Click here https://geni.us/SmartNotSpoiledManaging other people's money is a delicate position — a lot of things can go wrong. Do you ever think about the people who actually MANAGE the taxes you pay to your government? Do you know how to choose the right financial advisor, and how to tell if they're legit or not? As an entrepreneur, I always wanted to dive into the unique “fiduciary industry,” which includes financial advisors, financial planners and the like. (Specific to the USA.) Today I interview Chad Willardson, the Founder and President of Pacific Capital — an independent financial advisory firm based in California. What's especially interesting about Chad is that he not only manages money for high net-worth individuals but also his city's entire portfolio of $400M (yes, 400 million USD). As usual, being the best business podcast in the world, I bring to you the most insightful discussion of the subject available anywhere: Strange truths about managing $400M of taxpayer's money for the government in America Differences between managing the money of an individual versus an entire city What a city CAN and CANNOT invest its money The “nutritionist at the butcher shop”: Why more than 95% of financial advisors and planners make more money if they lie to you How to tell legit fiduciaries from imposters Shocking inside stories from Merill Lynch and other banks Ways how the company acquire customers and market their services Pacific capital's framework for inspecting clients' finances and deciding on a plan The podcast and artwork embedded on this page are from Aman Y. My guest this week is Scott Donnell. In this episode, Scott and I discuss how to teach children about money and finances so they can have a healthy relationship with money, develop initiative, be generous, and raise them into responsible adults with the financial literacy skills they need. Finances can be a taboo topic to some and unfortunately, it isn't required in the school curriculum, so as parents, we are responsible for helping our kids learn these skills so that we can minimize problems for them later on. It's never too late to learn these important life skills, even as adults, with a few easy tips and resources, your child can be fully financially capable by the time they are a teen. Scott Donnell is a serial entrepreneur who has dedicated his life to both physical and mental health. He's the founder of Apex Leadership Company, a fitness fundraising and leadership program for elementary schools nationwide. Apex has net profited $110 million for schools and now has 55 franchises and 3.6 million customers across the nation. Scott is also the founder of the Hapbee, which is a wearable tech specializing in ultra-low frequencies and can record small magnetic fields from chemical solutions. Its ability to play safe low energy, magnetic signals enable it to replicate feelings, such as happy, alert, relaxed, calm, and sleepy. It's one of my favorite wearables, (maybe we will do a different show on that). Currently, Scott is working on a project called GravyStack, the platform to raise financially capable, generous self-starters. He is also a dad. Kids soak up information like sponges. With most schools not teaching financial literacy, our young generations are left to their own devices to filter through all they see and hear, with the majority of it stemming from what they witness at home. Kids see their parents argue over and tiptoe around money, as well as base their expectations and sometimes limitations of their own futures off their parents lives. This all culminates into young adults having little to no knowledge on how to manage their finances, break through self-derived limitations and plan for their future responsibly. That's why our guest today, Chad Willardson, wrote Smart, Not Spoiled, which lays out ways in which money can become more comprehensible and familiar to children, allowing them to make and learn from mistakes when the stakes are low instead of when they are older and the damage less repairable. Chad is the President and Founder of Pacific Capital, a financial management business based in Corona. Before founding Pacific Capital, Chad spent 9 years at Merrill Lynch, where he ranked in the top 2% of Financial Advisors nationally as a Senior Vice President and member of the Chairman's Club. He is a certified member of the National Ethics Association and serves clients as a Certified Financial Fiduciary®, entrusted to manage money for families and businesses. He has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, U.S. News & World Report, and NBC News and is the best-selling author of two personal finance books, “Stress Free Money” and “Smart, Not Spoiled.”He was elected Corona City Treasurer in 2016 and 2020. In 2012, he earned the White House Volunteer Service Award and appreciates the opportunity to make an impact through donating his time and resources to worthwhile causes both in the community and with the church his family attends. While attending Brigham Young University for a bachelor's degree in economics, he worked directly with a portfolio manager responsible for $10 billion of investor funds. He also completed the two-year Financial Planning program at Boston University. He is a Guest Lecturer on Investments at Chapman University and has been designated a 5-Star Wealth Manager in both the Inland Empire and Orange County every year since 2012.
