Roberto Vally's accomplishments within music date back to his formidable years in New York where he was awarded his Junior High School's Music Honor Award. It was clear that Roberto was destined to pursue an education in music. From 1974-1978 he attended New York City's legendary High School of Music and Art-depicted in Fame (1980 film). Continuing his education in music theory and classical bass he attended the highly acclaimed Julliard School from 1976-1978. There, most notably, he was mentored by the prominent professor and classical bassist, Homer Mensch. Roberto loved every minute of his bass education, but the “itch” to perform and take his bass skills on the road eventually took hold of him. In 1979 he auditioned for a show band that toured in the US and Canada, and off he went! His ferocious playing and charismatic stage presence were extraordinary. There was no stopping him. His skills and thirst for fun and adventure brought him overseas to France, where he not only gigged, but mastered surfing and skiing. Perhaps unbeknownst to him at the time, in the midst of his playing on stage, on slopes and on surf boards, Roberto was building a remarkable set of diverse “chops” that come only with countless live stage experiences. Years of honing live performance skills really paid off when he auditioned with Spyro Gyra. Thru 1987 and 1988 Roberto toured and recorded with Spyro Gyra, performing in over 150 concerts in the US and around the world. With Spyro Gyra he recorded “Stories Without Words”, which is to date, one of the group's most popular albums. Touring continued for Roberto in 1990 when he joined Michael Franks on his Blue Pacific Tour-once again taking him on tour worldwide.Westward bound. While Roberto was on tour with Michael Franks he took a leap of faith and invited Bobby Caldwell to one of the California shows with Michael, and as fate would have it, Bobby showed up and immediately asked Roberto to join his band. So in 1991, he moved to Los Angeles and started rehearsing with Bobby, To date, Roberto is playing with Bobby for an astonishing 29 year tenure! In 1993 he took stage with Randy Crawford as her bassist, but his adept demeanor and impressive musicality led Randy to appoint him as Musical Director where he headed tours encompassing the US, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia for over 15+ years.Since moving to Los Angeles, Roberto has performed and/or recorded with the following artists: George Benson, Christopher Cross, Jeffrey Osborne, Bob James, Al Jareau, Hillary Duff, Diane Schuur, David Benoit, Boz Scaggs, Kirk Whalum, Bobby Caldwell, Patti Austin, Arturo Sandoval, Larry Carlton, Marion Meadows, Jeff Golub, Peter White, Norman Brown, Paul Brown, Boney James, Ric Braun, Michael Lington, Richard Elliot, Joan Sebastian, Johnny Rivers, Euge Groove, Eric Darius, Anna Barbara, Alvaro Torres, Los Trio, Ricardo Arjona, Nils, Banda Blanca and more.-Get FeaturedLemur MusicSMILE - Ryan Roberts Street-Artsemble Instagram / Twitter / Youtube / Website / BSA/ View More Episodes

Carl interviews Danish-born saxophonist Michael Lington, a multi-talented musician and entrepreneur. Michael shares his passion for music and his journey from playing the clarinet at age 7 to releasing his first album in 1997. Michael's music has made it to the charts 25 times, and he is a serial entrepreneur running a record label, wine company and cigar company. With an impressive career that spans decades, including success with his hit single, "Soul Appeal," spending 16 weeks at number one on the Billboard chart, Michael creates music that elevates certain genres while still considering commercial appeal.Discover Michael's policy of following his internal barometer when it comes to creating music, his love for jazz and funk music, and his latest album, "Looking Ahead," which was created during a period of intense personal changes for him. Plus, hear how his passion extends into Italian and French cuisine, as well as James Bond movies. You won't want to miss this unique conversation with the inspiring Michael Lington. Tune in now!Episode Highlights12:05 - I've been lucky because I had people approach me to partner with them on my own line of cigars and wine. So, it wasn't like I one day woke up saying, "Let me start a wine." They said, "Hey, I know you have a cigar company. How great would it be if you had a line of wines?" 24:35 - When I was younger, I enjoyed the travel part more because you're getting on an airplane, you're on tour, it feels very legit. I think you get older, the early mornings, the layovers in the airports, the missed planes, the checking in at 12:30 at night into a hotel in the middle of nowhere, and sleeping at different – it's not that exciting, the travel part. And then you go to the gig, and as we talked about, you walk in and everybody, "Yeah!" Great! It's totally worth it. 59:21 - Study, craft, figure out what you want to do, and then be really good at it. In the process of that, be nice, be courteous to everyone. Get your studies and get your education, and you can always pursue what you want. ContactFresh Coast Jazz FestivalMichael Lington

Hey There, Friends! This week we chat with our new cousin Marcus Johnson, an independent Billboard-ranked musician, NAACP Image Award nominee, owner of FLO Brands and FLO Wine, JD and MBA, philanthropist, father, friend... and so much more! What is FLO (For the Love Of)? It represents the journey through which we discover those things in life that fulfill us and make each experience a little better. For the love of life, self, happiness, passion, joy…love itself. While pursuing his JD and MBA at Georgetown, he independently produced and distributed his first CD (Lessons in Love), which sold more than 40,000 units; a phenomenal success for an unknown independent artist's debut release. This album helped him launch his career as a renowned jazz keyboardist/pianist, and later, he released his second CD (Inter Alia), with staggering success This success caught the attention of Black Entertainment Television (BET) founder and businessman Robert L. Johnson, who invested and partnered with Marcus to establish Marimelj Entertainment Group. Under their partnership, MEG's label Three Keys Music housed Studio 8121, a full-service recording studio, and two music publishing companies: Marimelj Music Publishing and Three Keys Music Publishing. As head of Three Keys Music, Johnson produced and released on the Three Keys Music label national jazz artists: Michael Lington, Jaared Arosemena, Bobby Lyle, Nick Colionne, R&B singer, Alyson Williams, neo-soul songstress, Zahzarah; and smooth jazz Saxophonists Phillip Martin and Brian Lenair. To date, Marcus has released more than fifteen Billboard charted CDs, and has the distinction of having his groundbreaking 2008 Billboard Top 20 Contemporary Jazz FLO (For the Love Of) Anthology, which consisted of three distinct CDs -- FLO Chill, FLO Romance and FLO Standards - all chart Top 10 on Billboard Contemporary Jazz Charts simultaneously. The release of Poetically Justified (2009) and This is How I Rock (2011), which were Top 20 Contemporary Jazz CDs, solidified Marcus Johnson as the heir apparent to the funky urban groove music style and sound made famous by legendary jazz greats, George Duke and Herbie Hancock. FLO Wines FLO {for the love of...} represents the journey through which we discover those things in life that fulfill us and make each experience a little better; for the love of life, self, happiness, passion, joy…love itself. FLO Wine is but one expression. Named a top 10 Celebrity Wine by USA Today. Marcus Johnson's Sips & Sounds are uniquely curated tasting experiences featuring sips from Flo Wine; varietals Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and our new Rosé, and Jazz sounds by Marcus Johnson with a special music set customized to the region/location we're in. The Sips + Sounds tasting experience strives to go “Behind the Apron” with collaborations highlighting diverse/minority-owned catering companies and/ or chefs that create exclusive culinary pairings with Flo Wine. ROSÉ The Rosé gives bright, floral aromas of lilac and rose petal with flavors of fresh strawberry and raspberry on the palate. It is light in body with refreshing acidity and a crisp, clean finish. CHARDONNAY The Chardonnay uses minimal oak, allowing the bright fruit to take center stage. Well-balanced, it offers Lemon and citrus notes with a hint of green apple. Flavors of tropical fruit, baked fig and vanilla with buttery overtones on the finish. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/therosehourpodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/therosehourpodcast/support

I first met Darryl Williams but didn't get a chance to play with him. But then we played together on a Michael Lington gig and wow, did we have a blast! Darryl is a Career Musician in every sense of the term. We caught up after that first gig we played together over some grub in Vegas. So please forgive the background noise as it's well worth the info that he shares regarding how he went about pursuing his solo career and getting radio play for his songs which are now chart toppers!https://darrylwilliamsmusic.com/@thecareermusician@nomadsplace
