From the outside, Chrissy Metz seemed to have it all starring in a hit show, inspiring millions, and radiating confidence but behind the spotlight was a woman navigating the painful realities of childhood trauma, body image struggles, people-pleasing, and the long road to emotional healing. In this heartfelt conversation, Chrissy opens up about the survival patterns she developed as a young girl trying to be “good” enough to be loved and how those patterns followed her into adulthood. She shares her experience growing up in a fractured home, enduring emotional pain in silence, and turning to food as both comfort and protection. Through therapy, spiritual grounding, and creative expression, Chrissy began the deep work of untangling her worth from performance. We explore the cost of being the peacemaker, the fear of being truly seen, and the challenge of letting go of perfection. Chrissy reflects on her journey into acting, the power of being chosen for a role that mirrored her own struggles, and how her latest children's book is helping the next generation talk about emotions that many of us were taught to suppress. This is an honest, soul-stirring episode about the courage it takes to stop performing and start healing from the inside out.__________________Follow/Watch/Listen/Subscribe: Instagram: @rootedrecoverystoriesTiktok: @patrickcusterprojectYouTube: @rootedrecoverystoriesFacebook: @rootedrecoverystoriesWebsite: www.rootedrecoverystories.com__________________Cast:Patrick Custer - HostInstagram: @thepatrickcusterTiktok: @thepatrickcusterYouTube: @thepatrickcusterFacebook: @thepatrickcusterWebsite: https://linktr.ee/patrickcusterChrissy Metz - GuestInsta: @chrissymetzFacebook: @chrissymetzofficialYoutube: @chrissymetzmusic Tiktok: @chrissymetzX: @chrissymetzWebsite: www.chrissymetzmusic.comSpotify: Chrissy Metz__________________Get Help (addiction, mental health/trauma):Promises Behavioral HealthCall: (888) 648-4098Website: www.promises.comInstagram: @promises_bh__________________About Chrissy Metz: Emmy and two-time Golden Globe nominee Chrissy Metz stars on the award-winning NBC series "This Is Us,” winner of the 2018 and 2019 SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series and People's Choice Award for "Favorite New TV Drama.” Chrissy recently starred as Joyce Smith in the hit 20th Century Fox faith-based film, BREAKTHROUGH. On Prophecy Radio episode #132, Karen and Kristen discuss the final two chapters of Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods! They also talk about the brand new Nico di Angelo novel, The Court of the Dead. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:06:47) Karen's officiating a wedding, which means you get this episode early! Leah won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Performance by a Youth (for Percy Jackson)! A Touch of Blood by Sajni Patel is out now. The Court of the Dead: A Nico di Angelo Adventure releases in the US and the UK on September 25, 2023. We go through the synopsis and it sounds fantastic. Khadijah Khatib once again did the cover, and we're obsessed with it! We look at the cover pretty closely and see if we can find any clues about the story. The Cosmopolitan interview with Rick and Mark about the new book is a lot of fun. We love that this was Mark's idea and that they keep describing the book as “bonkers.” Will we see Bob and Small Bob again? Could there be a third Nico di Angelo book?? There IS a new character we can expect in Book 2. We also love the three words each of them use to describe this book. Check out Rick's blog for a few more details. We go through all the special editions that Read Riordan announced on their Instagram. Are you planning on getting any of the special editions? Would you spring for more than one? Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:33:03) We kick off our discussion with Chalice of the Gods chapter 34. “Delete, Delete” is the best running joke. Did you remember when the spaghetti situation took place? Is Paul basically Rick? The art of the one-star review is something to be revered. Is Sally's one-star review really a review that Rick got? We're so interested in Sally's book! What genre is it?? Callie once again shows up to share her opinions. The scene where Percy has to write his letter is SO FANTASTIC. We go looking for the recommendation letter we thought we remembered being in one of the special editions and get a surprise. As always, we get into our favorite lines and favorite scenes. Lastly, we jump into chapter 35, “Pretty Much the Best Good-Night Kiss Ever.” Percy gets Annabeth's special smile! Annabeth is very chill about giving out her autograph. It's so interesting that we learned something new about the cap. Annabeth is speechless over the fact that Athena has maybe, sort of, kind of accepted Percy as her boyfriend? We love visions of Percabeth's future! Easy-queasy has a lot of potential. The “I love you” felt significant, but it's not the first time they said it, right? The goodnight kiss through the Iris Message was SO CUTE. Favorite lines and favorite scenes! Feedback (00:00:00) There is no feedback this week! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 133, where we'll review what we've already discussed in The Red Pyramid before we pick it back up again. This episode's hosts are: Karen and Kristen Each episode, Prophecy Radio‘s hosts will discuss any official news coming out of Camp Half-Blood before doing a chapter by chapter reread of Percy Jackson or one of Rick Riordan's other series. The recent developments for the Washington Nationals include the demotion of CJ Abrams to Triple-A Rochester, citing internal reasons rather than performance issues, which will not affect his arbitration status. Manager Martinez expressed hope for Abrams' improvement and emphasized the team's support for him. Meanwhile, MacKenzie Gore delivered an outstanding performance against the Cubs, carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning and leading the Nationals to a 5-1 victory, showcasing his potential as a staff ace. Joey Gallo also made a significant offensive contribution with a three-run homer, providing crucial insurance runs for Gore's pitching. I speak with director Spencer Glover about his experience with Disney as a participant in their coveted Launchpad program. Selected from more than 2000 applicants, the longtime Nashville filmmaker spent a year in the incubator, honing his skills under the auspices of industry execs. The experience culminated in his Disney directorial debut BLACK BELTS, a coming of age Kung Fu story you can watch right now on Disney+. Black Belts went on to win a 2024 NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Performance in a Short Form Series. Prior to the Launchpad experience Spencer created several films focused on stories that blend genre elements and grounded emotional characters. We met somewhere around 2018 when I was working on the web series version of Morse Code and he had just finished his award-winning film Message Read.We talk about the launchpad experience, what was good and bad about it, and discuss the phenomenon known as “industry brain” — how in wake of that extraordinary opportunity Spencer has had to learn to resist the temptation to write or direct what the market says it currently wants. We wax a bit nostalgic for the big budget films we both enjoyed as kids and then Spencer offers his perspective on whether it's necessary to move to LA to elevate your film career. He himself moved for the Launchpad gig with his partner Kariss and has since stayed. Finally we talked about the importance of spending your young years as freely as possible. In that context I share a couple stories from my early twenties, including the time I drove my VW Bus to the end of an unmarked dirt road in southern Utah, hiked eleven miles into the canyon and spent 5 days and nights in the with nothing but a gallon of water and five oranges. Oh to be young. Find Spencer: Website: https://spencerglover.net/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/spenceglover.mov/ Get full access to The Morse Code at korby.substack.com/subscribe

It is a pleasure to welcome multi-instrumentalist, composer, and singer Ezra Grey to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. Ezra is no newcomer to the music industry. He composed, recorded, and toured internationally with numerous bands since he was 15-years-old. Ezra Grey has served as guitarist, bass player, and pianist for countless hip-hop, R&B, rock, heavy metal, classical and jazz bands. He has won awards for his performances (including Downbeat Magazine's Outstanding Performance in Pop/Rock/Blues) and compositions from the American Composers Orchestra. As a vocalist, he has performed at Gracie Mansion (for Mayor Bloomberg), on VH1's Big Morning Buzz, and with Mike Malinin, former drummer of the Goo Goo Dolls. He also has a double degree in music and philosophy from Columbia University. In addition, he has worked with several music industry greats, including Tony Levin, bassist for Peter Gabriel, King Crimson, and former bassist for John Lennon, David Bowie, and Frank Zappa. Ezra is expected to debut his solo extended play, Afterall, for release on February 16, 2024. The EP highlights the artist's evolution as a solo artist, featuring his original compositions from age 15 to the present, all with themes of love, heartbreak, or introspection. Additionally, the EP will showcase Ezra's versatility, weaving together guitar-driven melodies with influences from his touring experiences with metal bands like GAREK, Sinaro, and Etherius. He incorporates in what he calls “deceptively technically difficult guitar arrangements” reminiscent of metal, intertwined with jazz harmonies and hints of Latin and reggae influences. In this edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Ezra Grey spoke about touring with metal bands GAREK, Sinaro, and Etherius. He also previewed the EP and the story behind the single: “Into the Sun.”

Why do we make art? What can the performing arts teach us about how to engage in dialogues to overcome conflict and division? Our guests today are actress Catherine Curtin and artistic director Kate Mueth. Curtin is known for her roles on Stranger Things, Homeland, and Insecure. She played correctional officer Wanda Bell in Orange Is the New Black, and for this role she was a joint winner of two Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.Mueth is the Founder and Artistic Director of the award-winning dance theater company The Neo-Political Cowgirls that seeks to deepen and challenge the ways in which audiences experience stories and awaken their human connection. Based in East Hampton, New York they have performed to audiences in America and Europe."I don't know why we would really want to tell stories without being connected to the meaning. And I think that's especially for women, but I do think for human beings, that is how we can work as hard and be able to get up the next morning and keep going. Because we are working through the meaning, and it feeds us as we're like making sense of it all, trying to make sense of it, and for being in community and communion, if I dare say that, as an ex-Catholic too.Like sharing as a witness what it is to be human and what it means, and through this work, tell our story. So yeah, I feel like it's a bit of a crushing experience, as an industry goes. And I often feel like I'm way flung out to the side in the process of how I do the work versus how the industry wants it done, expects it done, and how the money is made and having it done. And there's an unhappy marriage between art and commerce right now. We've changed as a society, and the internet and AI have changed the world. But I kind of don't care because I get one life that I'm aware of, and I just want to do it in a way that feels good and the art feels true for me." -Kate Muethwww.imdb.com/name/nm0193160/www.npcowgirls.orgwww.creativeprocess.infowww.oneplanetpodcast.orgIG www.instagram.com/creativeprocesspodcast

He was like, empty all those files, get rid of all that research, get rid of all those researchers. I think that clearly, even now, the Trumpers are like, oh, the environment. It was a global warming. You know, we had a global warming problem. Well, we knew that a long time ago. And so one hopes that maybe that is one of the places that AI can improve the human condition. Maybe AI, the statistical data, and the non-emotional data will convince people when there's a problem and take the emotion out of the issue. Because I think that that's one of the reasons why issues don't move forward sometimes is that the emotional impact is too hot. And so maybe just getting it into statistics or getting it into data, or getting it into numbers where people can't really deny the truth of one plus one does equal two, you know?www.imdb.com/name/nm0193160/www.npcowgirls.orgwww.creativeprocess.infowww.oneplanetpodcast.orgIG www.instagram.com/creativeprocesspodcast
"Because I do do enough TV and film. Sometimes the bigger the budget, you know, sometimes... (gestures as though to say 'the quality doesn't always increase'). So, I'm always glad to just relax in the creative process, and I'm always very grateful for that. I think it's why I do so much indie film because it's really fun....The depth of the pain that so many people who are walking the strike right now feel. It's the depth of the pain of the unhappy marriage between art and commerce. It is the depth of the pain of how we've changed as a society and how the internet and AI in the computer world, it has given us so much, but before you used to edit film on a flatbed. And every time you edited, you would make a cut, literally you would take a scissors and you would make a cut. If you made the wrong cut, you had to put the pieces back together, it wasn't a simple little thing. What we've done today is we've made everything so fast and so easy that I think there's something to the creative process about it being a little bit more of an exploration than it is a wham bam, it's done." -Catherine CurtinWhy do we make art?
