Back to business: Wir reden endlich über ADOLESCENCE.
A general goes to war with the army that was given to him by his mafia sponsor, not the one he wants. Or rather, he doesn't even do that- as famously one of the machines we're talking about today spent a long time on the bench. The Shiden sits in a weird place among IBO grunts, feeling torn between the rest of the world's design, and other 00s and beyond Gundam art. But it's still cool. In this episode of Boku No Stop! we discuss episodes 23-25 of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans. Content warnings: deaths in all shapes and sizes, gaslighting, body horror This week, we wrap our journey into freedom with IBO season one's climax, learn about Canadian politics through Leningrad metaphor, try to calculate the best way to orbital drop a 90 year old man safely into a crowded city, and finally decide that rather than grapple with the themes of this episode, to take a 25 minute detour into dog fashion and anime candle discussion. It's a hell of a time, folks. Wish Chris a farewell as we leave this feed behind for paywalled waters. In this episode of Boku No Stop! we discuss episodes 21-22 of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans. Content warnings: brutal child death via crushing A hero falls today, but nobody has to like it... and the cast don't! They fucking hate it, actually. Thankfully, your delightful hosts are having a good time as we move into the endgame of IBO: a road trip across Canada, with wacky neighbor "Montag" showing up for hijinks, and the denizens of Gjallarhorn House moving to crash the party at every turn. Iron Blooded Orphans: one of the only things Mari Okada has written that is somehow not a sex farce on any level. In this episode of Boku No Stop! we discuss episodes 19-20 of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans. Content warning: suicide, copious amounts of blood Here it comes, we're on the road to the finale now, no turning back once we make Earthfall! See our hosts all grapple with the family drama and internal tensions threatening to tear Tekkadan apart, as well as the very literal tensions and sensations tugging them towards a much more brutal gravity. In this episode of Boku No Stop! we discuss episodes 17-18 of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans. Content warning: gruesome gun violence This week: labor unions versus cops in space, with kids caught in the middle. How well will it turn out? Well, this episode is one of our shortest ever because the fallout comes next week. No, not Fallout. Wrong series. Worse takes on labor though. In this episode of Boku No Stop! we discuss episodes 15-16 of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans. Content Warning: EXTREME gun violence, torture We're host-light as we kick off galaxy-wide events in Iron-Blooded Orphans, and learn just how bad inequality gets when you've got a whole set of worlds to colonize. In this episode of Boku No Stop! we discuss episodes 13-14 of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans. Content Warning: child death, gun violence Y'all, I cannot put it any other way: this is the episode with deaths, gays, vibes, and a literal Costco in space. We've gone full Gundam, folks, and the ride won't slow down from here to the finale. Come along with a full crew as everyone discusses That Dog, children grapple with all sorts of emotions, and once again, exhaustingly, Naze reminds us that oh yes. He fucks. In this episode of Boku No Stop! we discuss episodes 11-12 of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans. Tragedy strikes this week as the Isaribi meet space pirates! No, not Naze and the space mafia. Different sort of thing entirely. Naze doesn't keep slaves. Probably. Look, we'll get into it soon enough, just trust us that nobody who's helping teach children to read can be all evil, right? jane got sick so no episode this week :( listen to the first episode of our iron blooded orphans coverage instead! if you like it, you can find the full season 1 on patreon RIGHT NOW!!! here's the old episode description: cw: even by Gundam standards, Iron-Blooded Orphans is pretty grim! we're going to be discussing child soldiers, war crimes, dehumanisation, fascism, colonialism, suicide, and PTSD) it's a new era for Nectar of the Pods, as today we start our coverage of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans by watching the first three episodes! we talk about our new draft of horribly traumatised child soldiers, draw some interesting parallels between this show and the 1979 anime, attempt to graft this divisive and financially middling show onto the side of the much more successful Witch From Mercury, talk about wow cool robot, how war is bad, and some bizarre dubbing decisions! we also chat shit about baking, Food Wars, and shitty One Piece crossovers!
In this episode of Boku No Stop! we discuss episodes 7-8 of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans. This episode was nearly titled "the one with the cheese bones" and I expect all of you are going to prove your humble editor correct. The Calamity War of IBO lore must have been kinda dumb, right? Like, ok. I have to give this another sentence so the preview doesn't spoil the show. But there were railgun archer lines, samurai, wild (???) mobile armors attacking any and everyone, one hundred and EIGHT different Gundams running around with weapons like pliers and box cutters, tons of pilots were physically plugged into their mobile suits, and a quarter of humanity died. I really hope they never do a spinoff about it, because it seems really stupid, frankly. Beans Time 1:03:28 You can find a video version of this podcast for free on Scanline Media's Patreon! Laughter can be the best medicine and with the right dosage, all pain and stress can be lifted in an instant. Without comedy, how would people be able to be honest with themselves and their flaws? Or without comedy, how would people make light of dire situations? In order to have fun in life, people must be a little wacky with themselves. We've finally arrived at the most recent mainline Gundam TV series on our Weekly Suit Gundam journey! But before diving into that, we also give thoughts on Halo Infinite's multiplayer launch, Jonathan's early impressions of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond, and more news about the unfathomably awful environment that is Activision Blizzard. Then it's on to 2015's Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. Tackling the theme of child soldiers more directly than Gundam ever had before, Iron-Blooded Orphans is one of Gundam's darkest and most violent hours, but also one of its richest and most rewarding, a unique blend of daily life coming-of-age storytelling with hard-edged military fiction that leaves a huge impact. Season 1, which we're discussing today, follows the formation of the child-mercenary group Tekkadan – the eponymous Orphans with Iron in their Blood – and their journey to bring Martian independence activist Kudelia Aina Bernstein to Earth. It's a stupendous season of television with tons to talk about, and a pleasure to finally reach and discuss. In the lush countryside of Japanese-occupied Korea in the 1930's, an heiress to a large fortune stares outside the misty window wondering if there is anything more to life than what she currently knows. Housed by her overbearing uncle and bound to the confines of the luxurious estate since childhood, the structure mimics that of her fractured identity: forever split between the lineage of Korea and Japan. Park Chan-wook's 2016 erotic psychological thriller, The Handmaiden, weaves together a labyrinthian narrative whose subversions leave the viewer guessing at every turn. A meditation on exploitation, manipulation, and objectification found throughout history, characters are left to decide whether or not they wish to remain in the patriarchal structure that has imprisoned them for as long back as they can remember. Filled with immaculate imagery and a stirring soundscape to match, this movie delves beyond the illusory superficial layers of its own making to construct a tender and poetic center at the heart of it all. Special thanks to Adan “Ardough” Franco for joining us for this episode and for recommending this movie to us. As always, thank you for listening and we hope you enjoy the discussion.
