On the show we talk to Michael Bell American actor, voice actor, voice director and animal-rights activist[1] who is most active in voice over roles, known for his youthful voice. He has acted in video games and animated series, including The Transformers, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, The Houndcats, Rugrats, The Smurfs, and Snorks and appeared on-screen in film and television, including the TV programs Dallas and Star Trek. Bell was described as being "one of the most prominent voice actors of the 1980s." Both Bell's wife, Victoria Carroll, and his daughter, Ashley Bell, are actresses Marvel Giving Away Free Black Panther Comics to Celebrate Black History Month Last week, Disney returned Marvel Studios’ Black Panther to more than 250 AMC theaters for free screenings in celebration of Black History Month. The company also made a $1.5 million donation the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). “Black Panther is groundbreaking for many reasons, including the rich diversity of voices behind its success,” Disney CEO Bob Iger said in a statement. “The story also showcases the power of knowledge to change the world for the better, and the importance of ensuring everyone has access to it. We’re proud to provide thousands of free screenings of Black Panther in hopes it will continue to inspire audiences, and to support UNCF with a $1.5 million grant to make the dream of higher education a reality for more students.” The Ryan Coogler-directed blockbuster was the first Marvel Studios film to be helmed by a black director and feature a predominantly black cast. Black Panther went on to be crowned the highest-grossing domestic performer of 2018 with $700 million earned domestically; worldwide, the groundbreaking film won $1.3 billion to become the ninth highest-grossing film of all time.2 WHY DIDN’T CHEWY GET A MEDAL? Well, that ends today. It appears this was settled long ago, but George Lucas himself. Back in 1977, Lucas recorded some character spots, and one of them explained the issue with Chewie being denied a medal for his service. You can check out what Lucas had to say about it below. “Chewbacca wasn’t given a medal because medals don’t really mean much to Wookiees. They don’t really put too much credence in them. They have different kinds of ceremonies. The Wookiee Chewbacca was in fact given a great prize and honor during a ceremony with his own people. The whole contingent from the Rebel Alliance went to Chewbacca’s people and participated in a very large celebration. It was an honor for the entire Wookiee race.” Well their you go! Its cast was awarded the highest honor at the 2019 Screen Actors Guild Awards, where stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o and others accepted the prize for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Black Panther also made history as the first superhero film to be nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award. Coogler is now developing a sequel, expected to announce its release date sometime after Avengers: Endgame opens April 26.

Marvel Studios’ Black Panther has done more than flex international box-office muscle while earning critical raves at home and overseas. The superhero blockbuster also has shaken up Hollywood’s long-held myth that big-budget popcorn flicks about black people, with largely black casts, couldn’t pull in crowds in places like Asia, Russia, the African continent—or even white American audiences. Despite the proven crossover appeal of movies like Beverly Hills Cop and The Color Purple, and the global fan base of stars like Will Smith, Angela Bassett, Denzel Washington, and Samuel Jackson, the major studios too often confined black talent to a celluloid ghetto of stereotyped storylines and clichéd characters. But writer-director Ryan Coogler’s film has become not only one of the highest-grossing movies of all time, across all audiences, but also a significant cultural event, inspiring storytellers of many different types and sparking debate among activists and scholars about the politics of its underlying themes and messages. What will be the long-term impact of this phenomenon? Is this just old school commercialism with a new face, a tectonic shift in cultural representation and opportunity, a one-time aberration, or something else? Black Panther executive producer Nate Moore, UCLA Dean of Social Sciences and author of UCLA’s Hollywood Diversity Report Darnell Hunt, Duke cultural historian and host of the webcast Left of Black Mark Anthony Neal, and Afrofuturist novelist and screenwriter Tananarive Due discussed the film and these questions in a Zócalo/UCLA event titled “Will ‘Black Panther’ Really Change Hollywood?” at the ArcLight Hollywood.
