Day Two (May 23, 2025): Willie the Whit & Anticipating the "Memory Engines"UPCOMING LIVE WORKSHOP ON 5/25/25 WITH DR. ANTHONY METIVIER ON MEMORY ENGINES!!!Today, we're building on the foundation laid by previous Magnetic Memory workshops. Willie the Whit isn't just guessing what the "Memory Engines" are; he's using his already established understanding of Magnetic Imagery and Memory Palaces to anticipate how these new encoding "engines" will fit into and enhance his existing framework. The upcoming workshop isn't a completely new language, but a deeper dive into the grammar of effective memory input.Willie the Whit's Pre-Anticipated "Memory Engines" (Informed by Past MMM Workshops:Given Anthony's focus on "poor encoding" and "Magnetic Imagery," these "Engines" are likely mechanisms for making those images more effective at the crucial point of input. Willie knows:HE IS A FICTIONAL DETECTIVE IN MY DEVELOPING BOOK THE GREATER PORTLAND CRAB CAPER!*******He's a student of The MMM Courses in MY BOOK!!Willie's Mnemonic Acrostic Phrase:Witty Images Touch Numerous Essences: Sensory, Motion, Emotional, Absurdity, Conceptual, Location, Generation, Vividness!Sensory Multiplier,Motion (Kinesthetic) Engine,Emotional Amplifier,Absurdity (Exaggeration) Creator,Conceptual Hook,Location Linker,Generation Gear (Rapid Generation),Vividness Validation,Revised Mnemonic for the 8 Anticipated "Memory Engines":Willie knows the E.N.C.O.D.I.N.G. is key! Scene for Willie's ENCODING Engines:Imagine Edgar Nimbus (P), with his cloud of ideas, feverishly creating operations (A) on a massive, humming Digital Input Network Grid (O). As he works, each "engine" lights up a section of the grid, showing how information is precisely and powerfully woven in.Today's focus is on how previous MMM knowledge prepares us for the deep dive into encoding.Daily Mnemonic (May 23, 2025): "P.R.E.P. - A.R.E."Past: Previous workshops provide the foundation.Ready: I am prepared for new insights.Encoding: The core focus of this workshop.Practical: Skills I will immediately apply.Anthony: The master guides my learning.Real-Time: Applying techniques live.Engines: Building powerful memory mechanisms.Visualize Probing Robots Exploring Portals, then Anthony Radiating Energy, ready to activate the "Engines."(Day 2 - Refined Focus):Willie The Whit-contemplating?#MemoryEngineAnticipation,#MagneticMemoryEvolution,#Anthony Metivier raining,#EncodingExcellence,#BrainBuildingBlocks#CognitiveProgress,#WillieTheWhit,#GrandpaBillPodcast,#BHSalesKennelKelpHolisticHealthHour#MemoryMastery,#AdvancedMemory,#MemoryInput,#LifelongLearning,#HolisticBrain,#MagneticImagery,#PreWorkshopDeepDive,#MemoryMethods,

CLOSE OF THE COLD WAR:     1/4: The Picnic:A Dream of Freedom and the Collapse of the Iron Curtain by  Matthew Longo  (Author) https://www.amazon.com/Picnic-Dream-Freedom-Collapse-Curtain/dp/0393540774/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr= In August 1989, a group of Hungarian activists organized a picnic on the border of Hungary and Austria. But this was not an ordinary picnic―it was located on the dangerous militarized frontier known as the Iron Curtain. Tacit permission from the highest state authorities could be revoked at any moment. On wisps of rumor, thousands of East German “vacationers” packed Hungarian campgrounds, awaiting an opportunity, fearing prison, surveilled by lurking Stasi agents. The Pan-European Picnic set the stage for the greatest border breach in Cold War history: hundreds crossed from the Communist East to the longed-for freedom of the West. Drawing on dozens of original interviews―including Hungarian activists and border guards, East German refugees, Stasi secret police, and the last Communist prime minister of Hungary―Matthew Longo tells a gripping and revelatory tale of the unraveling of the Iron Curtain and the birth of a new world order. Just a few months after the Picnic, the Berlin Wall fell, and the freedom for which the activists and refugees had abandoned their homes, risked imprisonment, sacrificed jobs, family, and friends, was suddenly available to everyone. But were they really free? And why, three decades since the Iron Curtain was torn down, have so many sought once again to build walls? Cinematically told, The Picnic recovers a time when it seemed possible for the world to change. With insight and panache, Longo explores the opportunities taken―and the opportunities we failed to take―in that pivotal moment. 1956 BUDAPEST

Science in Action this week comes from the European Geophysical Union general assembly, an annual get-together of scientists to discuss current projects, working hypotheses and potential findings. Nearly 18,000 in attendance this year, there is much to learn.AMOC – the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation - brings warmth to the north and cooler waters to the south in huge volumes. Climate modellers have expressed concern for its collapse (and subsequent weather chaos) as temperatures rise more generally, but others have said it is more resilient, a will-it-won't-it discussion Science in Action has covered before. But just this week, Stefan Rhamstorf has announced that extending the models past 2100 can show a different picture. The odds, he tells science in action, have shifted from 10% to more like 50/50 if the Paris climate target is missed. Has such climate change ever occurred before? And if so, what drove it? Hana Jurikova and colleagues have been using novel techniques to detect a link between atmospheric CO2 levels and rapid climate change in the geological past, and talks about how boron records in ancient brachiopods might give us a clue. What of the 6.2 magnitude earthquake near Istanbul last week? Could it have been worse? Will the next one be the big one? Expert Patricia Martínez-Garzón of GFZ in Germany doesn't quite allay the fears.Could more lives be saved from landslides and flash floods if we could set up a warning system? Stefania Ursica hopes so, and has looked to animal behaviour to design a programme to scan networks of seismic monitoring stations' output for the faint signals. Encoding different hunting and communication strategies – from nomadic whales to humming birds and bats, her new algorithm might be just the thing, though prediction will always be a different problem.Presenter: Roland Pease Producer: Alex Mansfield with Sophie Ormiston Production Coordinator: Josie Hardy(Image: 3D Render of a Topographic Map of Western Europe with the clouds from January 27, 2025. Tony is team neuroscience. You'll hear him discuss why in this episode, especially when it comes to ways in which development and evolution might inspire better data efficiency, looking to animals in general to understand how they coordinate numerous objective functions to achieve their intelligent behaviors - something Tony calls alignment - and using spikes in AI models to increase energy efficiency. The Intuitive Customer - Improve Your Customer Experience To Gain Growth

Play Episode Listen Later May 11, 2024 29:41

A Master Class Part 2: Unlocking the Psychology of Customer Experience In this episode, we continue exploring the psychology behind Customer Experience, focusing on the role of memory. Customer loyalty hinges on how memories are formed and retained. Therefore, understanding memory formation is crucial for designing impactful experiences. Memory formation begins with encoding, where new information is processed and stored in the mind. Encoding involves several effects, including the Primacy Effect, which prioritizes remembering initial experiences, and the Recency Effect, which emphasizes recollecting recent events. Additionally, the Frequency Effect highlights the importance of repeated actions in memory retention. Retrieval effects determine how stored memories are recalled. Professor Daniel Kahneman's Peak-End Rule suggests that people remember the most intense emotion experienced during an event and its conclusion. This rule applies to evaluative memory, shaping overall perceptions of past experiences. Memory also has structure. Memory structure resembles a fishing net, with individual memories as knots connected to form a net, which represents the larger memory network. Retrieving one memory often triggers the recall of associated memories, along with the emotions and experiences linked to them. It's helpful to picture the fishing net at the bottom of a shallow pool and imagine pulling it by one of the knots to the surface. You get the knot you grabbed, but all the connected knots come along, too. Strategically managing memory formation involves planning for encoding, recall, and structure. Tactics such as leveraging primacy and recency, incorporating humor or emotional connections, and providing follow-up reminders can enhance memory retention. It's crucial to prioritize memorable aspects of the experience and reinforce positive memories over time. Considering the interconnected nature of memory concepts, such as the relationship between encoding and recall, helps design experiences that leave a lasting impression. For instance, understanding how customers perceive value allows you, as a professional, to highlight key features that resonate with your target audience, instilling confidence in your ability to create memorable customer experiences. In this episode, we discuss how memory plays a significant role in driving customer loyalty, making it essential to proactively shape how customers remember their experiences. By being deliberate about memory formation, businesses can create meaningful connections and foster enduring relationships with their customers.   In this episode, you will also learn: The importance of encoding and retrieval in memory formation. Strategies for enhancing memory retention, such as leveraging Primacy and Recency effects. The role of emotional connections in shaping memorable experiences. The significance of follow-up communication in reinforcing positive memories. How memory structure influences the recall of associated experiences. The interconnected nature of memory concepts and their implications for experience design.

EMERGENCE OF THE CORTICAL ENCODING OF PHONETIC FEATURES IN THE FIRST YEAR OF LIFEGiovanni M. Di Liberto, Adam Attaheri, Giorgia Cantisani, Richard B. Reilly, Áine Ní Choisdealbha, Sinead Rocha, Perrine Brusini & Usha Goswami   Nature Communications volume 14, Article number: 7789 (2023)   Abstract  Even prior to producing their first words, infants are developing a sophisticated speech processing system, with robust word recognition present by 4–6 months of age.   These emergent linguistic skills, observed with behavioural investigations, are likely to rely on increasingly sophisticated neural underpinnings. The infant brain is known to robustly track the speech envelope, however previous cortical tracking studies were unable to demonstrate the presence of phonetic feature encoding.  Here we utilise temporal response functions computed from electrophysiological responses to nursery rhymes to investigate the cortical encoding of phonetic features in a longitudinal cohort of infants when aged 4, 7 and 11 months, as well as adults.   The analyses reveal an increasingly detailed and acoustically invariant phonetic encoding emerging over the first year of life, providing neurophysiological evidence that the pre-verbal human cortex learns phonetic categories. By contrast, we found no credible evidence for age-related increases in cortical tracking of the acoustic spectrogram.

I was recently invited to moderate at discussion amongst 6 people at the annual Aspirational Neuroscience meetup. Aspirational Neuroscience is a nonprofit community run by Kenneth Hayworth. Ken has been on the podcast before on episode 103. Ken helps me introduce the meetup and panel discussion for a few minutes. The goal in general was to discuss how current and developing neuroscience technologies might be used to decode a nontrivial memory from a static connectome - what the obstacles are, how to surmount those obstacles, and so on. There isn't video of the event, just audio, and because we were all sharing microphones and they were being passed around, you'll hear some microphone type noise along the way - but I did my best to optimize the audio quality, and it turned out mostly quite listenable I believe. Aspirational Neuroscience Panelists: Anton Arkhipov, Allen Institute for Brain Science. @AntonSArkhipov Konrad Kording, University of Pennsylvania. @KordingLab Tomás Ryan, Trinity College Dublin. @TJRyan_77 Srinivas Turaga, Janelia Research Campus. We're so lucky to be joined this episode by Erin Keif (she/her) of the beloved Headgum podcasts Hey Riddle Riddle and Sitcom DnD. If you're a fan of Les Mis, or any musical, you'll appreciate this really special episode that covers Stuart Hall's theory of encoding/decoding, while also getting into the lyrics and musicality of the megamusical: Les Misérables. Hannah guides Marcelle and Erin through a history lesson that covers Thatcherite England and defunding of the arts in the 70s and 80s, while bringing her own relationship to Claude-Michel Schönberg's music and Alain Boublil's lyrics into the conversation. Erin, a musical enthusiast (among other things), brings some much-needed levity (as well as a catchphrase) to a discussion that touches on some more difficult themes including: death, parental loss, and violence against the oppressed. If you like our show, please share it with family and friends! Word-of-mouth is the primary way we reach new listeners who are interested in feminist materialist critique, pop culture and laughing at and from within *the discourse.* Share the show today!***Material Girls is a new show that aims to make sense of the zeitgeist through materialist critique* and critical theory! Each episode looks at a unique object of study (something popular now or from back in the day) and over the course of three distinct segments, Hannah and Marcelle apply their academic expertise to the topic at hand. We'll be back in two weeks for another episode, but until then, be sure to check out all the bonus content we have on our Patreon at Patreon.com/ohwitchplease. Check out our website ohwitchplease.ca.*Materialist Critique is, at its simplest possible level, a form of cultural critique – that is, scholarly engagement with a cultural text of some kind – that is interested in modes of production, moments of reception, and the historical and ideological contexts for both. Materialist critique is really interested in the question of why a particular cultural work or practice emerged at a particular moment. Naively, perhaps, Rajaratnam had expected to get a fair hearing in court. As an immigrant who had achieved tremendous success in his adopted country, he trusted the system. He had not anticipated prosecutorial overreach—inspired by political ambition—FBI fabrications, judicial compliance, and lies told under oath by cooperating witnesses. In the end, Rajaratnam was convicted and sentenced to eleven years in prison. He served seven and a half. Meanwhile, not a single senior bank executive responsible for the financial crisis was even charged. Uneven Justice is the story of his bewildering and confounding prosecution by forces who, quite frankly, were looking for bigger game. When Rajaratnam refused to support the narrative that would make that happen, he and the Galleon Group became collateral damage. A cautionary tale with implications for us all, Uneven Justice is both a riveting page-turner and an eye-opening lesson in the vagaries of justice when an unscrupulous prosecutor is calling the shots.
