16 For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.[a] 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God; the only God,[b] who is at the Father’s side,[c] he has made him known. (John 1:16-18, ESV)

This week we heard the "Overture to Romans” (Paul's introduction in Romans 1:1–17). As in a musical before the curtain rises, the overture sets the mood and introduces motifs that are developed later in the play, and you hear familiar melodies from each scene or episode.

This episode is a re-airing of our 2023 episode for the feast of Christ the King. The Scripture readings for the Solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, invite us to interpret the Scriptures through a lens that is perhaps less common for this celebration. Agbonkhianmeghe Orobator, S.J, tries to imagine ways in which the readings for the last Sunday of the liturgical calendar, “can be perceived less as a hierarchical, patriarchal or monarchical depiction of who God is in Christ through the Spirit, and more about how God relates to us; in humility, in care, in tenderness.” Father Orobator, a Jesuit of the North-West Africa Province, is an internationally acclaimed theologian and a convert to Catholicism from traditional African religion. He is the dean at the Jesuit School of Theology at Santa Clara University. On this week's “Preach,” Orobator shares with host Ricardo da Silva, S.J., how thinking of the Gospels as stories can subvert hierarchical, monarchical, and even patriarchal readings of the Scriptures. The story of creation is the story of God's character. What God creates and how he creates reveals who he is. Yet this story is also a declaration that our God is truth. He creates out of love, to share his loving presence with his creation. His voice is powerful and is the designer that all creation listens to. He works to sustain creation by being actively involved in the world. Because God is loving, powerful, and just, creation responds with praise. They admire who God is and what he does, all the while inviting us to join their song. Message Delivered: 11/3/24
Our story of Daniel continues, as the king of Babalon, Nebuchadnezzar, calls on him to interpret a dream no one else can. At this time, God reveals himself to Daniel to give him the meaning of the Nebuchadnezzar's dream, an act only God could achieve. I. The Father's Work of Hiding II. The Father's Work of Revealing III. The Son's Work of Revealing
Message by Devin Burton, "Faith That Reveals God's Heart" as part of our "Heart of the Father" series. Message from September 01, 2024. Centralia Community Church, Centralia, WA. cccog.com In a culture where religious traditions ran deep, Jesus showed up differently. The religious leaders had turned the Old Testament law into an idol, so when Jesus walked out his faith practice in a new way it created tension. The way of Jesus showed that the covenant laws of the Old Testament pointed people to the heart of God. Where the religious leaders had created a structure built on legalism, Jesus set the example of placing God in the center of our faith. The way of Jesus leads to the heart of the Father.
Ever feel like you're being dealt blow after blow by life? Like being punished for something? How many people in our world feel ‘not loved'? ...the hurting, the broken... How do they feel? Like outcasts. Like they don't belong. But you know what? While we were still a mess and when we're in the middle of the tunnel of pain, Christ died for us. —Speaker: Andy Hancock
Since God is a spirit, he is invisible to the natural eye. In order to properly reveal himself to us, he fashioned his creation to reflect an accurate image of his divine attributes and power. The post Only a Biblical Cosmology Reveals God Properly appeared first on Third Peter.

You've seen the meme: ALIENS. Indeed, they always seem to be the answer to life's problems, but what if we could ask an ET a question? Scientists have now developed new technology to locate ETs. Will we find intelligent life? On that note, did Intelligent Design play a role in the making of the universe and life on this planet? SETI and Intelligent Design have an interesting relationship and this podcast covers the interplay between SETI, ID, and whether or not mere complexity is enough to infer design. This episode explores one of the most, if not the most pressing issue, are human beings alone; is there another intelligence out there?
If we're made for the beauty of God, how do we come to see it and be satisfied in it? In this episode of Light + Truth, that's the question John Piper answers from 2 Corinthians 3:7–11.

Bottom Line: Because God gave the Law to His people after he rescued them from Egypt, we know that the purpose of the law in not earn God's love; it is the expression of God's love. Scripture: Exodus 20; Romans 4:13; Romans 3:20 Three Purposes of God's Law: 1) To confirm God's love, not as condition of it. 2) Reveals God's values. 3) Reveals our need for grace and forgiveness. Truths: The more you understand God's law, the more you understand God and yourself. Every loving parent provides protective guardrails. Not to keep them from the good things, but to keep them for the best things. Today's Scripture: PROVERBS 30:18-19 Three things are too wonderful for me; four I do not understand: the way of an eagle in the sky, the way of a serpent on a rock, the way of a ship on the high seas, and the way of a man with a virgin.
In the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus taught what makes the gospel irresistible is God's compassion for all people. Those that others find reprehensible God finds irresistible. There is no price too high that God would not pay for any of us. We matter to God. We are priceless to Him! THE CHARACTERS IN THE PARABLE OF THE GOOD SAMARITAN… A Certain Man “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.”—Luke 10:30 The certain man represents us in our fallen condition—naked, wounded, and left for dead by sin and Satan. The Jewish Priest “Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.”—Luke 10:31 The Jewish priest pictures the Law of God. Keeping the Law—a list of “righteous works” cannot save you. The Levites “Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side.”—Luke 10:32 The Levites were keepers of religious rituals in the Jewish temple. “Religious works” cannot save you. The Good Samaritan “But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.”—Luke 10:33-34 The Good Samaritan represents God's heart of compassion while we were dead in our sins! Jesus paid a debt He did not owe for a price we could not pay! Though He was the sinless Son of God, He died for the sins of men. Let's go and show God's irresistible heart of compassion. Because to God, every person is priceless. Modern culture has become a breeding ground for lawlessness. In the wake of the heart-wrenching massacre at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, it seems as if Hell itself is permeating the Earth. If the end is drawing near, what else can we Biblically expect to experience in our lifetimes? Other questions considered and discussed in this sobering segment: Is there a relationship between God's church and Earth's moon? Why is Israel at the heart of so much international intrigue? What does it mean to find our own company? In the end, what, if anything, will compare to answering the soul-defining question: did we finish the assignment God gave us? Remember: “Pray not for victory but pray for leaders that can lead to victory in a manner that glorifies God.”
