We're talking to Garry Wilkinson on this week's episode of the V8 Sleuth Podcast polished by Bowden's Own. ‘Wilko' was a core part of Channel 7's coverage of touring car racing from the late 1970s through the late 1990s, and his voice is the soundtrack on several iconic moments throughout the sport's history. In the second and final part of our two-part chat, he talks more about the late Mike Raymond and how his impact on touring car racing's TV coverage went well beyond his commentary, what it was like in the battlefield that was the Bathurst 1000 winner's podium ceremony, and his thoughts and insight into the ‘Battle for Bathurst' between V8 Supercars and the ARDC/Channel 7 in the mid-1990s. He also shares stories from some of his other ‘combat missions' during his time at Channel 7, including commentating and hosting the Olympic Games coverage, and opens up about his sudden and unexpected exit from the network. He also tackles your National Motor Racing Museum Couch Racer Questions, which turned up some great tales - including his drive of a future Supercars legend's Formula Ford! The High Country features dozens of businesses that have a unique approach that is central to their company DNA. These are the special traits that make these businesses magnets, for visitors and locals alike, who may be on the hunt for something new in the marketplace. While the core elements of these unique businesses will always remain visible, the most successful companies have found ways to enhance their products and offerings, while not straying far away from what made them attractive destinations in the first place. On this week's episode of Mind Your Business, we talk with Mike Raymond, the newly named General Manager of Appalachian FC. We'll hear about how the franchise continues to play into their unique identity that has made them one of the most popular start-up franchises in US Soccer. We'll also get insight on how the leadership of the franchise intends to take a mix of last year's success and this year's opportunity, and create an enhanced product that still features some of the traits that initially made them so enticing to players and spectators.Mind Your Business is produced weekly by the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce. The program can be heard each Thursday morning at 10:05 on WATA Radio (1450AM/96.5FM).The podcast version of the program is presented each week by Appalachian Commercial Real Estate.Support the show

I'm honoured to have NRL / MMA / Boxing / Motorsports Journalist and Commentator Andy Raymond on the show. Andy for 23 years has been the voice of Rugby League, Big Time Boxing, Pay Per Views, Main events on Fox Sports Australia. Born in Sydney, Andy would go with his father, the great Mike Raymond to the Liverpool Speedway where his dad was the promoter/ commentator. Andy got his first break with Channel 7's motor sports team as a pit reporter. From 2002 to 2005 Andy was the promoter of the Australian Wrestling Super show. @1andy_raymond Here we spoke about why he is not with Fox Sports NRL this season?, Playing against Brad Fitler, His Wikipedia account?, The legacy of his father Mike Raymond, Big Time Boxing, the state of Australian boxing, Cam Smith/ Jonathon Thurston's testimonial, Interviewing WWE Owner Vince McMahon, the controversy surrounding Andy hearing Ivan Cleary speaking to the referee at half time, Anthony Mundine and a whole bunch of road stories. https://tellcraigyourstory.podbean.com https://linktr.ee/tellcraigyourstory tellcraigyourstory@hotmail.com @tellcraigyourstory Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcCr6P3Ja395SkapnECvOFw?view_as=subscriber #andyraymond #tellcraigyourstory #foxsports #NRL #rugbyleague #FoxsportsNRL #journalist #commentator #sidelineeye #NRL360 #thefootyshow #mainevent #PPV #mikeraymond #pitreporter #australianboxing #WWE #vincemcmahon #anthonymundine #bradfitler #stevewalters #cameronsmith #sydney #australia #MMA #superleague

Some have romantic memories of old Holdens: Terry Thompson is ever the realist but loves them all the same. Terry Thompson is a director of the ARDC, and has a long history in many things to do with cars and motoring, including the New South Wales Road Safety Advisory Council and a whole pile of motoring clubs, including the 48 and FJ. Holden Owners Club. We chatted to him about the history. You can listen to the interview here Terry has been the owner of a number of old Holdens including a couple of sedans and a panel van. When he used to take them down the street, he said a common response was "Hey mate I had one of these It was the best bloody car I've ever had" to which he would screw up my nose and think “Oh, my God. What have you been driving since you got there?”. I asked him as delicately as possible what he use to use the panel van for, was it similar to the types of things we did in later, larger, versions of this sort of car. I was thinking of going camping or the like. He noted that there use to be a sticker on the back of panel vans and utes that said “Yes. This is my ute and no, I'm not helping you move”. While the first Holden came off the production line nearly seventy-two years ago there are still a considerable number of car clubs dedicated to the early models. Terry noted that some are for the keeping the purity of the original cars including things like vacuum run windscreen wipers while others were not adverse to some modern electrics and other features on the old cars. The encouraging point he made that these car clubs are not just a bunch of old men. He said: “A whole new tribe of younger people coming in to take over the cars and look after them”. One of the great features of the early Holdens was “three on the tree”. These were the manual models with a column change and three forward gears. Terry took one of his to the Bathurst races one year and let radio and television personality Clive Robinson drive it around the track. Actually Clive only drove it the very last section down Conrod Straight because he didn't know how to drive a manual. Mike Raymond, the track commentator at the time said that he thought Terry was a very brave man.
When it comes to Wine, Terroir is talked about and widely accepted. Distilled spirits have adopted the term but is there any weight to this or is it just arbitrary marketing gobbledygook and sales gibberish meant to entice the consumer. The Philadelphia Phillies season is all but over with only a few games remaining on their schedule, and it was disappointing for fans and the organization to say the very least. However, we're now going to start looking toward 2020 and the future. This week, John Stolnis, writer and contributor at TheGoodPhight.com and host of the Hittin' Season podcast, joined us to discuss where this Phillies organization, team and fan base goes from here. It's a great interview with John as always. But first, we got into some listener feedback about bandwagon fans in sports. (approx. 6:45)We then Jeff and Mike Raymond from Fox Sports Radio of the Lehigh Valley talked about this Penn State season and what we're seeing on offense and defense early on. (approx. 11:30)From there, we talked about this very rough Eagles early season, and our thoughts on the coming game against the Green Bay Packers. (approx. 20:00)We then discussed how Alain Vigneault is getting his team prepared with a new coaching philosophy during the Flyers preseason. (approx. 25:55)This week on the Highbrow Segment, we talked about how NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is seemingly attempting to clamp down on tampering throughout the league. Will his efforts work now and into the future? (approx. 31:10)Then on the Lowbrow Segment, the guys gave their top-3 all-time worst sports gimmicks from fans in the stands. (approx. 39:55)What we're throwing down on the Table this week is an interview with friend of the show John Stolnis about this lackluster and disappointing Phillies team. The season is about to close, and many of us are already looking toward the offseason and what moves the Phillies front office may or may not make. Who should be targeted in the coming months to help with pitching? Will J.T. Realmuto be re-signed by the team? When might Alec Bohm be a consistent contributor in the future? All of this and much more Phillies talk this week on the Table! (approx. 51:00)

In the two hour interview we had last week, Mike Raymond and I talked about many topics important to the bartending community. Health and wellness, trends, the fundamentals of the 3rd space... One of those that was of particular to me was the process by which someone finds a space and gets on the same page with their business partner to 'make it happen!' Mike shares with me how he ended up opening his second bar, The Cottonmouth, in an area of downtown that is...developing. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/openbar/support

Starting a business is a lot of work, but opening a bar or restaurant, in my opinion, is much more difficult. Places, where you eat and drink, have to make you feel a certain way and that has everything to do with details. Everything from location to the type of glassware used will enable you to make a judgment. Judgment is exactly what it is. No one wants to be judged, but at the end of the day, either consumer like or dislike your product or service. That comes through a series of assessments, or judgement, based on basic sensory experiences. Choosing a location or a partner in your business venture predetermines a lot of what your final experience will feel like to your guests. So having a space that feels like a natural extension of you is important. When Mike and Neff came together to take over the space that would become The Cottonmouth the conversation of ‘can we make it work’ had to happen.
The Houston bar community has seen a lot of growth and maturity in the last ten years. What is interesting about that is the people who have endured many changes. Sometimes turbulent, sometimes trifling, sometimes significant. What may deter a person from taking part in the process of a growing maturing community will turn some away. In this episode, Mike Raymond talks about his start in the hospitality industry in the late 80s and his trajectory into becoming a bar owner of a well recognized and acclaimed whiskey bar, Reserve 101. This is a conversation that gives some context into what the hospitality industry used to be and what it is now. He and Michael Neff have opened a bar in the 100 block of downtown Houston called The Cottonmouth which is a throwback to a true refuge. Also, he gives me some sage advice for my upcoming concept bar at Bravery Chef Hall in downtown Houston. Lockwood Stn. will be a cocktail bar focused on elaborating every aspect of hospitality, technique, and passion, an absolute labor of love.

One of the highly anticipated new vehicle introductions at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit was that of the 2019 Ram 1500. Not only is this half-ton pickup significantly improved over its predecessor in terms of capabilities and technologies, but it will be built in a factory that previously had been dedicated to assembling sedans. Rob Wichman, vehicle line executive for Ram Truck, and Mike Raymond, chief engineer for the Ram 1500, sat down with Manufacturing Engineering Editor Emeritus Jim Sawyer to outline what it took to arrive at the new pickup and the essentially new factory.
We're back with a new name, but with the same goal of opening up whisky conversation as regular whisky lovers taste, rate, and debate whiskies from around the world! This month, we're in Houston, Texas at Reserve 101, one of the city's best whisky bars, to taste the Brenne 10-year-old French single malt, the Glen Grant 18-year-old single malt, and Sonoma County Distilling's Cherrywood Rye from California. We should note that our panel was recorded before Hurricane Harvey devastated many parts of Houston and the Texas Gulf Coast. Fortunately, the bar and our panelists - Reserve 101 owner Mike Raymond, bartender Christa Havican, and Houston whisky writer Nath Pizzolatto - all made it through the flooding safely. However, many of their friends and neighbors were less fortunate, and we'll tell you how you can support the region's recovery efforts, too.
