Welcome Thrivers! I'm so excited to bring you another guest episode of Thriving Parenting. Today, I'm joined by the incredible Rachel Lee, an award-winning photographer, mom of three boys, and a passionate advocate for embracing the full spectrum of motherhood—the beautiful, challenging, and everything in between. In this episode, Rachel and I dive into her deeply personal journey of motherhood, beginning with the struggles she faced as a first-time mom. She shares how a traumatic birth, sleep deprivation, and breastfeeding challenges made her question whether she was cut out for parenting. Over time, Rachel reframed her mindset, learning to embrace the ups and downs of motherhood and finding joy in the process.Rachel also opens up about her decision to expand her family, her approach to navigating hard seasons, and how her perspective shifted with each child. She candidly discusses her experience with overwhelming health challenges and her transformative decision to undergo a hysterectomy—a choice that profoundly improved her quality of life and parenting journey. We also talk about Rachel's powerful passion project, The Colors of Motherhood. This photography series captures the raw, unspoken realities of motherhood and pairs them with stories from moms of diverse backgrounds. Rachel shares how this project helps validate the hard emotions of motherhood, fosters connection, and gives voice to feelings often left unspoken.Throughout this episode, Rachel and I reflect on how motherhood reshapes our identities, teaches us about resilience, and challenges us to seek support and let go of perfectionism. In This Episode, We Cover:The emotional rollercoaster of becoming a first-time momReframing challenges and embracing the seasons of motherhoodHow each child brings a unique experience and healingRachel's journey through chronic health struggles and the decision to have a hysterectomyThe inspiration and stories behind The Colors of Motherhood projectPractical self-care tips for busy moms (yes, including how a keep-cup can be life-changing!)Why asking for help is an act of courage, not failureAbout Rachel Lee:Rachel Lee is a mum of 3 zestful boys, who are 8, 6 and 3 who teach her how to enjoy the moment, even when it's full body tackles. Her motherhood experiences have been both joyful and challenging and through parenting her boys, she has discovered more about herself than she ever expected. She is also the creative force, founder and photographer behind Scribbly Gum Photography. She is an International award-winning photographer, and most recently, also received the Illawarra Women in Business award for Outstanding Customer Service.Rachel has a deep passion for capturing the essence of motherhood in all it's forms - motherhood is more than the beautiful moments of love and connection. She has created a Colours of Motherhood Magazine. This is a collection of stories from a diverse group of mums, who have each shared a challenge they have faced in motherhood. Rachel has created an image to represent the feelings each mum faced when navigating their challenge. She created this magazine to try and start to change the narrative of experiencing challenges in motherhood as common, and not have it being equated to personal failings. She hopes that mums reading it will see that they are not alone in their feelings and experiences.Rachel is also a volunteer photographer for Heartfelt, an organisation that provides photography services for families who have experienced stillbirths, premature births or have children with terminal illnesses. For these families, photography can be an important part of their healing process. Rachel has also supported and trained newer photographers starting their volunteer journey with Heartfelt.Prior to...

Explore the saga of the Raines family, a shockingly sinister tale about the elaborate deception that led to the downfall of their Pacific Northwest timber empire. The 1200-acre Raines Family Tree Farm was nestled just an hour west of bustling Portland. Ralph Raines and his son Ralph Jr. were the hardworking stewards of the land that was once home to over a million trees. The patriarch, Ralph Sr., a WWII pilot and Oregon State University graduate before his days as a timber tycoon, instilled the values of hard work and environmental sustainability in his son, Ralph Jr. In 2004, their tranquil lives take a dark turn after Ralph Jr. encounters a psychic, Rachel Lee, during a trip to Bend, Oregon. Rachel, with a knack for cons, would insidiously infiltrate the Raines family. As Ralph Sr. succumbs to ill-health, Rachel becomes his caregiver, gaining control of the estate's financial affairs. The scam intensifies as Rachel conspires with her daughter, Porsha Lee, who disguises herself as an Englishwoman named Mary Marks. From there several plot lines unfold, each wilder than the last: a sham wedding, fake pregnancies, and stolen identity. All of which would play a part in the devious financial schemes and deception, as the Lee family began siphoning millions from the Raines family estate.Discover how the Raines men were led astray by a clairvoyant con-artist as the Lees orchestrate the sale of the tree farm, pilfering the proceeds before going on to drain various accounts all while leaving an apparent trail of their financial abuse. Authorities, alerted by keen detectives, would finally expose the fraudulent scheme but only through court proceedings would the extent of the manipulation would be revealed.Despite the devastation, Ralph Jr. remains resilient, optimistic that the clear-cut land will one day flourish again. The Raines family legacy, once marred by deception, has now become a story of resilience and hope for the future, even amidst the most devastating of wreckages. Well hello, everyone! We recorded this episode a few days after we returned from Obsessed Fest ‘23. … Though it's probably more accurate to say that we recorded this episode a few days after we *fled* Obsessed Fest ‘23. Eh, tomayto, tomahto.  We talk about Obsessed Fest quite a bit in this episode, but if you'd like more information about what happened, we have two recommendations:  First, we recommend listening to the latest episode of the podcast One Dry Kiss. Their episode, “Obsessed Mess, Mischief MisManagement and Amazing People and Podcasters,” is a firsthand account of what the weekend was like for attendees.  Second, we recommend listening to the latest episode of Rabia and Ellyn Solve the Case, titled, “About Damn Crime: Obsessed Fest.” In that episode, Ellyn Marsh, Rabia Chaudry, Joey Taranto, Maggie Freleng, Daisy Eagan, Amber Hunt, Harris Lane and Ashleigh Gibson share their experiences from the weekend. If you like receipts, this is the podcast for you. By the way, if you listen closely to this episode, you might hear Kristin cover a timber swindler. It's a troubling story about a man named Ralph Raines, who was exploited by a “psychic” named Rachel Lee. Over the course of ten years, Rachel took nearly everything Ralph had. And now for a note about our process. For this episode, Kristin read a bunch of articles, then spat them back out in her very limited vocabulary. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the real experts who covered these cases. In this episode, Kristin pulled from: “Psychic Fiend's Network” episode of American Greed “Sweetheart Swindle” episode of 20/20 “How a psychic stole millions of dollars from an Oregon timber heir,” by ABC News “Phony wife in sweetheart swindle, who bilked millions from Gaston tree farm heir, gets prison,” by Bryan Denson for The Oregonian “Daughter of Oregon psychic pleads guilty to helping bilk millions from Gaston tree farm heir,” by Everton Bailey Jr. for The Oregonian “‘The Sweetheart Swindle': Rich older bachelor targeted by family,” True Crime Daily  YOU'RE STILL READING? My, my, my, you skeezy scunch! You must be hungry for more! We'd offer you some sausage brunch, but that gets messy. So how about you head over to our Patreon instead? (patreon.com/lgtcpodcast). At the $5 level, you'll get 53+ full length bonus episodes, plus access to our 90's style chat room!

The Fifth Floor visits the BBC's Seoul Bureau to meet the journalists working for BBC Korean, serving audiences across the whole of the Korean peninsula, with different output for both North and South Korea. Journalists David Oh, Hyunjung Kim and Yuna Ku talk about the stories they've been working on for the domestic audience, from the growing global interest in Korean popular culture to what divides, and unites, Koreans. They also broadcast a daily radio programme to North Korea. Editor Woongbee Lee and journalist Rachel Lee explain how they keep this largely unknown audience informed about worldwide news, as well as stories about their own country unreported by their state broadcasters. And on the first anniversary of the Itaewon Halloween tragedy in which 159 people became trapped in huge crowds and died, unable to breathe, we hear from Jungmin Choi who filmed on the scene in the days after the disaster, and Yuna Ku, who is working on stories to mark the anniversary, about the victims' families' fight for justice. The Lancetfish, scientifically known as Alepisaurus ferox, is a fascinating deep-sea creature that inhabits the world's oceans. With a long, slender body and a menacing appearance, it belongs to the family of alepisauridae. The Lancetfish is characterized by its sharp teeth, large eyes, and a prominent sail-like dorsal fin. It possesses a unique ability to extend its lower jaw, enabling it to engulf prey larger than its own size. Its elusive nature and remarkable adaptations make it a captivating inhabitant of the mysterious deep-sea realm. It houses a blindsac attached to the stomach allowing it to hold prey that leaves them in perfect condition until transferred to the stomach. A podcast episode sponsored by YUV The most game-changing addition to the salon since the hairdryer, introducing YUV. Big claim, eh? Well in this latest episode of our brand new four part collaborative podcast series with YUV, I'm excited to be invited to discuss a revolutionary new colour system for the hair industry thats never been seen before. I'm to be joined by Marketing Manager for YUV, Rachel Lee, and Zoey Olechnowicz who serves as Senior Colour Educator at YUV, where we'll be exploring what YUV is and what it can offer salons and freelancers, including how the YUV colour lab can dispense millions of colour shade tones and how it looks and works. We'll also discuss the range of colours that YUV can create, and why the hair industry needs a system like YUV. One of the most exciting aspects of YUV is its sustainable closed loop system, which we'll delve into and explain how it works. We'll also explore how many colour canisters a salon needs to hold using yuv and the colour ingredients used in YUV. We'll also dive into the performance of the products, and how YUV eliminates the need for shade charts by allowing you to create your own custom colour shade palettes. Another key benefit of YUV is its ability to remove colour wastage, and we'll hear from Rachel and Zoey on how this will be achieved. And what about the cost of YUV and what you get for your investment? We cover that, too! This is a big listen!
