Solid Rock Bible Church Sunday December 15, 2024 Pastor Bill Gay: "Is Jesus Just a Guest or is He a Permanent Resident?" SCRIPTURE: John 14:23 Revelation 3:20 Revelation 3:15-16 Ephesians 3:16-17 John 3:16
Jesus replied, ‘All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.' (John 14:23 NLT) Being a Christian isn't merely trying to follow the example of Jesus Christ. Being a Christian is having Jesus Christ Himself taking residence in our hearts and living inside us. It's what distinguishes the Christian faith from any other belief system. Jesus said, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them” (John 14:23 NLT). That is an amazing statement when you think about it. God the Father and God the Son are saying they want to make their home with us. And in Revelation 3, Jesus said, “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends” (verse 20 NLT). It's interesting that Jesus made this statement to the church of Laodicea. Jesus essentially was speaking to people who were probably in the church and going through the motions of Christianity, but for all practical purposes, they didn't have a relationship with Him. A few verses earlier, Jesus said to them, “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!” (verses 15–16 NLT). In other words, “Lukewarmness turns my stomach.” Thus, Jesus said, “I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” It's hard for us to appreciate the significance of that statement in our fast-food culture. We are used to quick meals. In fact, we have developed into an art form the ability to eat while we're driving. But in Jesus' day, there was no such thing as takeout. A meal took much longer back then. Dinner was the main event of the evening, where you sat down with friends and family. You took your time to relax, share the events of the day, and bare your hearts to one another. So, when Jesus said, “I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends,” He was saying, “I want to have fellowship with you, and I want you to relax and be honest. I want to spend a lot of time with you.” Is Christ at home in your heart? The apostle Paul wrote, “I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong” (Ephesians 3:16–17 NLT). Is Jesus Christ an honored guest in your home, or is He a permanent resident? He wants to be the latter. Jesus doesn't just want to be home for the holidays. He wants to live in your heart all year. — Listen to the Greg Laurie Podcast Become a Harvest PartnerSupport the show: https://harvest.org/supportSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In this week's episode of Your Weekly Calling, Brad opens up about his personal journey with doubt and its impact on his life. He discusses how doubt, while common, shouldn't be allowed to take root in our minds permanently. Drawing lessons from biblical figures like Thomas and John the Baptist, Brad illustrates that even the most faithful can experience moments of uncertainty. He emphasizes the importance of seeking reassurance in faith and turning to Jesus when in doubt. Through prayer and trust in God, Brad encourages listeners to confront their doubts head-on, highlighting how these moments can lead to personal growth and a deeper, stronger faith. The episode underscores the value of community and support from others in overcoming doubt, with the story of John the Baptist serving as a powerful reminder that even in uncertainty, Jesus provides answers and comfort.Follow Brad Here:https://www.instagram.com/bradlowe1979/This show is brought to you by The Hopecast Networkhttps://www.instagram.com/hopecastnetwork/

New research shows that some people living with HIV are choosing cheaper and suboptimal antiretroviral treatment out of fear that their applications for permanent residency will be rejected. - Исследование университета Монаш показало, что некоторые люди, живущие с ВИЧ, выбирают более дешевое и неоптимальное лечение из-за страха, что их заявления на постоянное место жительства будут отклонены.
New research shows that some people living with HIV are choosing cheaper and suboptimal antiretroviral treatment out of fear that their applications for permanent residency will be rejected. Applicants must show that their medical spending will not exceed more than $51,000 over 10 years — a requirement, known as the Significant Cost Threshold. Experts say these rules for migrants are unfair and can compromise Australia's goal to end the HIV epidemic by 2030.
If you or someone you know is a non-citizen of the United States working in OPT F-1 status, as a J-1 au-pair, or is an asylum seeker who may be subject to a hostile or toxic work environment, please know you have rights. Labor laws and Trafficking laws not only protect non citizens, but in some cases reporting intolerable work conditions to the proper authorities may be a path to U.S. Permanent Resident Status. The United States takes a strong stand against Labor trafficking; and foreign nationals working in the United States may seek protection under the T visa laws. Our immigration lawyers have filed T visas along with Green card applications for many individuals subject to abuse by his or her employer.
Applying to adjust one's status in the United States to a Permanent Resident is an exciting experience. The question often arises, “Should I still keep my non-immigrant visa current since I have my employment authorization (EAD), and I'll soon be a Permanent Resident”? The answer is yes!

Join host Phil Rickaby as he talks with the playwright of Sweeter, Alicia Richardson and Assistant Director Amaka Umeh who enlighten us on the creative process behind the play. Set in 1887 Florida, this magical and surreal tale of a talking mango tree and a 7-year-old black girl tackles themes of black womanhood and growing up black. The origins of Sweeter trace back to an ambitious exercise where Alicia penned seven plays in seven days, with many forming the foundation for her other work, Articulation. We also talk about Amaka's journey to joining the production as assistant director, and the thrill and challenge of bringing a theatre production to life. From a short piece to a full-scale production, the evolution of a play is indeed a labor of love. The value of versatility and embracing multiple passions in the theatre world are also discussed. Our conversation takes an intriguing turn as we explore the art of creating distinct character voices in a new play, and the significance of representation and diversity in theatre. Hear how theatre provides a platform for young children of colour to explore their identities and see themselves represented on stage. Finally, Alicia and Amaka share their journeys in the theatre world. Amaka shares her passion for movement, and Alicia, her interest in voice training and dialect coaching. They also discuss the importance of storytelling and representation in the theatre world, especially for Black individuals. Hear about the Alicia and Amaka's early encounters with theatre, the power of storytelling in shaping our identities, and the role of education in promoting diversity and inclusivity in theatre. Starting in 2012, the Gabriola Island Local Trust started a legal effort to have an elderly couple remove a seawall that protects their waterfront property because it was less than 30 meters from the ocean. At a trial of the matter, the Gabriola Island Local Trust lost the case because the judge concluded there was a common-law right to protect property from erosion. The Island Trust didn't like that outcome and so appealed to the BC Court of Appel, which eventually overturned the first judge's order concluding that the Province of BC had authority, that it delegated to the Island Trust, to prohibit the seawall regardless of the impact on erosion. Following two additional years of litigation, the seawall was still in place and the Island Trust asked the BC Court of Appeal to start imposing fines for civil contempt of the order. During the intervening time, the wife who co-owned the property with her husband was diagnosed with dementia and passed away. Her 87 year old husband has numerous physical ailments and the couple's adult daughter had moved back to BC from Ontario in an attempt to help with the seawall issue. The daughter obtained an environmental and geotechnical assessment report which indicated that removing the seawall could cause environmental harm to the shoreline and would require the removal of several mature trees which had roots that had grown into the seawall. Unfortunately, the BC Court of Appeal judge dealing with the case concluded that the court no longer had any authority to change the order that required the seawall to be removed. The daughter then approached 10 different contractors to have the seawall removed. All but one denied to do the work and the one that did attend concluded his equipment wasn't adequate for the job. The daughter then tried to remove the seawall herself using a sledge hammer and jackhammer but was unsuccessful. She concluded the concrete structure was "about as strong as the Great Pyramid of Giza."As a result of all of this, the BC Court of Appeal judge imposed a smaller fine than was requested for contempt: $2,500. He also suggested that if the seawall wasn't removed by the end of October there could be another $7,500 fine imposed. How the case of the immovable seawall plays out may depend on the continued health of the remaining 87 years old owner. The order for removal was made against only his late wife and him. Also, on the show, an ongoing case of an Iranian Refugee who escaped that country and came to BC in 1995 is discussed. The man was successful and, in 2019 was able to purchase a home in West Vancouver for $6.6 million. The man had applied to become a Permanent Resident of Canada on three occasions, with the last application being filed in January of 2017. Because it took the government until February of 2022 to grant him Permanent Resident Status he was changed $1.32 million pursuant to the BC property speculation tax that is intended to discourage people from other countries speculating in BC real estate. The legislation that imposes the tax requires it to be applied to anyone who isn't a Canadian citizen or Prominent Resident. While the man involved is making a challenging constitutional argument against the tax, the real issue is that it cannot have been intended to apply to refugees who have lived in BC for 24 years. The case demonstrated the need to amend the legislation. Follow this link for a transcript of the show and links to the cases discussed.

Are you interested in becoming a permanent resident of the U.S.? Today I will discuss how to obtain a Permanent Resident Card, commonly called a green card. This document allows you to live and work in the U.S. indefinitely. And with a mini-story, you will practice your speaking skills. Hi there! I'm Georgiana, your English teacher. Thanks for joining me for a new episode. My mission is to help you speak English fluently with no grammar and no textbooks. And, if you want to help me, it's very simple, just share the podcast with your friends. That would mean a lot. Thanks! Before we begin, I suggest you get the transcript from my website. SpeakEnglishPodcast.com Okay! Let's start! A "green card" is a plastic card with the individual's biographic information, photo, fingerprint, and expiration date issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The card once called the "green card" has kept its nickname, even though it is now yellowish and has a barcode on the back. The Permanent Resident Card is valid for ten years and must be renewed. However, the cardholder's status as a "permanent resident" remains valid unless the status is abandoned or revoked by the U.S. government. Becoming a permanent resident gives you the right to live in the U.S. permanently, work in any legal job you are qualified for, be protected by all U.S., state, and local laws, and vote in local elections that don't require U.S. citizenship. There are several other ways of obtaining it, but the most common way to get the Permanent Resident Card is through family sponsorship. If you have a U.S. citizen relative, they can submit a petition to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on your behalf. The petition must be accepted before you can apply for the card. Another common way to get a green card is through a job offer. An American employer can file a petition to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in your favor if they can prove that no other qualified American workers can fulfill the role and that you are the best fit for the job. As you can see, obtaining a green card can be a long and complex process. That's why it's important to consult an immigration lawyer to understand the steps and see if you are eligible. With the proper guidance, you can make your dream of living and working in the U.S. a reality. Get the full text on my website: speakenglishpodcast.com/podcast/
Through The Fake Green Cards Project, Philadelphia-based artists Xuan Liu and Youkun Zhou invite us to imagine a world where getting “papers” is not the nerve-wracking process it has become for many immigrants in the U.S. Producer Danya AbdelHameid reports on how their whimsical hand-drawn cards explore the meaning of the green card, spark conversations about the challenges of navigating the immigration system, and raise questions about what it means to belong in America. On October 13, 2022, Dr. Philip Levy gave a fascinating lecture on the principal archaeological sites associated with George Washington and what they say individually and collectively about his life and career. No figure in American history has generated more public interest or sustained more scholarly research around his various homes and habitations than has George Washington. The Permanent Resident is the first book to bring the principal archaeological sites of Washington's life together under one cover, revealing what they say individually and collectively about Washington's life and career and how Americans have continued to invest these places with meaning. Two hundred years after his death, at the sites of his many abodes, Washington remains an inescapable presence. The Permanent Resident guides readers through the places where Washington lived and in which Americans have memorialized him, speaking to issues that have defined and challenged America from his time to our own. Philip Levy is Professor of History at the University of South Florida and the author of "George Washington Written on the Land: Nature, Memory, Myth, and Landscape" and "The Permanent Resident: Excavations and Explorations of George Washington's Life." Paul Rusesabagina, a Belgian citizen and US permanent resident, is a recipient of the US Presidential Medal of Freedom. He has been credited with saving 1,200 lives during the Rwandan genocide in 1994. Paul's acts of extraordinary courage inspired the Hollywood movie, Hotel Rwanda. Paul left Rwanda in 1996 fearing for his safety, and later became increasingly critical of the Rwandan government's human rights violations. He then founded an opposition political party called the Party of Democracy in Rwanda and in 2018 co-founded the Rwanda Movement for Democratic Change, a coalition of opposition groups. In August 2020, Paul Rusesabagina was kidnapped in Dubai and taken to Rwanda where he is detained to this day. The European Parliament and members of the US Congress from both parties have called for Paul's immediate release. On this episode, we speak to Paul's daughters, Carine Kanimba and Anaise Kanimba to find out how we can help bring him home. We discuss his kidnapping, the conditions of his detention, his unfair trial, Pegasus spyware found on Carine's phone, assassination attempts, launching a public campaign to free their father, the guilt felt by Western countries for not intervening during the Rwandan genocide, how Carine and Anaise find the strength to overcome so much trauma as well as what the US, Belgium, European Parliament, Commonwealth, journalists and the public can do to free Paul Rusesabagina.Follow Pod Hostage Diplomacy on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to keep up to date with our work.Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/PodHostageDiplo)

Emigrant's Life - Stories of people who left their country to chase a better life
Rafael is originally from Brazil and decided to go to New Zealand for a year to learn English for better opportunities in his country. He quit his job and, with some friends, went to New Zealand. Rafael left Brazil without a visa and just a bit of money. He soon managed to find a job that would sponsor him so he could make some money and stay longer in the country. Instead of stay for a year, as he planned, Rafael stayed for two, and when he moved back to Brazil, he quickly realized that he missed the New Zealand lifestyle. Rafael moved back to New Zealand, this time on a working holiday visa, which allowed him to work and travel around the country. Through a friend, Rafael found a job that could sponsor him to get a work visa. So he moved to Christchurch, where a few years earlier have been damaged by a big earthquake. The city had to be rebuilt, and people like Rafael were desperately needed. This opportunity and his humility to adapt to jobs made it “easy” for him to get a work permit and later become a Permanent Resident. Years later, he became a New Zealand citizen.
It is not a secret that Permanent Residents can lose their status and be removed from Canada for committing a crime. In fact, a lot of people have heard some stories about PRs being removed from Canada for violating the law. However, not everyone knows specifics and details on how this removal process is done and if there are any ways Permanent Residents can challenge their removal from Canada. Well, today's episode is really focused on Permanent Residents and Criminality. In this episode of the Special Series on Immigration Hearings and Appeals I discuss everything you might want to know about Criminality as a ground for removal of Permanent Resident from Canada with amazing Canadian Immigration Lawyer Rekha McNutt. Rekha practices primarily in immigration law. She has extensive experience with temporary resident visas, express entry, federal skilled workers, Canadian experience class, Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program, family class sponsorships, refugee claims, pre-removal risk assessments, and in-Canada humanitarian and compassionate permanent residence applications. Rekha has focused much of her practice on Federal Court Judicial Review applications of various types of negative immigration-related decisions. Rekha had appeared before the Alberta Provincial Court and the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta. She has also appeared extensively before the Federal Court of Canada and Immigration Tribunals such as the Immigration Division, Refugee Protection Division, and the Immigration Appeal Division. Rekha is the past-Chair (2015-2016 & 2016-2017) of the Southern Alberta Branch of the Canadian Bar Association, Immigration Section. In this episode Rekha and I had a very interesting discussion on challenging removal of PRs from Canada based on criminality. Rekha shared insights and demystified what happens to a PR charged with a criminal offense and how this fact is treated both within criminal as well as immigration system. Additionally, in this episode we discussed the following: consequences for a PR when charged with a criminal offense; types of criminal charges and difference between serious and regular criminality; options for appealing removal order; practical aspects of representing a client in appealing removal orders. Losing your status in Canada is the worst nightmare for Permanent Resident. Unfortunately, many Canadian PRs end up losing their Permanent Residence status. One of the common ways to lose your PR status is by not meeting the residency requirement. In this episode Rekha McNutt joins me once again for our Special Series of Immigration Hearings and Appeals to discuss specifics of residency requirements and filing appeals of the Removal Orders at the Immigration Appeal Division (IAD). Rekha practices primarily in immigration law. She has extensive experience with temporary resident visas, express entry, federal skilled workers, Canadian experience class, Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program, family class sponsorships, refugee claims, pre-removal risk assessments, and in-Canada humanitarian and compassionate permanent residence applications. Rekha has focused much of her practice on Federal Court Judicial Review applications of various types of negative immigration-related decisions. In this episode Rekha and I had a very engaging discussion of all sorts of issues related to challenging Removal Orders and answered some of the most common questions about residency requirement for Canadian Permanent Residents: How can you lose your PR status in Canada? How much time do you have to stay in Canada to maintain your PR Status? Can a Canadian PR be turned away at the border for not meeting the residency requirement? How much time you have for appealing your Removal Order? Does the process of filing an appeal to IAD differ for in-Canada and outside of Canada appellants? Are there any exceptions to the residency requirement? What does a hearing at Immigration Appeals Division look like? How can you justify your absence in Canada?
