In this episode, Ciaran McArdle, CEO of XL Sports World and author of The Soccer of Success, joins Julie Kratz to discuss how the principles of the "beautiful game" can be used to transform corporate leadership. McArdle shares three key strategies for high-performance leadership, drawing parallels between the soccer pitch and the professional workplace: 1. Tailored Leadership: Meet Team Members Where They Are Effective leadership requires a nuanced approach, much like a soccer captain managing a diverse squad. Individualized Communication: McArdle notes that while one teammate may need direct, vocal feedback to improve performance, another might require a quieter, more supportive "arm around the shoulder". Psychological Insight: Leaders must understand the unique psyche of each team member to determine the best way to motivate them and demand their best. 2. The "White Line" Concept: Establish Clear Boundaries In soccer, crossing the white line onto the pitch signifies a complete shift in intensity and mindset. Performance Intensity: While on the "field" (the workplace), teams should maintain high focus and be willing to ask tough questions to drive results. Switching Off: Equally important is crossing back over that line. McArdle emphasizes that once work is done, leaders must normalize stepping away and focusing on recovery to avoid burnout. 3. The 90-Minute Mindset: Protect Deep Work McArdle introduces a "90-minute mindset" for productivity, mirroring the length of a standard soccer match. Distraction-Free Focus: He advocates for scheduling 90 minutes of uninterrupted work—phone on airplane mode and emails closed—to tackle high-impact goals. The "Hattrick of Success": This focus is part of a larger cycle: Plan, Perform, and Recover/Review. Consistent execution in this format allows teams to perform at elite levels without sacrificing long-term mental health. Follow Ciaran McArdle at https://soccerofsuccess.com/.

In this episode of THE Bitcoin Podcast, Walker America talks with Angela McArdle—Chair of the Libertarian Party Mises Caucus and former Chair of the Libertarian National Party—about her path from local civil-liberties activism in Los Angeles to high-level federal political influence, including her pivotal role in negotiating Ross Ulbricht's presidential pardon. Angela outlines her strategy for transforming the Libertarian Party from a spoiler into a “kingmaker” that leverages ballot access and voter blocs to secure policy concessions and cabinet roles from major candidates. She also details her ongoing work to fight escalating “lawfare” against Bitcoin developers—Samurai Wallet, Tornado Cash, Bitcoin Fog, and Ian Freeman—arguing these prosecutions target free speech and financial privacy. The discussion highlights Bitcoin's importance in countering federal overreach, the need to expand Bitcoin adoption across both political tribes (not just the right), and why local political victories are often the most impactful. Angela concludes that individuals must actively take back their freedom—and that a determined 1% of the population can change history. Artificial intelligence could cost many of us our careers — but that doesn't mean we should stop its development, says journalist Megan J. McArdle. As she watches AI encroach on her own craft, she shares a fresh take on the 19th-century Luddites, who tried to destroy machines that would upend their trade. Looking back, McArdle reframes today's fears with a poignant question: If we halt progress to protect the present, what might we be stealing from the future? After the talk, Sherrell highlights how AI might not be replacing human jobs---but creating new ones.Interested in learning more about upcoming TED events? In a few weeks, the Suffolk County Department of Public Works will institute changes in traffic patterns on County Road 39 between North Sea Road and Magee Street in Southampton to test a pared-down version of an experiment run by the county and Southampton Town last spring. Local officials said the plan, as envisioned by Charles McArdle, Southampton Town superintendent of highways, brought marked improvement in travel times for afternoon commuters and eased bypass traffic on residential back roads. This week, the editors are joined by senior reporter Michael Wright and McArdle to talk about how the new plan will work and some of the Southampton road challenges that remain.
