women in baseball so she established a social media presence for Women Belong in Baseball. AJ is a self described scholar, activist, and advocate currently finishing her master’s thesis “I Was a Trail Blazer”: The Baseball Playing Experiences of Girls.” For show notes and related links for this episode click HERE. In this episode of FitBiz Talk, we talk with AJ Richards. AJ was the founder of Crossfit Mesa and Rush Club Nation. Rush Club Nation was a UFC style head to head fitness competition under the lights in front of a large crowd that was streamed live to over a half a million viewers. Unfortunately, Crossfit Mesa and Rush Club Nation met their demise and AJ had to file for bankruptcy. AJ speaks in depth about the lessons he learned building a Crossfit gym and a widely successful competition and most importantly what their failures taught him. AJ is now the founder of Dream Big Play Bigger and is not only a fitness coach for individuals looking to lose weight but also helping with mental and emotional issues. There is a lot to learn from this episode as AJ has seen both sides of being very successful and the failures that may arise if you don’t have your business running effectively. As AJ looks back upon his past, he passes on recommendation on how you can set yourself and your business up for long term success.

AJ Richards served in the Utah National Guard and started a few businesses over the years. AJ is also an entrepreneur and the CEO of Rush Club Nation. He was born in Southern Utah and spent much of his childhood playing with cousins at the family cattle ranch. He dropped out of high school his senior year and joined the military. From the age of 16 until he deployed, AJ went through a new job every three months. In 2005 he deployed with his field artillery unit to Ramadi, Iraq. After returning from Iraq, AJ took a job but found himself miserable selling pest control door-to-door. He was depressed and was soon misdiagnosed by doctors with PTSD. He chose to not take the prescribed antidepressants, he started exercising and discovered CrossFit as a way to enhance his mental and physical wellbeing. AJ opened his own CrossFit gym in 2011, in 2013 he had an idea to do with CrossFit athletes and competition what Dana White did with the UFC. He took CrossFit and made it entertaining and added weight divisions. With only 3 years invested, AJ is the CEO of Rush Club Nation. He’s been figuring out how to manage Rush Club’s popularity and massive growth while figuring out how to scale nationwide and globally. In this episode we touch on discovering your purpose, the power of positivity, finding a mission that makes you wake up on fire with enthusiasm, the power of vulnerable leadership, the vision for Rush Club and so much more. “At some point I threatened to kill my partner and myself. I was put in the psych ward and diagnosed with PTSD.” Cleo DeLoner has a very powerful story to share. She is an Army Veteran and former police officer who sunk so deep into depression and PTSD, that she tried to take her own life. “I took a long rifle and a loaded magazine, drove out to a river (… ) held the rifle to my face and pulled the trigger. It broke all of the bones in my face and I never lost consciousness,” DeLoner explains. “I walked around for a while and ended up driving to get help.” Remarkably, DeLoner was able to get behind the wheel and flag down a woman for help. “After the impact and I realized I was alive and I thought to myself — wow, I did it. Oh my God I am still alive,” DeLoner says. “I think the human spirit goes into survival mode and I started taking steps to get myself help.” Never before had she seen someone walking on that remote road near the river 15 minutes from her home, and DeLoner says in that moment she thought the woman might be an angel. It seems, in many ways, she was. “I stumbled toward her kind of like the characters on Walking Dead.” The woman drove DeLoner to the hospital and while her life was spared, there was an agonizing journey ahead. DeLoner says she was hospitalized 32 times, endured electric shock therapy, and was on multiple psych pills. She was alive — yes, but she was far from healed. Nothing was working. And then DeLoner received a phone call about bio-feedback and neuro-feedback therapy. She flew to Bethesda, Maryland to check it out and says it changed everything. After 25 treatments, DeLoner says all of her symptoms, including debilitating PTSD, were eliminated and she weaned herself off of what she calls “zombie dope”, the psych meds and painkillers that she thought she'd be taking for the rest of her life. After that, DeLoner was put in touch with AJ Richards, owner of CrossFit Mesa and founder of Rush Club. Richards, a fellow Veteran, embraced the mission of healing and welcomed DeLoner into his community of veterans and civilians who are all seeking out health and purpose in their lives. “What we keep hearing over and over is that painkillers don't work they just dull you until you are just done. These medicines don't seem to be working for most people,” Richards says. DeLoner, now a writer and public speaker, wants to share her story with the masses. Recently Richards and DeLoner teamed up to speak to the Arizona Coalition, a group of Veterans who wanted to hear more of DeLoner's story — and who embraced the message, “you are not your diagnosis.” “I actually prayed to God and thanked him for not letting me die. I forgave myself for such a brutal assault on myself,” DeLoner says. “I feel a sense of responsibility to my Warrior brothers and sisters. I am living proof that there is hope that if they take that step into the light from the darkness. There is hope.” Links mentioned in this podcast www.deserttodesert.com www.azcoalition.org www.brainwellnessandbiofeedback.com www.rushclubnation.com Here is a poem from DeLoner's book, “Trigger Pieces”: I Am PTSD I have many aliases Soldier's Heart Battle Fatigue Shell Shock Broken I am like no enemy you have ever fought I control you I own you I insert horrific memories in your head at my beck and call I watch you from a distance As your eyes stare at nothing I startle you back to reality I freeze the most graphic images in your mind Forcing you to witness the horror over and over again I fuel your rage I fuel your hatred I take you close in my arms Away from everyone who cares about you I am jealous When I have you isolated, all to myself My relentless assault intensifies My voice is all that you will hear I will convince you that you are Worthless Guilty A burden Unloved and Unlovable I will bring you to your knees You will try to crawl your way out of the maze of confusion Until you collapse face down All the while I scream at you to end it I will drive you to a depth of darkness so deep No amount of light will penetrate I will envelope you in total and utter unimaginable despair The emptiness you feel carries a thousand echoes of the suffering that I inflict You will make futile attempts to silence me With your pathetic pills Your bottles of booze You will believe that I have retreated But I am still with you Waiting, watching, patiently Your staggering drunkenness Brings you to a state of unconsciousness You are right where I want you I now bring you the images in full color I add the sounds of screams Hovering over you I watch as you twitch Toss and turn Punch the air Cling to your blankets And scream, “No!” I drench you in cold sweat Forcing you to awaken sitting straight up As you gasp for air You don't like to talk about me to your loved ones Why would you want to? How would you describe me? Am I just a voice in your head? Am I the monster who has taken up residence in your mind? Better to just stay quiet Keep this affair between us I have convinced you that they don't care That I'm the only one who cares I'll never leave you alone This road that we stumble down together Is a road I walk with many I sabotage every relationship they have Their loved ones retreat Leaving them lonely They fought me They fought hard In the end they all succumb to me You will to You have embraced me without even knowing it I have you in the corner of darkness Providing you with an instrument of death I have encouraged you Guided you Defeated you Now I can sit back And watch your sad finale I Am PTSD! “Do not be afraid to seek out transformation of your mind.” AJ Richards came back from Iraq feeling that his life had no purpose. He was working for a pest control company, doing door-to-door sales at the time. Richards realized that he had to make changes or he might not survive. “I was a soldier and I wore that very proudly. I was totally prepared to die while I was over there. When I got home, there was nowhere to go to. I got a job with a pest control company and I found myself depressed because just getting a job and a paycheck wasn't enough.” What was missing from his life, Richards says, was physicality and purpose. He had gone from being a warrior to living a very stagnant life. He was not doing enough physically to get the hormones released, Richards says. He believes that was at the core of his growing depression. “My theory is what is needed is physical activity.” Richards opened CrossFit Mesa and soon after had an idea for a competition. He founded Rush Club, a head-to-head weight class competition. Kind of like Fight Club meets CrossFit. From there, the idea exploded. Rush Club has grown over the past two years into a highly watched event. It also has seen a spike in interest from Veterans looking to compete. Richards opened up the competition to adaptive athletes, some have become national celebrities. Two well known Veteran Athletes, Derek Weida and Mike Gallardo, both amputees, will be among the competitors at a Rush Club this weekend taking place at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix, Arizona. Richards points to this as an example of Rush Club's mission, “You are a warrior. You can be responsible for your own recovery. Get up and move.” For AJ Richards, it has been a long, tough journey to now. But he made a decision to be mindful of where he wanted to go next with his life. He wanted not only to find success and happiness for himself, he wanted to inspire others along the way. His goals now are lofty. Within the 12 months they hope to stream competitions to half-million people, and in 5 years be as big as the UFC. Expressing those goals is a little bit intimidating, but it is all part of Richards' journey. “If you are committed to something and you say it, and it doesn't scare you, it's not big enough.” The post Fight Club Meets Crossfit: Helping Veterans Find New Purpose appeared first on Inspired Media 360 TV - Inform | Inspire | Engage.
