Perhaps you've heard of Hofstadter's Law: “It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter's Law.” In today's episode, SPCT, Gez Smith, offers some tips on how to make peace with the law by adjusting expectations during PI planning, adding your IP iteration to your ART planning board, and implementing a “not going to happen column.”
1. When Christ is understood then Adam is also understood.--2. Adam was a type of Him who was to come -Christ-, but only as a shadow.--3. God determined to preach the gospel first in Adam in which He introduced the legal concept of UNION, REPRESENTATION and IMPUTATION.--4. These are the most FUNDAMENTAL doctrines in respect of God's transaction of salvation.--5. Adam was raised as the representative of all human so that when he sinned all humanity was reckoned as having sinned with and in him.--6. And God's emphasizes on Adam was that he was the One Man and his One transgression-misstep-offense brought sin, death and condemnation to all without exception. --7. On the flip side of things, Christ Jesus was also represented in the gospel testimony of Adam but to work righteousness not condemnation. --8. Christ came like Adam as the One Man who would bring justification, reconciliation, peace with God to those of His elect who had passed through Adam. --9. The elect were justified in their union with Christ. They were in Christ and with Christ by legal union and representation. --10. The elect were never to remain in Adam. Adam was just a detour for them so that God's riches of grace and mercy may be praised in their salvation.--11. Christ Jesus by His one act of OBEDIENCE -death on the cross- justified the many -the many numbered as the elect, not all humanity.---12. So, what was the purpose of the Law-- IT was given not to make human beings better, but to INCREASE sin. But where sin increased, grace did much more abound.--13. This episode is a re-publication of a seminar organised by the research project the End of Law, at CTR. Dr Mårten Björk will take the lead, and introduces the inaugural episode of the End of law podcast, and a lecture by professor Jeff Lo ve, with the title: "Between Kant and Hegel: Alexandre Kojève and the End of Law" It was recorded on 1 June 2021 as part of the Law, Theology and Culture seminar in Lund. Alexandre Kojève is best known for the influential lectures he gave on Hegel to an enthralled audience of French intellectuals including Raymond Aron, Henry Corbin, Jacques Lacan, and Maurice Merleau-Ponty. Aside from these lectures, published in 1947 as Introduction to the Reading of Hegel, Kojéve published relatively little before his death in 1968. Yet, he left over 26 boxes of unpublished material on a variety of topics, from quantum physics and the continuum hypothesis to a major treatise on law called Outline of a Phenomenology of Right (Esquisse d'une phénoménologie du droit). Kojève wrote this treatise (586 pages in the French book edition) in 1943 while living in Vichy France. He expounds in it a comprehensive theory of justice and the universal homogeneous state that promises to usher in the end of history and perhaps of law itself. In my talk, I shall examine some of the central legal features of Kojève's universal and homogeneous state and consider whether Kojève actually affirms that history can be brought to an end through a final legal regime or not. In this respect, Kojève reprises his end of history thesis from the Hegel lectures as well as putting it in question, opposing Hegelian finality to what Kojeve terms Kantian "skepticism" about final ends. Jeff Love is Research Professor of German and Russian at Clemson University. He is the author of The Black Circle: A Life of Alexandre Kojève (Columbia University Press, 2018), Tolstoy: A Guide for the Perplexed (Continuum, 2008), and The Overcoming of History in War and Peace (Brill, 2004). He has also published a translation of Alexandre Kojève's Atheism (Columbia University Press, 2018), an annotated translation (with Johannes Schmidt) of F.W. J. Schelling's Philosophical Investigations into the Essence of Human Freedom (State University of New York Press, 2006), and recently a translation of António Lobo Antunes's novel Until Stones Become Lighter Than Water (Yale University Press, 2019). ---------------------------------------------- Religion and Theology is produced by Joel Kuhlin for the Center for Theology and Religious Studies. GREATER GLORY OF GOD Presents Advent Special JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM Twenty-fourth Day - In the company of St. Joseph, the Father of Jesus - He is the Father of Jesus – in the eyes of the Law - It's ok to call him the Foster father of Jesus but not right - Through Joseph, Jesus is the Son of David – Geneology - I'm very sure – Jesus must have called Joseph Father ALWAYS - The husband of the Mother of Jesus – then who is Joseph to Jesus Luke 4:22 All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth. They said, “Is not this Joseph's son?” Matthew 13:54-55 He came to his hometown and began to teach the people in their synagogue, so that they were astounded and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these deeds of power? Is not this the carpenter's son? Joseph – the silent man - Silence makes him special and great Joseph the dreamer - Obedient - When Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him - It was enough for him to be told in a dream! He was a man of faith! Matthew 1:18-25 - According to Matthew - God reveals about the birth of Jesus to Joseph and not Mary - Only in dream Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph, being a righteous man and unwilling to expose her to public disgrace, planned to dismiss her quietly. But just when he had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel,” which means, “God is with us.” When Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took her as his wife, but had no marital relations with her until she had borne a son; and he named him Jesus. - Never speaks o To Mary after Annunciation o To Jesus after finding Him in the Temple - Question about his relationship with Mary and their other children o Joseph & Mary lived in Heaven o No marriage and begetting in Heaven o Both partners have to help each other to fulfil their responsibilities entrusted by God - Joseph had the privilege to be with God from the time he took Mary with him o What a privilege to be with God o Experience of being in heaven o Being at home o Journeys – Nazareth to Bethlehem § Bethlehem to Egypt § Egypt to Nazareth Every year to Jerusalem --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/greatergloryofgod/message
What if what you’ve been hoping for relies on your perseverance? What if you could accomplish your goals in the next 90 days? Instead of waiting for 2021, what if you started today to shift and adapt to the behaviors that support you the most? Last week we ended our “Faith Works” series and I hope and pray that it helped prepare you spiritually to fight through what’s in store. I know that my faith is a testament to my ability to persevere, and with approximately 12 weeks left in the year, it’s time for us to use this fourth quarter to finish what we started. After collectively dealing with so many hardships, now is the time to go all-in on our goals. While many of us may have to play catch, it’s important for all of us to acknowledge that 2020 is not cancelled and this pandemic has not postponed our purpose. In this next quarter you can’t fight for lack or scarcity. You have to be willing to shift your perspective, fight for abundance, seek gratitude, and fight to believe that even in the midst of a pandemic - all things will work together for your good. I believe that in this quarter the time will be collapsed for those of us who are focused, disciplined and intentional; but you have to have an expectation for what you want to create. In this episode, I want to give you three things to consider regarding what’s still possible for you this year: Covid did not change the call on your life - 05:53 You actually have more time than you think - 15:42 Provision has never been a problem in God’s economy - 19:20 This episode is brought to you by our complimentary Purpose Chasers community. Want to share your aha moments with a group of like-minded purpose chasers from all over the world? Visit iamapurposechaser.com and join NOW. What’s Still Possible Takeaways “2020 isn’t cancelled and your calling hasn’t been cancelled.” - Patrice Washington “The pandemic hasn’t postponed your purpose.” - Patrice Washington “Covid did not change the call on your life.” - Patrice Washington “The call on my life was illuminated because of the circumstances that I found myself in.” - Patrice Washington “There is still a call on your life.” - Patrice Washington “Curate a community that serves you.” - Patrice Washington “Pick your feet up and walk with purpose into 2021.” - Patrice Washington “I’d rather have a plan or be proactive, than be reactive months after the fact.” - Patrice Washington “You actually have more time than you think. You always have.” - Patrice Washington “The time you give yourself to complete a task is the time it will take.” - Parkinson’s Law “It’s not about finding time, it’s about making it.” - Patrice Washington “Provision has never been a problem in God’s economy.” - Patrice Washington “If God has given you a vision for your life, the provision is there.” - Patrice Washington “There’s no shortage of anything that could be a blessing to you.” - Patrice Washington “You have to be committed to the vision, not attached to how you get there.” - Lisa Nichols “If you know who you are and whose you are, the source is covered and all of the resources will be added.” - Patrice Washington LINKS: To advertise on the podcast: http://www.patricewashington.com/podcastads Become an Official Purpose Chaser: https://www.facebook.com/groups/redefiningwealthcommunity/?ref=bookmarks To check out ALL of our past guests + episodes: http://www.patricewashington.com/Listen If you have questions about booking Patrice or sponsoring the podcast, email us at info@seekwisdomfindwealth.com. In Episode 50, Craig and Bradford tackle five more (mostly) baseball topics. 1. An offer you can refuse: Now MLB hasn't actually officially sent their offer to the Player's Association yet, but we do somehow seem to know a whole lot about it.2. Our people will call your people: MLB hasn't officially postponed the 2021 WBC to 2023, but everyone seemed to find about it on Twitter, including (checks notes) several participating countries.3. Boros's Law: It's like Voros's Law, but for campaigning powerful agents to Stalin. Or maybe it's like Godwin's law.4. Craig decided that "From the horse's mouth" wasn't too mean: Mark Teixeira wants you to do as he says not as he did.5. Chicago Fire: J.B. Pritzker has been a real Dick Wolf about the whole MLB restart.Five and Dive is listener-supported, you can join our Patreon at patreon.com/fiveanddive. We are about to enter into the season of Lent. Next Sunday is the first Sunday in Lent,And next Sunday we will talk about what that means from a Biblical perspective…Not a worldly perspective. And to prepare for this upcoming season of Lent, i want to look at God’s Saving Grace. And I want to start by looking at the Ten Commandments.Let’s dig in.The 10 Commandments…the Law of God.Where is the grace in the Law?Well, we heard in our reading this morning these Ten Commandments,And it would seem there is no grace in there.Just a list of what, and what not, to do.And that is true on the surface. Now, I am not going to go through each commandment this morning.Instead I want to look at the Spirit of the Law.What is the purpose of the Law?It is to show us our need for God’s Great Grace. We can’t live up to the letter of this Law.Let me ask you something…Have you ever lied? Then you are a liar.Have you ever stolen anything? Then you are a thief.Have you ever gossiped or been involved in rumors? Then you have borne false witness.Have you ever not honored your parents?Have you ever misused the Name of the Lord? You get the point? You and I cannot, and have not, lived up to the letter of the Law.We are sinners. And in the presence of a Holy and Just God, we cannot stand.Because of God being Holy and Just and Omniscient,God knows we cannot live up to the letter of the Law.Then why give it to us?Well, because without God’s Law, we sinners do not know we have sinned.Without something to measure against, we cannot know where we stand. And this Law of God is not just on a couple of tablets. It is written on our hearts and minds. You see, God has made known to each one of us the Law of God.And in this Law that is written on our hearts and minds, we find that we have a longing,To be made right with God…to worship God.We recognize there is a hole in who we are that needs to be made complete. And we will spend our lives trying to find that completeness in any variety of ways.God’s Law is in us, but to be fully realized, there is another component we need.See, this Law of God doesn’t save us, or show us grace in and of itself.Instead, it points us to Grace. The Law shows us where and why we need God’s Great Grace. It points out my need for a Savior…for Christ.Because of my sinful nature, the Law itself cannot save me.And that is why God used the Law to show my need for Him,And then gave himself TO save me!God told us, ‘here is what is required, and you cannot meet it.But do not lose hope because I have made a way for this requirement to be met!’God says to us that though we fail short, and cannot meet the Law’s requirements,He is faithful to us, even in our sin…our falling short!Hallelujah! Praise God!The Law shows us that our sinful nature leads to death, because not meeting the Law’s requirements leads to death! Our sinful nature cannot fulfill the Law, and failing to meet the Law’s requirements brings death.I hope you see the connection here.List

Explore the Double Use of the Law. What is the first use of the Law? It restrains by motivation of fear. The first use of the Law is a way of restraining any sin that works outwardly. The image of chains is a negative motivation. Why do we need the second use of the Law? What do the first and second use of the Law do differently? There is a distinction between inner and outer. The second use has to come down to thunder into our heart and shows us the first use of the Law’s problems, big or small, are rooted in our hearts. Luther stated, “The restraint showeth plainly enough that they which have need of the law (as all they have which are without Christ) are not righteous, but rather wicked and mad men, whom it is necessary, by the bonds and prison of the law, so to bridle, that they sin not.” Christ frees us from the Law but we are still in the flesh. There is no true active righteousness. Passive righteousness comes first that counts for the Christian. When we come to the first use of the Law it reigns over us as the outer person. The second use of the Law comes in to strike the inner man and show that we are dead and in bondage to sin. It is only in that work of restraining and then breaking the heart that the gospel comes in to enliven the inner man.
An Age of Transition On one end, its beginning is the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ, by which the full debt of the law was paid. The Father didn't forgive the debt; it was a real debt, and had to be paid in reality. Jesus PAID it; It is “finished.” Jesus's sinless death was the full recompense necessary to conclude the period of law. The temple veil, the boundary separating God from man, was torn in two. Age of Grace As great and awesome and wonderful as the Crucifixion was, it only concluded God's purpose for the previous time period (Age of Law): It didn't start something new. It wasn't until the Resurrection that the Tree of Life was made available again to any who were without sin (all sins were paid for, even those not yet committed). It was this Tree, Jesus, which changed the very nature of man, making him a new creature, not a re-newed one. Overlap of Law and Grace The law was given for a purpose and will never change until it has completed its work on this earth. So God changed us! We can't be both under law and under grace! Since the law has done its part, we shouldn't bring it with us. The law is like a crossing guard, protecting and guiding us in the right path. Once on the other side of the street, we continue on to our destination, motivated now out of our new inner nature, rather than outward direction or instruction. The crossing guard remains at his post, left behind to continue his job. What's the Next Age? Walking in total dependence on God for life itself. Jesus was so dependent on His Father that His Father could revolve the entire universe around Him. The Father sent His Son, trained and taught His Son, crucified His Son, lowered His Son, resurrected His Son, and is glorifying His Son, all with the perfect cooperation, dependence and enjoyment of His Son.
What Age Are We Living In? We are presently living in the Age of Grace, based on world events, time-line indicators and, most importantly, the aspects of relationship with God that are available to us today. In the Beginning We can conclude that we don't know everything about time, that it is not an “absolute,” and that some of our beliefs that involve time and the boundaries it represents are probably incorrect. In the Garden We have no idea how long Adam and Eve were in the garden. But we do know that at a certain point in time God kicked them out. A new era, or age, had begun: What was okay one day was not okay the next. Every Man's Heart During the Age of Knowledge, everyone did what their personal knowledge told them to do. During this time period there were judges, priests, kings, prophets, seers, and other leaders God would occasionally raise up in order to instruct and guide the people. Age of Transition One day God's people were sacrificing animals in the temple, and it was acceptable; the next day — the day of the Resurrection — the sacrifice was no longer acceptable or sufficient as atonement for sin. Age of Grace As great and awesome and wonderful as the Crucifixion was, it only concluded God's purpose for the previous time period (Age of Law): It didn't start something new. It wasn't until the Resurrection that the Tree of Life, Jesus, was made available again to any who were without sin (all sins were paid for, even those not yet committed). Overlap of Law and Grace We often insist on using the old rules to judge by, as if the debt hadn't been paid, as if there was still something that needed to be done in order to enter into union with God.

Week 6: Acts 15-17 Acts 15 begins with controversy. Paul and Barnabas find all their work from their missionary journey under scrutiny for its validity because men from Judea say that Gentiles must be circumcised to be Christians. This leads to the Council of Jerusalem and the greatest change and blessing in world history, especially if you're a Gentile! In today's podcast, we'll discuss: The controversy over circumcision (following the Law) It's okay to disagree (in the right spirit) The […]
In this lesson, Carson begins where the last lesson left off with the Sinai Covenant wherein God enters into a solemn covenant relationship with the 12 Tribes of Israel. This covenant, which involves a sacrifice and a sacrificial meal, transforms Israel into a nation. The covenant law is the Book of the Covenant (Exodus 20-23). However, as soon as Israel enters into this covenant, Israel breaks it by committing a grave act of apostasy. Israel does so by constructing and worshipping a golden calf, which is a return to the idolatrous worship of the Egyptian Apis cult. This mortal sin causes the covenant curse to be administered. The Tribe of Levi slaughters 3,000 Israelites in one day. In doing so, Levi is granted the priesthood, and so the Levitical priesthood begins as a probationary, temporary priesthood to keep Israel, God's wayward son, in check until the time Jesus comes to completely deliver Israel from this broken covenant. Jesus will do this through his redemptive death upon the Cross. The Mosaic Law contains many commandments given after Israel apostatized in Genesis 32. This is why St. Paul says in Galatians 3:19, "Why then the Law? It was added because of transgressions, till the offspring (Jesus) should come to whom the promise had been made." You will also see how Moses serves as a type of Christ in the way he mediates between God and Israel in several significant instances.
