Is Na Hong-jin's HOPE the Creature Feature We've Been Waiting For? (Spoiler-Free Review)Watch Skip Plus has seen Na Hong-jin's HOPE....and it is an INSANE, BREATHLESSLY-PACED CREATURE FEATURE! Joined by returning guest Shawn (launching his own horror/grindhouse podcast later this month - The Rot & Reels podcast with veteran podcaster Mike Cadaver), the three introduce you to maverick Korean director Na Hong-Jin and his incredible films before giving you their spoiler-free thoughts on this sci-fi/action/comedy, THREE years in the making and nearly TEN years since his last film (The Wailing). HOPE debuted in competition at Cannes and drops audiences into a remote harbor town under siege by something never-before-seen in a nearly three hour genre-blend film that references film noir, Kaiju epics, Independence Day, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and even Mad Max. BUT the internet is awash with divisive CGI talk and an ending that FLAMED many viewers. Is this the defining sci-fi, rambunctiously wild thriller of the year? ONSLAUGHT Ending Explained (SPOILER'D) — Adam Wingard's KPG Universe Grows*SPOILERS AHEAD (even in the description) Adam Wingard and his long-standing writing partner Simon Barrett's new film Onslaught is a return to their indie roots back in the day when they made VHS 2, You're Next, and The Guest. After making Death Note and two Godzilla movies, Wingard wanted final cut and expression of his singular, tonal chaos aesthetic. Cupcake (Jose) and WillDaBeast (Mike) deep dive the movie, its gorgeous cast - Adria Arjona, Dan Stevens, Rebecca Hall, and Drew Starky - and if this is WINGARD-worthy or just for the die-hards. The Boyz dig into Dan Stevens' "Peter Sellers"-esque performance, ALL the Carpenter nods (this is "The Guest" meets "Assault on Precinct 13" with a dash of "The Terminator"). The discussion of plot details and secrets reveal why this plays as a spiritual sequel to The Guest and You're Next, while actually being a direct entry in Wingard and Barrett's shared KPG universe (yes, the same KPG from The Guest, You're Next, VHS/2, and Blair Witch).GET KINKY AND KRAZY WITH WATCH SKIP PLUS!- - - - - - - - - -WE ARE WATCH SKIP PLUS!***Original Theme music: Linus Fitness-Center (click the link in our bio for more information on LFC)FOLLOW/LIKE/SUBSCRIBE/REVIEW/LOVEEmail us: WatchSkipPlus@gmail.comBe kind. Adam Wingard & Simon Barrett reunite for a Terminator-meets-Carpenter slasher. Spoiler-free verdict inside.Cupcake (Jose) and Mike (WillDaBeast) dive spoiler-free into Onslaught, the long-awaited reunion of director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett whose previous films - The Guest, You're Next, Netflix's Death Note, and Blair Witch - are both beloved and polarizing. Shot on a $20 million budget back in New Mexico (same stomping grounds as The Guest), Onslaught follows a trio of unstoppable, Terminator-style killers unleashed on a small town, with Adria Arjona, Dan Stevens, Reginald VelJohnson, and Rebecca Hall caught in the crossfire.A return to Wingard's indie roots after directing Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong, pic homages the heck out of the seminal films by John Carpenter (Halloween, The Fog, and especially Assault on Precinct 13) as well a healthy dose of James Cameron (circa Terminator and Terminator: Judgment Day; even Hicks....Michael Biehn...makes an appearance). But will Cupcake (who is dying to marry Adam Wingard) and diehard Wingard fans be satisfied by this "spiritual" sequel that lives in the universe of The Guest? Or is this "seen it/done that", mid-Wingard (if that is even such a thing)?Come back for our SPOILER'D episode where we dig into the ending, the kills, and the universal connection that links this film with nearly all other "Barrett-Wingard" movies. - - - - - - - - - -WE ARE WATCH SKIP PLUS!***Original Theme music: Linus Fitness-Center (click the link in our bio for more information on LFC)FOLLOW/LIKE/SUBSCRIBE/REVIEW/LOVEEmail us: WatchSkipPlus@gmail.comBe kind. This is the SPOILER'D breakdown of David Green's Coyote vs. Acme, the movie thatwas rescued from a history-erasing, tax write-off. Spoilers ahead....even in the description. Did you know there was a such a thing as "Cartoon Injury Law" or "Anvil Law"? How about "Chase by Predator" legitimate employment? No? Well, join Cupcake and WillDaBeast as they discuss spoilers and plot points for David Green's Coyote vs. Acme. They go everywhere: the movie's underdog vs corporate overloads commentary, all the cameos, and the performances by Will Forte, Lana Condor, and John Cena in a surprisingly good comedic turn. They also talk through why the Looney Tunes "problematic characters" reevaluation does or doesn't hold up in 2026, the movie's monopoly/anti-corporate throughline, and whether this is one to bring the whole family to.BOOM goes the Acme dynamite! WB tried to bury this movie for a tax write-off. Fans and the director raised their voices and now Coyote vs. Acme has been unleashed! Was the rescue worth it? This week the Boyz tackle the almost never-released Coyote vs. Acme in an early release spoiler-free episode. Filmed in 2022, pic tested through the roof but then David Zaslav's newly-merged Warner Bros. Discovery shelved it as a tax write-off in 2023, the same fate that had already erased Batgirl (terms? Never to be shown in any way shape or form after the write off). This time, fans revolted loud enough that WB shopped the finished film instead of destroying it, and Ketchup Entertainment picked it up for theatrical release. Cupcake and WillDaBeast give you the verdict: was the fight and the fan rescue worth it? Wile E. Coyote hires personal injury lawyer Will Forte to sue the Acme Corporation for a lifetime of exploding products, and what follows is part courtroom satire, part love letter to Looney Tunes, stacked with cameos for longtime fans. With a cast including Lana Condor, John Cena, Martha Kelly, Louis Guzmán, and PJ Byrne, is this live-action/animation hybrid , in the spirit of Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers, the perfect end of summer screwball comedy with biting legal satire and toothy commentary about corporate overlords? Or is it a nostalgia grab. Does it work for kids who've never seen a Looney Tunes short? Check out the Boyz as they tell you WHY you need to get your butt in a seat this week to help this movie have legs and strike back at those who would tried to erase this movie from history.- - - - - - - - - -WE ARE WATCH SKIP PLUS!***Original Theme music: Linus Fitness-Center https://tr.ee/j7RkZlFOLLOW/LIKE/SUBSCRIBE/REVIEW/LOVEEmail us: WatchSkipPlus@gmail.comBe kind. Donald Macleod explores the world of Ethel Smyth through five love affairs British composer Dame Ethel Smyth was one of the early 20th century's most original cultural voices. A prodigious musical talent who was best known for her operas, she was a force of nature, an unapologetic eccentric who didn't suffer fools gladly, and a rule-breaking, trail-blazing feminist. Alongside music, she was an accomplished sportswoman, and her driven and playful nature - as well as her endurance - would not only shape her career but her personal life too. This week, Donald Macleod explores Smyth's story through what she termed her “passions” – the key all-consuming relationships that changed the course of her life, and how they were a necessary force for her creativity.Music Featured: Fête Galante (Overture/Sarabande) Aus der Jugendzeit!
