For as long as humans have existed, people have been getting buff as hell, but for different reasons throughout the centuries... People don't look like they used to. We've been cave-dwellers, tribespeople, fought plagues and mammoths. In the two million or so years humans have been around, it's only recently that people have had the time and understanding to actually think about our bodies, back when we were hairy grunters who died before the age of 22 we didn't really have the luxury of working on our pecs when we were just trying to stay alive, you know? It's time for the long, sweaty (sometimes confusing) history of working out!
The roaring 20's!!!!! What a time to be alive... The economy was booming and people were starting to stray away from the norm. Cars, radio, cinema, television, sound movies…it was all brand new and young people were embracing change. In the 1920s, cuddling was a popular social activity with "petting parties" also called "snugglepupping" taking place all around the US. Cuddling may seem like innocent fun in 2021 but back then it was a great way to experiment before committing to a relationship or to marriage. As these parties gained popularity, there was obvious pushback from Conservatives because they saw physical contact between young, repressed men and women as another sign of the moral decline that was seizing the nation. In this episode, we go over the rise of petting parties, how they played a key role in sexual freedom, the haters and why they no longer exist. Don't forget to hit that subscribe button. CHEERS! Then, Fredericton MP Jenica Atwin bolted from the Green party to join The Liberals... Her thoughts on Israel generate some heated discussion. Lowell recounts his experience at an MRI appointment and how we are being treated like cattle... And finally, he has a few words to say about the fear some are expressing about police in schools. What would be your reaction if your best friend asked for your husband to be her sperm donor? Is it a friendly thing to do? Is it creepy? Here is what our writer had to say: "Hi J &J, First, I want to say how sorry I am to have heard about Jesse's mom. She sounds like such a great person and thank you for being so vulnerable and open on your last episode. I'm sure it helped someone out there who is dealing with loss. So, this is kind of odd, even for you guys. I am 30 years old and I have a fairly good friend (we've known each other for 5 years). We became a lot closer throughout my pregnancy, she was super supportive and it was great having her help my husband and me out when we needed it. Obviously, she was around more often and she always commented on how perfect my baby was. I figured it is just what friends tell each other and I didn't really think much of it. One day we were sitting at the park and once again, she was talking about how cute and well-behaved my baby was when all of a sudden, she looked at me and said " Would it be okay if I asked your husband to be my sperm donor?" You guys, I almost spat out my coffee!!!! She didn't even use lube, just slid right in there with this extremely awkward question. I think she could see that I was uncomfortable so she went on about how awesome it would be if our kids were siblings, they'd be so cute and that since she is single, she would rather have a donor that she knows. I told her I would think about it, but I am creeped out. Am I an awful friend for thinking this is out of bounds? How do I let her down gently? Should I tell my husband? Can we still be friends after this? Can't wait to hear what you guys have to say. Thanks!!" See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Cocaine, booger sugar, blow...whatever you call it, cocaine has been around for thousands of years, but it wasn't until the late 1800's that it hit the market as a "cure for everything". Sigmund Freud was a huge fan and even the Pope carried around a flask of coca fortified wine on his hip. Toothache? Dandruff? Hay Fever? Cocaine was the magic potion that solved all of the world's problems. Until, it wasn't... #JesseAndJenna run through the history of cocaine and its medicinal uses, the creation of Coca-Cola and the drug's downfall in this episode of The History of: Cocaine in Victorian Medicine! STRAIGHT GUYS, THIS ONE'S FOR YOU!!! Actually, this interview is for anyone who wants to improve their love life.*
If you are a fan of the show, you've probably heard us talk about Jesse's mom a lot over the years including our interview with her about her steamy affair with Bryan Adams! By now, you've also probably read the sad news that Jesse's beloved mom, Donna Reynolds, passed away recently on her 61st birthday. This episode is dedicated to her and her story of perseverance and positivity as she battled a lifetime with Rheumatoid Arthritis and chronic pain, while still managing to be the best single mom ever to four fabulous children. Jesse takes us through that fateful night when he got the call and had to drive across the city in a state of shock, and also shares some special, possibly supernatural signs he's been getting since her passing- including that she died on her birthday, who does that?! Her doctor said it is very mysterious and happens more often than people realize... We hope that Jesse's experience helps those who have had to deal with loved ones in long term care during the pandemic know that they are not alone, and same for those who have lost a parent at such a young age. THIS ONE'S FOR YOU DONNA, CHEERS! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Imagine using your married name for 20 years and then your ex-husband's NEW fiancee DEMANDS you change it... What would you do? "Dear Jesse & Jenna: My ex-husband's new fiancée recently contacted me, insisting that I give up my last name. She and I just happen to share a first name, which is unsurprising. It's a name that is as common as Hannah or Elizabeth. I think she wants the name to herself, which is understandable, but I still don't want to change it. It has been my name for nearly 20 years, which is almost half my life and my entire adult life. My reasons are not personal but professional: I married my husband in my early 20s, while in grad school (my diploma is in my married name) and so are all my major publications. We divorced amicably some time ago, and I never bothered to change my name; it just seemed easier to keep my married name. Since then, my career has really taken off, and I'm fairly well known in my field. My ex's fiancée thinks I'm "sick and stuck in the past" and that I should be "embarrassed to not let things go." That isn't the case at all. It's true that my ex and I talk rarely; we are polite when we do see each other. Though my ex-husband is indifferent about the name change, he won't get his wife to back off. Is it terrible and unethical to keep it?" See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

With so much business and socializing being conducted via Zoom
It's another listener letter but this time it's LIVE!!!! Danielle was brave enough to Zoom into the podcast to get our advice after being ghosted on a dating app. Here's what she wrote: "Hi Jesse and Jenna, Ok so I am having a small creeper moment and I need to know if this is too far over the line or if it's just ok enough to let go and let God. So here's the story. I matched with a guy on bumble and (I thought) we really hit it off. We spoke for a few hours and then I went to bed. Now the direction of the conversation left me with the impression that we would be speaking again. But when I woke up in the morning his profile had been deleted. Now over the course of our conversation I discovered that we had a mutual friend. So I asked said friend about him and got a last name, which of course led to me finding him on Instagram. Ok so do I assume he ghosted me and let Casper go? Or do I send a message and see if his profile got deleted? Is that far too creepy? Am I being too naive? What should I do?" I f you have any advice for Danielle, please let her know in the comments below and if you are stuck in a pickle and want some uncensored advice, feel free to email us (we can keep your identity a secret) at jesseandjennasmessypodcast@gmail.com.
