Today's episode is a little different. As many of you know, I'm a member of Front Row Dads – a group started by Jon Vroman, as a way to help men level up as husband's and father's. As a part of their podcast member takeover series, I was asked to interview a Dad of my choosing. I wanted to pick someone I admire and respect in both business and life, so I decided to interview my good friend, Brad Johnson. While this interview will be released on the Front Row Dads podcast, I couldn't help but think our audience would appreciate listening to it as well. For context, Brad is the co-founder of Triad Partners, a business that partners with the top 1% of independent financial advisors, coaching them on how to achieve unlimited growth, freedom, and joy in business and life. Or as they have coined it, “Doing Business. Doing Life.” Brad and I first met years ago at a Front Row Dads event, and he's been a great influence on me both personally and professionally ever since. In fact, he's the reason this podcast exists. He's the guy who talked me into starting The Lifestyle Investor podcast 5 years ago. In this episode, we both get pretty personal as we dive into our non-negotiable core values, practical tips for entrepreneurs chasing the mythical “work-life balance,” and the top lessons we've learned to successfully grow a business without sacrificing family, health, or happiness. In today's episode, you'll learn:✅ How to build a team that wants to do business and do life together – AND a culture that attracts great talent in the process! ✅ Work-life balance is a myth – find out why work-life integration is the secret to making your business serve your life, not become your life.✅ Brad's #1 piece of advice to become a better spouse – and why you should do THIS as early as possible in your marriage to avoid falling into a doom loop.Show Notes: LifestyleInvestor.com/198Tax Strategy MasterclassIf you're interested in learning more about Tax Strategy and how YOU can apply 28 of the best, most effective strategies right away, check out our BRAND NEW Tax Strategy Masterclass: www.lifestyleinvestor.com/taxStrategy Session For a limited time, my team is hosting free, personalized consultation calls to learn more about your goals and determine which of our courses or masterminds will get you to the next level. For anyone who doesn't know, Justin is a wildly successful entrepreneur, author, and host of The Lifestyle Investor podcast. And Brad is certainly no slouch. He's the co-founder of Triad Partners and host of the Do Business. Do Life podcast. We are all very much in alignment with being successful in business without sacrificing our responsibilities as husbands and fathers. In this episode, Brad digs into his family's core values that were created from the Family Brand. Life has a funny way of throwing us curveballs when we least expect it. It's those moments when everything seems to be going awry – perhaps a morning marred by pink eye, dog pee, and a dad teetering on the edge – that we often find ourselves questioning the universe's sense of humor. But what if, hidden amidst the chaos and messiness, there lie blessings waiting to be discovered? Welcome back to The Good Mood Show, where we specialize in uncovering those hidden gems and helping you navigate life's messiest moments with grace and a smile. In today's episode, we're joined by a true expert in finding joy amidst the chaos, Jon Vroman, founder of Front Row Dads and a beacon of positivity in the realm of relationships. As your host, Matt O'Neill, shares a heartfelt and humorous anecdote from his own journey, you'll quickly realize that even in the midst of pink eye pandemonium, there's room for laughter, growth, and unexpected joys. So grab your coffee, buckle up, and get ready to explore how the smallest acts of kindness and moments of connection can turn even the messiest of days into opportunities for profound transformation. Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation: Matt shares caring for his sick wife and kids while feeling energized Reflecting on the importance of family after a mood shift at work The pursuit of money and success Jon emphasizes honesty, self-awareness and repair in relationships [01:07] A Daughter's Gift As pink eye confined his wife to bedrest and a massive dog pee accident soaked the living room floor, Matt felt the stresses of juggling work and family responsibilities finally overwhelm him. But thoughtful daughter Harper sensed her father's turmoil and left a handwritten note sharing words of encouragement. Upon reading Harper's thoughtful reminders of life's blessings, Matt broke down in tears - not of sadness, but of gratitude for the family that brought him such joy, even in their messiest moments. Harper's small act of kindness lifted Matt's spirit and renewed his appreciation for the loved ones that made each chaotic day worthwhile. [18:17] The Pursuit of Money and Success Most families do not require as much financially as people assume to be happy and healthy. Beyond a reasonable number, the constant drive for more is often just a story we tell ourselves to justify overworking. And so, it pays to ask yourself this: Are you hustling for your family's long term security, or simply feeding addictions to progress, external validation, and leaving a legacy? When it comes to motivations, you've got to separate fact from fiction. Reconsider whether endless professional gains truly lead to fulfillment, or are they pulling you away from more important priorities like your time with loved ones. [21:14] The Art of Authentic Connection Jon shares the philosophy behind cultivating meaningful relationships in the Front Row Dads community. He believes embracing life's full spectrum, without judgment of others' light or dark moments, is key to true understanding. Members support each other's journeys with honesty and vulnerability, finding perspective helps navigate life's complexities as a united brotherhood. Notable quote: [21:14] The relationships that are around us that help us to stay on that track of whatever it is we care about, is so important. Ever wondered what your life would look like if you could strike a perfect balance between work and family? Our guest for today, Jon is living the life of his dreams. He is focused on fatherhood and family, owns a thriving business, and has enough money to live comfortably. But this wasn't always the case. Back in 2005, Jon was trying to get his business up and running. He had run through all savings and was doing all he could to ensure his family's survival. And ironically enough, his struggle had distanced him from his wife and kids. This experience of his inspired him to start Front Row Dads whose main goal is to help fathers show up in the correct way for their families. As men, we are pre-occupied with earning money and ensuring that our family leads a comfortable existence. But, in the process, we take the easier way out and dump all family responsibilities on our wives. On today's show, Jon and Darius share their experiences – both as sons and later on, as fathers. Like Jon, Darius also made the mistake of focusing all his energies on his business when he was just starting out. Eventually, he realized the futility of his approach. And how his “success” in business felt hollow if he was not giving his 100% to his family. Front Row Dads is helping men and dads deal with their deep-seated issues and their vulnerabilities. Listening to Jon will surely force you to pause, and indulge in some self-introspection. What's up DBDL Fam! We've got an extra special episode lined up for you today.I was recently asked to guest host on the Front Row Dads podcast. In case you're unfamiliar, Front Row Dads was started by Jon Vroman – it's a membership group and podcast created for fathers who want to level up their Dad game and put family first. As Jon describes it, it's a group for Family Men With Businesses, Not Businessmen With Families. This group has by far had the biggest impact on how I show up for my family – so if anyone's interested in learning more about that group, definitely go check them out. Not only did I get to take over the Front Row Dads podcast for an episode, but I got to decide who I was going to interview. I chose someone who I greatly admire when it comes to both business and family – the one and only, Michael Hyatt, who is a NYT bestselling author and the founder of Full Focus. 3 of the biggest insights from Michael Hyatt … Why you don't have to sacrifice family in order to succeed in business – you can have both! How Michael maps out his schedule, including planning date nights with his 5 daughters. The story of when Michael's wife told him that despite his incredible success, she felt like a single mom – a moment that completely shifted how he shows up as a husband and father. As men, we have a natural desire to provide for our families and achieve success in our careers. Frankly, this is how most men avoid dealing with their problems. And the problem with that is it hurts the people we say we are working hard for. I remember Meredith saying to me, “You say you're running the race for us, however every time you get a chance to celebrate with your family, you run right by us.” That hurt and hit deep. She was right. I was saying one thing and doing another. I was acting as a business man that happened to have a family. My life changed when I met Jon Vroman who introduced me to the concept of being a family man with a business and the mindset shift that came with it. The pursuit of professional goals can sometimes come at the expense of our family life. Jon and I discuss the challenges of balancing family and business, and share insights on how to prioritize both aspects of our lives family first. We explore strategies for setting boundaries, managing our time, and communicating effectively with our loved ones. Our guest, Jon Vroman — shares his personal experiences and the lessons he has learned as he navigated through the competing demands of work and family. He offers practical advice on his website https://frontrowdads.com/ on how to maintain a healthy balance making him an irreplaceable family man with a business. It's recognizing that actually, you might not even know what you don't know right now. But if you have faith in community, if you have faith that by putting yourselves around other people that have honorable intentions, like we say be a family man with a business, not a businessman with a family, that is a filter for what type of person we're looking to surround ourselves with." - Jon Vroman The Strongest Foundation for Growth "I reframed what rock bottom is in my world, and rock bottom is also a foundation. Rock bottom is the strongest foundation for growth." - Jon Vroman Playing With The Feminine And Masculine Energies "The realization for me lately has been range. It has been expanding my range of possibilities, truly tapping into this. Openness, the feminine energy, this receiving energy… just letting the world give to you, fully receiving, curiosity… I also thrive in the masculine, what I would call this driving energy where I want to be in my car going somewhere, focused, with a direction, achieving… And how fast can I move back and forth between those energies? Not only can he speak from his own experiences, but he's surrounded himself with like minded men who are constantly pushing to uplevel their Dad game. What I love about Jon is that he doesn't claim to have all the answers… In fact, quite the opposite. He started the group because he wanted to uncover them. And he's just as committed to learning as the rest of the men in his group. He knows the power of collective wisdom and has built a brotherhood who are committed to figuring it out together and learning from each other's experiences. What can we learn about life from those that are fighting for it? Today's guest, Jon Vroman, is the founder of The Front Row Foundation where they help children and adults facing life-threatening illnesses to have a “Front Row Experience” at the live event of their dreams. We discuss a TON, but above all the biggest lesson is this: Your entire life is made up of countless moments, and each one carries an opportunity to experience joy, fulfill your sense of purpose, and make a difference. So if you want to learn how to be more present and make the most out of each moment of your life, this episode is for YOU. Enjoy!
As men, we are preoccupied with earning money and ensuring that our family leads a comfortable existence.
