Another Q&A in the books + some life updates on my end. We ate some business PB+Js to fuel up for this great episode! The main training topic was on fueling like your athletic life depends on it. Erase all of your preconceived notions and ask this question: When you're already tired and you're still a couple hours away from home, what do you do? If you're anything like many of the best endurance athletes in the world, you learn to stuff down as many calories as you reasonably can stomach. We break it down in a fueling tutorial, through the lens of a 100-mile bike ride we did this weekend, mixing in lessons from performance science. What people think is an endurance limitation is often a fueling limitation. Disclaimer: if you're riding with Megan, you may still suffer, but at least you'll survive. Probably. We also talked about athlete contracts, and why there is so little transparency for professional runners. We're talking numbers, strategy, and some of the nitty gritty tactics that may be interesting for anyone who cares about business negotiations. Courtney and Jim are worth approximately twelve bajillion dollars. And the buffet was full with awesome topics! Other topics: at-home massage, parking lots loops, enhancing fatigue resistance, using bike training for run fitness, lessons from Megan's biggest training week ever, good doctors, a new study on supershoes for female runners, periodization of training for a world-class cyclist, the World Indoor Track Champs, Elle St. Pierre's postpartum swag, Supersapiens shutting down, AI agents, huge prize money at Tough Mudder, the Mark Cavendish documentary, and hot takes. Stick around for an incredible Listener Corner submission about faith. Just forgive us for what we say the water turns into. Comedian and former peanut butter salesman, Greg Warren, joins Adam as they share their strong opinions on peanut butter. Adam compares the best PB&Js to the ones he had to eat as a child before they get into the problems with ‘Gonna Let Her in my Life' by John Travoilta and landau roofs. Next, actor Kevin Dillon talks to Adam about his new movie ‘Buddy Games: Spring Awakening'. Kevin gets into his time on ‘Entourage' and how Johnny Drama was a sensitive character before telling the story of how his brother Matt Dillon got his big break while cutting class in high school. Finally, Chris reports the news including: a grandfather losing weight from a 100-day McDonald's diet, Air New Zealand weighing passengers before they board the airplane, a teenager climbing the 6th Street bridge for a social media stunt falling to his death, and Bill Cosby facing new sexual assault lawsuits. While the rate of inflation has recently gone down, prices remain higher than where they were this time last year. Will this impact any summer vacation plans? If so, how? Will more folks have staycations? Or will people make more PB&Js to take to the beach while on vacation? After all, the wallet might not be as thick in 2023. In this week's Trading Perspectives, Sam, Courtney and John discuss how higher prices have impacted their personal travel plans for the summer. You might be surprised by the results.
While George and I remember tasting the paste as we muddled our way through arts and crafts in kindergarten, most people's school culinary memories are of sitting on benches in crowded cafeterias, trading PB&Js for chocolate pudding, partaking in real or imagined food fights, and, of course, doing battle with the proverbial lunch lady. As the vast majority of American students are headed back to in-person school this fall, we want to open our fourth season talking beyond the classroom as we explore the importance of school lunch programs. Today, despite film depictions of trays of brown sludge and tiny milks, we're going to discuss how the school lunch is integral not only to fueling our students' bodies but also their minds.

In today's episode, Katie has 30 minutes to become an expert on... Peanut Butter! It's a simple food, but it has an interesting and fun-filled history. Although peanut butter might make you think of George Washington Carver, he actually did not invent peanut butter! But he did come up with lots of other uses for peanuts. Peanut butter has its roots in Aztec and Incan civilizations, but became popular in America in the early 1900s. And now we can't get enough of the stuff! Highlights Include: - The number of peanuts in one jar of peanut butter - How peanut butter and jelly first met - How many PB&Js the average American kid eats Follow on instagram @30minuteexpertpodcast and twitter @30minexpertpod Send us your expertise at 30minuteexpertpodcast@gmail.com And please rate and review! Sandwiches have been one of my fave meals since I can remember making my own PB+Js (on toasted sourdough!) as a kid. They are quick, simple and so easy to change up for the season or tastes. Hot or Cold. Messy or Neat. Wrapped or flat. I’ve even made dessert sandwiches - no really: layer a thin slice of moist cake with Nutella and sliced bananas and you’ve got yourself a delicious, light dessert. Plus, they are super fun in mini size on toothpicks at parties! Listen in for some yummy ideas! Okay everybody - it’s time to class up this joint! Let’s talk CINEMA. Let’s discuss the least likely Mike Nichols’ film of all time, 1994’s WOLF with Jack Nicolson & Michelle “White Gold” Pfeiffer. And just to make sure we take it seriously, we’re joined by filmmaker & premiere YouTube video essayist, Patrick H. Willems!! Secure your monocles, cause they’re about to pop out of your eye!! Along the way, we ask if James Spader satisfies as a lover, we consider what was Richard Jenkins like as a baby, evaluate what it must be like for two of the biggest movie stars in the world to eat PB&Js on camera, and wonder if becoming a wolf is a solid anti-depressant. Plus, we surprise Patrick Willems with an extended discussion of Edward James Olmos’ wang! Also, we have a very urbane edition of Choose Your Own Death-venture and we pitch Sydney Pollack’s Invisible Man! Never fear - new episodes of Kill By Kill are made available every other Friday! Jerry Herships joins the podcast to talk about his newest book, 'Rogue Saints: Spirituality for Good-Hearted Heathens.' In this episode, we talk about what exactly Jerry means by "shitty church," if you are looking for a church how you can avoid one, and if you are a pastor how you can avoid pastoring one. ---------------More on the book: The world is full of good-hearted heathens, those who love people and those who want to do good in the world. They're not against God--they just have little use for church. Church is boring and hypocritical. Plus, who wants to sit through a sermon every week? But while organized religion doesn't appeal to them, these heathens long for a connection to something bigger than themselves: meaning, community, mission.---------------Jerry Herships is the founding pastor of After Hours Denver, a faith community of rebels and misfits that meets in dives and pubs to talk God and the Holy over drinks while making PB&Js to pass out to the hungry and homeless of downtown Denver. A former bartender turned comedian, Herships was drawn into ministry after realizing that the connections and conversations he had with his customers were deeper and more real than anything he'd ever experienced in church.
