This week, Big Time Talker host Burke Allen talks with author Rodney Cloud Hill live at the American Library Association's annual conference in San Diego, where they discuss his provocative book, Blackwash: The Untold Stories of Reverse Racism. Through a fictional parallel universe and 200 historical and contemporary events, Hill flips traditional racial roles to explore the concept of reverse racism, diversity initiatives, and equal opportunity hiring. In this powerful episode of Espresso Talk Today, we dive deep into the often-overlooked world of covert racism—the subtle, everyday behaviors and attitudes that many people don't even realize are racist. From denying racism's existence to ignoring white privilege and making harmful stereotypes, we unpack how these actions perpetuate systemic racism in ways that are insidious but no less damaging. I also introduce the Socialized Racism Scale, a tool designed to help you assess your own unconscious biases and understand where you stand in the fight against racism. Along the way, we explore the 3Cs—Courage, Character, and Compassion—that are essential for confronting and dismantling these hidden prejudices. Whether you're just beginning to examine your own biases or are a seasoned ally, this episode offers vital insights and actionable steps to help you be a part of the solution. This isn't just a conversation for one group—it's for everyone who's committed to creating an anti-racist world. Tune in, listen, and let's uncover and confront these hidden biases together.

Sam Kerr. We know her. We love her. But our love was called into question this week, when it was revealed that in January last year, after our star Matilda had been out celebrating, a drunken taxi ride in Twickenham ended with her throwing up and allegedly arguing with the cabbie over the fare. Police were then called where Kerr reportedly got into an altercation with a white police officer, allegedly calling him a 'stupid white bastard'. She's since been charged with racially aggravated harassment. But what exactly constitutes racism? Can a person of colour be racist towards a white person? In this episode of The Quicky we take a look at exactly this with Craig Foster, who admits to reevaluating his initial opinions of Sam following the news. Want to try our new exercise app? Invercargill mayor Nobby Clark used the n word at a public event. This is no way a cancel attempt on the man, instead a trigger for a wider conversation around his actions, freedom of speech, social norms and reverse racism. There has recently been a pull and push tension between freedom of speech and preventing hate speech. There is space for both but how do we navigate that? Amal explores and unpacks this episode. The saga of race and slavery in America is definitely NOT the highlight of our shared history, but there are those that believe it's the central theme that governs our country's past. This is completely absurd! Slavery was a feature of many countries around the globe, even countries with black inhabitants enslaved their fellow brothers who were also black. The essential, unique feature of America was liberty. As much as we want to fight against racism at some point we need to pay attention about our way to fight against it . I believe everybody is racist at some level but there is a line to not reach a line that separate racism by general healthy preference and racism by hate and the need of feeling superior based on the Color of your skin…… anti racism can sometimes lead to Reverse racism if the intention is based . Reverse racism sometimes referred to as reverse discrimination, is the concept that affirmative action and similar color-conscious programs for redressing racial inequality are a form of anti-white racism. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/phonchrist/message

There are a lot of myths floating around out there about affirmative action in higher education and the workplace. Join us for an enlightening discussion about what affirmative action is, how it works - and whether or not it's good for society.
The concept of being offended by everything all the time: fauxfended. It's becoming an epidemic, y'all. Also, Geico has to pay up for a backseat STD; Trader Joe's might be the next unionized shop; “Ozark” actress Julia Garner might be the next Madonna; author James Patterson complains about reverse racism; are Burger King and other brands guilty of rainbow washing?; Carol Burnett returns to series television; Ariana DeBose dazzles at the Tony Awards; and, no much more pop culture silliness.
There is a massive debate in our culture over the issue of racism. The debate isn't over whether blacks or other minorities should be mistreated. That was settled during the civil rights movement in the 60's and now we have about 99.99- agreement in our country that minorities should not be mistreated.-The debate is over what to do about past mistreatment. One side says the best way is to follow Martin Luther King's dream-don't judge anyone by skin color. Become a colorblind society that judges everyone according to their character, not skin color.--The other side says, -No. That's not enough. We have to right the wrongs of the past. White people need to pay reparations to blacks. We need to have skin color quotas. Give favored treatment to minorities. Hire a minority before a white male even if the white male is more qualified. --Which approach is better- What does the Bible say-

4.18.2022 #RolandMartinUnfiltered: LA's Cancer Alley, Manson's Takeover Remains, Nashville's Reverse Racism, The White Dress Project The Environmental Protection Agency has launched several civil rights investigations over air pollution in Louisiana's "Cancer Alley." That's between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, where a quarter of the nation's petrochemical production occurs. We'll talk to the president of the Concerned Citizens of St. John Parish, that says there permits granted in the highly polluted industrial corridor are discriminatory. The fight continues for Mason, Tennessee, as a judge denies to reinstate control of the majority-black town's finances to its leadership. For now, the state comptroller will continue to hold the purse strings. Also, in Tennessee, the state Senate gives final approval to a Black history bill requiring state public schools to integrate Black history and culture into the social studies curriculum for grades five through eight. All it needs is the governor's signature. A white Nashville councilwoman is kinda being called a racist for describing white people as white. Florida's State Board of Education rejects over 40-percent of textbook submissions saying they promote CRT. Former Superbowl Champion Marshawn Lynch is taking up hockey - as a minority owner. What does it look like when we start dismantling systems of oppression that benefit a small number of people at the expense of everyone else? Black and Indigenous folks are regularly accused of reverse racism for things that are merely offenses, not systematic harm. But to your nervous system, the opposite of systemic racism is probably going to feel bad. In fact, it's probably going to feel like reverse racism. A lot of it. The opposite of white supremacy is going to feel like oppression when you choose to not account for what was taken. The fight over diversity in Southlake's Carroll Independent School District is back in the headlines and has a new focus — books. Teachers are worried about a new Texas law that limits instruction on contentious topics, and one of them secretly records a meeting in which a Carroll administrator offers an unexpected piece of advice: If teachers share books about the Holocaust with students, the administrator says, then they should also offer books on “opposing perspectives.” Teachers are incredulous, and the recording sets off an international backlash. In this special bonus episode, we speak with a former librarian at Carroll Senior High School, who retired early instead of continuing to navigate the battle over books, as well as a 12-year-old student whose mother pulled him out of the district after he faced severe bullying over his sexuality. And we have new details on what could be a game-changing development in Southlake: a federal civil rights investigation into students' complaints of discrimination. If you or someone in your life is in distress, you can always call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
