My guest on the podcast this week is actor Leigh Gill. You may know him as Gary from the oscar winning movie Joker, as well as his roles on Game of Thrones, The Witcher, and his latest movie Blitz. We got terrifically drunk and talked what it's like to work with Joaquin Phoenix and hang out with Al Pacino. Mental. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

One major factor in any medium of storytelling is just how does one convey the elements of the story itself. Does one put forth a wall of text, or can it be experienced by the reader and viewer instead? In this episode of the Animecast, the hosts explore these and other facets of storytelling to try to find what really works and what fails to impress. Topics this episode: Story Beats, Pacing, Information Dump, Show Don’t Tell, Directing, Story Boarding, Writing, Goods and Bads. The intro for this episode is called “Infinity Zero” by nano which can be found on iTunes. The outro for this episode is the OP for Trinity Seven called “Seven Doors” by ZAQ which can be found on iTunes.

I’m not ready!! Casey (@MinovskyArticle) and I aren’t ready for the next part of Slam Dunk, so here we are in June without a podcast…until now. I have this cockamamie plan to review the entirety of YuYu Hakusho with Chris (@gokuffy), Casey, Dawn (@bunnycartoon), and Ruby (@PassionTentacle), which will be coming soon. But until then! Here’s this episode zero of stuff tangentially related to the anime and stuff that actually happens after the anime. Good job me. Anyway, we’re here to talk about YuYu Hakusho The Movie and Eizou Hakusho, the things included in the Funimation OAV that was released back in 2011. Listen Show notes: 0:30 – Start the show! We talk about what we’ve been watching, including Ushio and Tora, The Lost Village, My Hero Academia, Kiznaiver, Sakamoto, Flying Witch, Joker Game, Bungo Stray Dogs, and Tanaka-kun. 31:45 – We talk about YuYu Hakusho! I give a YuYu Hakusho primer and we talk about the movie! 46:14 – We talk about the Eizou Hakusho stuff! The true MVPs of these discs. 1:06:49 – Chris tangents into the other YuYu Hakusho movie! And we tangent onto other stuff, inevitably. Next time, it’s a (hopefully) triumphant return of Slam Dunk!

FUNimation is at it again! Rather than license or release any of the titles fans have been clamoring for, they instead decided to license Imperial Japanese propaganda from the 40's! But it's okay, see, this is the first full-length animated film from Japan! So it's historical! So surely, FUNimation is treating it with respect as a piece of history with unfortunate involvements and not, say, trying to hype it like they just licensed a new Hosoda film or anything! Right?! Join the guys at The Other Side as they discussed the truly messed up stories behind this film, FUNimation's hilariously moronic statements about it, talk a little history, and then take some time to explain that you should disregard anyone who's been recommending Joker Game to you. Spoiler alert; it's really fucked up.
