For people living with osteoarthritis, news about potential new treatments often comes with more questions than answers. In this episode of The Health Advocates, we slow things down to explain what it really means when a company submits a New Drug Application, or NDA, to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Steven Newmark is joined by Erich Horsley and Dr. Yusuf Yazici from Biosplice Therapeutics to walk through this important regulatory milestone and why it matters for patients. Together, they break down what an NDA is, what happens during FDA review, and what patients should and should not expect while a therapy is under evaluation. The conversation also explores the current osteoarthritis treatment landscape, why progress in this disease has been so challenging, and what researchers mean when they talk about disease-modifying approaches. This week on The Health Advocates, we unpack a series of developments that signal a pivotal moment in U.S. health policy. The FDA has refused to review Moderna’s new mRNA-based flu vaccine, raising questions about regulatory standards and the future of vaccine innovation. At the same time, the Trump administration has launched TrumpRx, a new prescription drug discount platform that promises savings but faces scrutiny over its scope and real-world impact. We also examine new polling showing declining confidence in flu, COVID-19, and MMR vaccines, and the growing legal battle over changes to the federal childhood vaccine schedule. With public trust, regulatory rigor, and patient access all in play, this episode breaks down what these headlines mean for patients — and why clarity and credible science matter more than ever. Congress has passed, and President Trump has signed, a major government funding bill that includes a wide range of health care policies, from telehealth extensions and hospital-at-home programs to long-sought reforms targeting pharmacy benefit managers. But alongside those wins, the legislation also raises serious questions about the future direction of federal health policy. In this episode of The Health Advocates, Steven Newmark breaks down what the new spending package actually does for patients, what it leaves unresolved, and why some lawmakers and advocates are uneasy about increasing funding for federal health agencies under current leadership. The conversation explores how these decisions affect access to care, drug costs, public health programs, and trust in health institutions. Whether you’re a patient, caregiver, clinician, or advocate, this episode offers a clear, practical look at how congressional budget decisions shape health care on the ground, and why continued engagement and oversight matter more than ever. In this episode of The Health Advocates, Steven Newmark sits down with Dr. Cynthia Overton to explore what person‑centered care truly looks like, through the eyes of someone who has lived it. At age 26, Cynthia experienced a sudden spinal cord injury that left her temporarily paralyzed—an event that fundamentally reshaped her understanding of health care. Today, she draws on both lived experience and evidence‑based frameworks to help organizations and individuals rethink how care is delivered, with an emphasis on dignity, communication, and whole‑person support. Together, Steven and Cynthia discuss disability inclusion, health equity, and why every patient interaction has the power to transform not only individual outcomes, but the system as a whole.Contact Our HostSteven Newmark, Chief of Policy at GHLF: snewmark@ghlf.orgA podcast episode produced by Ben Blanc, Director, Digital Production and Engagement at GHLF.We want to hear what you think. On January 18, 2026, the entire Colony Drop crew headed to our local movie theater for Gundam Premiere Night - a night which promised not one film, not a double feature, but an ultra rare TRIPLE FEATURE of Gundam films. With popcorn in hand, we watched all three offerings: MSG Iron Blooded Orphans Urdr-Hunt: Path of the Little Challenger, MSG Iron Blooded Orphans Wedge of Interposition, and Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz. Since Endless Waltz is a classic and no one in their right mind could dislike Wedge of Interposition, we spend most of this episode discussing Urdr-Hunt. We discuss Sunrise's penchant lately for putting its DVD extras at the beginning of the film, Wistario Afam's quest to create Las Venus, wives snoring, mobile armor's having PTSD, the identity of Lord N, the real color of Orga's suit, Sunrise's animation capability, and just what the hell Wufei was doing. Plus, Brian finally learns how to watch Gundam Wing!
In this episode of The Health Advocates, Steven Newmark breaks down a surprising moment of bipartisan agreement in Congress: a new Health and Human Services funding bill that includes meaningful wins for patients and public health. From protecting CDC and NIH funding to extending telehealth flexibilities and hospital-at-home programs, the bill also takes historic steps to reform Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs), aiming to make drug pricing more transparent and patient-centered. Steven walks through what’s in the legislation, what was left out, and why PBM reform could have a direct impact on out-of-pocket costs and medication access. Plus, what this deal signals about the power of patient advocacy in shaping policy—even in a divided political climate. In this episode, Corey LeBleu, a veteran penetration tester, shares a raw and intense story from his early days in offensive security. Corey walks through a social engineering engagement that took a sharp turn, from being closely watched by a security guard to receiving the call that changed everything. What followed was a confrontation with authority, handcuffs, and a moment that forced him to confront the legal and emotional consequences of impersonation.Through honest storytelling, Corey reflects on the pressure of physical security testing, the thin line between authorization and trouble, and the lessons he carried forward in his career. This episode serves as a cautionary tale about understanding boundaries, respecting authority, and the unseen risks behind revealing what's hidden.00:00 Introduction to Corey LeBleu and His Journey03:34 Corey's Early Career and Learning Path06:34 The Role of Mentorship in Pen Testing09:19 Experiences in Social Engineering and Physical Pen Testing12:22 The Handcuff Incident: A Lesson in Risk15:12 Transitioning to Web Application Pen Testing18:01 The Evolution of Pen Testing Practices20:48 The Impact of AI on Pen Testing23:42 The Future of Pen Testing and Learning for Beginners26:28 Navigating Active Directory and Pen Testing Tools27:35 Essential Training for Web App Pen Testing30:34 Advice for Aspiring Pen Testers32:30 Exploring AI and Learning Resources37:05 Personal Interests and Hobbies39:17 Living in Austin and Local Music SceneSYMLINKS[LinkedIn] – https://www.linkedin.com/in/coreylebleu/Primary platform Corey recommends for connecting with him professionally.[Relic Security] – https://www.relixsecurity.com/Cybersecurity consulting firm founded and run by Corey LeBleu, focused primarily on web application penetration testing and offensive security work.[PortSwigger Academy] – https://portswigger.net/web-securityA free and advanced online training platform for web application security, created by the makers of Burp Suite. In this episode of The Health Advocates, we break down one of the most pivotal and controversial ACIP meetings in recent history. The CDC’s vaccine advisory committee voted to roll back the universal hepatitis B birth dose, a policy that has protected newborns from chronic liver disease for more than three decades. We explain what ACIP decided, why the changes were not based on new scientific evidence, and how misinformation and ideological viewpoints shaped the discussion. We also explore the real-world consequences for families, clinicians, and health systems. From confusing new recommendations to unnecessary blood tests to disruptions in the overall childhood immunization schedule, these changes will make it harder for parents to access safe, routine preventive care. But the meeting also revealed something hopeful: strong advocacy — from medical societies, public health experts, grassroots organizers, and patient groups — helped prevent even more extreme proposals from becoming policy. Finally, we discuss what comes next as ACIP reviews additional childhood vaccines and how advocates, clinicians, and community members can stay engaged to protect science-based immunization policy.Contact Our HostSteven Newmark, Chief of Policy at GHLF: snewmark@ghlf.orgA podcast episode produced by Ben Blanc, Director, Digital Production and Engagement at GHLF.We want to hear what you think. Dee, Jay & LJ are back this week celebrating Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans' 10th Anniversary as they talk about its main Gundam pilot, Mikazuki Augus. They talk about how you shouldn't let anime pile up for too long in your backlog & how much they've enjoyed watching Gundam regularly again, before getting straight to this week's topic. The hosts explore Mika's bond with Orga, the brutality of his battles with Gundam Barbatos, and the ethical weight of fighting only for protection and survival. Tune in to hear them unpack how Mikazuki redefined what it means to be a Gundam protagonist, and whether his story is one of freedom, faith, or tragedy.Follow The Lookout Network on Twitter: @TheLookoutRNCFollow Dee on Twitter: @DeeWeTrustFollow Jay on Twitter: @VersaceVegeta_Follow LJ on Twitter: @onlyatlj
John 9:1-41We walk through John 9 and watch blame give way to purpose as a blind man sees, confronts power, and becomes a witness.
In my book, I want to draw out two facets of William Blake, which I think get routinely sidelined now. My conversation with Jane Clark and Nikos Yiangou enabled us to explore these dimensions. One is that Blake was a very sharp thinker. He had a very accurate and clear critique of the ideas that were beginning to bed down in his time and have really shaped our times in the modern Christian West. A second is that he is a religious figure, which gets sidelined in two ways. He lived daily with perceptions of angels and other entities: the divine, the dead. I don't explain that away by pathologising Blake. He is also a clear Christian mystic, a very important voice in Western Christianity since the Reformation - connecting us back to a mystical core, which again is very often sidelined. For more about my book, Awake!
