Nora shares her faith journey, her experience coming to Christ in a secularized country, and talks a bit about her experiences with hopelessness and anxiety. She also shares about a few of her faith questions including:    Why does God allow suffering? How does it fit into his plan? How can a God who accepts everyone and forgives sin send some people to hell? If our end goal is heaven, what's the purpose of life? Mental suffering Mental sufferings are becoming more and more widespread, they have many faces and effects, in every age group people are struggling with mental illnesses of all kinds. Depression, disorders, anxiety, gloomy thoughts and sadness fall like shadows on souls, the future becomes more and more a problem. Teenagers develop eating disorders, adults live in aggression, crises and burdens alternate with problems and quarrels, normal life is history, just now the omens are chaos and storm. Then the psyche falls ill much faster than usual, fears and stress restrict the way of life more and more, a sick psyche brings new fears, the cat bites its own tail. An estimated 100 million people in Europe alone suffer from depression, 150 million from various anxiety disorders. According to Buddha, life consists of suffering, at least as long as one has not left the perpetual sequence of suffering, has not yet experienced "enlightenment". Especially among young people the numbers are frightening, every fifth child (or adolescent under the age of twenty) is affected by psychological problems, behavioral problems of all kinds are on the rise, psychological burdens develop into diseases. Clearly, people are mostly without orientation, the old structures are dissolving, the religious teachings that used to dominate everything in this cultural area are losing more and more members, new organizations have their difficulties, the family has lost its significance, the feeling of belonging together is lost in the urban canyons of the modern ghettos. In addition, many of those affected remain silent about their condition out of shame, also no longer see a way out, no longer see the forest for the trees. I, for my part, take the natural remedy "St. John's wort" on days when I have the blues (even with Buddhists, not every day is the same, not everything is always vain bliss and sunshine), if only to give a sign to my "I". Who is once stuck in the spiral of silence of a mental illness, who rarely finds out, the isolation worsens the conditions, the treatment is delayed, more and more often suicide is then a topic, the thoughts circle around more and more gloomy scenarios. A not negligible part of the bad moods are the catastrophic living conditions, alcohol, drugs, nicotine and bad nutrition have a sour effect on the body, the system overacidifies. I know what I am talking about, I was also overacidified in the past, I have reduced the excess acid with Mayrkuren and alkaline powder. The teaching of the teacher of all teachers is about the sufferings, just and especially about the mental impairments, which we (with the time often) inflict on ourselves in our thought palace. In any case, the way is the goal! Birth is suffering, old age is suffering, sickness is suffering, death is suffering, being separated from loved ones is suffering, being united with unloved ones is suffering, not attaining what one desires is suffering, grief, sorrow, pain, grief and despair are suffering. - Buddha - honorary name of Siddharta Gautama - 560 to 480 Copyright: https://shaolin-rainer.de (Please also download my app "Buddha-Blog English" from the Apple and Android stores)

About Capture: Unraveling the Mystery of Mental SufferingWhy do we think, feel, and act in ways we wished we did not? For decades, New York Times bestselling author Dr. David A Kessler has studied this question with regard to tobacco, food, and drugs. Over the course of these investigations, he identified one underlying mechanism common to a broad range of human suffering. This phenomenon—capture—is the process by which our attention is hijacked and our brains commandeered by forces outside our control. This is a public episode. We like to think there's a vent for releasing all of our pent-up frustrations—to reset back to zero. That'd be nice, but in the real world, releasing misery tends to feed more misery. What are we paying attention to? We feed what we put our energy into, and in putting our energy into suffering, we only remind ourselves of the things we wish to forget. Captured in a vicious feedback loop. This is what neuroscientists say. But there's an old Chinese proverb that says it even better: “The fire you kindle for your enemy often burns you more than him.” This proverb summarizes around ten hours of reading I had just done. I recorded and deleted several versions of this show, trying to figure out how best to express all the science I had collected on good mental health. But I was overcomplicating things. Facts and figures are impressive for a day but fleeting. After a while, no one remembers. But stories are built into our DNA. We can recall most fables and parables that we've heard, even if they're from our early youth. History, actual events, they're quickly forgotten. But legends last for thousands of years. Why are religions so powerful? More so than the factors that led to World War I? More so than recent history? Because religions are shared through stories. I remember very few factoids and graphs from high school, but mythology, I remember. Better than any expository essay I could write on mental health is an old Cherokee parable called The Two Wolves. Like many classical stories, its clarity and timelessness come from the use of animal symbology. However, like it's namesake, there are two versions of this story. And, I'll be telling you both... I: One M.D.’s Inward Journey to Liberate Himself from Mental Suffering – Dr. Jeffrey FidelAired Sunday, 13 November 2016, 10:00 PM ETDr. Jeffery provides insight into his story and how he used the ancient teachings of Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching, to connect to a voice originating from his heart, the “voice within” that teaches our true identity is “beyond thought” and that we and the universe are I(One)…Jeffrey relates how he spent most of his life identifying with the I that was the I in his mind-the one that said he must achieve to exist…the one that drove him to become a doctor in order to meet other people’s expectations despite a part of him that resisted; the one that said he would be happy if he lived the “American dream” of exalted professional, family man and financial success. This was the “I” of his ego.Yet, he was miserable and the critical voices in his head kept getting louder, driving him to seek a psychiatrist. And when they reached a crescendo, Jeffrey was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 Disorder and placed on antipsychotic drugs.Feeling numbed by his “chemical lobotomy” he continued to “fit into” society as an individual and practicing physician. Yet, nothing in his life was right-his marriage was falling apart, he still had an inner struggle that he didn’t want to practice medicine, and even his beloved dog died.Through many ups and downs and searching, he came to the Tao Te Ching. It spoke to him and awakened his awareness that there was another voice, a quiet one that spoke truth to him, a voice that connected him to all that is. Then, he knew that he was not his Mind, he was his energetic essence, something unknowable and unlimited. When, though a year of deep solitude, he became convinced following this voice was the real path to a life of mental and emotional freedom, he tapered off his meds, quit his medical practice and focused on living the life directed by that inner voice.Today, Jeffrey lives a contented, complete, humble and drug-free life in Florida-living in the present moment-and spreading the word for others who have been diagnosed as depressed, mentally ill or Bipolar that he has found another way to end mental suffering. As he tells his story, he is an inspiration to others that listening to the “one voice that counts” may provide a different path to peace and a new way to live.
