Lori & I “dog sat” for a friend over the Christmas Holiday. Mixed breed Dachshund & Pittie. A great little girl named Mya. I know that I cannot be a foster for dogs, as there would be no way I could give them up. In this very special bonus episode, I am joined by my significant other, Brandon Reid, and we share the story of Romeo. Romeo, the absolute sweetest pittie boy, was the first dog we ever adopted together. While his time with us was short due to an undiagnosed medical condition, he taught us so much about love and resiliency. I am forever grateful for this boy and hope Romeo's story will inspire others to take a chance on the underdog and to love your animals intensely, because you never know which day will be their last. Resources:ASPCA National Pet Loss Hotline (24 hour support): 1-877-474-3310 Contact usPodcast Instagram and TikTok: @animalsoulmatespod Podcast email: animalsoulmatespod@outlook.com CreditsHost & Executive Producer: Dr. Abbie ViscardiProduction Team: Citizens of Sound, https://www.citizensofsound.com/

About Aasheesh Pittie's book of essays, The Living Air. If you're looking for new ways to engage with birds and birdwatching, Aasheesh Pittie's book of essays, The Living Air is a great place to start. This book will not only make you want to get out and observe your city and surroundings in a whole new light, but it will also offer a fresh perspective into what birdwatching is and the many ways you can benefit from it. Informative yet a joy to read, The Living Air is an excellent introduction to the transformative pleasures of birdwatching. The Indian Pitta Books is India's first dedicated book imprint for bird lovers, conservationists and policy makers.     Bio Aasheesh Pittie is the editor of the ornithological journal Indian BIRDS. He has been the engine behind books such as Birds in Books: Three Hundred Years of South Asian Ornithology (2010), and The Written Bird: Birds in Books 2 (2022). Aasheesh has also compiled a searchable bibliographic database of over 35,000 works on South Asian ornithology (southasiaornith.in).  Questions: For those who haven't read it, what are the themes in your book Your book begins with the Jerdon's Courser and the Great Indian Bustard.  You are lucky to have seen them.  Can you describe this?  Your book encourages absorption in bird watching.  Were you always this way? What was your evolution as a bird watcher? I loved your chapter, “My kind of birding.”  That paragraph about the art of becoming invisible….”  Please describe your kind of birding, your thoughts on cultivation of patience and its rewards. What are the rewards? And how can you cultivate this mindset.   Dabchicks. How can they absorb you for hours? How can you teach this.  ‘Disappearing Dabchicks'. It describes his visit to a local pond, where Aasheesh became entranced by these gloriously ball-like waterbirds and before he knew it, the ‘sun was balanced on the horizon … the disporting Dabchicks had engrossed me for three hours'. In your chapter on the bouquet of Benishaan, you write that “the character of a place, its ambience, takes on the sheen of the temporal moods and perceptions of the observer.” Please elaborate.  The context is that many of the places you describe are in South India, but since our audience is global, wanted some takeaways for them as well.  So if you live in a particular place, be in Northern Europe or South America, how can you approach birding in the Aasheesh Pittie way. Tell us about your methodical and elaborate list process- now available on ebird.  But please describe how you kept notes and the value of those notes? What was your writing process for this book? And how do you know so many specific but unusual words? “but remaining with it through the quiddity of its habitat…” What is your birding routine? What issues absorb you these days? What are your favourite species of birds?

In this episode, Toni talks about a couple of random customer experiences she has had last year. The interactions Toni talks about are with two different customers and their relationship with their vets, raw food, and supplements. Toni mentions her recommendations with each customer, why she is making these recommendations as well as customer feedback. Later in the episode, we hear about Emily's experience with her dog with severe allergies, the approach she took to, and how her dog is today.  The first customer interaction is around raw food, some serious diarrhea, and antibiotics. Toni recommends a new food, and a pro/prebiotic protocol to add to their dog's diet along with some milk thistle.  Toni talks to a customer about raw food, why not all vets are on board and her beliefs on why it is the best option for a longer and healthier life. They share quirky stories about the bond between dog and owner and how dogs have grown to be more than pets, they are family! Finally Toni and Emily touch on Emily's senior rescue Pittie, Sweet Pea. Sweet Pea had severe allergies, yeast, and bacterial infections. Emily and Toni talk about her improvement and how she has gotten to where she is today, what she eats and the supplements she takes.    Direct any comments or questions to: Info@toniunleashed.com  Visit our websites: www.healthypetproducts.net / www.toniunleashed.com  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/healthypetproducts/ https://www.instagram.com/toni.unleashed/  Facebook: Thttps://www.facebook.com/HealthyPetProducts / https://www.facebook.com/ToniUnleashed  Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAMxTEiHqRkpWNakn4OA__A  TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@healthypetproducts / https://www.tiktok.com/@toni.unleashed  Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/HealthyPetProducts/ / https://www.pinterest.com/ToniUnleashed/

Ever since I was a teenager, I have loved a good makeover.  I am completely enthralled by the dramatic transformations on RuPaul's Drag Race and Property Brothers, but I am also a sucker for a great dog rescue story where an allegedly aggressive Pittie becomes another family's Good Boi.  But, the stories that inspire me most are those of women who had their back against the wall and came out swinging.   No matter what is in her rearview mirror, when a resilient and determined woman reaches her point of no return, she shifts into a “no fucking around” mindset, and from that point forward, everything changes. Today's guest, Amanda Barrientez, also known as Dr. Amanda, The Money Healer has the kind of story I love the most.  Because I was a social worker and psychotherapist who worked with kids from disadvantaged backgrounds in a former life, Amanda's early life experiences sounded all too familiar.  Fast forward to marriage, kids, grad school, divorce, and Amanda found herself on the professor track but paid so poorly that she and the kids qualified for food stamps.  This was her NFA turning point. Amanda recently interviewed me for her YouTube NFA Money Stories series and I learned then that nothing is off-limits for her, so we were able to go deep into some really important areas not often discussed on a podcast.  I am grateful that she was so open and generous with her life experience and the work she has done to transform it. This is not your typical rags to riches story where it's all sunshine and rainbows, touting entrepreneurship as easy and fun.  One of the many things we agreed on is that getting what you want is hard.  And it's also worth it. Here are a few of the highlights:Growing up as a little brown girl in an all-white upper-class neighborhoodLearning about all the ‘isms' in grad school after being raised by evangelicalsDitching the victim mindset for extreme ownership Her 3 step system for blasting your money blocks Amanda walked away from being a professor to become a money mindset and manifestation coach. This is a special episode, because the guest holds many interesting titles for our purposes: Toni Okamoto is the founder of Plant Based on a Budget, a successful author, the creator and former co-host of this podcast, and...she happens also to be my wife. And Toni has a new book coming out! This is her third cookbook, entitled The Friendly Vegan Cookbook, which is coauthored with Toni's business partner and friend Michelle Cehn. Now, before you think this is just some act of nepotism to promote my wife's new book (which is certainly worth promoting, nepotism or not!), as you'll soon hear, Toni has a fascinating tale to tell about her success as an entrepreneur. In this episode we chat about what led her to leave the comfortable life of a paycheck and benefits to take a bet on starting her own company based on her passion: helping people save money by eating plant-based.  With no outside investment and just by bootstrapping with revenue she's brought in, Toni has built her company into a powerhouse, providing jobs for six people (plus herself) and reaching vast numbers of people with a potent message about how to live more sustainably each day. It's normally taboo to talk about how much money someone makes, but Toni gets into the specific numbers here to offer details about her business' various revenue streams. So if you've ever wondered how social media influencers actually make a living and what their lives are like, including the barrage of both encouragement and criticism they receive online daily, this episode will answer that plus a whole lot more.  Discussed in this episode Toni’s three books Plant-Based on a Budget’s meal plans Smart Passive Income Podcast and the Startup Podcast Alfonso Revilla Photography Reynaldo’s Soy Chorizo Eddie the Pittie on Instagram About Toni Okamoto Toni Okamoto is the founder of Plant-Based on a Budget, the popular website and meal plan that shows you how to save dough by eating veggies. She’s also the author of the Plant-Based on a Budget cookbook, The Super Easy Vegan Slow Cooker Cookbook, and the Friendly Vegan Cookbook. She’s also the co-host of The Plant-Powered People Podcast.  Okamoto’s work has been profiled by NBC News, Parade Magazine, and she’s a regular presence on local and national morning shows across the country, where she teaches viewers how to break their meat habit without breaking their budget. She was also featured in the popular documentary What the Health. When she’s not cooking up a plant-based storm, she’s spending time with her husband Paul Shapiro and dog Eddie in Sacramento, Calif.

Maybe you own some things from Goodwill or at least have donated unwanted items to them. But when you think of Goodwill, what comes to your mind?  Maybe you think it’s just a chain of thrift stores selling used goods. Turns out, not true. Goodwill is actually a nonprofit organization focused on helping the homeless and others experiencing hard times. And it just turns out that the charity happens to fund its good work for the less fortunate via a chain of used goods stores at which you’ve probably shopped.  In other words, the public-facing stores you see all the time are just the revenue-generating engine for this charity to do its good deeds. It’s a fascinating business model, and on this episode we’ve got Goodwill exec Lori Dearwester to tell us how it all works. If you’ve ever wondered what happens when you donate a bag of goods to Goodwill, what happens to the things that don’t sell, and what happens if you try to reclaim a donated item, this episode will answer all your questions.  Discuss in this episode Goodwill’s online store. Join us this week as we talk to Hannah about Lilly Bug, a rescued Pittie from Texas.  Not too much is known of her early days, but we learn quickly from our interview that this pup walked into the right family's life the day she was found.  Hannah and her husband Chris took on the responsibility of being Lilly's caregivers, as a pair of newlyweds, with no immediate plans of growing their family. This decision however, turned into something amazing that is best seen on their Instagram page, or heard here in our conversation. I chat with Alicia Mathis about Pumpkin's incredible story, starting out literally in the alleys of D.C., to her life now, on a small island up north. Safe to say she's seen more in her first year on Earth than anyone would ever hope for. Luckily she found Alicia early on, and now that she is healthy, things are looking up for this little Pittie.

Professional dog trainer and Founder of I Pitty the Bull Foundation, John Flores stops by the podcast to teach us all about his favorite breed of pup; the fabulous and often misunderstood Pitbull! Seven years ago, John's life was all about partying and avoiding commitment, but when a biking accident sent him into a deep depression, it was a pitbull puppy named Penny Lane who ended up not only pulling him out of his depression, but giving his life new purpose. Bye bye partying, hello new career! In this fun episode, John gets real about who the best owners are for this strong and loving couch potato, why there's so much false information out on pitbulls and what we can all do to help the thousands of pitbulls now stuck in our overcrowded shelters. This is an episode for every dog lover who wants to help empty out our shelters and find out the truth about America's pup, the Pittie! Over the course of a 25 year career with the Phoenix Police Department, Jamie Lutes has developed a love for Pit Bulls. Most of career was spent as a Narcotics Detective.   As a result of her work Jamie consistently encountered Pit Bulls. She learned through this personal experience that the Pit Bull is not only the most mis-understood breed of dog but also the most abused, neglected and over bred. Regardless of the pain and suffering these dogs were forced to endure at the hands of humans, they were almost always forgiving, devoted and hungry for any human attention.  Jamie has rescued and found homes for many Pits.  In 1998 she rescued a Pit Bull from a Clandestine Methamphetamine Lab and adopted her. After living with this amazing dog she had no desire to live with any other breed again and hasn't.  Today, Jamie is a serious advocate for Pit Bulls and STRONGLY denounces breed specific legislatation and dog fighting in any form. She currently lives with 2 Pits.
