Scott talks to the race director and founder of the Mendocino Coast 50k, Sid Garza-Hillman about the history of the race, his running journey, and the launch of the newest season of the Becoming Ultra Project, Season 16. Si didn't run his first ultra until he was 46. We talk about his life as a musician and actor and why he decided to uproot and more to the northern part of the state. His race sells out fast and running along rivers, redwoods, and ocean probably has something to do with it all. Sid even wrote a book about running ultra's as a normal person which is amazing! We hope you enjoy the conversation and share with a friend that a great opportunity to run their first ultra is now taking applications. Season 16 information The race

In this episode… With the start of a new year, many are excited to dive into their resolutions. However, these resolutions often last for a few months at best, and we end up back in our old habits. So how can we build healthy habits, achieve our personal goals, and create lasting change? According to Sid Garza-Hillman, people often expect a quick fix and want to achieve their goals right away. These quick fixes are not only unrealistic agents of change, but they can lead to burnout and boredom with our once-exciting goals. How do you consistently hit your target goals? Sid's mantra is mind first, body second. He says you shouldn't spend January in the gym or on a diet. You should start the new year off by getting clear on your goals, thinking about your plan of action, and preparing your brain for change. In this episode of the Multiply You Podcast, Austin Clark talks with Sid Garza-Hillman, Founder of Small Steppers, about setting goals and delivering the results you actually want. Sid shares the best practices for creating healthy habits, how he coaches clients through their personal goals, and the importance of taking small steps towards change. Stay tuned to learn how you can successfully attain those New Year's resolutions!

This was such a wonderful podcast to record! Sid lives in California, we did this episode via zoom: 9 am his time- 5 pm my time. Me and Sid met in Edinburgh at the Vegfest around 3 years ago..his holistic approach to health and well-being instantly aligned with my vibe and incredibly, he agreed to come on the podcast!Sid is an author, nutritionist, musician, ultra-runner, podcaster, creator and director of the Mendocino Coast 50K and much more...We talk about all things, from health and wellness to sid's small steps approach, to changing habits long-term. I share my journey to find balance, I talk about Orkney, finding balance with running and my past experiences with extremes... overdoing health, thinking about nutrition and food too much, overworking and hearing for burn out... Something I think about often, pushing our self physical is normalised and often championed in our society.. Running and yoga has been an incredibly positive thing in my life, but for a few years I overworked myself, I used running escape, to distract or to run away from sitting with pain and emotion, just like any activity, we need to try and evaluate our relationship with it.. asking ourselves why are we doing it, if it's adding to our lives and if it's bringing us real joy... Are we drinking to have fun and socialise, or are we numbing our pain and distracting ourselves... With physical activity, I consider now more than ever, ‘Just because something is perceived to healthy doesn't mean we have a healthy relationship with it, and sometimes it can end up having an adverse effect on our lives..Thank you again to Sid for sharing his time, listening to me blether, and imparting wisdom. Sid's Website~ which has easy access to his podcast, youtube books, and updates.Sid's Small Steps ApproachSid's books Approaching the Natural, that we mention in the episode, is one of my favorite books- it takes a holistic, simple approach to health and well-being- considering our physical, mental and spiritual 'needs'. I have gifted this wee book a lot, it is pocket-sized and really worth a wee read- I have a copy- please give me a wee message and we can share...

Sid Garza-Hillman is a Small-Stepper. That may seem insignificant, and that's the point. So many insignificant and small steps, incorporated into you life, make a very significant difference. Sid is the author of Approaching the Natural: A Health Manifesto and Raising Healthy Parents: Small Steps, Less Stress, and a Thriving Family. He graduated from UCLA with a BA in Philosophy, is a public speaker, podcaster (What Sid Thinks Podcast), certified nutritionist, and Small Steps Coach–teaching his unique approach to healthy living at smallsteppers.com. He is the Stanford Inn Eco-Resort's Wellness Programs Director, co-creator with Matt Frazier of Health Made Simple, and Race Director of the sold-out Mendocino Coast 50K trail ultramarathon. Sid and I connected on his path to becoming a small-stepper (what is this anyway?) and nutritionist. His health and wellness approach is truly remarkable. On the podcast we talk about his approach to nutrition and rating the health of foods, solving stress which resolves stress-eating, parenting children in a healthy way, COVID-19, replacing poor habits with healthy habits, little victories, SHOULD-ing on yourself, dealing with overwhelm easily and keeping things fun, the Mendocino 50 kilometer race he organizes, his next book, and..... home roasting coffee! This podcast was a blast. We covered a lot and I hope you guys enjoy this episode! In today’s episode of The Plant Trainers Podcast we talk to Sid Garza-Hillman about raising healthy parents. This is Sid’s fourth appearance on the show, but his second formal interview. As an extension to last week’s podcast, PTP213: A New School Year & New Beginnings, we thought it would be a good idea to visit Sid’s approach to parenting. Did you know there's an all vegan ultramarathon along the coastline of Northern California, directed by friend of NMA Radio Sid Garza-Hillman? Well there is, and Doug ran it last week. In today's episode we chat with Doug about the Mendocino Coast 50K race, what he learned after going in with little training, and why the post-race burrito bar alone was worth the trip.
Once something becomes routine, it’s tough to break. Small Steps does the trick–breaking up your life, making little cracks in your day that lead to new routines, new habits. Also…Gene Baur of Farm Sanctuary makes a quick appearance to talk about his upcoming Mendocino Coast 50K attempt! This will be Gene’s first ultra and anyone ...
Today's episode pretty much goes against everything I've ever said on Trail Talk. It's an interview with Sid Garza-Hillman, race director of the Mendocino Coast 50K and recent North Face Endurance Challenge San Francisco 50K finisher. We talk about his approach to training for and racing in San Francisco, and how it freed up time, energy, and head space to do other things.
Last weekend I ran the Mendocino Coast 50k in California, and had the rare opportunity to get a behind the scenes look at what goes in to putting on such a long race. In today's episode I sit down with the hilarious race director Sid Garza-Hillman, and pick his brain about what it's like to put on a race, what he's learned throughout the process, and how it has changed him as a runner.
