I remember when I first heard about the name of this episode's brewery, I gravitated towards it. Why, you may ask? Well, that's how my cousin used to describe me as a kid, Shifty…a Shifty Bloody Little Ukrainian, he would call me. He was a bit older than me, and he wasn't using it in a derogatory fashion; he was also a shifty bloody Ukrainian, just an older one! To us, shifty meant more about not accepting the status quo, always looking for opportunities, having the gift of the gab, and using that to your benefit. He was right; I've talked my way into many situations that benefit me and probably out of many situations that weren't so great. I'm always looking for opportunities to get an easy win or make the most of a situation. So how does the term Shifty translate in the beer world? Are the Team at Shifty Lizard street-smart hustlers looking to make the most of what life throws at them, or was it just a cool-sounding name?I've got no idea, so let's find out about that and a whole bunch more cool stuff with Shifty LIzard's Head Beer Maker Man, Lee Stone.Buy Shifty Lizard Beer Here

Lauren came to bioenergetics in search of healing her children and chose to make it her career after experiencing its success firsthand. In addition to a B.A. from Yale University and a Ph.D. from Cornell University, Lauren has a Master's in Human Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport. Lauren holds advanced certifications in Homotoxicology, BioSET, and Quantum Reflex Analysis and is a Board Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS), a Board Certified Holistic Health Practitioner (HHP), and a Board Certified Integrative Health Practitioner.Lauren is also a board member of Epidemic Answers, a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to reestablishing vibrant health in our children and ourselves through education, empowerment, and prevention.Although she works with clients nationally and internationally, Lauren has a private practice in homotoxicology and nutrition located in Westport, CT.Lauren is the author of Everyday Immunity: A Wellness Primer and co-author of the book Brain Under Attack: A Resource for Parents and Caregivers of Children with PANS, PANDAS, AND Autoimmune Encephalitis.Severe clinical conditions require careful attention and management. This is why most parents get overwhelmed when their kids have PANS (Pediatric Acute-Onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome), PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal infections), or autoimmune encephalopathy, which are all complex conditions.Today, we'll discuss with Dr. Lauren Lee Stone, a dear friend and our family practitioner who is the founder of Althea Health & Wellness, all about healing PANS/PANDAS and AE. Lauren's story of having her first child with autismLauren is the perfect guest to discuss this topic with because she has firsthand experience dealing with these clinical issues with her children. She did a great job healing her children from autism, PANS, and PANDAS.She expected to have a young and healthy baby with the way she took care of herself while she was in graduate school – eating organically, exercising regularly, and taking prenatal vitamins daily. But instead, she never imagined her baby so sick, troubled, and in pain. Her baby's pediatrician reassured her that what her baby was feeling was normal. However, as Lauren's kid got older, he started to have seizures. They were so worried about their son's condition that they went to a neurologist and a psychiatrist until they took him to the Child Study Center, where he was diagnosed with autism. Lauren was told that there was nothing they could do and that there was a high possibility that her son would continue to regress and get institutionalized. It was their turning point in changing their lives, as Lauren refused to let that happen.Lauren researched more about her son's condition and became her son's advocate. Then, finally, she became a practitioner motivated to keep doing that kind of work because no one was providing the help she needed. And thankfully, all their time and efforts paid off as Lauren's son fully recovered and even got his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering. What is homotoxicology, and how does it help people?Whereas the Western medical system views the body and health separately, homotoxicology considers them as one entire system and calls it the flow system. So what they try to do is to create a flow in the body because the flow disruption is what causes you to end up with a disease. Homotoxicology studies toxins and how they interact...

In this week's episode of IMPACT, we had a conversation with Dr. Lauren Lee Stone. Dr. Lauren is a Board-Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS), Holistic Health Practitioner, and Integrative Health Practitioner. Today, she is here to talk to us about how to treat autism and other chronic diseases.   Dr. Lauren discusses how her son's autism diagnosis led her to switch her field of study from Italian and French literature to holistic and integrative health, how long it took to start seeing positive results when healing his autism, commonalities she sees in treating kids with chronic illnesses, and more. We also speak about how foods have lost nutritional value throughout the decades and how infections run in biofilms. It always comes down to starting with the gut. The food we eat is essential to curing our body's illness.    Dr. Lauren was let down by the doctors at the Yale Child Study Center, so she took matters into her own hands and managed to heal her child with holistic and homeopathic medicine. Now he is a flourishing, handsome young man, on his way to getting his doctorate. It just goes to show that nothing is impossible in the world of natural medicine and healing.    Tune in, absorb, and take notes to take control of your child's health! KEY TAKEAWAYS [5:40] How Dr. Lauren became involved with integrative health because of her child's autism diagnosis [13:05] How long it took Dr. Lauren to start to see better results for her son [16:00] The cohort of chronic disease with which Dr. Lauren mostly deals [25:52] Commonalities in kids with chronic illness [30:28] Process to uncover what's happening at a root cause level HOW TO CONNECT WITH OUR GUEST Website: https://altheahealthandwellness.com/ MEMORABLE QUOTES “Where I live in Connecticut, it's super beautiful, but they've done studies and they found that we have a high level of mercury contamination in the air… I had no idea because we live out in the woods but he was being poisoned.” –Dr. Lauren Lee Stone    “My journey was what I needed to do to clean up his life and to detox his body. And the first step was obviously food. I think that we all are unfortunately in a really compromised place because of the food in the United States. The standard American diet is horrific… our soils are incredibly depleted.” –Dr. Lauren Lee Stone   “It's very interesting. The second we started to give him amino acids, which I realized it was just bypassing his faulty and leaky gut, his brain started changing and he started connecting, and it was amazing.” –Dr. Lauren Lee Stone   “We were giving him amino acids, we gave him fatty acids, and heavy-duty mitochondrial support. It was a life changing event for him to actually get nutrients in there. And then second to that, it was learning about homeopathic detoxes.” –Dr. Lauren Lee Stone    “The unfortunate truth is that we have to, in most cases, at least the kids that I deal with, you have to supplement. And really just giving that energetic boost to the cell. Once you have that extra energy, the body can choose to use it where it will and part of that is obviously to clean house.” –Dr. Lauren Lee Stone   “The thing for me that is the most troubling is that kids come into my office, young kids who are on 5-6 medications. They're all chasing symptoms and not really addressing any of the foundational pieces. I see this particularly with kids who have emotional expressions of disease, either who have focus issues, rage issues, or depression.” –Dr. Lauren Lee Stone   “I would say that the most basic commonality is food and the piece that we need to change right now is glyphosate. And thankfully, there have been a few great rulings on glyphosate in the United States just pass in the last two weeks.” –Dr. Lauren Lee Stone   “In truth, everything is part of a unified system. You can't speak of one without speaking of the whole. So that's what homotoxicology does, it looks at the whole being. It also looks at the being in terms of essential foundations which really is, it's light and vibration.” –Dr. Lauren Lee Stone   “We are light beings, we are all made up of vibrations. If you think back to basic chemistry, our bodies are made up of cells which can be broken down into molecules then atoms. We have electrons which circle the atom and the electrons vibrate.” –Dr. Lauren Lee Stone   “Everything in the universe has its own electromagnetic vibrational signature. And that includes all living and nonliving things, it includes things that are healthy for us and not healthy for us. It also includes things like healthy tissues and disease tissues.” –Dr. Lauren Lee Stone   “In my experience, infections like Lyme, strep, and whatever else, live often in biofilms, which means they have this little happy family of heavy metals that are with them, fungus that's with them, and they're out sort of together, hiding out in the body.” –Dr. Lauren Lee Stone

Not everyone can say they published two books during the pandemic, but Ashley Winstead can. Today we discuss her romance debut Fool Me Once and how Winstead hopes to break the mold with her romance characters. This week we continue our conversations with writers in our Summer Author Interview series. After our incredible kickoff with Jenny Pentland's memoir (episode 34), we move into lighter fiction waters with Fool Me Once, written by Ashley Winstead.I felt compelled to reach out to Ashley to hear about her surprising journey to full-time writing during the pandemic and what it was about this time that yielded such a fruitful creative time for her career. She shares how her previous job (as a communications director working in public policy) shaped the plot line for Lee Stone and the kickoff to her new romance series.I also want to know what it looks like to compartmentalize work when you write in two genres. For example, Ashley alternates writing thrillers (like In My Dreams I Hold a Knife and the soon-to-be-released The Last Housewife) and romance- two VERY different worlds. Are there two Ashleys? We need answers! She speaks with surprising vulnerability about the challenges in the romance industry and with great confidence about the kind of success she plans to achieve with her writing. HHL links artists and partnering organizations to facilitate programs that impact underserved communities. The Hip-Hop Loves Foundation (HHL) has  its “I Got 5 on Hip Hop Loves” Campaign and embarked on a collaborative effort to raise $1 Million to expand its work in the US, Brazil, Australia, Japan, and South Africa. The "I Got $5 on Hip Hop Loves" campaign in partnership with AllHipHop.com will encourage fans of Hip Hop from all over the world to donate $5 or more. The tax deductable donations will be used to establish Hip-Hop Loves workspace and workshop centers in New York City, Rio, Los Angeles, and Seattle. Mobile studios for workshops will be established in Africa, Australia, the United Kingdome and other areas that lack modern technology.  Another Hip Hop Loves Foundation project that warrants support is the compilation CD to raise money to support the ongoing work in Haiti after the earthquake in January 2010.  Proceeds from album sales will go to Global Syndicate and to the Hip Hop Loves Foundation for ground relief in Haiti as well as to facilitate workshops. Producers on the project include Hip Hop Loves Co-Founder Siba Giba, and Emmy Award Winning Producer Emmai Alaquiva, DJ Scratch, Pete Rock, Will Tell, and Lee Stone.
