The story of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever emerged out of the very real death of Chadwick Boseman, the actor who played T'Challa. But there was an earlier version of the script, a different story written when no one involved in the movie knew that Chadwick was gravely ill. Ta-Nehisi Coates is joined by director and co-writer Ryan Coogler and co-writer Joe Robert Cole to discuss the original screenplay, the changes they needed to make, what makes a Black Panther film, and their special collaboration on both movies. Ta-Nehisi also talks to producers Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, and Nate Moore, Executive of Production and Development, to learn about the 22-year journey to bring Black Panther to the screen and what excites them about Namor, comic book storytelling, and making movies. Wakanda Forever: The Official Black Panther Podcast is a production of Proximity Media in collaboration with Marvel Studios and Marvel Entertainment. The series is written and hosted by Ta-Nehisi Coates. Produced by Paola Mardo. Executive Producers are Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian, and Paola Mardo. During an interview with TheWrap, Wakanda Forever producer Nate Moore discussed the legal issues standing in the way of Disney and Marvel Studios producing a Namor solo film. Like the Hulk, Namor is still controlled by Universal, and has essentially been "borrowed" by Marvel Studios. In the MCU, Namor can appear in team-up films and the like, but cannot star in a solo movie. Namor also cannot appear by himself in promotional material, with the only exception being for a character poster that's released as part of a larger series of posters. MCU – MARVEL STUDIOS NEWS Marvel Studios Develops Ideas on a 'Not-So-Secret' Retreat https://www.cbr.com/marvel-studios-secret-retreat-mcu/ Marvel Studios producer Nate Moore has pulled back the curtain of the company's creative process ever so slightly, dishing on an occasional retreat held for key personnel. During an appearance on The Town podcast, the producer of films such as Black Panther and Captain America shared that the "not-so-secret retreat," held at Palm Springs "every year or two," is where top executives discuss ideas and aspirations for major films made by the studio. While studio boss Kevin Feige has discussed them previously, Moore has shed some new light over what goes on behind closed doors. "We just talk about interesting characters or stories we'd love to tell or,‘Hey, if we could do anything we wanted, what would it be? Who would it be? What characters haven't we used that we're passionate about?'" Moore explained. The retreat typically leads to one or two major "tent poles" that are then further discussed. In fact, Moore revealed that the concept of the Multiverse and building Phase 1 around the Infinity Gauntlet were all products of ideation at the retreat. He also shared that working together on such massive ideas is made easier since they have "50+ years of material to pull from." Despite an "overwhelming" number of ideas that are shared at the retreat, the most passionate individuals work on bringing these ambitious projects to life. Delving deeper into the workings of the retreat, Moore also highlighted how characters are created and the importance of an executive becoming an expert on a specific character once they're given the go-ahead. "For instance," Moore said, when I was put on Captain America 2, literally reading every appearance of Captain America in publishing. It takes about, I would say about 3 to 4 months." Creatives often have to go through archives of Marvel content after an idea is pitched at the retreat. During this process, they also begin building an "internal document" that makes note of the most compelling characters and their stories. Moore shared the process of his research for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, explaining that it gave him the opportunity to encounter "characters that are really great, moments that are really great, cool facts that you maybe don't know off the surface or off a Wikipedia entry." This in-depth research is also crucial because it gives creatives a chance to filter out problematic content in the comics and tweak it for the big screen while simultaneously coming away with "a document that's a little bit indicative of what we think the movie could be." Once executives do their homework, the ideas are fleshed out and the pitch is then broken down and rebuilt and eventually translated into the blockbuster films that we watch onscreen. Chris Hemsworth Explains Why He Hasn't Watched Tom Hiddleston's Loki https://www.cbr.com/chris-hemsworth-mcu-watchlist-not-up-to-date/ Actor Chris Hemsworth has played an integral role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Thor. The franchise star recently revealed, however, that he isn't quite up-to-date on all of the expansive franchise's films and Disney+ shows. Speaking to Josh Horowitz on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Hemsworth stated outright that he was unable to keep up with everything Marvel Studios has had to offer. He only recently caught an episode of the Loki series. When asked if he hadn't seen the entire show yet, the MCU star explained, "I've got three kids and… I'm off gallivanting around the place… No, I haven't watched anything. It's not because I don't want to. I just haven't had time." Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 3 trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3V5KDHRQvk X-Men's James McAvoy Addresses Rumored MCU Return as Xavier https://www.cbr.com/x-men-james-mcavoy-return-secret-wars-responds/ Former X-Men star James McAvoy has debunked rumors that he will be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Professor Charles Xavier. In an interview with GQ, the actor stated that he had no desire to join the MCU even as his former X-Men co-stars join the franchise. "I'm very quick to say, 'No, I'm done.' Or 'I'm not that bothered about coming back.' Because you move forward," McAvoy said, who also addressed rumors that Marvel Studios had asked him to return for Avengers: Secret Wars. "I've definitely not got the call. And if I did I would definitely not be telling you." OUTRO AND BONUS AUDIO [1:19:39] We would love to hear back from you! Episode 20 - Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Movie Review This week we both took a trip out to our local theaters, and saw Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on its record-breaking opening weekend. Few sequels have ever faced so daunting a challenge as this film, as the loss of Chadwick Boseman to cancer two years ago left a hole that for a long time it seemed would be impossible to continue on without. How did they do, both in terms of honoring Boseman and in terms of making a movie worthy of his memory. We'll talk about it, the short answer is pretty well. Pretty damn well indeed. Since 2018 when Black Panther, the first film by director Ryan Coogler about the king and protector of Wakanda - a fictional sovereign nation in Africa - premiered, fans around the world were excited to see what the sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever would be about, and we were not disappointed. LaNeysha and I were joined by our friend, and fellow podcaster and film critic Kate Sánchez, to chat about everything that we loved, and didn't quite love about this new enter into the MCU.Not only were audiences treated to seeing some of their favorite characters like Okoye (Danai Gurira), M'Baku (Wintson Duke), and the regal Queen Ramonda portrayed by the one and only Angela Basset once again, we were introduced to Namor - played brilliantly by Indigenous Mexican actor Tenoch Huerta Mejía -, the leader of Talokan, a nation of Mayan Mesoamerican people, who like Wakanda had been living hundreds of years, away from the colonialist eyes and threat of Western imperialism. But unlike Wakanda, the Talokan are all too familiar with the destructive presence of colonialism and slavery, which plays a major part in their story, and the film's plot.Though we were all excited to see just how Ryan, co-writer Joe Robert Cole, costume designer Ruth Carter, production designer Hannah Beachler, and the production teams came together to craft this visually stunning story, there's no denying that many were apprehensive about how the grief over the loss of actor Chadwick Boseman would be portrayed on screen. Having played T'Challa for a number of years since his introduction into the MCU, Chadwick has been viewed as thee T'Challa, and having as prolific and impactful career as he did, his lost was felt acutely by the cast, crew and fans in the Black diaspora. With this seemingly impossible task Ryan Coogler created a film that is both beautiful and incredibly poignant. In this first episode of out special Wakanda Forever, recap, we share how we related to all these aspects of the film, what they mean to us personally, and how somethings in the film don't quite work narratively, or technically with regards to some of the acting. You can follow myself, LaNeysha, and Kate on social media at: @CarrieCnh12, @NeyshaPlays, and @OhMyMithrandir Hosted on Acast. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is a 2022 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Black Panther. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the sequel to Black Panther (2018) and the 30th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Directed by Ryan Coogler, who co-wrote the screenplay with Joe Robert Cole, the film stars Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Tenoch Huerta Mejía, Martin Freeman, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Angela Bassett. In the film, the leaders of Wakanda fight to protect their nation in the wake of King T'Challa's death. Ideas for a sequel began after the release of Black Panther in February 2018. Coogler negotiated to return as director in the following months, and Marvel Studios officially confirmed the sequel's development in mid-2019. Plans for the film changed in August 2020 when Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman died from colon cancer, with Marvel choosing not to recast his role of T'Challa. Other main cast members from the first film were confirmed to return by that November, and the title was announced in May 2021. Production initially took place from late June to early November 2021, in Atlanta and Brunswick, Georgia, as well as around Massachusetts, before a hiatus to allow Wright to recover from an injury sustained during filming. Production resumed by mid-January 2022 and wrapped in late March in Puerto Rico. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever premiered at the El Capitan Theatre and the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on October 26, 2022, and was released in the United States on November 11, 2022, as the final film in Phase Four of the MCU. The film received positive reviews from critics, who praised the cast's performances (particularly Wright's, Huerta's, and Bassett's), emotional weight, Coogler's direction, action sequences, musical score, and tribute to Boseman. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/popcorn-junkies/message

Black Panther is the eighteen installment in the blockbuster Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only that, but it's one of the most popular of the vast bunch. It is also deeply interested in the Black experience, in the persistence of racial injustice and imperialism - and what else a superhero might do to make the world a better place beyond punching guys in the face… Batman, I hope you're taking notes…In Black Panther, T'Challa is crowned king of Wakanda following his father's death, but he is challenged by Killmonger who plans to abandon the country's isolationist policies and begin a global revolution. The film was directed by Ryan Coogler, who co-wrote the screenplay with Joe Robert Cole, and it stars Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa/Black Panther alongside Michael B. Jordan and Lupita Nyong'o. The only thing Oliver knew about this one was that it featured a killer soundtrack by Kendrick Lamar, and that in a shockingly weird coincidence, the same actor playing the titular character in this movie, also appeared in 'Captain America: Civil War' as separate character also named The Black Panther. We also check out the list of movies coming in 2018 to decide what we're excited for, what we're going to give a pass on, and what will surely disappoint us. Hope you enjoy!
Tucker belts The Star-Spangled Banner, Alex needs his TV time, and Ryan still owns a Zune…? Then, Marvel Studios' Black Panther screenwriter Joe Robert Cole joins to chat about how he brought The King of Wakanda to the big screen.
A conversation with screenwriter Joe Robert Cole on his work for the NEW FX miniseries The People V. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.

With the third Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. season underway we get to see all of the cast back on the show and Stargate Pioneer and Haley run down the awesome episode. Agent Lauren finds herself once again on special assignment. In fact, they find it hard pressed to decide which season 3 episode is their favorite one so far! There’s a full house in the Comic Book section this time with Black Adam and Neil being joined by Comic Book segment rookie Lauren. And as always the hosts also take time to discuss the week in Marvel news and review all the awesome Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D. feedback. EPISODE "Purpose In The Machine" [4:29] Stargate Pioneer is reminded to not ever ask Haley to start at the beginning, because she is a completionist and will start way farther back than you really should. But once that is taken care of the two speculate on if all the people from the 1800’s actually survived or not. And Dr. Gardener went from minor character to major Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. force in season 3 – even after screwing up Maui. What exactly is Ward’s play going to be with Von Strucker Jr? It’s nice to see Fitz mostly capable again and how open he is with wanting to be with Simmons. Was Elliot Randolph (played by Peter MacNicol) really the best choice to figure out the Monolith? Where’s Jane Foster? Or Thor or any of his crowd? Where is all of Coulson’s funding coming from? Everyone loves Mack’s nickname for Daisy – Tremors. Haley and Stargate Pioneer figure out a better way to use a yacht than von Strucker Jr.. EVERYONE is also excited for the Secret Warriors and Daisy being the leader she is. May’s figure skating past starts to explain everything. While we will continue to call the plane The Bus, Zepher One just isn’t a fair replacement for S.H.I.E.L.D. 616 and we respectfully request Marvel change the Zepher One call sign to S.H.I.E.L.D. 1610.
