Today, I'm speaking with copy-conversion expert Sage Polaris. We're discussing many fun things when it comes to copywriting to increase engagement with your community. As you know, I prefer to get to know the person behind the business and today's conversation is no exception. Enjoy. Sage shares with us her insights: “If things were not that different in the market right now, if there, wasn't inflation. I probably would have done the all-access pass again, and been good with that right. But you're right. There is this like - Oh, I keep wanting to change things to refresh my energy. But I think if something's working, it's one of the hardest things to do to just keep going with the thing that's working. And the one part that gives me a little solace, as I do that at like, keep the same offers year after year is to know, like my audience is changing like. Yes, there's people who have been with me for years and years and years, and I love up on them in my own way. And like, give them opportunities to continue to work with me. And there's a lot of new people who have never seen the thing that I've launched four rounds before. We're like brand new to it. They have no idea, so I keep them in mind, too. I'm like - I don't want to change things too much, because these new people are just, are going to be as excited as the other people from the last four rounds. Right? So I think it's a reconnection to understanding again who your audience is, and where their mindsets at, and meeting them where they're at…” “So I do think, though, like if I had learned to be an energetic match to those goals, I, you know, could have received more easily. And I think that's the work that we can do with our mind right, and is very powerful. It's like you, don't have to have actually received the money to feel like you've received the money. So even one of my friends, we use this voice messaging app, and we'll send each other messages back and forth, and we'll finish like a task we need to do in our business to lead to the next launch or whatever, and we'll prepay ourselves like Yup, I finish that task. I'm paying myself fifty thousand dollars for that today. So those types of things like learning to tap into the feeling of that money before it comes, or even the feeling of people being in my programs before they're actually there. It doesn't always have to be attaching yourself to the money right like you can start to feel into and pre celebrate people being in something that you're going to offer in the future and celebrating it before, like taking myself to a nice meal, you know, hanging out with friends, going in a boat right with my family before the money is there. That has really helped me as well, because it's that feeling again, like I already feel abundant. I already feel wealthy just by being able to share this with my family right now.” “And I kind of think of them as a triangle so the audience on the bottom, the offer in the middle of the copy at the top. I think the audience part is the most important first. It's surprisingly like I put it before the messaging right to have a good strategy to build that audience. So for me that evolution, like our last no-charge copy course that we did, we had thirty-seven hundred people sign up that broke all our records like we didn't expect that many. I had a good stretch goal that was near that number, but that was great. And what changed that specific launch though, was I was very, I had one question that I or not one question. I had one statement that I told myself right before that launch. I said, let no come from other places, not yourself, because I wanted to ask people to partner with me like we're talking about. And there was a hesitation of like not wanting to send the messages to people to ask them to help me launch this, right? So for me, that was a big thing like mindset-wise. Let no come from other places, not yourself like - make the asks. Do the things that are going to be uncomfortable that you think everyone's going to say no to you and just do it anyways…” Sage Polaris has written high converting copy for more than 400+ clients earning them millions of dollars. Today, I have a good fortune of interviewing the founder of Mind Movies, Natalie Ledwell. Natalie has been in the self-help genre for many years. She's talking today about the love attraction, about the ability to envision and manifests the things that you most want. Talking about her journey of starting her company, the success that she had and what she's done differently when she has built her business over time. I love this conversation. It was so fun to meet Natalie for the first time and I know you're going to love it. Enjoy. Natalie shares with us: “You know, I grew up in a country town. I'm one of eight kids. I grew up in Australia, and I get to live this incredible life, you know, reaching ten million people. Now, helping children around the world, and really a life far exceeded any of my expectations. So, it doesn't matter how old you are. It doesn't matter what your childhood was, where you live, where you came from, where you're going. None of that matters, because we all have the ability to manifest what it is that we want, And if you apply the formula, if you get clear about what you want, if you can see that, and you keep taking consistent action towards it, you can create anything that you want. And I am living proof of that. So you know, like I said it doesn't matter who you are, where you're from. You can do this…” Dame Natalie Ledwell is a bestselling author, host of the podcast, Not Over, Just Different, co-host of the cable TV show WAKE UP, and founder of Mind Movies, the hugely successful and revolutionary online Personal Development company that has reached over 10 million people worldwide. Today, I'm interviewing Gary Walstrom who is the founder of the company called Culture Index. His company helps companies ensure they have the right people in the right jobs. To do this you as the employer and the employee take a quick quiz and then you meet with experts from Culture Index to help you understand what's going on. Do you have the right person or is there someone else out there that would be better fit. Culture Index was originally born out of a person's desire to help people achieve greatness like they never knew they could. And, it has become an integral business strategy for over 3500 business leaders across virtually every industry. Enjoy. Gary shares: “...and that is, people are the most important things in all companies, not just some companies. When you look at a company, it has great people doing great jobs. There's nothing that will stop them from achieving all the goals that have ever been set for. It's the companies who think about, you know, the famous book love to great, and they think about other things they've written or scene. And then they get too attracted to some of that without looking at really information that's objective and say - well, maybe I'm kind of comfortable where I am and I go on. No, because see the people who frustrate you are the ones who are always non-performing. If you find all people in the company, they're all performing. Then success comes from everybody, because the people love what they do. They're being managed well at what they do. The company is being successful, but so is the human being being successful. They want to contribute. In other words, people today don't want to just do this and do this. In other words, they're looking for how they can make an impact on life. How can they make an impact on the world…” Gary Walstrom was born and raised in Iowa on a small farm until he went to college to study Veterinary Medicine. After two years, he went in to the military—Air Force and became a Russian Linguist with a Top Secret Cryptographic clearance. Upon leaving, he finished his college degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on Statistics and Accounting. Gary began working with assessments in the hiring and training of restaurant staff. He shortly thereafter became an Executive Advisor, working with Entrepreneurial companies; educating them through a process of Executive Workshops to be more capable of making good human decisions by understanding who the person really is; what motivates them and drives them to succeed. He then began working with Louis Janda, a clinical Psychologist, test builder to build him the Culture Index Instrument for business consultative purposes. Today, there are 75 people around the US, Advising Executives on how to better manage their human capital, grow their top line and bottom line, while scaling their business. Today, I'm interviewing my friend Mostafa Hosseini. He is talking about follow-up. So if you are a business owner, if you're in sales, if you're in pretty much any kind of business. You work for one or you own your own business. I feel like this will be a helpful conversation especially if an aspect of what you do involves sales. Mostafa is going to talk about the psychology of selling and the importance of follow-up. I love this conversation, so many breakthroughs. I felt like everyone I know, all the business owners out there could really benefit from this conversation. Enjoy. Mostafa shares with us his insight: “Hey? What's going on? What's happening in your life? What's going on with business? Are you happy with the products and services that we are providing? Again, depending on the portion of the list that we're calling. And then we always ask for a referral. That's the last question. 'John, who do you know that is having problems with their follow up? Who do you know that is having problems with their mortgage? Who do you know that is having problem with their neck or back? Right? And then, we always ask for a referral. If you ask that question every three or four months, you're like training and educating your audience to refer to you, and you're reminding them every three or four months. So you're creating a referral machine…” Mostafa Hosseini is the founder of Persyo Inc and creator of: Simple Retention Formula, Simple Marketing Formula, Simple Offer Formula. Today, I am sharing an interview I had with Joyce Marter. Joyce wrote a book about fixing your financial mindset and she's a licensed therapist. Her book is a combination of what she's learned in helping people as a therapist and also through her own journey of being a business owner and now a speaker. I appreciate Joyce's vulnerability in sharing you know what it's like to face our issues around money and go on to actually write a book that helps people change their relationship with money. Enjoy. Joyce shares with us this insight: “And for me, I remember when my business was in that cash flow hell. I even lost my business partner. It was a terrible time of my life. I thought I was going to have to file business bankruptcy. And I went to a CPA that was recommended by a friend, and I was crying when I handed him my Quickbooks file. And he said - Joyce, you truly have a cash flow problem. Your business model works, and I can help you get the proper lending. But as he looked at my Quickbooks file, he did a little intervention, and he said - You're not running a charity to employ therapist, and you deserve to make a profit. And I realized that I had a lot of co-dependent behaviors, people-pleasing behavior, detrimental care-taking at the expense of my health and well-being. I took care of everyone else before myself until I was exhausted, depleted, and burned out. And that had to change. And that was the beginning of my transformation personally and professionally. And with the help of so many others, I was able to turn the ship around. And unbelievably, not even seven years later, I was able to successfully exit my business...” Joyce Marter is a licensed psychotherapist, entrepreneur, national public speaker, and a mental health thought leader. Today, I'm interviewing Liam Austin. Liam is the co-founder and CEO of Entrepreneurs Headquarters/HQ. We are talking about his journey of starting his business about 7 years ago and the success that he had. A phenomenal success like why. We're going to unpack what happened. What allowed him to build a huge email list to be marketing with some of the biggest digital marketers in the world. What did he learn along the way. How has it helped transform him, his business. And also his goal of having this location independent business that he and his partner had built over that time. I know you're going to be writing down notes. I sure was. So much good information shared if you own a business. You're going to really find this helpful. Enjoy. Liam shares with us this insight: “Like literally, we weren't selling anything. People were asking us like - Hey, can you help me with my my LinkedIn strategy? I was like - No, I don't have anything like that. I'm not. I don't even want to do that like I'm not the expert. Go speak to this guy over here. So this system was built to build your authority and get people reaching out to you versus you trying to push something on to someone that doesn't want something. Like no one wants that. You want your business to be easy where there's just this in flow. A flood of people just requesting your services. Right? That's the dream. And that's literally what happened with this system that we built around - running a virtual event, making sure, I mean, we've been more strategic about this now. But we've been doing this for so long. But how do we create the journey during the event? So we really do showcase our expertise, build that rapport that trust with the audience. They get to experience what it's like to work with us. They want more of us so they're reaching out, or they're putting up their hand. And we do say that now like - Hey, we do have a next step for you. We can support you for longer than this 90-minute workshop or this multi-day conference. And, if you'd like to have that discussion, just you know, raise your hand now. Put a thumbs up or reply to this email and put a comment Yes. And we'll reach out to you and we can book in a time to have a further discussion of what it's like to actually work together to help you get more results.” Liam Austin is the co-founder of Entrepreneurs HQ and a virtual event strategist, having launched over 15 virtual summits, dozens of quick workshops, and many more online events, hosting over 400 speakers whilst educating 100,000+ business owners through his programs. Virtual Events That Sell is his 6-week implementation program which makes it easy for you to create your own high impact virtual events, from workshops and masterminds to summits and conferences, with the end goal of selling more of your high-ticket offer (includes how to blueprint, validate and sell your new program.) Liam is also the creator of the Million Dollar Virtual Summit Program, where he partners with select clients to generate seven figures. Today, I'm interviewing Dr. Rachel Gainsbrugh. Rachel is a specialist in luxury short-term rentals. We're talking about her journey of being a pharmacist and starting to invest in real estate. And ultimately realizing that she loved it and wanted to spend more time doing it. She has left her full-time position and does consulting now in the pharmaceutical world. And she focuses on these luxurious short-term rentals, teaching people how to do the same. Such a fun conversation. I know you're going to take away a lot especially if you're interested in someday having a short-term rental or maybe you already do. I have learned so many things from this great conversation. Enjoy. Dr. Rachel shares with us her insights: I think as healthcare professionals, we sometimes get the shorter end of the stick right. Everyone's like - 'Oh, she's so fancy. She's got all this money coming in'. But they don't see the fourteen hours work, the night shift, the moonlighting, the missing out on family milestones. And I knew there has to be another way other than just working more shifts and working more shifts like there are no more shifts left for not to work awhile, you know. There's not enough dollars, you know; hours to trade for, you know, dollars, not hours. And so that's really where it all started, and me wanting to just cut back a little bit right. You don't go into medicine to walk away from medicine; wanted to cut back; wanted to schedule life on my own terms; work the date that I wanted to work. And I wanted to not buy another job. So the business that I selected to go into and I went all in. It was short-term rental investing, specifically - luxury short-term rental investing. And it doesn't have to, you know, cost an arm and a leg to go luxury, and we can talk about that. But the reason I want luxury is, I felt as though the numbers made sense. I can get a bigger bang for my buck. We just have to manage less right. Less is more. So, I wanted to take it a little bit on a minimalistic approach. I didn't want to manage, you know, twenty doors or a whole bunch of tenants. I said - 'Well, what if I just got one? What if I just got two?'. And we did wrote a portfolio with the systems and the health, you know. We got up to twenty two. We're down to eighteen. For us, you know, anything around five or six is more than enough right. And so less is more for me for sure. But that's really why I went into luxury short-term rental investing out of all of the real estate strategies out there. Absolutely. And you know, the flow or lack there of that I was afraid of, or I was anticipating. Well, you know, well that steady, wonderful, cushiony golden handcuffs paycheck is not going to come in. I was able to more than four X my income, my annual income in just a short amount of time, you know. So, from focusing on multiple things, I was able to get laser focus and look at some gaps, rearranged some things both in the real estate portfolio as well as in the coaching. And it was really never about the money. It was definitely a mindset in my situation. And I'm just in awe. I'm still in awe because there's so much pleasure that comes out of that teaching and really helping others who are medical professionals burnt out like I was, you know. Get that breakthrough right? And what happens when they get that breakthrough? They tell their friends -'Hey, Rachel, you know, is on to something, and you know membership, you know growth and just being able to pour into that community. That's first and foremost, you know, my goal. And you know, money flows. The more people you help, the more money comes in. Absolutely, absolutely. And even as I was still thinking about her, even as I was telling her - 'Okay, that was an anomaly. What I told her, and I see the text because I just reviewed it, because, you know, 8K. Maybe 10K. 16K. That was anomaly. Well, she did it again, and then she did - 'Oh my goodness!'. Even with the attitude of abundance that I try to push for, I still have my own limiting belief, and I just sat back. And I was like, you know what, let me sit down and be quiet because here I am with like a thimble XL, right? But it was blowing in. So you're absolutely right, Leisa. Oh, my goodness! And I always pray, and that's something that I'm really passionate about. Because initially, like you said, I thought - 'Oh, maybe this is... I shouldn't tell people about this because these numbers seem outrageous, right? And the reason I do tell the shore is I want to inspire. And I want others to have even better deals than I could ever dream of. And I tell myself, I pray that you have better deals that I could ever hope for. And when they come back and they're showing me deals like - 'Yes, yes, yes, yes, and I love to showcase that because it's not just a Rachel thing, you know. Even I was thinking - 'Oh, maybe this isn't just a Rachel thing, because this is weird. But it's out there. It really is. Born in Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, Dr. Rachel was driven to make a difference and not take her parents' sacrifices for granted. She was raised in the inner-city of Miami where she worked hard, got straight A's and went on to get her doctorate. Unfortunately, financial literacy was not part of the curriculum—and she graduated with a whopping $500,000 in student loan debt. She struggled, burned the candle at both ends, worked multiple extra hospital shifts to pay it off… until she discovered real estate and digital courses. Fast forward to now, Dr. Rachel is a semi-retired pharmacist, Luxury AirBNB Real Estate Investor, Educator, Public Speaker, Podcast Host, Course Creator, Coach, and a mom to two boys 24/7! She's also a newly minted best-selling contributing author & filmed for a Netflix TV show highlighting her property (air date and show name TBD—so stay tuned for updates!) Rachel is “all-in” on short-term rentals because it helped her husband to retire at 46 from a stressful psychotherapy practice. And now she's semi-retired from pharmacy at 41! She believes that no other real estate strategy would have afforded her this early and abundant exit. But what excites her the most is the 47 medical professionals she's helped ditch burnout by launching their VERY own profit-generating luxury short-term rental. And that number will only continue to go up! She runs a concierge coaching program, powered by her digital course, The Luxury Short-Term Rental Academy, designed to help medical professionals grow their investments by adding just ONE luxury short-term rental to their portfolio. Her approach is contrary to most real-estate coaching “gurus”—Rachel teaches her students how to own and operate the FEWEST number of properties to generate the HIGHEST profitability. She reveals how to accomplish this in less than 4 hours a week so they can have the time, freedom and financial stability to live life on their own terms, however that looks like for them! Ultimately, Dr. Rachel's mission is to impact the financial wellness of over 1M women in healthcare so that they can thrive in their personal life while taking their patient care to incredible new heights. I'm so happy to introduce you to my guest, Lisa Bloom. Over the last 15 years, Lisa has created her company out of a simple idea. The idea that stories are powerful. They are possibly the most powerful form of influence and persuasion ever. Today, we're talking about mastering the art of storytelling in your business, in your life, how that can show up in ways that it can help you to make a bigger impact to close more sales, to develop trust and so much more. I know you're going to enjoy this conversation. And I can't wait to hear your takeaways. Enjoy. Lisa shares with us her insights: Suddenly they began to open up; and they began to talk; and they began to actually interact and meet my eye. Meet each other's eye. Laugh. And suddenly we could open up a conversation because the story bridged the gap plus created trust in me. I was a human being. I was a real person. I had the same challenges and the same experiences that they had when suddenly they trusted me. They were open, and you know, they opened up, and I can tell you it was one of the training experiences that they told me later that they never forgot. And it wasn't because of what I taught them. It was because of the stories and I saw this happen again and again and again. And so, as we run our own businesses whenever you want to create engagement, whenever you want to build trust, you know, one of the most effective ways to do that is through story. And while you're doing that you're creating credibility and you're giving them your history. And that you're giving them your all the highlights of your career. Like you don't have to say, you don't have to list off your resume. You just tell a story, and they understand... And I have come to see. Yes, there are a very small percentage of people who are, you know, born storytellers. But, like the people who are great at telling jokes, they don't have to try. They just got this humor, you know, there are people like that. But it's not the majority by far. But what I have seen is that everybody's telling stories all the time. It's what happens around the dinner table. It's what happens in meetings. It's what happens in any social environment. We're naturally storytelling animals. That's what we do and so much so that there's now a lot of neuroscience to talk about the impact of story and how it affects us. And you know, we are as a species, we're trying to make meaning all the time. And one of the ways we do that is through story. I had a challenge many years ago when I was starting out. I had a marketing coach who said to me - 'Lisa, if you want to build an audience, you need to tell a story every week in a block and send it out to your audience'. And my first reaction was my life isn't that interesting like where am I going to find this story every single week. That's insane. And she just said - 'I trust you. I think it'll be fine. Go for it'. And I did. And for ten years religiously, on a Tuesday, I would send out a story to my list. And I built a list of thousands and thousands of people. The main way I built my list was through telling stories once a week for ten years. I found the stories and it wasn't that my life suddenly got more interesting. It was just that I was able to take stock of these moments where something happened that made me feel something. And there's a story in there and we all have these moments. So it's about learning to become aware of them; learning to share them. And of course, there's art in the art of storytelling. Of course. We become better, but we become better as we practice. You learn the skills, and then you apply it in your business. You apply it to every part of your business because wherever there's a story, it's going to be more engaging, and it's going to be more memorable. So I always believed in that. And then it was a matter of figuring out- 'Okay, well, how do I turn it into a business? And how do I make it pay me what I need it to pay me. And how do I take the next step when things go wrong and I'm all alone. Then nobody gets what I'm doing because you know that's the case for most entrepreneurs. You're very much in love with that. And how do I, kind of step by step, find the kindred spirits that I can share this with them, that I could talk to? And how do I find the clients that are willing to pay me? And how do I, you know, I had to figure all that stuff out. But I kept going because I think I just believed in it. I always believed in possibility. Maybe, I'm a kind of an optimist and a hopeful person in my nature. But that's not to say it hasn't been difficult. There were times where I was literally on the floor - 'I think I just can't do this anymore. This is so hard, so hard it didn't work'. Whatever it was I was trying to do. And then somebody would offer a hand. Somebody would suggest - 'Well, why don't we look at what happened and see if we can fix it, or why don't I share something with my audience'. Or, there was always somebody who helped lift me up, who guided me, who I was willing to kind of surrender and say - 'Okay, I'll just try this thing because I don't know what else to do'... Well, I guess first and foremost, I've become a role model to my sons. You know I always thought I would have daughters. I was always this, you know, big feminists thinking I would bring up this great strong women. And I ended up with four sons. And so becoming a business owner or a successful business owner, and I think I'm a fantastic role model for them. So they see women who can do that, who can really find something they're passionate about, and that they love and want to be successful. So I think that's probably the first thing that comes to my mind when you say who I've become. But I also, I've become very, quite driven. I mean, maybe I was always driven. But I think, driven in terms of I know there are things I can do that I want to do. And the more the business grows, the more I'm able to do it... I'm so happy to share this conversation about overcoming defensiveness with Lisa Merlo-Booth. I've had the good fortune to work with Lisa and help her in her business and last spring I offered to help her with a workshop she was hosting. During the middle of this workshop I had a breakthrough that I actually needed this class and we're talking about what I learned about myself. Lisa is a relationship coach and a specialist in helping improve communication between partners. Her work has improved my life so much and I really wanted her to come and talk about it for everyone to learn how it could perhaps improve your life too. Enjoy. Lisa shares with us her insights: You can change. You have to be willing to look at yourself. And most people are looking at the other people in their life, and saying - 'Look, if you didn't yell at me, I wouldn't cower. Or if you weren't, you know, controlling me all the time, I wouldn't yell. And so they're constantly trying to get the other person to change which is where they have zero power. And so, once they realize- 'Okay, wait a second'. I have a saying - Changing me changes we. So changing me will change your marriage; changing me, will change your children; changing me will change your life right? And what people do, though, is they want to change the other person thinking if you would stop doing ... we would be okay. And I wouldn't have to do what I'm doing. Right? So you just stop, and then it'll fix us. First off, you could wait till hell freezes over before they decide they want to stop. Right and that's a lot of wasted years. And two, you can't make them do anything. And so, once people realize where their power is and they start focusing in the right place that their change can really happen quick. So if you're unhappy in some situation, you have the power to change it. I have a saying - You are one hundred percent responsible for the life you create; the life you allow; or the life you sabotage. So what are you doing? If you have this vision, I want us to be a great family, a great couple. I want my business to be wonderful. You know, run smoothly. What are you doing? What are you allowing that is going against that vision. Or, what are you doing that is actively sabotaging that vision? You have control of all that. So I don't know, you know, it's funny. I struggled with defensiveness for a long time. And as I worked through it and got better, I don't know if this is, if you are feeling this at all. But right now, like now, it is so freeing to be like - 'Oh, my gosh, my bad! I'm so sorry'. It's like I just feel it's like oxygen and I don't feel that like toxic shame. I'm just like, you know, like - 'Oh, I screwed it up again. Oh, my gosh! I promise I'm going to fix this like and it feels lighter to me. And my family can talk to me and like - 'Yeah, it's just such a, I don't know. It's like a weight gets lifted because you have the template. You know how to do it, and you also, I don't know, you just start to realize - 'Oh, everybody screws up.' It's like the human condition. You absolutely cannot not screw up. And that's not the problem actually. You're screwing up isn't the problem. The problem is doubling down on that and pretending you didn't screw up or not having the conversation, because you don't want it. So then, it just goes underground and becomes a bigger mess up. But as far as like humanity and relationships and jobs, I got news for you. You are going to screw up so much, so much. And to be able to say like - 'You're right. I really mess that up. It's so freeing'. It actually brings you closer. It's more intimate. It's crazy. It's like - 'Oh, yeah, I hurt you.' And then, they're like - 'Oh, I feel so loving towards you right now.' It's like a crazy irony, you know. And of course, you know there's a whole way of doing it. But it truly is like when you know your partner is able to, or best friend or mom, or whoever they're able to hear the feedback, own it like, own their piece, without any blame or anything else. You genuinely. You feel heard. You feel closer. And you're like - 'Oh, wow!'. And by the way, they look tougher, stronger. It's just so much more capable. And you're like - 'Oh, they can handle it.' Oh, no, I can say that to my mom. She's got this yeah, instead of them protecting you by not saying it. It's a crazy irony. But you actually it feels more intimate when you're able to find the courage to own your actions than it does to deny them. Everywhere. But I can't think of a place where there isn't natural conflict. That's the other thing like natural. We're human beings. We make mistakes. The moment you make a mistake; the moment you hurt somebody; the moment, you say you're going to pick up the milk and you don't. You say you're going to be at work on time, and you're not at work on time. That's an issue that needs to be addressed. And you're human. Those issues are going to come up. I don't care who you are. I don't care how amazing you are, you still can't be perfect. And so you know we need instead of running from conflict, we need to go into it, and then we'll walk through it and feel better because of it. But our world does not see it as that at all. We, many people see feedback as an attack, right? And oh, my goodness, think of the freedom you would have and feel if you saw, I say feedback as a gift. If you literally saw feedback as oxygen to help you grow, and like was, and you know, encouraged it. It's just life changing. Today, I'm interviewing Samantha Riley. She's an authority positioning strategist, author, speaker, host of Influence by Design podcast. And, she's built multiple businesses over the past 28 years. Today, we're talking about Human Design and how that fits in to the coaching business she's built. It's a super fun conversation. You've heard me talk about Human Design before in the past. It's something I have found a lot of enjoyment with. It helped me understand myself better as an entrepreneur, as a leader, things that really took the pressure of off me. I'm a generator which means that I create ideas differently than manifesting generators and what was really funny is that Samantha is a generator as well. So, we're going to be talking about our experiences with Human Design as coaches, as business-coaches and so much more. Enjoy. Samantha shares with us her insights: People strategy and authority. So strategy is the way that they're designed to respond to the world. So the way that this plays out for people is understanding, maybe, how they marketing or maybe how they're attracting all sorts of opportunities into their world so that would be one piece. And the authority which is the way that we're designed to make decisions. And, this has a profound impact on a lot of people as well because we're taught through, you know, from the time that we're born that we make decisions by thinking where we're using our brains to work through a process. But we're actually designed to make decisions from the neck down. We're designed to feel the decisions. And this is a really different dynamic to, you know, what we've been taught. And this is certainly had an impact in the way that I do business because as a pure generator, I get this message in my sacral. This just happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I had someone on the phone, who was an emotional authority. We had a very quick conversation. She went- 'yep, let's see I want to work with you'. And I went - 'you know what I said, I know that we're going to be amazing together, but I actually want you to go and think about. I'm going to touch base with you again tomorrow. She went - 'But why?' And I went - 'because I feel really confident that I can help you. I know that you're going to get amazing results with me, but I want you to feel comfortable with that decision.' And, she actually she did sign up and she messaged me the next day and just went - 'I just felt so good in knowing that I had. I was empowered to make that decision and I felt comfortable.' And she was brand new to human design, so I hadn't experienced that before and instead of having this relationship that started off with a lot of friction. It meant that we started off a relationship with a lot of trust and a lot of confidence. And it makes so much difference when you can start working with a client in that way. I really do think it's worth looking into human design. So that you can start to understand where the friction points are. When you understand, you know what you're here designed to do, how you're designed to interact with the world. It makes a lot easier and what it does, when you know these things it gives you the confidence. And as business owners people buy confidence. So when you know what those pieces are, energetically, it just aligns. And people will suddenly be attracted to you or they will start to search you out rather than you trying on other people's strategies or the way that they do things on. And go through this trial and error of - 'I did that and it didn't work and I did that and it didn't work'. Just to really understand the way you're designed so that you can start to be unapologetically who you are meant to be because there are not two of us on the planet that's the same. So, yet we still try and do things like other people. So to really lean into who you are and just really embrace that and embrace the difference, rather than get frustrated with the difference. Samantha Riley is an authority positioning strategist, best selling author, speaker, host of the Influence By Design podcast. She has built multiple businesses over the past 28 years, and grew her first 7-figure business from the ground up before she was 30. Today, I'm interviewing my good friend, past client Molly Rose Speed. She is someone who knows everything you could hope to know being a VA; hiring a VA. She actually does many different things in her business. She has the ability to teach you if you want to become a VA. She can take you down the path of not just getting started but also having clients in like less than a month. She talks about that. Amazing! She also talks about what we want to be thinking about when we hire a VA as a business owner. What should you know when you hire a VA? If it's not working out, how do you shift and pivot? What can you do to prepare yourself to make sure that the VA that you have is totally showing up in the way you most need help. I love Molly Rose Speed. I'm so excited for you to dive into this conversation and take lots away. Enjoy. Molly shares with us her insights: And then, I'm also going to trust your gut. That's super important when you're hiring at all times and also have have that trial period with them. Get to know them. Give them, if you're working on like a major launch probably don't give them something really heavy like that. Start small and get to know them. And then, build that trust and make sure that their execution is going well. And lastly, regarding follow through, I think communication is key in any relationship. But especially, when you're working virtually in this assistant business owner role. So, by having those Monday check-ins where you're both on the same page… And it's amazing the different types of people that want those different types of interaction. So, we asked all those questions. So as a business owner, it's super important to be clear before you hire. You know what, not only what skillsets do they need to have and what tasks are you going to ask of them on a regular basis, and what software do they need to know. But really think about the type of person that you want, as what I call a partner in your business that's going to come in and love your business, just as you do. Hopefully, if you place the right person there. First of all, it is, by far, in my opinion, the most flexible job on the planet where you can set your own rate. You can work what hours you want. Unless you get a client that needs you from eight to five or you have to be on these certain calls, you know, you work that out. But it's so great, you know stay at home moms love this. Military spouses. I do have a lot of side hustlers so you can literally plug in from six to ten in the morning. Do your thing from ten to two. And then, pick the kids up and have your night or work after dinner. I mean it's so flexible. You can do project work too, if you're just trying to fill in the gaps, eventually, once you kind of learn things. So, that is extremely doable if you're trying to build your own business and want to have some income coming in, on the side… ...Yeah and just to put this into my own personal perspective, you know I shared my story. I started I didn't know and so I left. I mean, you know this personally, I left hundred thousands of dollars on the table by not knowing my worth; by not knowing how to charge right; by not having the right contracts in place; not offering the services, I actually really wanted to offer. I did a lot of work, I didn't want to do because I just took what I could. So, there was a lot of pain in growth going at the beginning. And if I had had something like this and that's why I created it, it would just have been all ready to go. Here we go! I'm a professional certified virtual assistant. And here's my one sheet; and here's how you can hire me; and here's my contract. Just all done in a matter of weeks, and would have saved years of time, stress and wondering and money, money... Molly Rose Speed is an expert in creating what everyone wants more of -- time freedom. Through her methods of intelligent systems, automation, and outsourcing, you'll experience another 10-15 hours per week of freedom and flexibility. As the founder of Virtual Assistant Management which provides trusted Virtual Assistant solutions and flawless tech execution for busy entrepreneurs, Molly Rose is the go-to professional for some of the most successful entrepreneurs and leaders in the financial and personal development industries. Today, I'm so pleased to be introducing you to Dr. Maria Nemeth. Dr. Maria is a leading expert in leadership excellence, in professional, personal development, and financial empowerment. Her work has been featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show and Inc Magazine. She's the Founder & Director of the Academy for Coaching Excellence and she's the Author of the highly-acclaimed book, The Energy of Money: A Spiritual Guide to Financial and Personal Fulfillment. I walked away from this conversation inspired, knowing that, you know, we're each on our own path but there are always people we can be learning from and Dr. Maria is one of those people. It's such a fun conversation. I can't wait to hear what you takeaways from it. Enjoy. Dr. Maria shares with us her beautiful insights: I thought about it and thought about it and read some other spiritual books. And I was able to distill it down into these four words. The last three are - 'I am willing'. 'I am willing', you see. You can be willing to do something you don't know how to do. You can be willing to do something that you're afraid to do. You can be willing to do something that bores you to do. But 'I am willing' takes you up above the worries, doubts, fears, thoughts, feelings, attitudes of states of mind and points of view. It takes us all above that. And the first word to put in before those three is 'nevertheless'. 'Nevertheless, I am willing' are the four most powerful words, you can utter. Nevertheless, means don't take anything away, nevertheless. And if you were to write down these four words, don't type them on a computer and then print them out. No, no, no. In your handwriting - 'Nevertheless, I am willing'. And put it, where your brain can see it every day for at least the next 30 days every day. Everyday. And I could go, I could tell you why, if we had three hours. Why want to keep in front of your brain but suffice it to say your brain will start recognizing this and you'll find that you're taking it in. So that when you're faced with a money problem. And you say, I'm just too guilty to face it. You say - 'Nevertheless I'm willing'. Because I'm interested, more interested in my dreams than my drama. So that's just the bottom line of what I would say. For all of us who have these money worries. So these three factors - taking energy, change, and unpredictability, those are the three attributes of a good game. I mean, think of a tennis, football, poker. Energy. Change. Unpredictability. And the most important thing for us to do is know that this is going to happen. See, one of the things that happens with entrepreneurs is they start opening a business and they hit an obstacle, and the first thing they'll say is 'this wasn't meant to be'. No, that's not true. You're going to hit obstacles. I mean really haven't you hit obstacles in your own business? Of course, of course. But the question is this, am I willing to learn from these obstacles you know? Nelson Mandela, who all of us think is the best right? He had the saying. He said - 'I never lose. I only win or learn...' Today, I'm having a conversation with my friend, Simone Griffin. We're talking about the recent overturning of Roe vs. Wade and some of the considerations that we have in our own lives is the importance of economic freedom for women. Simone and Leisa shares with us their insights: Simone: The more we can stop, quiet the noise, not listen to divide, and figure out - 'Okay, what are you actually; what is your experience; what is your lived experience? I think the better we can do. But that is not promoted right now. That's very high. And the other side of it is, far too many of us live in very segregated societies with which we interact with only those that we know that are just lots of guts. That does not foster growth at all. And, again this goes beyond politics. This is just individuals here. If I never took the opportunity to get to know you then I am not going to understand life from your perspective. Doesn't mean I'm going to adopt. Maybe/maybe not. But I can at least learn from you. And unfortunately, we're so in our own little bubbles often. And I will include myself in this unless I remember to snap out of it. We remain in our bubbles and that allows us to divide even more. We just have to be mindful of that. Leisa: The idea that we can honor and respect one another's beliefs and values. They don't have to be our own, but that doesn't mean that we don't respect them. And that, perhaps, is why we're so passionate about the divisiveness. I mean passionate not in a good way. Like because we're watching people that were pretty darn certain if they were putting a room as tending a party together, they could find plenty of things that would connect them and allow them to be like we are so similar. And yet there are a few beliefs that are different. But the idea that those beliefs start to govern the whole. What's different about us governs us versus what's similar about us. That is what I think we're witnessing in this country... Simone Griffin believes that everyone holds the power and capacity to become financially successful and sustainable. Simone currently serves as Vice President of Affiliate Relations for HomeFree-USA, where she oversees compliance, federal and private funding, and Congressional advocacy for 53 affiliate organizations nationwide. She also implements federal government grants, as well as those from various funders and private banks. Throughout the housing crisis, Simone managed a program which acquired, renovated and sold foreclosed homes to low-to-moderate income families. During her tenure, the program placed over 412 first time homebuyers into newly refurbished homes. Prior to becoming Vice President of Affiliate Relations, Simone served as Executive Director of the HomeFree-USA Homeownership Center in Atlanta, Georgia. In that role, she provided oversight and guidance to a team of Homeownership Advisors and Support Staff in general operations and the execution of foreclosure counseling, homebuyers' education, downpayment qualification, and the acquisition, renovation, and sale of bank-owned homes in Metro Atlanta. She also headed all local marketing and advertising initiatives. Prior to joining HomeFree-USA Simone served as Director of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF, Inc) Student Homeownership Opportunity Program (SHOP) and SHOP For Wealth. Both programs were designed to encourage homeownership and wealth building opportunities among students at the nation's Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Over three years, Simone visited and worked with 60 colleges and universities. 10 students went on to purchase a home within one year of college graduation, and hundreds more took the first steps to repairing their credit and building wealth. In her 20 year career in housing and financial services, Simone has seen what has worked, what hasn't, and the best ways to ensure a win-win-win for the consumer, mortgage industry and government. She's been on the ground serving Americans during incredibly pivotal times, and fully believes that we all win when we find the common ground. Today, my interview is with Jordan Grumet who also goes by Doc G. As a hospice doctor who teaches people and inspires people about their relationship with money, Jordan paved a path to questioning many assumptions about money and the pursuit of happiness. In our conversation, Doc is sharing what he's discovered along his life journey and how that relates to living a better life, to making better choices for yourself and why he decided to write his new book, Taking Stock. I think it is life-changing for so many people when you take a step back and question the assumptions you are making and decide how you can not only have a better relationship with money but live more fully as a result. Enjoy. Doc G shares with us his insights: We have all these things that we wish we did. Why do we wait til we're dying to come to terms with others, right? It's a very common thing for people who are dying to do something called the LIFE review and come to terms with who they are, and what their life was about and what they regretted, and what they found joy. But what if we could do that way earlier? Like your mom and the sense, I think she's giving that gift to you. She's saying it's too late for me. But you can now go back and take some of what I've been feeling and integrate into your life now. And my belief is that we all should be doing that. We should all have a little bit of that perspective of hospice patients. So that we can start looking at our life now and trying to figure out what is important. What should we be spending our time doing; how do we have enough economic resources to use money as a tool, instead of a goal and use it as that tool to then do things that give us a sense of purpose identity and connections. The first one is, you have to think about purpose identity and connections before you start considering and worrying about money and wealth. I think if you don't do that, you find yourself changing what you believe are chasing what you believe our economic needs and you're not fulfilling your souls needs. So you end up wealthy on the outside, but rather bankrupt on the inside, or at least feeling fairly poor because you don't know what you really want to focus on in life. So, first and foremost, I think you need to really think about purpose identity and connections, what do you want your life to be about? What are your goals? What are your bucket list? And, I think you need to think about that at the beginning of your career. That's part one. Part two is then you need to set up a financial framework to fit within that purpose and identity. So now, I know, who I want to be in what's important to me. How can I build a financial life? And for me, I'm very interested in financial independence. How can I pursue financial independence? But do it in such a way in a framework that speaks to what I thought my purpose and identity were. ...answering this basic question of whether you're worried that you're not going to have enough time to spend it. You're going to die young or you're going to live for a long time and worried about running out of money. I think, if you can answer that last question, you can then put that all into perspective of what you want out of life. Because the idea again it all comes back to we want money to be a tool to get us to our goals. We don't want it to be a goal because money itself or wealth it never really made anyone happy. But what it allows us to do, which is kind of trying to figure out who we are, what our purpose; what gives us meaning; what kind of things we want to strive towards; that's what we want to use our money to do for us. That makes me happy so in the book I call that the climb. This idea of making headway towards something that's deeply important to you. It's a joke, we have in my family. I always tell my kids may you never reach your dreams, but may you get 90% there. And that's kind of my my thought is that I think it's really great to keep on striving towards something that really matters to you. But sometimes getting to that thing you thought that was important is not nearly as fun as the climb to get there. Medical School is a perfect example. Becoming a doctor was awesome and amazing. But I have to tell you, some of my greatest years were I when I was in the act of becoming. Because it was this goal, I was getting closer and closer, but it was still just out of reach. And talk about waking up every morning and being excited, something changes when you actually get to that goal. It just doesn't feel the same. So this act of becoming; this act of being in the midst of the climb; this act of enjoying the process, I think, is what true happiness really looks like. Jordan Grumet was born in Evanston, Illinois in 1973. His interest in becoming a doctor was ignited when his father, an oncologist, died unexpectedly in the prime of life. This profound loss not only inspired him to practice medicine, it has given him a unique perspective as a financial expert, challenging him to think deeply and critically about concepts like wealth, abundance, and financial independence. After graduating from the University of Michigan, Jordan received his medical degree from Northwestern University, and began practicing Internal Medicine in Northbrook, Illinois. He currently is an associate medical director at Journeycare Hospice. After years of blogging about financial independence and wellness, Jordan launched the Earn & Invest podcast in 2018. In 2019 he received the Plutus Award for Best New Personal Finance Podcast and was nominated in 2020 and 2021 for Best Personal Finance Podcast of the year. His book, Taking Stock: A Hospice Doctor's Advice on Financial Independence, Building Wealth, and Living a Regret-Free Life is being published by Ulysses Press in August 2022. Today, I'm interviewing Kristin Swanson. Kristin and I are talking about the 'Someday when projects'; how we can bring them into reality. We're going to explore what is this 'someday when' and how do you know if you have one and you're putting it off. And what you can do if you want to take steps to bring it into reality. Super fun conversation. Enjoy. Kristin shares with us her insights: Talking about why do you want this, you know what's the feeling that you want to feel when it's done because it's really The important thing. And then, following those soul nudges, the guidance you get from the universe; and fall understanding that even sometimes and what I find lately I'm just getting very, very clear about this when people say what they want out loud, like just it happens so fast. You say it out loud what I want. I want to launch a podcast. I want to, whatever your big thing is - write a book. And then it's so fast. Something will happen that kind of feels messy. I call it like the messy middle. Like I believe the universe is like lining up and because I think those desires were planted in you for a reason. And then, you say it out loud and then you like kind of happens; and stuff gets messy; and it doesn't feel good. It doesn't feel like what you want. But in the end, it is guiding you there, if you will. If that makes sense. And this could happen in the form of losing a job or something happening with your spouse or your partner. These things are big, right, scary things. But in the end, you look back and it was like a path to that feeling that you wanted to feel. Yes, yes, because I think that's really what we're after. You're not usually just after the brand new house or the whatever the big, you know, the big move that you're going to move to a different city. That kind of thing. It's usually because you want to feel what you want to feel free. Or, you want to feel abundant or whatever that feeling is that you want to feel. And then, the actual because I think sometimes the actual end outcome is better than you could have ever imagined. And so why not let it be the feeling, because it could be even better than what you're after or what you thought about... Yes, yes, exactly and really teaching that consistent action and consistently trusting yourself. I mean, I think that's kind of my goal is to leave people with the tools and strategies to trust themselves and their own inner guidance or their guidance they're getting from the universe. And, they will, yes, keep going because there might be something else too. Right. That's the next someday when project and be able to use those strategies as they keep going again and again. Yeah, but a lot of times it's getting started because we aren't even starting a lot of times. A lot of times, people aren't even saying the thing out loud. It's still inside. To those important versus urgent things like the urgent things are the emails coming in from your client or your kids' school or all that stuff. Right, that's not going to go away. But, prioritizing this important thing is important to you at the beginning of the day. And just watching the compound effect when you keep doing that repeatedly. And the fact that it doesn't, in our brains, overcomplicate things. And say, it's kind of reminds me of that book atomic habits, where you know, people will say - it's too easy. It can't be that easy. Right, to just start an exercise habit with lacing up my shoes every morning. Or you know, whatever the examples are. These little bite-sized chunks of a habit and then you get consistent and add on to it. But the compound effect is huge. And, you're kind of telling the universe - I'm doing this. And I'm serious. And then the little synchronicities start to happen and that's when you can start to follow the energy of where you're being guided. Oh yes, it's huge. Yes so important. So I talked about accountability all the time and you're just more likely to do something if you tell someone else you're gonna do it. If you tell the masses on social media you're going to do it, like I'm going to write every day and you know ask me about it. If you see me and people start asking you - how's that going. You're going to do it. I mean, sadly, we don't just do that for ourselves, even though we say it's important. But when you tell other people, it's like a little hack. You get there faster when you tell somebody else you're going to do it, absolutely. Kristin Swanson helps people execute their “someday when” procrastinated projects with ease. As a completion expert, coach & cancer survivor, Kristin has learned the importance of getting out of one's own way and stop waiting until “someday” to make a unique impact. Today, I'm interviewing Barry Shore. He has an incredibly uplifting story about overcoming difficult circumstances with the health of his body. To go from being bedridden, unable to move the muscles in his body to being able to sit upright, to travel, to speak, to do so many things that make an impact in the lives of others. Hear how he uses joy and love and peace to inspire people through the book that he has written, through the speeches that he gives and through his overall demeanor of happiness and joy. Enjoy. Barry shares with us his insights: Smile. Did you say smile? Yes, because smile is a wonderful word that you can internalize, utilize, and leverage in your life because it stands for S-eeing M-iracles I-n L-ife E-veryday. Seeing miracles in life every day. When you can begin to do that your life has a shift. And now, you can grow whether it's in your business, in your family relationships, in your health. Everything happens for the better, when you are able to recognize and see miracles in life every day. So, my background is coming to everybody here not only have been some stuff in a healthwise, but, thank God, I've been able over the past years to build two multi-million dollar businesses which I had exits and to public companies; three issued US patents. And, I built a very large philanthropic platform. So I'm out in the world. I'm doing things. Despite the fact, I can't even sit up from this chair right now, because from the waist down and still practically paralyzed but it's the ability to recognize the miraculous in life every single day. This is so wondrous and important what we're bringing out together, right now, because let's be blunt very few people lives get paralyzed overnight. Very few people experience their closest relative being murdered. Didn't totally died, you said murdered we won't go into the depth of it. So we're talking about tough stuff. But I want to go to the point that you mentioned the word 'hope'. It's a nice word. Hope in life is not a strategy. Hope in business is not a strategy. Hope is a great word. It's one of my acronyms. Hope stands for H-elping O-ther P-eople P-rogress every day. Helping others progress every day. That is when you become a giver and you bring hope to others. Guess, what happens for you? You begin to live life to the full. Why? Living inspirationally for eternity but it only happens with one word - a three letter word that is so important for people to understand. I have a whole chapter on just this. And the word is now, N-O-W. Get a blank piece of paper and make a circle on the paper. Now, here's the fun part is that circle, a hole - HOLE, meaning and it's empty like you sometimes inside; or is it WHOLE? That's the whole picture. So you have to decide. You know the answer right now. And then, what you want to do is to make three lines straight line and two branches, like the peace symbol, or the Mercedes Benz symbol. You can choose either one or both. And then you brighten the three boxes. One block of one area, you make $1 sign stands for money. Another, you write the letter R where you write it out stands for relationships. And the third one, you put the letter H, which stands for health. Because all stressors in life come from three places only. They always did, and they always will. And they'll always be with us. But again, choice not chance determines your destiny, how you respond to any one of these situations. One of the great acronyms of life - 'dog poop' stands for D-oing O-f G-ood P-ower O-f O-ne P-erson. When you recognize the power that you have as one being and that you're aligned; and your thoughts are good; and your words are good; and your deeds are good then you recognize that you're a 'mad' person you M-ake A D-ifference in the world. Learn to love dog poop so whenever you see it from now on, you're going to smile. Remember, smile is 'see miracles in life every day'. And you got to remember this and it's going to trigger. And you're going to be able to share with somebody else because the power of one person reaching out to another to another to another to another, another. There's nothing in the world they said nothing. There's no barrier that can ever stop positive purpose, will, powerful, pleasant energy. It's a law of the world. So when you learn to love dog poop, you have shifted your perspective. Remember that F&E, you got to pronounce that F&F, or else the other stuff happens. You're going to shift your perspective and you become that powerful being in the world. So these things - breathe, deep practice gratitude, learn to love dog poop... Today, I am continuing the series with Simone Griffin. We are talking about inflation today because I feel like it's such an important topic especially when not everyone understands what's going on. We see it at the gas station. We see it at the grocery store. So how can we help ourselves in planning for the shifts that are happening with our money? What can we do to take good care of ourselves financially with so much uncertainty surrounding us? I love talking to Simone about these sorts of things. And, I hope you enjoy this and many future episodes where we talk about timely topics that can make a difference in your life. Enjoy. Simone and Leisa shares with us their insights: Leisa: You and I both know that we want that. No matter what, for everyone, we want everyone to be feeling like you're living a beautiful life but what's it going to take to have a beautiful life and maybe it costs less. Looking for free alternatives for things, whenever possible, you know, because there are free things. And then I think the other thing that could help is coming to terms with your values and your priorities and getting so crystal clear of what's most important and what's least important. And then those things that are least important, perhaps, are the things that drop off. But any other thoughts that you have? Simone Griffin: It's so funny you said pretty much what I was going to say in terms of prioritizing. And, you know, I think that there's so much happening in the world we're going to take it outside of money and put it into the world. There's so much happening in the world, and just so much, and not just based on the news, saying. But also what's happening in our lives that I think it's really important not to feel like you're sacrificing. So really still live your very best life. But look for ways that you don't necessarily have to spend more money and or prioritize what is the most important thing, what brings you joy - real joy, real fulfillment. And I even wrote this thinking - no pun intended. But being very mindful about your millions and making sure that you are really looking at - 'All right, is this really serving my true fulfillment. Like is this bringing me absolute pleasure in doing it?' And if it doesn't, don't do it, especially if it costs a lot of money. You know, don't do it, but if you find something that brings you sheer like I love every minute of this. Keep doing that. Number one, figure out what can you can let go of so that you can have that more. Leisa: Oh it's so good. It's so healthy for the body craves. Most of us are deprived of two things - air and water. And we can get by with less than we need. So we don't know that is actually not optimal. But if you can spend more time breathing and focusing on your breath and getting really oxygenated. And drink more water and feel what it feels like to have more water in your system. It's amazing. Simone Griffin: And your skin looks better as a result of it. Just gives us better and so many different things. It's funny, the more we take care of ourselves in simple ways, the more they'll show up in a manner that maybe we won't need as many facials or you know other things that are costing us a lot of money. And even I will tell you guys, one hack and everybody doesn't love walking or running. But if you get out in the morning and you just go walking that does not cost any money, number one. It doesn't cost any money other than the cost of your sneakers. Simone: I think that there's so many things that we can do. We don't have control over inflation. We don't have control over all of this stuff. But we do have control over what we do every day. And I just want to reiterate what Leisa and I are both saying is we do not want you to sacrifice or feel a level of lack in life just because you're looking for ways to combat inflation in your house. Would you agree? Leisa Peterson: 100%! Now, I feel like this is a really important conversation that we might not be economists. But we have limited - we have been around the block a few times. We're just sharing that. We just don't want you to be caught in a situation where you feel like you have no choices. We want you to always be looking at where are your choices. And making decisions about money, learning more about money, helps us to feel more empowered with money. And we want you feeling empowered because the only place that any of us are going to feel like that we could live an optimal life is from a place of empowerment. Not from a place of feeling like we're a victim to the system. Leisa: I just want to put something out there that also never hesitate for asking for help. Like, if you ever get stuck or you feel like you can't come up with options - like think to yourself, who might have a different perspective. They're not maybe in my situation, but who can I go to - to get resources. And that can be food, and you know, the resources as far as things you actually need asking for help. But it can also be mindset shifts or ways to look at your situation differently. They give you possibility rather than scarcity and getting caught in the scarcity trap. Does that make sense, Simone? Simone: It does, it does. It brings up the notion of I'm willing to see things differently. And the more we can be willing to see things differently in a positive way, the more apt we are to be able to move forward and do put ourselves in a better position. Today, I'm interviewing my friend and client, Mopelola Gloria Fagbemi. Gloria is an amazing woman who has a very interesting story when it comes to divorce and how that led to finding a job that brings her lots of joy. We get to hear about her experience with meeting Simon Sinek and how that impacted her life, as well as, what she's doing to create greater levels of prosperity in her life. Enjoy. She shares with us her insights: When I told him the money, he, you know, they approved - wasn't enough to cover. You know, babysitting and the private school that the other two kids were already going to and then baby sitting wants the new baby King do. And it was like "Okay, like lady, you should know that going forward life was changed drastically. Your life would never bethe same. I think, it really hurt me. But at the same time it set me on a really good trajectory to know that - "Okay, you need to start making changes, almost immediately. And then, so one thing this whole mindset that has taught me is also not to judge people... But one thing I try to teach my kids now that I've learned throughout all this experience I think comes from my Dad. And it's needs and wants and opportunity costs. And some costs. And there was a time like it was always in the house somewhere where everybody could see another. So it's needs and wants, opportunity costs, sunk cost and there's one more. Courtesy costs nothing. And because sometimes, you know, you invest so much in things that you just want to keep going. When the real thing you should do is actually to just consider all the costs you've spent and just make the right decision going forward. So hopefully, my expectation is that I've been able to impart that to my kids too. Because it's been some of the reasons why I've done some of the things that brought me joy... Oh, that one is easy. It's that, now I can speak up and I'm not perfect at it, yet. But I can almost sense my inner voice. And I believe now that I had it as a kid but you know, people just made me not do it and not be that person. Because all it is at the end of the day is you just speaking your truth and doing your truth. So if there's nothing else I'm proud of in all of this journey than that. Yeah, so excited that I found it. It's like you're a kid again but you're an adult. I think it makes such a difference. That in our lives, and I think that might also have been the turning point where now that I've become the person watching loves the job that you know, that should join us. Eventhough that wasn't my goal, but I was - "Okay, you know what, yeah I love who we serve. We serve the vulnerable people in the state of Maryland. We serve the adults, you know, we serve children. So I'm here to make their life better. And, in doing that, like I show up to work every day, knowing that even though like I'm in the headquarters, like everything I'm doing supports the job of the local offices to help those people. How can you not love the job you're doing when like you're helping other people... So we need to do that. Hold them, as long as you can. Push them to get that GED then when they get out there, they can go figure the rest out. Like, even if they flunk the first year of college, they will figure it out by the second year. And then they have three more years to bump up their brains. But we shouldn't just be, yeah, leaving them in high school and letting them just like they don't listen. So because of that, you know, that whole love thing can preach. That's where it comes in surrendering and just loving them more where they are; pushing them through to the end. I see that so differently now for our boys. Gloria is on a personal journey to become financially debt free and to find her one true vocation, calling and life's work that she have been called to, apart from her 9-5 career as a Budget Analyst; and besides being a mom. You'll find her creating content around personal finance, child development and spirituality; sharing on how to develop and organize well as an adult and from a young age so that we can learn our inner voice and own our power. Today, I'm interviewing Melinda Cohan. She's a business coach to coaches. And after she achieved fast success when she launched throne coaching practice in 2014, she became co-founder and CEO of the Coaches Console. Now, a 7-figure software training and coaching company that has helped more than 50,000 coaches create a profitable and thriving businesses. Today, we are talking about money. But mostly, in the context of overlooked revenue- generating activities in your business. Melinda has a lot of experience in this and we're talking about how to make sure that you're not leaving money on the table that you could earn. So, dive in, enjoy and I can't wait to hear what you think. Melinda shares with us her insights: They want results they want outcomes that's what's most important to them. And so, when our pricing can be aligned with the transformation they experience with us, that alignment creates integrity. It creates trust and it creates enthusiasm. For me the practitioner, the coach - when I'm putting myself out there, I can feel confident that I'm not short-changing myself or discounting out of fear. It's not a fear-based pricing. But it's an alignment with the work that we do. So, I like to shift to a line aligned pricing. That right there, can begin to create better profit margins. Allow you to generate more revenue, so you can reinvest more into your business. So you can do other revenue- generating activities or find even more robust ways to serve and support your clients in getting results. A lot of coaches that I work with, they'll have their two primary coaching packages and then just something called a maintenance package. And it can just be maintenance and keeping that going. It can be that simple, or it can be okay you've done this package - 'Now, come into my program or join my mastermind or my high end group coaching or something on the back end.' But it doesn't have to be anything other than just a maintenance so even just those simple things can be where we can recoup opportunities to make an easy transition into having clients rehire us and keep that going and by getting that testimonial from every client. Now, you can use those testimonials in your sales pages and your sales conversations and your enrollment conversations and your email campaigns. So you don't have to do as much selling and you're sharing through story. And so that's an easy way. And then you automate the referral asking so you're getting a referral from every clients like - 'Oh yeah, I know Susie. She's also struggling with this. Let me introduce you'. And it's just a natural part of the conversation instead of an awkward ask. ...paying attention and looking at my business through that lens, made it easy to minimize or overcome or transform fears and doubts and villains that I had behind the scenes as a business owner and as a leader. That was the first thing is the more I could make it about every single person that I was in front of, the easier it was for me to show up for them. It's like - do you remember that movie Schindler's list with Liam Neeson. At the end, you know it's all about helping, you know the Jews, the concentration camp. And when the war's over and he's looking at his cufflinks. He's like, you know - 'I could have helped one more person'. And that's how I think about it. It's like, if I could help one more coach with their business, the whole world will be a different place. And so, I really keep that close to heart and the more I think we can do that, the easier it is for us to handle and dive in all the little millions of details behind the scenes that we have to. It makes it worth it for me. To find those that can help do things better than you and get your ego out of the way. So that people can free up your time, so you can spend more time on the revenue-generating activities, instead of the expense type of activities that are necessary. But not generating revenue so that's a big one. And then recently again, growing my time again. I had to sit down and make a list of here's all the stuff I'm doing. I've gotten to the point where I love pretty much everything. But there was still some areas. And so you're like - 'Okay, here's the thing that I don't love that I absolutely don't need to be doing, but still have to get done.' And it's like, how do we outsource those last few things and bringing on those team members or rallying existing team members. So that's a big part of growth is freeing up your time so that as you grow into the six figures, multiple six figures, especially as you're growing into seven figures, the more time you're freed up to only do that which truly lights you up and is your zone of genius. And nobody else can replace that. The more you do that, the more creative you are. The more your light shines the better version of you, you bring to everything. The more you give up the overflow, the more your team flourishes. The more your clients flourish and everything is like a steam engine picking up momentum. To create one of the things I always say is you know we're creating a business beyond our wildest dreams, so we can live the lifestyle beyond our wildest dreams. And I truly believe that it's not just the business, for the sake of business. There's a lot of passion there for sure. It's our calling often. And it's so that we can have this amazing abundant life. And so, that being an entrepreneur; having good boundaries with work; what it means to work from home; what it means to work virtually has been so amazing. And the lifestyle that is created for me, my husband, my family, and that just continues to get better and better. Melinda Cohan is author of The Confident Coach and CEO of The Coaches Console, a software, training, and coaching company that has helped thousands of coaches create profitable and sustainable businesses. Her software leverages the systems she created in her own coaching business -- for branding, list-building, marketing, scheduling, enrolling clients, creating amazing client experiences, managing group programs and online courses and integrates it all into one cohesive platform. It removes the complexities of your business so you can feel confident and do the work you love doing with your clients. While the systems organize you, she and her team blend coaching with training to help you create a clear and realistic path to sustainable income and impact. Today, I'm speaking about self-advocacy with my friend, client Simone Griffin. I've invited Simone to come on the show today to tell us more about herself because we're going to be having more conversations together about money, net worthiness, financial self-care, and so much more. Simone works in the financial services industry and today, we're talking about this advocacy question - how can we take better care of ourselves? What does it look like? And, you'll hear more about Simone and her story. I think you'll be really inspired to think about your own relationship with money and so much more. Enjoy. Simone shares with us her insights: ...the ability to start her own business, and she was like you really need somebody in your corner saying - "You can do this! Go for it..." I mean everybody does, my dad did it and she did. And so, thank goodness, that she had him. And so as a result, I don't know. I don't remember my parents ever working for anybody else. That has been a wonderful ride for me as their kid. But I have also seen the downside of entrepreneurialism if I'm mansell downsize, the stress downside, the other downside as leading the upside. There are in there, a lot... But one thing I've realized is people over glamorized entrepreneurialism, number one. Number two, it is not for everybody. And I really think, it's important to, that kind of goes with the over glamorization, we just say - "Well, I'm just going to go when you know start my own business." You just don't understand the nuances of starting a business, which is why working with people like Leisa and and other business coaches are so important. Because there's so much we don't know in starting a business. And then you've got things that just come up new opportunities, new tools, new this, new that. What happens when you don't know something because we're not good at everything... And it gives you that opportunity to truly check out for five to six days. And I consider it a massive gift to myself. I don't even consider it an option anymore, because the one year I didn't do it 2020, of course, because of the pandemic, I was like - "Oh, this is something good." It's a reminder of know you really need to take that time and so Kirk started coming with me. And at first, he was like I don't get why you do this every year, but he was like - "Oh, I get it now... I could do this. I could relax have a lot." And so we, it is a great way to check out and to just enjoy time by myself. If he doesn't go or with him if he does go. I'll invite friends, but if they don't go it's fine. I will go by myself because the point is for me to have five days, where I can just chill out and not think of anything, and it has been everything. It is not every vacation, you know, we're probably going to go to London and a couple of weeks and that's going to be an active vacation. I'm not going to fit anywhere next to the water. We're going to go and tour the site. But you do need that one time, where you can just say - "It's just me and looking up at the sky and I truly appreciate that every year." I was taught to go after all your dreams. But I wasn't necessarily taught that, and this is how much when you put a price tag on it, this is how much you want to figure out the worth and the value to tell you figured out. So I struggled with that, for years, and I think most women struggle with that. And now, it's just a matter of okay "I'm learning my lessons. I'm growing as a result of it." And how can we impart that to other women, especially. And I'm not going to only - I don't want to only say women, because I think men have their own set of issues. I don't want to make it seem like men are not a part of this kind of financial money struggle too. I do think that they approached it differently. So that's why I'm not really speaking about me. I'm more than you know, but I think that I know I needed to learn a lot more about net worthiness. And why I need to go out and advocate for myself. And I'm still learning that lesson. But I'm growing and I'm getting more and more confident every day and I'm understanding the value that I provide in my workplace. And I think, that will only continue, and especially through these conversations, because I learned through as we talked about earlier, asking other people questions. And understanding how they did it. ...But, so I just perfectly content living her Solange's life. She's got this massive group of fans who love her; love her integrity; love her everything and it will be like I will follow the lines to hills and back. Is this beyond Beyonce's saying level fandom? No, not in terms of numbers, but in terms of fierceness and devotion and love for her work and integrity that's what Solange has. And so I always, I think about them, and I think about how they have champion each other. And I think about how different they are, even though they are the same genre which is music. And I always say you know what, my parents may - may be Beyonce maybe they are, but I can be a damn good Solange, okay, my own personal Solange. And that is a hell of a good life too. And it doesn't mean that Beyonce's life is the only life there is. And I think people think that that's the only life there is. It is a life and it's a good life. It's just not the only life and maybe it's not mine and maybe I'm neither Solange's, nor Beyonce's, completely not... I'm no longer competing. I've accepting myself as I am. That's really the whole point and that's what I admire about you. Absolutely and especially because you know, going back to the principal topic of money being a tool, there are so many ways that we can utilize it and implement it in our lives, one way or the other. And it says, I hate to use or going into social issues. I do hate to use it. But it's like a hammer, you know how people will talk about hammers and kill people like guns it's not quite the same. But a hammer can be used to either build a house or tear it to shreds or hurt somebody. We choose. Money is very much the same way and we can figure out what we want to do with our money to support the world with which we want to see. And hopefully if we can do that, while also being understanding of what other people are experiencing in the world and understanding that there's really nothing to fear... Today, I'm having a conversation with Maii Vu. She helps business women expand their wealth without sacrificing their private life using systems and processes that she's developed over time. She is from Vietnam and lives in Australia. It so much fun to have this conversation where we talked about how we can activate our potential; manifest way beyond what we might think is possible. She gives some cool tools. And both of us are sharing because we decided to do a swap where this podcast is being aired here and also on her show and we wanted to just have this lively conversation that I really enjoyed. I'd love to hear what you think, what you take away from our conversation. I think it's power-packed with lots of good stuff. Enjoy. Maii shares with us her insights: I just had a conversation actually with one of my peers and he also mentioned that whoever are very successful are very keen to go into that scary zone. Because the scary zone is where everything is beyond your imagination; where everything is unlimited. I truly believe, as well for me, the next level is definitely is the next quality of life; the next quality of my emotions. And, how do I deal with my business, my life, my relationship with people. The next level of life, literally, means for me, is the next level of me - who I become better person for myself, for them, for my clients, for my business. And, I thrive to go to the next level all the time because I realized one truth is "Life is a constant change". And by me staying in the comfort zone and staying where I am, I actually refuse to go along with the flow of life. And when I refuse to go along with the flow of life, no wonder I always felt like I'm losing out in life or I was always behind life. When I realize that it was because of my tendency to stay stucked and stay in comfort was actually making me losing out of life. Then, I made a commitment to always, always go to the next level because the scary zone, the unknown zone. That space whatever its names, it is where my next dream is. It is where my next vision is. It is where the next beautiful things would drop in that I couldn't complain for. And all the way to live that life is just beautiful. It's like you live in miracle zone every single day of your life. I love that one because that go perfectly to also what I believe in. I believe that - I look at the tree. And I look at how the tree wants to go bigger and expands its rich further. It's actually has something to do with deepening the roots. That both process of widening up and taking action which is like action and must-in actions is so needed that go together with deepening the roots in a way you go deeper with connecting to your senses, with your intuition, with your heart. And letting that deeper sense of purpose and intuition get into you when you are expanding. I do believe we need both in this journey in order to go to the next level. Because I truly believe that our business is like a soul entity. And we, before six-figure or like on the way to six-figure is like me or you and the business is like you and dancing into that soul but then that soul got expanded or got bigger. And that covering up a lot more purpose and that bring in more energy, and also more space to grow and expand. And if people wants to grow from multiple six or seven-seven, I believe that soul-expansion has to be created. I always say to my clients, you just cannot make money because you want some money now. You have to make money because there's a purpose behind that money. Like if you launch that program, it's not just because you are going to make general 20k or 50k launch. But it's because that five or ten people who buy that program will actually get the life change. And the person who supported you in that process of getting it done is also expanding their own zone. It's a totally a new game to play. And when we're playing in that new game, all the details are unknown to us. When we are getting that support like having that mentor, sign-ups for that program, getting that books, literally, I have to remind myself every single day I wake up I absolutely know nothing. I know nothing and I have the most curiosity eyes for the next thing to come into my life. And I believe into surrendering like I fully surrendered that I'm going to be guided for the next step. I don't have to know everything right now to have to figure it out right now. I don't have to understand why she advised me to do this. But I'm going to trust. And the trust here is not on my coach, is not on someone like my client. The trust is about me and the universe. That 'Hey, I'm connected to the universe'. And I trust myself to be able to go along. I trust the universe always to give me that next step, then next step, the next one and the next one... every single small step of the way. And that next step might go through my coach, through some reflections that I've heard, might go through a podcast like this, might go through a poet I've randomly seen, might go through a conversation that I've randomly had. But that next step would always present itself to me when I am in the mode of receiving, allowing and surrendering. Maii Vu is a podcast host & motivational speaker, the founder of Empowered Muse. Today, I'm interviewing my friend Samantha Burmeister. Samantha is a copywriter and we are talking about how to be thinking about when you would use a copywriter in your business, how they could help you, what you need to do before you hire someone and how to make sure that when you do you're getting the most from that experience. So enjoy this conversation around messaging. It's really fun to learn more about Samantha, her journey into copywriting, and how this skill of copywriting could help your business grow to the next level. Enjoy. Today, I'm interviewing my friend Samantha Burmeister who is a copywriter. We're discussing when you would use a copywriter in your business, how they could help you, what you need to do before you hire someone and how to make sure that when you do you're getting the most from that experience. So enjoy this conversation around messaging. It's really fun to learn more about Samantha, her journey into copywriting, and how this skill of copywriting could help your business grow to the next level. Enjoy. Samantha shares her insights: I find that it's best to give a comparison here because copywriting and content writing are very similar but different. So what I have most recently been telling people in that is that copywriting is for people and content writing is for computers. And what I mean by that is oftentimes, we're told you need to start a blog so that people can search you and you know SEO insert different things here. So that's where you're writing for computers, so that you're searchable. And that's content. Copy is writing for people. Copy is typically leading people to a specific action. You know we've talked about CTA is calls to action. And copy is driving those actions so whether it's clicking here purchasing something making an emotional decision, that's copy. Because copy is what's going to connect the dots for people it's going to take them from their problem to the solution and then far beyond it. Because the solution is never someone working with you. The solution is someone works with you and then they're able to continue living the life of their dreams, you know, whatever that may be. So, the solution goes far beyond the purchase point and that's where good copy takes people. I did not work on any of these campaigns, but an example is that Nike and Adidas existed for decades before All Birds came out. Yet if you walk around downtown San Francisco, everyone in their is going to be wearing All Birds shoes. So we see that all the time that sometimes it's something that is it's just your special sauce. And All Birds use this because I'm pretty sure, a lot of people have heard of this All Birds. Their special sauce was simply that they use wool instead of non renewables, like the other guys. So it's identifying what that special sauces and then really amplifying why that's important to your audience and if it's not already important to your audience then it's explaining to them why it should be important to them. Today, I'm interviewing Sandra Pelley who is a very talented spiritual coach. She helps her clients have more compassion towards themselves. We're discussing the ways we're showing up to our lives, showing up for our businesses, becoming more visible and how can you do more of that in your life. I definitely had some breakthroughs and can't wait to hear what you takeaway from it. Enjoy. Sandra shares her insights: And it's because they've been given this space where they can develop the confidence, where they can start to be seen. Now, does this mean that they've gone from not being seen on camera to suddenly running a business where they're showing themselves 100%. No, it's a process. Because you have to go through each of those steps of first of all being heard. I think that's probably the first one is knowing that you have something to say and everybody's story out there is so important and show up with that story. It's not whine about the story, but tell your story, so that people learn from it and can grow on their own. Understand that they've got something to say too. My bike was stolen. I felt violated and yet in that moment of violation, I judged myself in that - Oh, but you haven't been violated in a physical way. Well, stop that. I felt violated. Own that feeling and speak about it with my community because we have to recognize these emotions and feelings and own them. Show up in that feeling that emotion that you're feeling. Because it's so important because other people have those same experiences. So, even though it was just my mountain bike, I felt violated in the moment. And I'm owning that now because that was such a horrible part and a horrible thing to have happened to me, personally. And I'm recognizing me. And I think that's what's important when we tell people our stories is we're giving others the allowance to recognize themselves right now and show up again. To start to see that there's other ways that we don't have to do the ways that we were told they had to be done as a child. And that's what this is all about. It's breaking those expectations; breaking through those limitations and starting to be okay with laying down the pathway of our own growth for our own sake. Because you know what when I take care of myself, the growth I've seen in my husband, there's no measurement where we would have whined and cried and screamed and bellowed and even argued over the stolen bike. We sat down the other day after coming back from the cops and reporting it. And my husband made the decision that he wanted another bike. He stepped into recognizing his value in that moment, and for our relationship, like we're will be married 38 years in two days here right. And for him to be at that point now where he's recognizing his value I've never seen this in him before. And it's because of the work I'm doing on myself and my own path. And when I heard him say yes, go to Calgary Alberta and get this bicycle for me. It was just like this big mind blowing moment. Be clear about what you want. So if you want to be seen, be clear about being seen. The thing that when you start speaking about this last little bit here, what do I want to leave people with. It's a quote that I believe actually came possibly from one of your podcasts that Lisa Nichols said - I must amplify so I can amplify others. I know, by showing up and amplifying myself, my light, my energy, whatever that is, my love for myself that I amplified others. And that is a direct result to what I'm seeing in my husband and in my community right now is because I amplified myself so others can amplify. Sandra Pelley - The Sandini - is an inner peace mentor and the visionary behind the Guide Academy, teaching you to go BIG with your Little You, also known as your Inner Child or Small Self. I have an interview with Charles Rose Jr. Charles grew up in Freeport, Bahamas in a very close-knit family. He has a passion for helping people realize their dreams and one of the ways he does that is through real estate investing. And today, the conversation is really about hearing Charles' story and the things that he overcame to get where he is today. I was very personally touched by his story because I related to it in my own journey of not letting our life circumstances dictate our life and how we can set our sights on something more. So as you listen in, be thinking how can you set your sights for more and what choices you might need to make in the future to create the life that you want to create? Enjoy. Charles shares her insights: The semester, I was interviewed on TV about my story, like you know, that was crazy for people on the island, like a lot of people haven't even been from one end of the island to the other. Like island people just kind of stay where they are often. And so it's like it's crazy guys, it was on TV and it was so amazing that this story reach so many people and encourage so many young people to go after their dreams. And you had like people call in the TV station - millionaires like who are from all around the world, because you know, a lot of people have like vacation homes in the Bahamas. And just people calling wondering, how can I help this young man out. So my story was like you know, very different. So I was able to get, you know, all of my school and funded. And I didn't ask for any money on TV. They just wanted to help me achieve my goals because they did know, I went off in faith that first semester, and so they helped me to finish college. And I got some more scholarships over time, too. So it was just you know so amazing. It was such a blessing. And that shows that you know, whatever you want to go after in life, you just have to take that step of faith even you know you don't have to have all the answers. Yeah absolutely Leisa. And I love how you really broke it down. It's not about you know running away from the pain. But it's really if any of you want to run, you know, you run towards the pleasure. You run towards your purpose and your goals, and you know, and that is so powerful to when you can put your goals in the front of you and be able to like work towards that is so much better than just trying to avoid pain. And because you know in life, you know there's gonna be some challenges there's gonna be some struggles. I just talked about my story with the ups, the downs... By then I would want want to meet my cash flow goals, where I have so much cash flow coming in, so I can be completely completely financially free with my friend answer freedom numbers. I have different levels of financial freedom. You know the one of the first levels, it's kind of like where my income is more than my expenses. And I've hit that level. Then I have another level, where I want, you know, to have like you know, maybe like five times my expenses. And so, I'm working towards that level where my wife and I, we could both be stay at home parents. And then, and just to be able to be with our kids and grew up with them and just to be able to love on them. And then you know, the other side of the goal is to help as many people as I can. And to achieve that goal is something that I'm so passionate about. I love to see when people hit their goals... Today, I'm interviewing Lisa Princic. We're talking about membership and business building and the strategies that we've learned along the way as it pertains to building a community that takes the things that you love to do and what you're passionate about in helping people with and brings all of that into a successful paid membership. I know that you're going to get lots of ideas. I sure did. Enjoy. Lisa shares her insights: So you have to not get overwhelmed by what you're seeing; what you're seeing as a lack of. When you don't have hundreds of members, you're not going to see everything firing. So that's just helps you ease your mind towards like the realistic expectations and also give some frameworks for like you can actually do this and it can be really small and work really well until it starts to grow… Right, like people who really like saw you somewhere and then want to join versus like I'm clicking an ad, like that's not the same level of connection. So yeah like I think we do need to be really developing relationships. Really thinking about our ideal member all the time, and what they're wanting to hear. And then having that conversation wherever we're having the conversation; what resonates with them. I mean I love mentorship inside my membership is because I get tons of validation like I get to know what people like; what they're working on; like I get to learn from that. That really helps me to just even go out and do my next podcast episode because someone said I could listen to your podcast here's what I'm really liking. I'm like - Thank you, this is helpful, so I think that yeah really human relationships. It's you got to love your clients and that's number one... It's a choice right. But if you don't, so you can't expect to grow a million dollar business, if you don't really want to work. It doesn't mean you have to work a million hours, because we can be smarter with their time. But, you know, when we're starting we do put in a lot of time. Like we have to because you got to push that boulder up the hill right? So, you got to get a little bit honest with yourself. Because it takes a lot of trial and error and you don't know how long it's going to take to get there or you pick up a really useful skill set like copywriting or Facebook ads or something like that people just cannot do. And then you become amazing, which is a different way, because that might not be your dream, but then that as you're getting paid well to do good work. This is a valuable skill set and then you elevate that too. So that's being said, you can have the choice around, are you going to do something on the side, this may not be the dream model. Or you're going to, and then you can rest on that when you start changing; or like an agency or something or are you going to just let that go and make the decision. So it's like but really decide how far you want to go for how long. Lisa Princic is passionate about both business and personal growth. She says that overcoming challenges and striving for our goals are the actions that grow us as humans. That's where she focuses her energy - helping you build your brand, create offers that can scale, expertly position your brand and design your marketing to give you the most impact. A service-business that can scale requires a focused business strategy - one that's designed for you and your business only. She doesn't believe that one-size-fits-all frameworks actually work and for her every model is unique. She'll help you hone in and focus on those subtle differences - your core success factors. Based on the vision of your business and the desires of your ideal clients & members. She has traveled to many countries; kite-boarded in a number of oceans, logged endless miles on her mountain bike and sat FOUR 10-day silent meditation retreats. She's both passionate and level-headed. She has a knack for seeing things for what they are - a true realist. This also allows her to see the gift you have and the right place for you in the market. A Human Design reader told her once that she can absolutely trust my gut. Her spirituality is fuelled by nature, her heart is fired by her son and her ambition comes from her desire for truth and personal growth. She is an independent seeker whose conquered most of her demons and that's what makes her a good thought partner for emerging thought leaders. Today, I'm speaking with Linda Claire Puig. Linda is long-time coach. She has done amazing things with her business especially around being able to focus on traveling and still doing your business and how you can get more out of life and expand into the life you really want to be living. Today, we're talking about her journey about what she's learned along the way as a coach, some of the breakthroughs that she's had and how she's helping her clients to live their best life. Enjoy. Linda shares her insights: That I was going to utilize every asset that I had. So what are my assets? Okay, my assets are my programs. My assets are my 'Done for you' products. My assets are like I just took inventory of everything that I had. And then, of course, the biggest asset in my business, in anyone's business is their audience. Right - because you can do anything when you've got an audience that you have a great relationship with that you nurture that you know, engage with them. You can do anything in your business... Yeah, email list is what I always refer to. I'm actually, an outlier in that. I don't use social media for business at all. And, I know, right, big eyes like what? I'm not saying that it's bad. For a lot of people, it's a really good place to find your audience and track. But the thing is - this is the important part, attract them to your email list. That is yours. The audiences on Facebook and Iinstagram and wherever else, they're technically not yours, they don't belong to you. Your account can be shut down at any point. And I've known lots of people who, for whom it has been shut down, whether by mistake, whether by miscommunication whatever. Right? And so, it's just really, really important that the bulk of your activity on social media, if you choose to do that is in finding ways to engage and attract them over to your email list. And I started writing my list about that experience and about my dog; and about how she came to us and, like not at all about business, but it was really important. And, I got probably the most number of response emails from people that I ever had before. Maybe when I took my son to College and the turmoil of that maybe that was the one other that I got a lot of additional responses. But you know, people want to know you as a real human being. And so, in addition to writing them about whatever the businesses that you're in, write them about your life. Write them about how your life and that business topic intersects - like that's one of my favorite things to do when I travel is to take these experiences that I'm having while I'm traveling. But make business metaphors out of them. Make business lessons. So, I think those two, you know, pay attention to getting people on your list. Whatever you're doing make sure that it's with that in mind. And then the second one is to really spend time nurturing that relationship... Relationship marketing expert, Linda Claire Puig helps solopreneurs develop a loyal, engaged audience and turn them into clients and customers, while her popular Ready2Go Articles take the time and effort out of nurturing those audiences. Today, I'm interviewing an exceptional person who I've gotten to know for the past few years, Nicky Dyal. She is a coach and a rock climber. She has taken what she has learned as an extreme athlete and being a professional in that area and channeled it into this transformative work that she does with her clients. Very interesting to learn about how she's channeled her life into her business. So I was so excited to bring her on the show and I know you'll take away a lot from this conversation. Enjoy... Nicky shares her insights: Especially outside of established structures, like you were saying, outside of a corporate structure that's reinforced and backed up by society and taxation systems and just like everybody is supposed to get an office job you know. And for me as an athlete just being swept up in the tide of able bodied people who like can perform and push their body to do whatever they want seemingly with like a magic wand. Know it's really the only path and it looks different for everyone, it could be a death, it could be the end of a relationship. Again, not many people choose to leave behind the thing that's giving them so much validation, you know, ego validation that's making them feel so good. Not many people make that choice, and I think entrepreneurs are people who are doing that. And to me, that's leadership is doing something different from what other people are doing and having that those humbling experiences that connect you ultimately to more people and open your heart to the experiences of more people. And yeah, what a gift to like have had to have experienced both sides of that. Well, I think I just care about people I care about. My experience and he care about the experience of other people. And starting from that point, I then had to realize there's lots of people in the world, I, myself included, who have experienced pain, because of society. And you know, being enabled-body, college-educated Ivy league white person I had a lot of access to communities and money and conversations that would make my life easier and more manageable. And that's not true for everyone. And if I, but my my world doesn't really feel at harmony, yeah when I know that there's so much suffering. But also like i'm not in the UN. I'm not a politician so like where's my point of power actually right. So it's in what I create my day to day experience. How does that feel - am I kind to people, etc. But then, I also realize to like broaden how good my day to day experience felt. It would be helpful to understand other people's experiences, who are different from mine and those conversations are obviously outside of my normal lived experience. Honestly that's such a relief. Isn't it? Like I actually find it a relief that other people have had different lived experiences than I do. That's how I grow like that's it's a relief to me to understand that some people have had it easier than me in some ways, for example, you know. For it when I hear that someone has had it more harder than me my heart opens both of those things are delightful. Oh my heart opening is a wonderful feeling. And also understanding that there's like potential for more ease in the world is also a relief to me. So kind of like, no matter how you slice it it's nice. It's like wonderful to realize that other people look at things differently and that different experiences. Because they want to care more about the world like people want to be more comfortable with what they care about and less afraid to act on what they love. There's very little societal incentive to like live with your heart on your sleeve or to live according to your values. It's much like you said earlier it's much easier to live in a corporate structure or whatever. And I think that provide an exciting and fun time. Moving towards being able to live according to what brings you joy. And like that's kind of like a cliche coach thing to say. But like getting to just like not be afraid to care about what you want to care about. I think that's especially what our times are calling for, and I offer that to people in, I believe, like an exciting and you know my favorite words are cozy way. And sassy just like, let's live a little. Let's just like shoot from the hip a little bit and take some risks. And realize that we felt like we are going to die, but we weren't actually in danger. And that's like a fun way to party, you know. Nicky is called the climbing whisperer as she is a professional climber/athlete. If you want climbing to have joy and meaning, she wants to help you get there through her mentorship for the contemporary climber. She is also a coach. If you want to lead with integrity and humility — Nicky wants to help you get there - for your heart, bravery and mastery, for a world rebirthing executive coaching. For her, of all the fears, sharing how much you care can be the most terrifying as we might say it the wrong way or too late, be misunderstood, or worst of all, offend the very person we hope to uplift and what our world needs most is leaders who understand the reward is in the risk. She works with leaders who - care about their impact on others; know that facing their fears regularly and with integrity is essential to good leadership; strive to embody both confidence and humility in their decision making. Today, I'm interviewing my friend and client Sucheta Phadke. Sucheta is an amazing learning and development coach, teacher, educator and she's been working with me off and on for several years. And today, I asked her to come on the show because she has been recently diagnosed with breast cancer. When I have the fortune to speak with her amidst her cancer treatments, I was completely spellbound by what she has learned from her cancer journey; how it relates to her as a human being, as a business person, as someone who is always looking to learn and transform the things that are happening in for life and what cancer had done to her experiences; how she's able to come through this experience from a place of peace, love and joy. So I asked her to come on and have a conversation with me about who she is and how this journey has affected her life and what's happening as a result for her. Sucheta shares her insights: My whole view of looking at things change so much. And I said okay I will come out of it. I don't know how, when, what. I have no clue. But I know for sure, and I remember my brother in law, the first time he took me. I had a training program and I just badly had 15 minutes to finish the program and then go for the doctor's appointment. So he said I'll just come in and pick you up. And then he said - You know, this is huge right? So I said - Okay, you know, I think let's start by thanking God I finished my training program. You, I didn't even ask you to come, but you came and picked me up and we're we are on time for that appointment with the doctor so busy. And then I told him - we all have intelligence; we all can read; we are well informed; there's so many doctors in the family; we have whatever you know we have access to doctors. You know, we have insurance. Okay, maybe you know the money part will take care of. So lots of things to be thankful about. So, let's start from there - no complaints tonight. Let's not complain about anything. We are all together. I think I saw him so feeling a little sort of relieved. And then my husband also came and my daughter was there. And I told everybody, my mother. She felt a little denial for 10 days. But then I told her you know, there's no question of why me. I'm damn sure there is some learning in this for me. I don't know what it is, but there is learning. And I think that's what it is, I just believe that everything will be taken care of. Yeah but sometimes I just do fall. I think that sometimes I do get angry. Sometimes, I do feel low. And once in a while, I lose my temper. Sometimes you know, like one thing starts and then in the evening I talked to God and I say - Oh I think, I fell from grace today, let it go, let it go. That's okay, tomorrow I'll start it all over again. Then, you talk to God, right, so I think God has become my best friend. Talking aloud to myself in the middle and then telling me - Oh, you look gorgeous, you're beautiful. It's all kinds of things that I do, but that keeps me happy. And I think my daughter once told me that when she went from staying with my mom, looking after her and she went back to a place with her friends and everybody asked for how she's been. And she said - You know Mom, you don't have any fear and therefore I have no fear. I never realized what your own positivity and it's not about just saying that I'm positive, it's feeling it... So I used to chant the name of God and the nice to say - keep going steady. If my mind wavered - keep your mind steady, keep your mind steady. But see these things, I think they help because you have to be settled. It's not easy but it's not impossible too. It's the way you look at it because I mean a lot of release and it's just shared happiness. Once you give the control to what is there. Once I told God, I don't know, what they wanted me to do a test, and I was so scared. I got so scared that if this thing comes up and I have to go through something if it will have some effect on my body; 45 minutes, I was with that thought. And suddenly even if I have released that thought came back that so what if I die. The thought came up again. Forty-five minutes, I went through the whole thing and then - Oh, didn't I tell you that it's your will. So now, if you want me to die just now. I'm not going to think about it anymore. I'm going to chill out. I'm going to enjoy. But luckily, the doctor said - oh you don't have to go through this treatment. Your body is responding well to chemo and it's your choice right, if you want to do it or not. So, that helped me to relax. If we try and understand it, and then I also thought again self pity what am I. So understanding they're not understanding me, right. But understanding helps. And understanding, I think, you know, there's another book called True Love that's says a very beautiful sentence - Understanding requires practice. So that's practice, that word understanding has such depth giving space to people. Maybe understanding that is fuel within you. And if for example, if you say that out loud and communicate with people then we start becoming self aware and realize that it's a not judging. But saying, maybe it's fear. Maybe you're angry because of it, I don't know. But it's your own journey right. So each one of us has our own journey, I think. And that's so important to look at it from a completely different spectrum. Understanding human beings, we are all connected... All good. It's all good and whatever happened will be good right. Even if, we all read now right, that the soul, when the soul leaves the body, I think it's the happiest because... And so it's easy to say, I tell my mom that it's easy to say when you go up this way, I will cry. But I will look at it, as your transition and I would really like to share, which you know I read I think there's a book by ... and I can't pronounce the name but I love one part he took it with teenage boys, so what would you like to tell them and he said that you know we all have to die one day. But and we don't take anything with us. What we take with us is the feelings and the thoughts. And so that's why I keep telling her forget your fears, you know, now you're eighty-seven. Take with you a lot of happiness. So be happy and chill out. Because when you transition, at least on this journey, you have expanded your soul with those experiences and why they still thinking of negative things when you have so much of positivity. So I think that's one thing that makes me wake up every day and if you wake up, then it's a blessing, today is a blessing, right... Today, I'm interviewing my friend Patty Block. Patty and I are talking about something very, very near and dear to the hearts of all entrepreneurs. And that is pricing and the dynamics that go into why you may be undercharging and what you can do going forward. What's the mindset shifts that you might have to make. What are the realizations that you want to have as you consider pricing for your services and how does that complement the work that you do. And how that might affect the result that your clients ultimately get when they work with you. You'll really enjoy this conversation and I can't wait to hear your takeaways. Enjoy. Patty shares her insights: So, let me share a story with you. When I was growing up, my mom used to make these fabulous cookies. The whole house smells good. It was warm. The cookies were gooey kind of makes your mouth water. And, my whole life I watched my mom eat the broken cookies but it wasn't until I was a teenager that I even thought to ask her - 'Why do you only eat the broken cookies? Do they taste better?' And, she laughed and said 'No, I eat the broken cookies so you can have the whole ones.' And not too long ago, I saw this really shocking statistic 62% of women rely on their business for their primary income and 88% of those businesses bring in less than $100,000 a year. And, all of a sudden, this image of my mom eating the broken cookies popped into my head and that I realized that's what, we as women, are doing we're bringing that spirit of self sacrifice into our businesses. And, it's creating kind of an artificial glass ceiling. There is no glass ceiling in your business. And yet, sometimes we act like there is. And, especially, if we've come out of a corporate career, where there is a glass ceiling. Sure, and I think, probably, the biggest challenge for me - I'm a planner. So, I want all my ducks in a row. I want everything ticked and tied, before I start something. And, life doesn't work that way. And, frankly, business doesn't work that way. And that was a really hard thing for me to let go of. So one of the programs that I took so I have experienced that many, many people have where I took my old approach. Everything has to be planned and ready. And, I built some online courses and then I couldn't sell them. And didn't find a way to get people engaged and part, and ultimately realized, I was providing what I thought they needed. Not what they wanted. And, that was a hard pill to swallow because of course I put a huge amount of time and energy and money into building these courses. But I have subsequently learned a better way to do this, which is to start with market research. And it took me some time to trust that process, but it was eye opening. So my whole business model shifted in an unexpected way and an unplanned way, based on the feedback and the request from my audience. And, that really got me unstuck. So, I think that being open to that. Not seeing it as a threat market research is not a criticism of you. The information you gather and the feedback you get is a gift. And, seeing it in that way, and then putting it to use and creating things that are not only relevant for my audience but necessary. And, my recognizing this disconnect with why are we creating a glass ceiling in our business and limiting what we can do when that works against us and we have this feast and famine cycle. So, how can we get out of that cycle? How can we really move forward on a consistent basis and that's how I developed my programs... Patty Block helps women business owners who are experts in their fields fine-tune their operations and scale their revenue for strategic growth. As their trusted advisor, she brings a unique perspective, having experienced and solved many of the same complex issues women face, as leaders, as moms, daughters and sisters. A few years ago, Patty came across a shocking statistic: 62% of women rely on their businesses for their primary income, yet 88% of these businesses generate less than $100,000 in annual revenue. Her mission is teaching women how to generate more revenue with less stress, by reimagining pricing and selling. Today, I'm shaking things up. I'm having a conversation with you and I'm going to share insight gained from a very unexpected situation that occurred when I was invited to go to GAIA Studios, be interviewed by George Noory. I wanted to tell you the story behind the scenes and the tranformation that has led to from myself and perhaps countless others. Enjoy. Leisa shares with us: And then the series of questions that I gave to George something happened that's quite magical that bumped at least myself and perhaps George into another state of awareness. Not because we knew what was going on but because we began to speak at a higher self level. I was tuning in to my higher self and my senses is he was also doing the same. In that connection that we made for probably just a few minutes, something happened for him that cause him to change how he felt about forgiving people for things that they had done in the past. I felt that shift happened because this is the kind of things that I do in my coaching. I help people to step out of the pains, step out of the sufferings, step out of all the stuff that's going on in their business, with their relationships with money and see something; see it all from a higher perspective that they can become the engineer of their life so they can make decisions about being in peace and joy rather than suffering and difficulty. I saw the interview. I wanted you to know it touched me really deeply. I've been challenged with forgiveness or holding a grudge and not being able to let it go. Other people is saying I have resentments. I didn't realize how much they're holding me hostaged. So much input, right, from people from around the world. You know - Afghanistan, China, Hongkong, Australia, the Netherlands, you name it, like every corner of the planet, South America. People reaching out and saying that touched me. And even if they didn't understand why I had touched them, they were able to reach out and let me know that something had happened; something had shifted for them in the course of watching that conversation. Now, mind you, I still didn't totally understand because people reached out after my interviews on a regular basis. But I didn't understand the difference between when people are reaching out from this interview in comparison to those from the podcasts and the conversations I had with people. So when people are reaching out from all over the world about GAIA, and they're curious what's here for me. And they come in and they work with me. They do breakthrough work. They come into one of my business coaching programs. I'll be crystal clear. I teach business and money because I need a practical vehicle in which to show people their true nature. And running a business, playing with your money or figuring out your money situations are beautiful opportunities to come home to yourself. And that's all I'm doing is helping people come home to this state of loving, compassionate, blissful, infinite possiblity, awareness. What I sometimes say moving from scarcity into abundance. I'm so grateful that you're here. Thank you for listening. Thank you for being open right this growth mindset that I'm sure you know you have - couldn't be here if oriented for personal growth. So thank you for being open to these nudges inside of you. That there is a better way. That there is a way to live your life with great peace. And also to take good care of yourself, financially. Not because you're depriving other people of their abilities which is often can be misunderstood. But understanding the power that when you're able to take good care of yourself, you become incredibly talented and free from obstructions in helping other people do that same thing for themselves. You become a facilitator, a way shower for others... Today, I have my friend, Susie Carder, on the show and she has had quite a history that she's sharing. She ran Lisa Nichols' business for several years then went out on her own. I think she said in 2015, she had several businesses over the years. She is a phenomenal business builder that really knows the strategy on how it takes to have more profit in your company; how to grow exponentially. But we're getting into, not just that part, but the parts that I'd like to talk about which is the feelings inside of our experiences as business-owners and what can we learn about ourselves when it comes to taking time out for us, for rest, for relaxation, and for play. Susie gets open and vulnerable about her experiences as a long-time business owner and how she had to find her way to giving herself permission to rest and relax and have more fun in life. Enjoy. Susie shares with us his insights: And I'm like where's my people? Right, can be very isolating. So you have to get surround yourself with people who think like you. People who are playing 10 steps ahead of you. That's why masterminds are great. That's why coaching is great, because if you're around people that are playing 10 steps ahead of you, one dinner conversation, you know this, from years of doing it, one conversation can blow open like - 'Oh my God!' It's that little tick that we're working on our business. It's not one thing we do. Remember those combinations we used in when you're in high school, like your locker or you're at the gym, you know. And it's a combination one little tick off and that sucker wouldn't open, right? And that's business. One little take you can have everything right. But it's planned, right? And then I can go, 'Oh, look at me I have time...' I have time to hike. I have time to kayak. I have time to breathe. I have time to be a mom. So it's all in the schedule, but your tribe is definitely the most important - is finding those people that you can be real. And you don't have to have that mask on that you're perfect. Because as coaches-business owners, we always have that mask of 'I'm perfect; I have all the answers.' Well, I have a lot of answers but there's a lot I don't know so who do I need to talk to that might know more than I know. Is this what I'm supposed to be doing? I know, and I know everyone out there feels like you have a purpose or you want to find that purpose. And so I think, I got so much in the drive and the masculine energy that I forgot me, Susie. And so, when I sold my company, I was lost, like I didn't know who Susie, the woman, was anymore. Because I was this icon, this figure, this pillar, this leader, this thing that I created and then the minute that's gone I'm like well who am I now, right? I didn't know who I was and so again cosmic boot right again, I sold the business, all of a sudden, then the market crashed. And so, when the market crashed, I crashed. I lost my marriage of 17 years. Again, the cosmic boot of the rug being pulled out from under you like, who are you now. Because you can't be your accolades. I can't be my awards. I can't be my bank account. I can't be. I'm a woman. I'm a mother. I'm a sister. I'm a friend. I'm a lover right. I had to really redefine who is Susie... Susie Carder started out as a low paid hairdresser trying to support her 2 little girls. But working for someone else became a challenge (to say the least). So she decided to do whatever it took to create her own business. After much blood sweat and tears (mixed with cheap mascara) she went on to create, not one, but two $10 Million companies! Her core genius is the ability to simplify complicated issues by creating simple proven systems that are guaranteed to create dramatic growth for any company. She has helped over 100,000 entrepreneurs increase their revenues by more than 3000% and worked with top business moguls including John Assaraf, Lisa Nichols, Steve Harvey, Doug Carter, and Paul Mitchell. Today, I'm interviewing my friend Owen Ó Súilleabháin who is a coach, performer, and a whole lot more. We're discussing how he uses his experiences as a performer and his understanding of the arts and psychology, and philosophy, and bringing them together into his private coaching practice. How he uses his gifts with high-level CEOs, folks who have achieved incredible success and are looking at bringing their organization to the next level. They team up with Owen as their coach to ask questions that really provoke creativity and self-understanding and create new possibilities. Enjoy. Owen shares with us his insights: That's where it comes from. It comes from this like real curiosity that I have. I want to talk to people who are leaders in their field. And, fascinating is every single person in the world is an expert in something. Every single person is an expert in their own life. And so, actually, I have a question for every single person I'd be. Obviously, there's some people who are world leaders in their fields and luckily, I've come across these people, so I can go hang on. I've got some questions for you, and I want some answers. And that type of framing, I think is the beginning of what can be described as leadership coaching -curiosity, openness, and the openness to a sense of truth, telling… And in talking, as we all know, you overhear yourself saying, sometimes very profound things in conversation with another person. You can't do the same thing talking to yourself. But another person is in the room, this heightened sense of interactive infinite complexity, the spectral reality occurs. This third thing happens that cannot be accessed on your own. It just doesn't exist. So you need another person to be in conversation - active, energetic, listening, responsive, intelligent, sacred, safe conversation. And when you have that and when you throw kind of, you know, metaphor on the table, like a Kaleidoscope is a metaphor, even the shockers are actually a metaphor, you know. And when you throw the metaphor on the table, the art, it becomes symbolic it becomes this third thing. When you talk about this third thing, you're actually talking about yourself. You're not talking about the shockers at all. You're not talking about a Kaleidoscope. You're not talking about joining the dots. You're talking about yourself. So art is really just a metaphor. It's a way to access the inner theater, the inner drama that's occurred in your life, which is quite difficult to speak of directly. And also it's impossible to speak of something in its entirety because the reality of life is complexity that's why you can interpret a piece of art in as many ways as you want. And it's the same is true in life. Life can be interpreted at different times and from different perspectives in different ways. So it's really just about like dynamic real fun conversation. And what happens then is after our chat, after our talk, I actually take notes as well, while I speak with my clients, I take; I'm a fast hyper and I enjoy taking notes and listening to the words that people use. Afterwards, then I will send you the notes from the call you know, for you to reflect on person. And you'll see words that you didn't realize, you were using. You probably didn't realize you use the word Kaleidoscope and I'll show you and I'll say you check out this word. And just by having these conversations you stand up slightly in a different posture. Your bearing your connection with the world is just ever so slightly shifted like having going to the gym, you know. You work out on a certain muscle and you don't notice it instantly growing. But over a period of time, you're bearing your position, the way you hold yourself in the world starts to shift. And when you do that, the world comes to meet you in a new way and that's a very simple thing. If you're grimacing and sort of hunched in your body, people are not, people are going to leave you alone. If you're sort of more receptive and open in your body, the world is going to come to meet you in a certain way. So that's what happens in this coaching work, working with the arts. Your body shifts and you embody your world yourself in a different way. And the world comes to meet you in a different way. Owen Ó Súilleabháin is a singer, composer, facilitator and executive leadership coach. He believes in the power of art to awaken our most dynamic and creative forms into being. He has had the honor of working with some of the great leaders in the world of the arts such as director Steven Spielberg, actor Russell Crowe, violinist Nigel Kennedy, and poet David Whyte. He draws on his experience in the performing arts and on his academic background in philosophy, Greek and Roman civilizations, and Peace Studies as well as the wisdom of Celtic culture to liberate creativity in individuals and organizations. Today's conversation is with Steve Werner who's sharing what goes on in people's minds before they buy, before they decide to work with you; what's happening from a psychology standpoint and how it can help you improve the sales in your business. What's really fun about this conversation is Steve has a tremendous amount of experience in selling from the stage and he tells his story about how he got started, what he's up to now and how he helps people. You'll walk away with not one but several breakthroughs about how you can be more effective in selling to your customers, because you're creating awesome relationships, right from the start. Enjoy. Steven shares with us his insights: I made about nine grand and let me tell you that nine grand was like amazing. From there we grew, so 2013 till COVID we held 63 events. 41 of them were my own personal events, and then we held some for clients. I learned speaking on stage I got to go all over the world spoken more than 370 stages digital and physical like live stages. Absolutely love it, but it was not easy, and I will tell you Leisa and I were talking before the show like I got slapped in the face last week by a mistake that I made. Now mistake is not me failure is not me, it is an event that happened and something that we used to learn from and I learned. And I move forward. That's like one of the main takeaways like we are never done learning; and never done growing; and never done moving forward. And, the minute you think you haven't figured out, you will get slapped and that's just part of the growth cycle. Like it's not - it doesn't have to be painful right it's more I think of it more like a playful, like 'ha!', like imagine, you know... When things went sideways for you, you figured out. You said, I am going to take action. It might not be the perfect action but I'm okay with that. It is - failure is not me. It is an event and if I learned from it, that's great because I'll figure it out next time. Rather than being frozen and having everything go sideways I might as well take action, see what I can do. And it is uncomfortable. Like you will have emotional reactions. Commitment - one of my favorite quotes is 'commitment doesn't care how you feel'. Commitment cares that you take action. We make a commitment when we are in a state of euphoric - 'this is going to be great'; 'we're going to do it it's going to be amazing and we make the commitment'. Where commitment meets the road is when you don't feel like doing it. When you don't feel like getting up at 6am and going to the gym that's when you find out if you're disciplined and if you're committed. Same thing goes with this, when things it's real easy to say, I want to be a millionaire. Right? That's an easy statement to make. But when it gets hard, when things don't go the way that you want, when you're getting made fun of, when your fear of judgment pops its head up -- that's when you decide that's like every you make that decision over and over and over. So being uncomfortable and still acting -- huge trait. Probably one of the top three traits of the massively successful people. I want you to think about the story that I just told you about the teacher. A lot of times what we do - there are a one or two - the people who are looking to learn from you or are looking to be involved with you, they're at a level one or Level two; we're to level 10 maybe we're at a level eight. That's okay. You just need to get them to move forward a little bit and a lot of times, that is just helping them take action one step after the other, you don't need to be perfect. I've said I've stumbled over my words on this talk. I've given, spoke on 300 - 350 plus stages this point, I still say 'uhm' I stumble around. I forget some stuff sometimes. It doesn't matter. Authenticity, being direct with people is way better than being super polished. Being super polished - people will look at you, and be like I like, I don't, I don't know how to relate to them. Engagement is way more important. One, I always lead with a question, right - how many of you have been on a webinar in the last six months? How many of you have fallen asleep on a webinar in the last six months? I help people build webinars and live events that stop that from happening. That's enough about me. Hey Leisa, tell me a little bit more about you and what you do and how I can serve you. That's a much more meaningful conversation or how are you using webinars in your business right now? I know you said that you are speaking a lot. What's one thing that I could help you with? That is a much more powerful and even if you were to be like - you know I can't really get into it right now I don't know how to articulate it. The fact that you showed up, asking a question and being memorable is going to be much more powerful than me spitting 90 seconds of talking as fast as I can. Eight years ago Steve left his corporate job to change lives through live events and public speaking. Since then he has: Held 63 sold-out events for himself and clients Built and critiqued more than 370 different presentations Spoken on more than 250 live and virtual stages including Harvard's business summit on marketing, influence, and conversion. When COVID hit ‘pause' on live events, he pivoted — helping 31 online entrepreneurs launch storyselling webinars that net over $5.1M in sales in the last 18 months. Steve's focus is on helping coaches, influencers, and small business owners turn their stories into 6-figure sales machines on the live and digital stage. I am so happy to have you here today, I am interviewing my good friend, George Kinder. George is known as the father of life planning. He was a financial advisor who wrote this amazing book that impacted me many years ago around The Seven Stages of Money Maturity and inspired my work. And today, we're having a very different kind of conversation because he's talking about his latest book which he is giving away for free. And, it is poetry that's oriented to the present moment. He ended up chronicling with photographs and with these poems over the course of a year what he experiences in the place that he lives on a pond not that far from Walden pond. But how the nature in this seasons affect his life and it's just a really fun conversation. I love George's work, and I know you'll really enjoy it. He shares with us his insights: Right and, and I mean it's when you think about each moment is a moment potentially a freedom for you, and if you take more moments in your life and live more freedom in here. Every encounter you make is going to have that in it, and people are going to see that and feel it and spread it in their own way we don't know. It's a mystery how we impact things. And you know if you get lost in the civilization piece of it and think – ‘Oh it's got a loss, got to change or the votes have to go this way'. Well yeah, I mean that's what you're kind of fighting for, in a way. But if there's a certain randomness to it. There's too much energy around the attachment to the result, just do the good work. And, things will come about. Transformation will occur. And everywhere I go, I make sure this is part of it, because all we need is one piece of legislation that would require this – ‘a fiduciary standard of obligation is required for all institutions – corporate, nonprofit, and governmental to place the interests of all stakeholders of humanity; of democracy; and the living planet that sustains us. First, above their own self-interest so it's where the reason we're seeing this chaos right now is because we've allowed kind of greed and arrogance. We've rewarded more greed and arrogance that we've rewarded wisdom and compassion. Absolutely, I mean it's something we don't really even fully understand Confucius. I love reading the ancient masters and teachers. And, one of the things that he said he was, he lived in a time when there was tremendous corruption. And I don't know if you know this, but he died thinking that he failed. There was so much corruption in China was at that point in five or six or seven, different warring states, wars, terrorism, terrible stuff. And he figured out how to solve it. And, a lot of it had to do with being good people; being good; being kind; being responsible. And, he was asked once by, you know, kind of the President, or the Emperor, the CEO of this particular state. The guy said, ‘Hey, you know, how can I start my people, they're thieving, and they're taking advantage of each other; and they're rude; and they're all this kind of stuff. How can I stop them from doing that? And Confucius said – first, really very simple, all you have to do is stop doing it yourself'. Today, I'm interviewing Marie-Elizabeth Mali about how to improve our relationships - we're also interweaving two very important topics that are near and dear to our hearts - money and inheritances. This is quite the combination of things to explore and it's like you get to eavesdrop into our girlfriend conversation. Enjoy and I can't wait for you to get to know Marie Elizabeth. She shares with us her insights: When you start doing that it also positively impacts all the other areas; keeps you on the same team; it helps you feel better about yourself. You can indicate more lovingly and clearly because your needs are being met. You know, all those things, so they all interweave together and that's kind of the entire framework of what I call relationship alchemy, which is a deep magic. Like we do not prioritize 'being' in this culture. We're a very 'doing' culture but everything you do and have in your life is a result of who you be. And, if you don't spend any time attending to who you be, you're going to burn out because you're going to be stuck in doing. And it's the shifting to bring in - who am I being right now? How do I want this to feel? You said it so beautifully - 'This doesn't feel good'. Pay attention to how it feels first and the results will flow so much more readily. And, I think that's the magic that you teach and in your domain of money and flow in that; and that's the magic that I teach in relationship. And no matter what circumstance we find ourselves in, it's possible to look at the circumstance and this is how I usually like to say it is - 'What quality is this circumstance asking me to develop? What do I need more of in me, here?' So, if the circumstances is incredibly difficult and painful, and hard, maybe, what i'm needing to cultivate is tenacity; is vision; is courage to break the mold and do something different. Maybe it's a compassion. You know, if my circumstance was easier, so to speak out the starting gate as mine certainly was. You know, maybe the stance, the quality I'm being asked to develop is compassion; is understanding; is not being blind to what actually happens in the world. And also, not being so mired and guilt and shame that I can't do my part to make it better. As a Relationship Alchemist, two-time TEDx Speaker, and host of the Relationship Alchemy podcast, Marie-Elizabeth Mali shows women leaders how to cultivate deeper love and connection in their relationships. Drawing on her Master's degree in Chinese Medicine and over 20 years of client work, she teaches people how to show up as authentic leaders in their relationships and work instead of twisting themselves to fit in. Marie-Elizabeth's work has been featured in Thrive Global, SWAAY, and Forbes. She is also a published poet and an underwater photographer who has a thing for sharks. Today, I'm interviewing Dr. Darnyelle Jervey Harmon who is a growth specialist for entrepreneurs. We're talking about the blocks that entrepreneurs run into as they're building their businesses. We discussed how you can stay motivated when you face failure with situations that don't work out the way that you had first thought. Darnyelle has built a very successful coaching company and she has faced incredible hardship. I love her spirit and attitude in which she runs her business and her life. She's very intentional and she's sharing the journaling exercises and the practices that she maintains to keep at the top of her game. I'm sure you'll really enjoy this. Dr. Darnyelle shares her insights: Like it was a hard. It was all of those things, but I just knew that where I wasn't that moment wasn't going to be where I was going to end. And then I was willing to consistently show up for myself to dust myself off; to tell myself a different story; to change the story in my mind, like I think that's probably one of the most important exercises that I started way back that I still do to this day is I write every every year. I write the story of the year right. And so, this is the positive present tense version of my life for 2022. And I like, literally, sit down and I'm talking about myself as if this is already my reality for the things that I want. And then, in the morning when I wake up, I read it. I read it out loud because the things that we speak out become the things that we experience in our life. And, before I go to bed at night, I read it out loud because that's what I want to think about that's what I want to permeate in my subconscious. You know what I mean, it's so it's kind of like that kind of energy like once you've accomplished something really great the things that will attempt to derail you won't have the power of derailment because you can hold on to the memory that you've already done something pretty great and so that's kind of really what it is. I believe in myself. I know that if I don't believe in myself, no one else will. I know that my confidence will close more clients; will hire more employees; will book more podcasts or speaking engagements than anything else. And so, I wear my confidence with everything that I have and I operate as if the only reason why I don't have it, is because I haven't decided I want it yet. It's all mindset. And so i'm extremely intentional about what I allowed to be said and what I say about myself, because I know all of that has the ability to determine how I show up at any particular point in time. And for me, that is what gives me life; that is what gives me the excitement and the energy to, you know, draft an email that gives Leisa all excited when she reads it because I just want you to know that you're, you know, every single person I don't care what you've been through and I'm not trying to, you know, denounce or not acknowledge it. But you went through it to make you stronger and to make you better. And if it didn't take you out, it's because there's still purpose for your life. There's still something you need to do so let's get to what you need to do instead of talking about what happened in the past, because that isn't helping you. It's not serving you at any possible way. Let's get to where it is you want to be instead by taking those consistent actions; putting one foot in front of the other; saying one affirmation in front of another; and saying it even when you don't believe it so that you can eventually get to the point where it is a belief that you hold and it gives you power to take the next step. I did it before I realized it because I was just being. I was doing. I was in action. And I think a lot of times, we don't realize that - that is actually the way that we hit the milestones. And, as we give ourselves grace, as we you know really change the way that we see ourselves and open up an ability for us to dialogue with ourselves to get to the point where we're not so hard and stringent. Like there are very few things that are black and white and finite; most things are flexible. And if we allow that same flexibility into the way that we show up in our lives and in our businesses, I think that will only create an environment for us to win more and experience even more success, instead of filling the damnation of failure. Today, I am interviewing my friend, Jonathan Fields. Jonathan has been an incredible source of inspiration and support over the years along with his wife Stephanie. I'm really excited to be sharing his latest book with you "Sparked". We're talking about the journey of how that book came together, what he has learned about himself through the assessment, and also what I've learned as a sage/maker with an anti-spark type of nurture. So you have to dig into the conversation and hear about what we both learned about ourselves and how it can make us better leaders, better team members, better partners. I am just loving this conversation and I hope you do too. Jonathan shares his insights: Yeah you know, so there are a couple of seeds along the way, and I've been thinking about this a lot like when did this because the book is based on an entire body of work, which is really asking the question - 'How do I find and do work that is deeply meaningful to me that fills me with purpose that gives me access to flow that lets me feel fully expressed?' And, I've been obsessed with that question for pretty much my entire adult life. But when I was tracking it back, I think I really the really early seeds of this particular question we're probably planted for me around 911 now you know until very recently, I was a lifelong New Yorker. Was there in the city during 911; knew somebody who went to work and didn't come home that day who was very successful it didn't change anything. And you know, of course, thousands of people didn't come home that day and being in the city, you know sort of witnessing what happened all around me. And I, the day before and you know, this story I had actually signed a six-year lease for a Florida building to open what I hoped would become one of the premier yoga centers in New York City and I woke up the next day to 911 so I had a lot of questions spinning my head one was you know - 'Who did I know you know who wasn't with us anymore and the other big question was 'Am I really gone to say yes to launching a business?' into what was then just a sea of profound suffering and uncertainty, just dramatic uncertainty. And there are a lot of interesting parallels to the last couple of years in odd ways. And through, really thinking about what happened to the people that I knew that didn't come home that day and the decisions, I wanted to make I really decided that it was important for me to say yes to doing something that I knew would fill me up and also potentially really be of service to a broader community. We only have one pass-through like and we have no promises made to us and you know, to the extent that we have control over the way that we get to spend our days. I wanted to figure out like how do I make decisions, what do I say yes and no to that will make me feel most alive, that would be most meaningful in like my time that I have here. And that seed is just kind of brewed and showing up in a lot of different ways that literally fueled allowed at the yoga that I taught for seven years. It then feels the launch of businesses and books and brands and Good Life project, which is actually celebrating its 10th year anniversary this year which kind of blows me away. Was you know definitely an outgrowth of that too and it's really been in the last five years or so that I've started to devote a lot more energy to the narrower question of identifying work that fills us up that you know, makes us come alive and can I figure out how to build tools that would really help people in that quest because there's a lot of great work out there, but there were specific questions that it wasn't seeing answered. And I want to go deep into those questions so it's been kind of an evolutionary process with a couple of particular moments that have dotted it along the way, that really sort of you know, like shifted my course a little bit. That we didn't know and we had language to explain so much of why certain things came more easily to me and why certain things were really hard to me and it created both like a deeper conversation and connection and also in certain circumstances forgiveness. And so it's really been interesting to see how the body of work has sparked conversations that have nothing to do with the world of work. But really are just about like between people and how they show up in the world and helping people understand each other. And then, work together more effectively, even if it has nothing to do with their jobs if it's just the way that you run your household the way that you parent, the way that you like show the volunteering around the neighborhood it's just it's really interesting to see you know you create something that in your head has one purpose and one intention and then you let it go to into the world, and you really have no at that point it's like people will start to tap it to do all sorts of different things, and so it's been amazing to hear all the different ways that people are sure like applying the broader body of work, like the book itself sure, but also just the body of work in the tools. Jonathan Fields—the Good Life Guy—delivers insights that spark purpose, possibility, and potential. On a decades-long quest to discover what makes people come fully alive, Jonathan is an award-winning author, Webby-nominated producer, business innovator, and host of one of the world's top podcasts, Good Life Project. Today, I'm interviewing my good friend, Sarah Santacroce. Sarah is a coach and an author, who wrote about selling like we're human. It is filled with so much good information for those of us coaches, consultants, who regularly sell your products and services to others. Sarah has done a lot of research -- she's worked with her clients to better understand their questions and I love her approach to sales. Sarah's book is a wonderful resource manual that helps you make better decisions about sales conversations and ensure they align with your core values and help you build great relationships with your clients. Enjoy. Sarah shares her insights: - "To really just have a human conversation about what it looks like to work with you, or to participate in this program. And I think that's what we are maybe forgetting, is that - it really is just a human conversation and it's not one-directional. It's like what you said first, it's like you have to listen first. And then, you just and oftentimes it's just like, 'I'm ready to, you know, to work with you. How do we start? How does it work?'" - "Yeah, just kind of this transparency takes so much weight off and pressure off the sales calls to really just think I'm - I talked about the serene garden, you know that's where I envision the sales conversation happening. Just sitting, you know, at a table with two cups of tea and sitting with this other person who is in a very vulnerable place. Let's not forget that, because they have a problem right they come to you. They're not there to judge you and judge your price and all of that. Note, they have a problem that they need help for and just having yeah a human conversation..." - "Yeah I think it's really that proud of as well. And the phrase I use is like we both want to sleep well at night. I want to go to bed and feel like in all integrity and say this person paid me a lot of money, but man, you know I really helped them. Maybe not instantly, because as we know, coaching takes time. But in two years, they're still going to look back and say wow that was great, you know, working with them. And, I'm sure that all your listeners that's the kind of businesses that they want to build as well." Over a decade of running a successful LinkedIn Consulting business inspired a yearning in Sarah to create a global movement that encourages people to bring more empathy and kindness to business & marketing. As a ‘Hippie turned Business Coach', Sarah has written two books, hosts the Humane Marketing podcast, and works with heart-centered entrepreneurs to question their assumptions when it comes to marketing & give them permission to market their business their way, the gentle way! Sarah shares a fresh perspective and doesn't shy away from calling things out that no longer work for many of us when it comes to the current marketing model. Her clients sometimes refer to her as ‘the female Seth Godin'. Learn more about Sarah: www.humane.marketing www.humane.marketing/book2 www.humane.marketing/1page

And after 30 years of real estate investing I've learned just how much having a team of people at your side can save you time, money, and headaches. I've invited Dustin on the show to share about an upcoming conference he's hosting in Phoenix in March of 2022 and you can learn more about what he's planning and how it can help all of us who invest or want to invest in the future in real estate. Enjoy… Dustin shares with us his insights: Now, if I would've stopped back in 2006, I said - "Oh, no, I don't want to do that". I wouldn't be where I am today. So all that to say, there are... There are some things you have to navigate through, you have to know how to do it. But the best thing is to learn from people like you Leisa. Everybody needs to learn that there are ways to do it, to be successful, that if you follow the fads of flipping houses or follow the fads of, you know, hoping for appreciation. And if you also follow the idea that now's the worst time to invest, like it's going to crash, you're going to miss the boat. And here's my, my thought, I love this quote - "When is the best time to plant a tree?" Well, it was 20 years ago. The next best time is literally today. As long as you're planting the right tree, you're doing it the right way that people have already done. They've proven time and time again that this is the successful way to do it. You're going to be planting the right tree. So, I say right now is, is the best time to literally don't invest is literally right now... And I'm like, man, he is a great guy, he's got a great business. We see eye to eye. We love hanging out together. Let's start a mastermind. And from that, it's been literally what, two to three years now, and our businesses have grown. Just because, we grow together. So all that to say, if you've never been a part of the community, you're missing out on exponentially, speeding up, not just growth, but even timeframe. Let's say you want to start investing in real estate and you haven't gotten started, but you're going to do it by yourself. It's going to take you a lot of time 'cause you're going to have to learn through the school of hard knocks. You're going to have to figure it out on your own. Why not be among other people who are going to help you speed up the timeframe instead of taking, let's say guess around a number - two years to invest the way you want to. Maybe take six months because these people are already done it. So it's going to speed it up. It's going to make everything better. And, you're also not going to have naysayers in there. You're going to have people who are going to say, you know what, I've done it. This is how I did it and how you can do it as well. So that's the great thing about being around other people who are like-minded. They've already done it that are going to help you along the way. Today, I have the honor of interviewing my friends, Joe Saul Sehy, and Emily Guy. Birken. They've written a new book called Stacked, Your Super Serious Guide To Modern Money Management. And if you've heard Joe before he is the host of the Stacking Benjamins podcast, that he always brings comedy to everything that he does. Emily has also been on my podcast in the past. She's written several books about money management. Bringing the two of them together to share their wisdom in this book that inspires you to think differently about your relationship with money is really special. I love this conversation and we learn how they brought their strengths together to write a funny money book (I wasn't sure that was possible...) and what you can learn by reading it. It's such a great story. I love the giving attitude that both of them bring into everything that they do. And I know you'll have fun with this conversation. Enjoy... Joe and Emily shares: From Joe: “I think, and I don't know, if you want to answer this also, but for me, the book was meant to be a guide that you can pick up wherever you are in your journey. And it certainly is meant specifically - the beginning is meant for beginner, but the second, not even the second piece, the last quarter of the book is specifically meant to challenge those people that you and I met during our old careers as financial advisors. When they'd say, I think I'm doing okay. And I would always challenge them by saying, I don't think your goals are bigger - big enough then. And, it's not that I want to challenge people that your goals aren't right, because your goals are definitely right for you. But I think there's so many people out there that could be helping their community that could be doing more. That could be more efficient with their money. They could be bringing their sister, their brother, along with them for this wonderful ride.” From Emily: “You can do it. This is, you know, and if you don't do it right the first time, try again. This is something that - you can. Use these skills that you've been learning, you know. Cut your teeth on the simpler stuff and work your way up. And so, that's something, I'm really pleased with and proud of with this book, is that we don't assume that our readers are not going to be able to handle things like the efficient frontier. We know that they can do it. And so, it's going to be something where even if you're starting at the very beginning, like I don't even know what a budget is or how to make one, you will be able to get to a point where you can be like - ‘Oh yes, the efficient frontier at cocktail parties and feel very confident…” Emily Guy Birken has worn a lot of hats throughout her career: a temporary tattoo artist, bookseller, AmeriCorps volunteer, and teacher. Throughout it all, there's been one constant - She's a huge money nerd. In 2010, she turned her excitement about spreadsheets into a career as a Plutus Award-winning freelance writer in the financial sphere. Her varied career combined with her background in education helps her make complex financial topics relatable. She is the author of five books: The 5 Years Before You Retire, Choose Your Retirement, Making Social Security Work for You, End Financial Stress Now, and the just-launched Stacked: Your Super Serious Guide to Modern Money Management, written with Joe Saul-Sehy. Emily lives in Milwaukee with her spouse and two sons, plus their dog, Tivo, and their cat, The Dude. And, Joe is the creator and co-host of the Stacking Benjamins podcast and co-author of "STACKED: Your Super-Serious Guide To Modern Money". He is a current board member at large of The Plutus Foundation and former Board President and Board Member of Partnership For The Pathway. While Joe's “money expert story” includes being a former financial advisor (16 years) and representing American Express and Ameriprise in the media. His real story is how he was a money disaster in his early life, pulled his financial house into order, and left his business at age 40 to pursue an entirely different path. Today, I am interviewing Matt Champagne, PhD. We're discussing client and prospect surveys and the pioneering research that he's done over 25 years on maximizing the uses of customer feedback to grow your business and your profits. We're sharing ideas and ways to use surveys in your business in more ways than you've probably considered. Using them to become more in tune with your ideal client's needs so you can help them in bigger ways and be able to capture their attention with your communications. I took copious notes and I'm sure you will too. Enjoy. Dr. Matt Champagne shares: And when we got to the end of the period and stuff, we got all this email from these travel agents. Where's the survey? When is the next survey coming? And they're like - how strange is that people asking for the survey? When we asked them later, would you like to do this again? 97% of the audience said - “Yes, send me another survey”. And we asked them why. They said, because I made a difference. I made an impact on the cruise line industry. I felt like my voice was heard, what I said made a difference. And I'm thinking to myself, what you did was go online and click a button and hit submit. That's what you, in reality, that's what you did. You went and you typed in a form and you click the button. But in their minds, the psychology behind it is they felt like they were helping the cruise line industry - make decisions on how to run the protocols and how to get people back onto cruises. It just felt that close. That's the power when you do surveys correctly, closing the loop and sharing the results and continuing the conversation… For 28 years, Dr. Champagne has been a researcher, university professor, and serial entrepreneur. He was named “Technology Visionary” by SURVEY Magazine for his pioneering work merging psychology and technology to create never-before-seen customer feedback solutions. When not teaching, Matt can be found SCUBA diving or on-stage playing keyboard in his rock band. Today, I am interviewing Stephanie Breedlove of Breedlove Capital. Stephanie co-founded Home Pay, a full-service company that helps families process, payroll, and taxes related to their household employees. I heard from John Warrillow about Stephanie's experience with selling her company for over $50 million to Care.com. Super inspiring to hear about some of the struggles that she had to go through all the way to what she's up to now. Many of us who are founding companies deal with all sorts of things that can come up and it can be easy to get distracted by the small stuff when in reality, the potential can be so much bigger than we realize. When you hear her story and how she niched and how that played out for her success, it is very inspiring and will likely give you some ideas about how you can increase the value of your own company. Enjoy! Stephanie shares her insights: - "I will say the number one thing that I have become is more self-aware and, I think that's really hard for people. And, when you are an entrepreneur, I do think that you are more successful if you can look in the mirror and recognize the warts and work on them, which none of us like to do. On the flip side, recognize the great moments that have happened. And, you're the one leading that ship and those moments and pat yourself on the back. So I feel like one of the gifts that come to me in this journey is the highs and the lows that come with self-awareness. And, I will say, I think that makes you a better person." - "Absolutely nothing can replace the value of hard work and sacrifice. As long as it's, you know, burning you out and you're finding balance in that process, nothing replaces that hard work, the sacrifice, the compromise. And I love this adage, that failure is a learning for something next. And that's something next may be the greatest thing you ever do. And that's what makes you feel like a rock star? I mean, that those risks, the hard work, the compromise, the failures, all these things that sound like negative terms, you know, they turn you into a rock star to think that you're really good at, and that feels good." Stephanie is a career entrepreneur. Growing a business from idea to scale to long-term value is where her best talents are exercised, and she has been passionately dedicated to the success of small businesses for nearly 30 years. In 1992, Stephanie co-founded HomePay by Care.com (formerly Breedlove & Associates), the nation's leading firm dedicated to making household employment payroll and tax compliance easy for busy families and their caregivers. After more than two decades focused on quality growth, building value, and earning industry leadership, the company joined forces with Care.com, the largest online marketplace for finding in-home care. Stephanie is continuing her entrepreneurial journey as co-founder of Breedlove Capital, a family office focused on acquisition of small businesses with big potential. Entrepreneurs are the creators of new businesses and generate 80% of new jobs each year. They are instrumental to the growth and strength of the economy, and Breedlove Capital is dedicated to playing a role in smart progress for the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Stephanie's community work is a natural extension of her entrepreneurial passion. She is a mentor, board member, and investor to early-stage companies. Her best-selling book, All In, provides example and strategy to encourage female entrepreneurs to grow companies of scale. Stephanie and her family are also dedicated to giving time and resources to the things they value most (besides entrepreneurship) - education, the outdoors, and family. Today, I'm interviewing my good friend Steven Morris. We're talking about art, business, new paradigms, and ways to think differently about business. Steven's new book, The Beautiful Business recently came out and I couldn't wait to share more about Steven's reflective approach to capitalism and the future of work with you. Enjoy! Steven Morris is the president of Matter Consulting, Inc. He is a brand and culture advisor, author, and speaker. He works with business leaders to mine, articulate, and activate their driving belief system to create organizational integrity, evolved leaders, connected cultures, and unignorable brands. His upcoming book is entitled The Beautiful Business (which publishes in October of 2021 by Conscious Capitalism Press) that focuses on how businesses of all sizes can build integrity, belonging and magnetism through their brand and cultures. His previous book is The Evolved Brand: Why and How to Build a Brand with Soul and Humanize Your Marketing. Through his widely read blog (25,000+ subscribers) and as a contributing writer to Retail Observer (monthly column), Business Week, Brand Week, Conscious Company Magazine, Communication Arts, HOW Magazine and MarketingProfs, Steve writes about the intersection of brand, culture, business, innovation, and wholehearted living. Steve is also an artist who shows his paintings in galleries across the US, a long-time surfer, and a beekeeper. Steven shares with us his insights: - "You know, it's interesting. Meaning comes from struggle. Meaning comes from us, confronting the challenges of life. And as we talked about earlier, there is no going through life without some trauma, without some challenges, without some difficulty. It's how we address those things that defines what meaning we make behind those things. So the leaders that come to me typically in the world of business, they've had that version of awakening. It could be, again, any different versions of it. It could even be a spiritual awakening. And now all of a sudden they want to reclaim a larger version of themselves and they want to actually do what I didn't do in my business, which is put more wholeness into their work and not just do it for themselves. But they're called in some way, shape or form to do it in a broader context and affect the people around them." - "The way that things used to be is that when we asked the kid, what do you want to be when you grow up? The question really was what profession do you want to be? And, you know, it starts with, I want to be a fireman or policeman, you know, if you're a young man or, you know, whatever, a nurse or a doctor or whatever. But now it's what kind of human do you want to be? And how do you want to contribute to the world? How do you want to live your life? And now all of a sudden our work story, our personal story, our… our spiritual story. All these stories are beginning to meld together. And I think what's beginning to happen is that it's not work first. It's life first or integration first. And we're looking to live a fulfilled life, or what I call would call a beautiful life in a business that we feel like we're a belonging member, a contributing member. Where our full self is invited to show up and shine in that environment, not just the mastery that we have in our vocation, but really the human being that we are. And we raise our hand, we join those people and we contribute towards something greater than ourselves, which is all what we all want to do as human beings contribute to something that's greater than simply us." - "They can ask themselves, what does a beautiful life, what does running, shaping, or working for a beautiful business actually mean to me? I want them to have that first private conversation with themselves that determines what is my value system. What is the greatest expression of my own humanity that can show up in my vocation that is in align with my integrity of the way I am as a human being my personal life. And so what I hope the book does is it really helps individuals and lots of them ideally. Claim their own version of human artistry and think deeply about what matters in my life and how can I utilize my own time on this planet, this precious time in this planet with the greatest acts of imagination that I possibly can to live in to that fullest version of my life." Today, I'm interviewing Astrid Mueller. I invited her to share about her experience over the past year of being diagnosed with cancer and how that changed her life. Astrid recently released her new book that helps you give yourself permission to sparkle which we dive into during our chat. Enjoy this conversation - it's absolutely beautiful… Astrid Mueller helps spiritual entrepreneurs, creative entrepreneurs (and people who really need it) make their life and business more MAGICAL. Clients hire her for Design alchemy, Brand Strategy consulting, and workshops that empower, heal, energize + bring joy. She wrote a book called "Permission To Sparkle" with a fun intuitive card game. She's a breast cancer thriver and learned how to sparkle through any life challenges. She believes that anything is possible always with the right ingredients. She started healing rapidly, and she said that it's because she's focused on joy, and her sparkle principles and that even within big challenges like cancer, she started living more and more of her dream life fulfilled from within. Astrid says - So ground yourself, first. ...then just give yourself a moment of love and start there. And then see if you can find faith somehow ...for me I found a full belief in knowing that I will be okay, and (that setbacks) are only temporary, so any kind of faith helps. So if you're like - 'Do I really - I still want to do things here', so please connect with that and then find our own connection to spirit and ask. 'Even I don't know what you are but help me and I want to do this, I want to stay' - helped me find what I need to find so I have a spirit connection. And then, the game begins with a spark of them to curiosity, and so, how I want in every moment like - hmm... I wonder what I can learn here; hmm... I wonder if this is aligned; hmm... what if this was possible?; what if what the doctor says isn't true… So always listening to, you know, to your height and what feels right to you because we have our own inner wisdom that our pure guidance is right here; and we're supported by my spirit in walking that so we can really walk strong that way. Today, I'm sharing a beautiful conversation with my friend, Tracy Crossley about overcoming self-sabotage. Tracy's written a book called Overcoming Insecure Attachment and we're discussing what it is and how to help yourself if you have tendencies that get in your way from being your best self. Tracy's popular weekly mental health podcast, Overcome Insecure Attachment offers listeners a different perspective when it comes to breaking the cycle of unhealthy behaviors that keep them stuck repeating pain-inducing actions on auto-pilot. The podcast addresses folks who want to deal with their emotional baggage and get unstuck, happy, and have a clear mindset. Tracy mentions: “So we take a deep dive and it's kind of a long process, but anyways, we take a deep dive and I'll just wrap it up with, you know, we have to go to the awareness, the feeling and emotionally risky action. And that's what we have to lead people through. So it's more of, it's a linear thing. But it's not like you can go - okay, I did step one. Now I've got to use step two because we deal with emotions and how they live in the body and how to break a pattern this way. And once people can learn how to break a pattern permanently, they can do it anywhere in their life. They can, they can just know, okay, I've got to maybe work through this resistance. I have to do it. But once I do, then I can break the pattern.” Tracy Crossley is a Behavioral Relationship Expert, Author and Podcast Host, who specializes in treating individuals with unhealthy LIFE and relationship patterns. Tracy helps clients transform, impostor syndrome, insecure attachment, negative belief systems, breaking the cycle of narcissistic damage, destructive self-talk, and more. With a background in psychology, an innate emotional intuition, which draws from her own personal experience. Tracy shows her clients how to PERMANENTLY change the repetition of the unhealthy, unhappy and unfulfilled cycles personally and professionally. Today, I am interviewing Todd Brown who is a master-marketer, copywriter, educator, and author. Todd Brown is one of my mentors, and he is somebody whom I've been following and learning from for many years. I have grown a lot from his teachings and the two biggest things that apply most to my methodology are the unique mechanism and the offer awareness spectrum. In this episode, we talked about some of the critical elements when it comes to developing sales messages: marketing intellectual property and how to differentiate yourself from the competition. This is one of the best conversations in my guest podcasts. You will get a lot from this and I can't wait to hear your takeaways! A few of the key topics we discuss: Marketing and selling are not the same activity. The importance of having a unique mechanism when it comes to marketing your programs. The offer is the make-or-break component of any campaign. The power of differentiation. You're going to want to turn off all the distractions and get focused when you listen to this conversation. If you are in business and if you are responsible for marketing or sales in any way, then you're really going to learn a lot by listening in. I cannot believe our good fortune to learn from someone who's so incredibly talented at what he teaches! Todd Brown is considered the #1 authority on engineering profitable customer acquisition campaigns. He is the expert other experts go to when they need help with their own business. With clients in over 33 different countries, operating in over 65 different mass and niche markets, it's been said that Todd has helped his students engineer more six and seven-figure funnels than any other expert online today. His list of coaching students, consulting clients, and subscribers reads like a Who's Who of A-List Entrepreneurs. His Agency has created the promotions behind some of the biggest direct response marketers and companies online today. And, entrepreneurs fly-in to West Palm Beach, Florida — from all around the globe — for a single day of guidance with Todd to learn his renowned E5 Method. Todd shared this -- “Now we just need to understand why. And then it's that? Why, what's the result of doing these five steps? Why do you only have to do these five steps? Why in this order, we're able to take that information that we uncover during that interrogating, and that becomes the heart and soul of the education-based marketing, which is what we then use to lead somebody to realize. "Yeah this, I see why this method, this mechanism, this framework is what I've been missing. I realize that's the way to do it." So ultimately we're leading by the end of the marketing portion of the campaign. We've led the prospect to say – “Yeah, you know what, you guys, you're right. That is the right way to do it. That is, I get it. It makes total sense. I see it”. Then when we segue into the offer, which becomes very simple. That's why we put together XYZ package and let me tell you everything that you get with it and everything that it will do for you. They're thrilled! They're like - "Thank you. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to get this mechanism that I now realize is the best thing for me". And so, it's just a beautiful thing in motion and it doesn't have that icky factor, right? It's not pressure, it's education. So there's value being delivered. You're positioned as an expert, as an authority, as a resource. And it's beautiful because your position is all those things. You're giving value. You're giving aha's while you are just methodically and strategically leading them to see your mechanism as the answer so that when you present your offer, folks jumped at it.” -- Probably a perfect way to end our time like that. You know, it's very easy, especially as your business grows and you've got, you end up with thousands of people on your email list. To start to look at these people, to start to not even see them as people, but to see them as contact records, like to see them as a list, to see them as a database. And, one thing that I'm really grateful for is that I've never lost touch with the fact that there are real people on the other side of all of our communications with real goals and dreams and aspirations and fears and families. And, we need to treat them the right way and respect their time and do the right thing. And, I think that- that's part of playing the, you know, the long game, like do the right thing, you know, and I believe when you do the right thing and the right thing happens...
