Dave Sowers brings electrifying news from Ram as the brand accelerates into an exciting future under returning leadership. The conversation kicks off with a glimpse at Ram's strategic shift toward more affordable options with the 2026 Ram 1500 Express. Starting at $44,495, this new trim delivers attitude and value in equal measure, featuring 20-inch wheels and monochromatic styling that makes a statement without breaking the bank. The real story unfolds when Sowers dives into the technical innovations powering Ram's lineup. The optional Hurricane straight-six engine steals the spotlight, cranking out 420 horsepower – more than the previous V8 – while delivering improved emissions and fuel economy. For those wanting extra visual impact, the Black Express package transforms the truck with blacked-out wheels, badges, and accents available in several eye-catching colors including the new Forged Blue.Heavy-duty enthusiasts have even more reason to celebrate as Sowers reveals the 6.7-liter high-output Cummins diesel is now standard across all 2500 and 3500 pickups, delivering 430 horsepower and a staggering 1,075 pound-feet of torque. But the revolutionary breakthrough comes in the form of the TorqueFlite HD eight-speed transmission that eliminates the need for customers to choose specialized axle ratios. This intelligent system provides better pulling power than previous setups while maintaining efficient highway cruising, adapting automatically to recognize when you're towing and adjusting shift patterns accordingly.Throughout our conversation, Sowers' enthusiasm for Ram's direction is palpable. "The stuff we're talking about today is just the tip of the iceberg," he reveals, hinting at more innovations on the horizon. After navigating recent corporate changes, Ram seems poised for a renaissance built on thoughtful engineering and customer-focused design that balances performance, luxury, and value.Want to experience these remarkable trucks yourself? Listen now and discover why truck enthusiasts are buzzing about Ram's latest offerings – then visit your local Ram dealer to feel the difference firsthand.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Chevrolet has just released the jaw-dropping figures for its 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, which boasts an astonishing 1,064 horsepower, and that's just the beginning of an episode that should warm the heart of every musclecar fan. On top of the Corvette news, Stellantis has announced that it will continue to build and market HEMI V8-powered Dodge Durangos, and by some weird twist of fate, Host Jack Nerad just drove a Durango and he will share his recent Chicago area road test experience in the 2025 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat. The survival of the Durango is good news for enthusiasts, because it's a powerhouse that continues to dominate the performance three-row SUV segment. With its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine producing a staggering 710 horsepower, the Durango SRT Hellcat offers explosive performance that gets drivers from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. This robust SUV combines thrilling acceleration with practicality, having the ability to tow up to 8,700 pounds and comfortably seat up to six passengers. Also featured in our road test segment this week Co-Host Chris Teague evaluates the 2025 Acura MDX, a luxury SUV that enhances both comfort and capability. With a refined interior that prioritizes quality and space, the MDX provides seating for up to seven and is loaded with tech features, including a large touchscreen interface for its infotainment system. Under the hood, the MDX offers the choice of two dynamic V6 engines that can deliver engaging driving experiences while maintaining reasonable fuel efficiency. Its all-wheel-drive system instills on-road confidence, but can it stand up to the cruelties of a Maine winter? We'll have Teague's practiced opinion on the matter. In the news this week, Stellantis is making headlines with the installation of former Dodge executive Tim Kuniskis as head of the brand and important updates to its forthcoming product plans. The battery-electric Ram pickup has been delayed while Ram pushes the Ramcharger forward, relying on its interesting range-extender tech to gain much-needed traction in the full-size pickup segment. On a more mainstream tack, we'll also review the pluses and minuses of the 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid, a finalist for the North American Car of the Year award, which will be announced next month. Meanwhile, Nissan has made some changes to the battery-electric Ariya that make it more appealing than ever. This week, our special guest is Maggie Clark, a Toyota product specialist, who shares insights on new Toyota models like the 2025 Crown Signia and Land Cruiser. For the 2024 model year, Mercedes-AMG is upgrading the performance-oriented GLS 63 three-row SUV by adding to its generous list of standard equipment. If you think a performance-oriented three-row SUV is sort of a silly idea, well, you probably haven't driven a GLS 63. But co-host Chris Teague has, and he reports on all the details of his weeklong stint in the flagship of the AMG SUV family. The 2024 GLS 63 gets new appearance items inside and out — a new rear light signature and a Nappa leather-cover instrument panel among the new features. It also has been endowed with a newly standard panoramic sliding sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, adaptive high-beam headlights, selectable AMG Performance exhaust system, Burmester surround sound system, 360-degree surround view system and blind spot assist. Of course, the heart of the GLS 63 is under the hood, where lies the handcrafted AMG 4.0-liter V8 Biturbo engine that produces 603 horsepower. For use in the big SUV, it has been systematically electrified with a 48-volt auxiliary on-board electrical system and integrated starter generator. The result of this mild-hybrid system is even smoother and more powerful drivability. Chris Teague will tell you the rest in this episode. While Teague was testing the $150,000+ AMG GLS 63, Host Jack Nerad was behind the wheel of the 2024 Mazda Mazda 3 Turbo. While it seems the co-host got the best of it, Nerad found there was nothing shabby about the performance or equipment of the $36,000 Mazda3. In an ocean of compact cars, the hatchback stands out for its premium looks, exquisite interior, and fun-to-drive persona. No, its 256 horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine and standard all-wheel-drive give it a verve that few compacts can match. And we'll have other thoughts coming up in this episode. In this week's news segment, Stellantis, the owners of the Jeep, RAM Truck, Dodge, and Chrysler brands, is trying to stave off rumors that it will merge with France-based Renault. We'll tell you more about that and its implications coming up. Ford is facing disruptions to the product of its F-150 and F-150 Lightning pickup trucks, which could cost you if you're seeking a new Ford truck. And while Toyota has not been bullish about electric vehicles, it has just announced a giant new EV production facility to be based in Kentucky. We'll have more on both stories. We are also sad to report the imminent demise of yet another legendary vehicle. We'll tell you what it is and when it goes away in this week's show. This week, our special guest is Katelyn Salzman, Lexus expert on the all-new Lexus GX SUV. Host Jack Nerad recently had a chance to drive the GX and then sat down with her to discuss the details of what is a more exciting vehicle than ever before. We think you'll enjoy our conversation. All that and more are coming up on America on the Road. Jill and Tom opened the show discussing home remedies their parents and grand parents believed in. The hosts agreed that saltines and 7-Up were understood to cure almost anything. Tom noted that his dad was a firm believer in the curative power of Jägermeister. (Jill is under the weather, hence the remedy chat.) The discussion finally turned automotive, and Jill shared her thoughts on the heavily updated Honda Accord, with which she is very impressed. The new Accord features a trimmed down lineup, but more hybrid models. Jill and Tom also discussed the new Dodge Hornet compact crossover, which Jill seems to like a little more than Tom, though both agree the newest Dodge is fun to drive. In the second segment Jill and Tom welcome Brant Combs, Ram head of marketing, to the podcast. Brant discussed the Ram Revolution electric pickup-truck concept, which was first seen at CES in January, and the production RAM REV electric pickup. Brant talked about the RAM REV's role in the expanding EV market place, and hinted at exciting powertrain news to come. Jill was subjected to Tom's “1995 or 2000” quiz, after which Jill finally shared her impressions of the all-new, three-row, Toyota Grand Highlander midsize crossover.
