When you chomp into the Pastrami Reuben at Hershel’s, you’ll understand why locals refer to this place as “the best Jewish deli outside New York.” From its old-fashioned signage and counter seating to its made-from-scratch menu items—including impossibly juicy, house-cured pastrami—every detail oozes authenticity. And it’s no wonder, considering that Hershel himself, a Polish native, was a chef at New York City’s legendary Katz’s Deli for more than 40 years. In 2000, with the help of close friend and business partner Andrew Wash, Hershel’s nephew, Stephen Safern, opened the deli in 2000 to honor his uncle’s legacy and Eastern European heritage. At Hershel’s East Side Deli, Safern and his team serve up a full assortment of Jewish deli classics, including matzo ball and chicken noodle soup, latkes, kugel, hot dogs, potato knishes, bagels with lox, New York–style cheesecake, and, of course, hot deli sandwiches stuffed with homemade corned beef, pastrami, or brisket. Their food is made from scratch daily, the meat is carved to order, and the staff are happy to honor special requests—“just how Uncle Hirsh would have wanted it done.”To view the menu, click here: http://places.singleplatform.com/hershels-east-side-deli-market/menu?ref=google

Sharing that experience in public appearances, Julie has touched the lives of so many in diverse settings. She is devoting her life to reaching as many people as possible, with an emphasis on gender identity related topics. Her mission is to make the world safer and the future more inclusive for LGBTQ+ youth.Julie Tarney serves on the board of the It Gets Better Project, guest writes for HuffPost, and is a contributing advice columnist for My Kid Is Gay. Almost all are either learning about or trying to get comfortable with issues related to gender identity. They have questions about how those issues effect the people they care about, work with, or interact with in their lives and communities. I want those people to know they’re not alone. And I’ve seen how my story can help them.”Julie has spoken to a variety of audiences in academic, workplace and other settings. She has also been a guest at LGBTQ Pride events to share her experience and expertise.A longtime resident of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Julie now lives in Brooklyn, New York. She can often be found cheering in the audience at her creative director and sometimes-drag-artist son Harry’s performances.

Growing up the daughter of a music teacher, Kat Perkins has been singing, dancing, and performing for just about as long as she can remember. Coming from a town that only recently went from “unincorporated” to 281, with the nearest theater or rock show hundreds of miles away, it took a lot of determination for that little girl to pursue her dreams. Almost as soon as she stepped off the stage at her high school graduation, at just 18 years old, she packed her bags, said good bye to her family, and traveled 600 miles east to Minneapolis, MN – where her undeniable drive and passion for performance shined through in her unforgettable stage presence. Kat began to carve out a place for herself on both the music and theater stages of the Twin Cities. After signing a record deal, and beginning to work and share stages with some of the music industries biggest acts (Guns and Roses, Bon Jovi, etc), Kat’s career began to reach heights she’d only dreamed of as her years of hard work began to pay off. It was at that point that Kat began to feel tension in her throat, tension that would end the career she’d dreamed of and worked towards her entire life. In Spring of 2011, Kat was diagnosed with a vocal fold cyst, requiring surgery that would prevent her from continuing on in the only career she’d ever known. Unwilling to let this set back change her attitude, Kat began to pursue her second passion, which was working with children, and she began nannying. After nearly two years of nannying, Kat voice began to heal and she began to sing again. She volunteered to do a tour for members of the United States Military in the Middle East, on a trip that would change her life in more ways than she’d ever imagined. During a layover in the middle of the night in the Amsterdam airport, Kat began to sing Adele’s “Someone Like You.” The video made its way online, going viral, and gaining the attention of the producers of NBC’s The Voice, who requested she come on the hit TV show. Kat’s time on The Voice was unforgettable, as she made it all the way to the finals. Maroon 5 singer, and coach, Adam Levine, proclaimed Kat to be “… hands down one of the best singers we’ve ever had…” She’s since continued traveling the country performing. Her latest singles have climbed to the top of the iTunes charts and she’d been the top selling rock artist on iTunes five times. She’s also begun speaking, giving over 300 presentations in the past 18months alone, sharing her message of living a Fearless life, the pursuit of dreams, and making a positive impact on the world. Here's Ralph in his own words:I was a banker. Stand on Nicollet Mall on any weekday and you’ll see a thousand people who look like I did. You know the type – pinstripe suit, wingtip shoes, cell phone attached to our ear – captains of industry, young and old, climbing the corporate ladder. And I was pretty good at it. I came to Minnesota in 1996 to work for a big company and, by the time I left, I was running a multi million-dollar business for them. I had a pretty good and pretty typical life. I had a wife and two children, a house in the suburbs, two cars, friends, golf clubs, dog, etc. I was good at my job, and the company was happy to pay me pretty well, so off I went to work every day.And then, on April 21, 2011, my whole world turned upside down. That’s the day that my wife, Stephanie, suffered a massive stroke. Five weeks later she died. She was 49 years old. I will never know why it happened. All I know is that, in an instant, everything that I thought was important and everything that I thought my life was about, was shattered. And that’s when the blinders came off. When I went back to work I soon saw just how much I had convinced myself that I was supposed to have a big corporate job. Then I realized how much I didn’t want to do it anymore. I started to think about what I would do if I weren’t in the corporate world. That’s when it hit me that the best parts of my day were when I dropped my dog Frannie off at Downtown Dogs in the morning and picked her up again in the evening. It wasn’t just seeing all of the other dogs (although I am “dog stupid” as Stephanie used to say). It was, as much, the tremendous positive energy and genuine warmth that greeted me every time that I opened the door. That’s a rare thing and it was exactly what I needed when everything else in my life SUCKED!And so, I began to think that maybe I would open my own dog daycare business. But, the more I thought about it, the more that I realized that I didn’t want just any dog daycare business, I wanted Downtown Dogs. No other business has the amazing combination of people, energy, love, passion, knowledge, and skills that make Downtown Dogs the awesome place that it is. And so, I approached the former owner with the idea of selling me Downtown Dogs. Two years, and many conversations later, we signed on the dotted lines and Downtown Dogs became my new home. There’s a lot more to my story that I’ll be happy to bore you with later. For now, just know how excited I am, every day, to see all of our fantastic clients – and their owners – and to be working with the best group of people, and dogs, that I have ever known. Please say hi to Ralph when you see him. And do let him know that a 30-foot mural of Frannie on the side of the building might be taking the whole pug thing a bit far. (Just to clarify: Frannie's name is spelled with an 'ie' not a 'y.')

Alan Freed loves dance music. When his efforts to get dance music on the radio in his hometown of Minneapolis failed, he plugged in his own small transmitter to jumpstart the airwaves during the summer of 1996. Just 103 days later, the FCC silenced Beat Radio 97.7 by arresting the equipment and jailing it! (Really!) So he hit the trail and became a badass in Cali, giving the people what they want, SHOUT DRIVE!!
