“We all have a story around money, we all have a relationship to it, and whether it is healthy and conscious and clear or totally submerged in unconscious, is really up to how we were raised, what we absorbed from the messages around us and then how much of our own work we've done around it.” – Kristin Keffeler  Connect with Kristin Keffeler: LinkedIn Instagram Facebook   Selected links and people mentioned from this episode: Illumination 360 The Myth of the Silver Spoon by Kristin Keffeler The Soul of Money by Lynne Twist Seven Stages of Money Maturity by George Kinder   Connect with REIN Canada REIN Canada CEO@reincanada.com REIN Channel Facebook Instagram Twitter   [0:42] Patrick introduces his next TEDM guest, Kristin Keffeler. [01:56] Kristin and Patrick get their conversation underway as she unpacks who she supports, why it's necessary and through her research and work what she has found gets harder for wealthy families. [08:07] Dispelling a myth, Kristin discusses the reality for some high-net-worth individuals, or high-income earners, and their relationship with wealth. [10:31] Our “money story” is often embedded in the relationships we observed growing up, and Kristin suggests the work we do around money to gain a healthier relationship with it as adults, is some of the most difficult. [14:47] Kristin observes in the affluent families she works with that often clients either overidentify with their wealth (I am my family's money, I don't know who I would be without it) or underidentify with it (distance themselves, reject that part of their narrative). She advises clients to approach it more like a teeter-totter. Zoom out to understand and recognize the privilege you have, not from guilt but from blessing and figure out your own voice and identity within it. [20:41] Kristin identifies that the work to be done around assessing our belief systems and understanding of money is not unique to the uber wealthy; we all have a relationship to money – healthy or unhealthy. Kristin goes on to discuss the concept of “money clutter” and relays a personal story of how she became aware of it. [28:04] The first thing we need to do in assessing our relationship with money is to pay attention to our overall mindset, the filter through which we take things in. Are we operating from a scarcity mindset or abundance mindset? [29:23] Kristin reminds us that money truly is energy and currency (current-cy). Like a current it can flow to and from us, and our mindfulness around it has an effect. Money wants to be in motion. [32:20] Of the second question we can ask to test our relationship with money, Kristin reframes it from a broad and ambiguous question (what is your relationship to money?) to a deeper embodiment experience. [34:44] Kristin shares what “doing the work” looked like for her to improve her own relationship with money after her husband pointed out the mindset he observed. Books, self awareness, intentionality, and physicality all played a part. [41:43] Building on those fundamentals, Kristin shares another story from her personal life to illustrate her self-observation and development. [44:02] Kristin and Patrick discuss financial dependency in the context of relationship and social constructs. [48:48] Growing up in the same family doesn't always equate to the same experience. Kristin reflects on the experience she had of her family's wealth as the youngest child vs. her older brothers who had a much different lens to view their upbringing. [53:18] Resourceful and independent, Kristin was used to forging her path but at times she felt the weight of her family's financial success as intimidating and a prohibitively high bar to measure up to. Eventually, her desire for larger impact summoned the needed courage to build her own business and the financial rewards as a result. [59:22] Success. Stephanie believes that it's totally normal to be emotional when it comes to money. With this reality in mind as a starting point, it becomes so much easier to carve out the way forward. She then shares several psychological concepts and tools that one can use to start gaining that self-awareness, and from there unearth those limiting beliefs that contribute to negative behavior around one's finances—from coming to terms with the negativity bias, to the practice of mental accounting, to the secret to true money maturity! I am so happy to have you here today, I am interviewing my good friend, George Kinder. George is known as the father of life planning. He was a financial advisor who wrote this amazing book that impacted me many years ago around The Seven Stages of Money Maturity and inspired my work. And today, we're having a very different kind of conversation because he's talking about his latest book which he is giving away for free. And, it is poetry that's oriented to the present moment. He ended up chronicling with photographs and with these poems over the course of a year what he experiences in the place that he lives on a pond not that far from Walden pond. But how the nature in this seasons affect his life and it's just a really fun conversation. I love George's work, and I know you'll really enjoy it.   He shares with us his insights:   Right and, and I mean it's when you think about each moment is a moment potentially a freedom for you, and if you take more moments in your life and live more freedom in here. Every encounter you make is going to have that in it, and people are going to see that and feel it and spread it in their own way we don't know. It's a mystery how we impact things. And you know if you get lost in the civilization piece of it and think – ‘Oh it's got a loss, got to change or the votes have to go this way'. Well yeah, I mean that's what you're kind of fighting for, in a way. But if there's a certain randomness to it. There's too much energy around the attachment to the result, just do the good work. And, things will come about. Transformation will occur.   And everywhere I go, I make sure this is part of it, because all we need is one piece of legislation that would require this – ‘a fiduciary standard of obligation is required for all institutions – corporate, nonprofit, and governmental to place the interests of all stakeholders of humanity; of democracy; and the living planet that sustains us. First, above their own self-interest so it's where the reason we're seeing this chaos right now is because we've allowed kind of greed and arrogance. We've rewarded more greed and arrogance that we've rewarded wisdom and compassion.   Absolutely, I mean it's something we don't really even fully understand Confucius. I love reading the ancient masters and teachers. And, one of the things that he said he was, he lived in a time when there was tremendous corruption. And I don't know if you know this, but he died thinking that he failed. There was so much corruption in China was at that point in five or six or seven, different warring states, wars, terrorism, terrible stuff. And he figured out how to solve it. And, a lot of it had to do with being good people; being good; being kind; being responsible. And, he was asked once by, you know, kind of the President, or the Emperor, the CEO of this particular state. The guy said, ‘Hey, you know, how can I start my people, they're thieving, and they're taking advantage of each other; and they're rude; and they're all this kind of stuff. How can I stop them from doing that? And Confucius said – first, really very simple, all you have to do is stop doing it yourself'.   Harvard-educated George Kinder revolutionized financial advice for more than 35 years by training over 4,000 professionals in 30 countries in the field of financial Life Planning. He founded the Kinder Institute of Life Planning in 2003 after 30 years as a practicing financial planner and tax advisor.   George Kinder's latest book, Reflections on Spectacle Pond: The Weekly Edition is available as a free email subscription. Inspired by the 30 years he has spent living at the edge of a small New England pond, the book is a meditative guide to living in nature's cycle, week by week, and moment by moment. Among his seven books, he has written one on mindfulness,  Transforming Suffering into Wisdom, and another book of photography and poetry, A Song for Hana.   Kinder was the first winner of the Financial Planning Association's Heart of Financial Planning Award which recognizes “individuals who demonstrate commitment and passion in doing extraordinary work to contribute or give back to the financial planning community and/or the public.”  He has been named “One of the 35 most influential people in financial services,” “One of the top Icons & Innovators in the financial planning industry,” “the first of 15 transformational advisors whose vision most changed the industry,” and has been inducted into the Financial Planning Magazine Hall of Fame. In 2017, he was awarded the Transparency Trophy by the Transparency Task Force. He has appeared on many radio and television programs and his expertise has been featured in The Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, New Model Adviser, Forbes, Time Magazine, FP Today, The Journal of Financial Planning, Investment News, and The New York Times.   Kinder is known for his dynamic presentation skills and has given speeches at professional conferences on five continents. He has spoken at Harvard University, Boston College, Coventry University, Merrill Lynch, Smith Barney, Fidelity, Charles Schwab, Allianz, AXA, The Financial Planning Association, The Personal Finance Society, and The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors.   Kinder currently resides in Massachusetts and spends several months per year in London and Hana, Hawaii.   Learn more about George:   Website/Free gift:   https://www.georgekinder.com   Instagram:    https://www.instagram.com/george_kinder   Facebook:    https://www.facebook.com/GeorgeDKinder   LinkedIn:    https://www.linkedin.com/in/george-d-kinder-0749196   Twitter:   https://twitter.com/GeorgeDKinder

Mail me op rensentherapie@gmail.com of mail Anita via info@anitageijtenbeek.nl.

Money, money, money… Money, money, money… What is it about money? For some it’s an obsession. For others it holds the electrical charge of politics and religion. Some loathe it. Some build their entire life around it. There are those that are uncomfortable with it, and there are those who are true masters of it. In this episode we begin the process of deconstructing the dynamics of money in our culture and how it affects how we live. Money touches so many parts of our lives. We interface with it regularly and are forever finding ourselves at financial crossroads, often making life decisions based on money. I have personally been fascinated with people’s experience, beliefs, and emotions around money. When it comes to living your most inspired and meaningful life, your relationship, attitude and understanding around it will have a lot to do with how that life will unfold for you. We’ve had plenty of questions rolling in from the ProfitBoss community, so now is a perfect opportunity to host another installment of #AskHillary! I’ll give my best thoughts on handling our parents’ money mindset, understanding the DOW Jones index, and several specific tax and retirement savings options. I will also tackle how to make the most of student loans, and how to save for life’s big adventures.     Since we have adventure on our minds, I think now is a perfect opportunity to talk about Travel Rewards. With U.S. airlines expected to carry more than 600 million passengers on domestic flights this year and credit card debt levels exploding, we can expect airfare savings to be increasingly important in the months ahead.   Jill Gonzales is going to fill us in on how to make smart decisions about choosing a frequent flyer program. You will learn the difference between a frequent flyer program and a rewards credit card, and then understand just how the WalletHub study was done. There is a lot of useful information in this episode, so be prepared to take notes!   What You Will Learn in This Episode: To help travelers make the best decisions for their wallets, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2018’s Best Frequent Flyer Programs, which ranks the 10 largest domestic airlines based on 23 key metrics, ranging from the value of a point/mile to blackout dates for rewards flights. WalletHub’s report also features a custom calculator that allows users to personalize the results based on their own budgets. You can find a few highlights from those results below.   Delta SkyMiles is the best frequent flyer program for the third straight year.    The average airline rewards program gives frequent flyers 12% off their airline spending. And they’re all free to join.     Hawaiian Airlines offers the most rewards value to frequent flyers ($19.95 per $100 spent), with Alaska Airlines coming in a close second ($19.87 per $100 spent).    Four of the 10 largest airlines are offering more rewards in 2018 than in 2017, sweetening the pot by an average of 20%.    Delta Air Lines and JetBlue Airways are the only two major airlines whose miles do not expire because of inactivity.    The Frontier Airlines Credit Card and the Lufthansa Credit Card are 2018’s best airline credit cards, according to WalletHub’s editors.    For the full report, including the custom calculator, please visit:  https://wallethub.com/edu/best-frequent-flyer-program/25943/   Resources The Seven Stages of Money Maturity

Learning what your values are is so important no matter what goals you have or what phase of life you're in. Often times, we're influenced by outside sources like our friends, family members, celebrities, or even the media and we may interpret their beliefs or actions with things we should value when they're not actually our values at all. It can take a lot of experience and soul searching to determine what your values are, but in this week's episode, we're focusing in on how we established our own set of values along with helpful tips to enable you to determine what you truly value in life. The Danger of Not Identifying Your Values Many people confuse values with beliefs and characteristics like morals and ethics but your values simply include things that are most important to you. It sounds like it should be simple to determine your values, but it's harder to narrow them down thanks to things that will deter the process like peer pressure, the imposter syndrome, and social media. However, if you don't get clear on your values, you may not be able to find your purpose or feel comfortable with your lifestyle. People who are confused about what they value also tend to spend mindlessly, lose motivation to reach their goals easily, dedicate their lives to pleasing other over meeting their own needs, and overall, they just lack any real direction in life. It's fun in the moment to have a 'YOLO' mindset and live life without any foundation but after a while, it gets old once you realize it's pointless to live with no real purpose. Some people even identify with having a quarter-life or mid-life crisis, which indicates that they need to slow down, refocus, and choose clear values for their life. Your Values Change Over Time You also might find it interesting to realize that your values change over time just as you change year after year. You may value certain things like coffee or meditation one day and other things like your new car or travel the next. when it comes to your values, there's no right or wrong answer. But when you decide what's most important to you, be sure to own it so you can live a more intentional life with fewer regrets. Ready to Determine or Reassess What Your Values Are? Be sure to tune in to this week's episode of the Financial Conversation podcast. As you saw with last week's episode, we're switching things up and providing regular seasons with the podcast. You'll still get to hear our lovely voices chat about important topics that relate to your everyday life whether it's surrounding finance, business, or personal reflection. However, this season is all about self-care and being the best you can be so the 10 episodes for this season will surround that overall theme. If you've been feeling lost lately in terms of setting goals and being content with your life, you may need to work on setting clear values which we will help you explore in this episode! In this episode we discuss: 1:55 - What are our values? 8:45 - What do you want to be known for? 9:45 - Did you have trouble defining your values? 17:15 - Using values to set goals and create a path 19:15 - Erin's process of finding values 23:00 - 3 questions to help you define your values 26:35 - Benefits of having clearly defined values 29:20 - Defined values help you take your life back Related Links to Check Out: The Power of Habits Over Resolutions The Seven Stages of Money Maturity by George Kinder - contains the 3 questions to help you define your values
